Recently, Blogger Chan was given an opportunity to be up-close and personal with horses. It's not with those horses that you can pet in the zoo, but racehorses in particular.

So let Blogger Chan try to share with you the life of a racehorse in Singapore.

1. They have better food than Blogger Chan.

Unlike Blogger Chan, racehorses do not have to eat grass. They are fed everyday with a special feed containing all the nutritions they need that consists of kilograms of wheat, oats, nuts, etc...

2. They goes to the gym

3. They have their own private pool that is 3 metres deep.

The worst of the food poisoning seems to be over for Blogger Chan, but however Blogger Chan's energy level seems to be dropping rather than recovering. Nonetheless, GOD today gave us a small break and granted us about 1 hour of sunshine before it all turned windy and cloudy again.

In Blogger Chan's view, Day 7 is his favorite day in Long Way Up. The wide and sparse space to walk on, the picturesque calm lakes, the nice weather - its all part of the calm before the storm, cause it's SUMMIT DAY tomorrow.

[Grad Trip] Pecky Adventure - Bukit Tabur

Blogger Chan have not heard much from Pecky ever since she left Blogger Chan at the Kathmandu Airport with a packet of Milo, leaving him to continue his journey in Long Way Up alone.

That is, until a few weeks ago.

As soon as Blogger Chan saw the words "Pecky Adventure" in the subject field, blood began rushing towards his ~~small~~ head as his usually ~~cold and evil~~ calm and cool heart began thumping in excitement. As expected from a NTU Bizad graduate, Pecky had even made use of words like "Special Edition" and "Double Grand Slam" to further push Blogger Chan's frail heart into maximum overdrive.

After quickly devouring the contents of the email, Blogger Chan made a quick check on his calendar and was very pleasant to find that his schedule for the week for Pecky Adventure was perfect and empty. School would just end nicely before that weekend. Blogger Chan was set for his grad trip!

While by judging the altitude you may think its just another Bukit Timah, it seems to be quite a dangerous trek as the web-links provided by Pecky made Blogger Chan wonder if he would die a virgin.

In order for Pecky to assure Blogger Chan that she would take good care of him, Pecky ordered safety ropes to be brought along and forced Blogger Chan to scrimp around trying to borrow a pair of headlamps from his friends.

There wasn't much to blog about the climb, except that this trek is very popular and crowded due to its close proximity to the city and hence the human jams at the danger points are pretty bad (of course, the Pecky Adventure crew would just cut queues)

The best thing about this trek that Blogger Chan find was that there is no camping or cooking for this trip. No chance for Blogger Chan to enjoy sleeping with rats and the croaking crickets, nor a chance for Blogger Chan to show off his culinary skills this time round. In other words, Blogger Chan would be looking forward to a good night rest in an air-con environment, as well as proper cooked meals at restaurants.

But you knowing Pecky, if things are too good to be true, then its really too good to be true.

Its a nice bed ~~to sleep~~ to put our stuff on.

So instead of Blogger Chan snoring loudly and dreaming of his group member Felicia Chin at night, Pecky Adventure Crew is going up Bukit Tadur again at 0230am to catch the sunrise.

In line with the Singapore's kiasu-ism, Pecky Adventure Crew reached the sunrise point 2 hours in advance so that they will not miss the sunrise. With 2 hours to spare, the Pecky Adventure Crew took out their carefully da-paoed Subway sandwiches they had bought last night to enjoy....but not Blogger Chan.

Blogger Chan took out something that he has been waiting for a long time, something to mark another milestone in Blogger Chan's life.

After Action Review (AAR) of Graduate ~~Cigar~~ Trip: Pecky Adventure: Bukit Tabur

1. No more cigars for Blogger Chan. Instead of getting a high, Blogger Chan got such a splitting headache/hangover while coming down that he lost his appetite for lunch even though the others were woofing down bowls and bowls of noodle from Old Town White Coffee.

2. Empty schedule doesn't mean no schedule. Its just that Blogger Chan will somehow finds out his schedules/deadline only 1 week beforehand, like his Options & Futures paper on 18 Nov, his Financial Modelling project deadline on 19 Nov. Lets all pray for Blogger Chan in some way to be able to pass his Options & Futures module...and graduate successfully.

3. Even though sleeping hours are limited, sleeping on a real bed (plus really cold air-con) after a trek is pretty memorable.

Blogger Chan has a confession to make.

For the past few months, Blogger Chan has been going through a transition period in his life. Transitions in life are never smooth-going. Sometimes it is turbulent, sometimes it is emotional, but this is what made life worthwhile. Blogger Chan had such a hard time coping with it that he stopped chatting with girls, started binge eating, disfigured his own flawless face and eventually even dropped out of sight from the blogging community.

However, today marks the end of his transformation and hence what better way than to start blogging again. Blogger Chan understands his sudden announcement to stop blogging in August had led a number of his die-hard fan girls to end their lifes in misery. For this, Blogger Chan express my heartfelt condolences to Joane Peh, Fiona Xi and Joanette Aw and may them be able to continue stalking Blogger Chan in the other life.

Finally after appearing in every ~~dean~~ bin list available in his education path for the past 15 or so years, today is officially the last day of school for Blogger Chan (if you discount the 1 test, 1 exam, 1 online quiz and the 2 projects that are pending/due in the next few days/weeks)

Yes, Blogger Chan will become Working Adult ~~Slave~~ Chan in the matter of 11 more days and Blogger Chan has only come to appreciate the beauty of school only when the end is near. Looking back, besides trying desperately to find his future wife for the past few months, ~~Blogger~~ mere Mortal Chan has achieved/witnessed the following:

2. Had a fight with Denise and ended their 1 year 8 month relationship mutually.

Travelling expenses have shot through the roof after the divestment of Denise.

3. Completed a sea kayaking expedition. The previous attempt 4 years ago was not successful.

Once again Blogger Chan brought out his fishing gear to the expedition but very very disappointingly, no decent catch or mermaids were landed this time. The previous attempt 4 years ago produced a nice catch that was enough to impress the girls and he cooked the fish on the spot for a meal which probably angered the weather gods as the kayak back to Singapore the next day was met with such a fiery thunderstorm that even sank their safety boat. The PSA, MPA and the Coast Guard was mobilized to rescue Blogger Chan which also resulted in the writing off of 20 over kayaks and the loss of many personal equipment. Subsequently, Blogger Chan was not invited for any sea expeditions until late this year.

4. Kana 4D

For the first time in his entire life, Blogger Chan strike 4D on his beloved friend's car plate number on the day Blogger Chan very very nearly met his end while sitting in his car. Too bad it was an IBET and the winning was only a consolation prize of a total prize money of $3.

5. Did a Good Deed

Blogger Chan was on the exit of an expressway at night when he notice a banged up lorry in the midst of the pouring rain. Instinctively, Blogger Chan slowed down to have a good look at the licence plate number to buy 4D. Blogger Chan's balls dropped when he saw the driver and an unconscious lady still in the lorry and no vehicle had bothered to stop to help.

Seeing a lady in distress, Blogger Chan quickly stopped and ran towards the smoking lorry in time to see the lady regaining consciousness and begin screaming in pain. However, the lady was trapped by the crushed lorry and Blogger Chan could not do nothing much except to call for an ambulance and helped to direct the traffic away.

6. Won a Medal

Secret Weapon Chan had somehow against all odds helped his friends to a medal finish in the life-shortening Poly50 race.

Despite the pathetic 11 days remaining (amid all the tests and shit) before Blogger Chan losses his carefree lifestyle, Blogger Chan is determined to enjoy the remaining days as much as he can. As such, Blogger Chan will be going for his grad trip this weekend as to commemorate this special occasion. Stay tune for the preview on his lifetime grad trip!

Time baby-crawled by as Blogger Chan spent almost every second of the night freezing in his sleeping bag while clutching his tummy in pain. By the time the early morning rays came gently piercing through the windows, Blogger Chan had already ran out of toilet paper. At 4400m, every attempt to the toilet is exciting enough to be an adventure itself.

Follows the steps below to enjoy the wonderful moment -

1. First, climb out of your sleeping bag that was painstakingly warmed up by your body heat.

2. If time permits, search for your glasses. If not, just grab your torchlight and sprint your way to the toilet 30 meters away. Please remember to forget to close your door to welcome the cold night air into your room.

3. Find the toilet and close the door. Remember, there are no electricity in the teahouse. Shine your torchlight around to find the missing plank on the floorboard. The missing plank will be the place where you lay your eggs.

4. Try not to breathe in too deeply - you might fall asleep and never wake up again. Below the missing plank is a pit filled with probably at least 3 years worth of human shit. However due to the lack of oxygen at 4400m coupled with the strainnous activity of climbing out of bed and sprinting to the toilet, You are hopelessly panting like a dog.

5. You notice that the floorboard is wet/dirty with [use your imagination]. You do not wish to soil your toilet paper by placing them on the floor.

6. Next, expose your rear and dragonballs to the freezing cold.

7. Be ~~stupid~~ environmentally friendly enough to switch off your torchlight while you continue your bombing mission in complete pitch black darkness.

8. Thankfully, the toilet has central heating. Enjoy the warmth of your urine and feces as you purge them out of your body.

9. After laying your eggs, grope along the floorboard for your torchlight. Since your torchlight is a handheld one, you have to be really creative on how you want to use your torchlight to shine at your used toilet paper to ensure that your rear is free from explosives.

10. Once your rear is free from explosives, will your shivering hands to wear back your pants

11. After that, ensure your hand is free from contamination by washing it with the icy cold water and then dance your way back to your room.

12. Climb back into the now frosty chilly sleeping bag and standby for the next bombing mission.

13. Repeat Step 1 to 10 another 2 more times.

The next morning, Sherpa Lim and Trainer Peck woke up refreshed and re-energized to find an exhausted Blogger Chan knocking on their door to borrow toilet paper.

In preparation for more bombing missions in the day, Blogger Chan changed into his "quick access" thermals. This gives Blogger Chan the shortest time to unload his eggs as the thermals are zip-less and very elastic for easy pulling down and mobility to squat down.

Started snowing while Blogger Chan had his most miserable dinner for Long Way Up - Two pathetic boiled potatoes. It was the first time Blogger Chan had seen snow first hand. It was an amazing sight, but not the amazing cold that came with the snow.

By the time Day 6 came to an end, Blogger Chan had successfully completed 8 bombing missions.

After a very potent garlic ~~porridge~~ soup and then watching the IMAX Everest documentary in their teahouse, Blogger Chan retired for the night and woke up on Day 5 in excellent spirits to continue their expedition to Gokyo Ri in the rain.

However, not everyone in the camp was feeling as high as Blogger Chan. When Blogger Chan stopped for a water break along the trek, Blogger Chan noticed a solemn Trainer Peck looking very miserable and gloomy.

"Hey Peck, why are you looking so sad? Boyfriend problem? Can I do anything to cheer you up?" asked the caring Blogger Chan

"Yes, you can. I want you to pluck the beautiful flowers over there for me." ordered the crying Peck.

It was then when Blogger Chan realised he and Trainer Peck are not fated to be together.

Tired and hungry, they stumbled into a teahouse for lunch and bumped into a 75 year old Japanese man who is trekking alone in Nepal for the 11th time.

After talking with the 75 year old Japanese guy and discovering that he was not Yamashita, Blogger Chan was so ~~ashamed~~ psyched up that all traces of cold and fatigue were gone and after 8 hours of trekking, Blogger Chan has finally revisited the 4000m club after a 9 year break.

Day 3 & 4

Surprisingly, Blogger Chan met one of his adversaries along the trek. He had tormented Biker Chan when he was back in Singapore, now he has come to Nepal to torment Trekker Chan. Its the mother freezing rain.

After 7 hours of trekking, Blogger Chan finally arrived at Namche Bazaar town. Namche is main trading centre for the Everest region and is the gateway to the High Himalayas. The good news was their guide got them one of the more decent accommodation that came with free hot showers but the bad news was that Blogger Chan only found out about the hot shower from Sherpa Lim and Trainer Peck seconds after a pain-staking, body trembling cold shower in his room. The only consolation was the not-so-bad news was that the hot showers were solar-powered and the weather was balmy today and so Lim & Peck only got a not-so-icy-cold shower instead. Still, it was relief to have "hot" showers available for free. Most accommodations charge US$4 for a hot shower that last just enough for you to get your feet wet.

Breathing now is no longer second nature, brushing your teeth requires both stamina and endurance. Imagine brushing your teeth after a 2.4km run with a ~~toothbrush~~ ice-cream. Sleep is not a luxury but a chore.

Day 4 was spent acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar and they woke up before sunrise to walk up to the Sagarmatha National Park to take in the views of Everest and other mountains. However, views were limited due to the less than perfect weather. Blogger Chan spent the rest of the day exploring the village and recuperating. It is time to leave civilization tomorrow.

Like a 13 year old boy who is going to his first day of secondary school, Blogger Chan woke up at 4am to catch a pimple-raising, heart stopping flight to Lukla - the start point of their trek.

Blogger Chan first prop-plane ride - on a plane that's probably as old as Blogger Chan (or even older).

The 15-seater plane was so small (and old, and shaky, and cold) that Blogger Chan can tell when the pilot is reaching for the emergency escape door.

Notice that everyone in the picture is fully amoured in sweater and pants and yet Blogger Chan is dressed for a run at Bedok Reservoir. Shivering on the first day of their trek is certainly not a very optimistic sign for the warm blooded Singaporeans.

Barely 32 hours after ~~pwning~~ getting pwned by the econs paper, Blogger Chan's took his first ever non-budget flight that's paid with his own money.

To his money worth, Blogger Chan had to wolf down anything that was edible, while fixating his eyes at the young pretty air stewardesses around him.

Upon arrival at Nepal International Airport, Blogger Chan was immediately mobbed by his Nepalese fan girls.

Hence, Blogger Chan hurriedly got into the waiting taxi to bring us to our hotel but within minutes, we were snared into a traffic jam. In front of him, Blogger Chan could see a sea of humans walking towards their cab.

"Oh my god, its those Nepalese fan girls again trying to win my hand.", thought Blogger Chan

Turned out there was about a million protesters blocking the road junction ahead.

After waiting for half an hour, Blogger Chan ~~decided~~ was forced to get to the hotel by foot with his 16.1kg backpack.

After settling down in their hotel rooms, they did a final equipment check before heading out for dinner.

Knowing that this might be the last proper full meal they are going to have in the next 2 weeks, they followed their Singaporean's instincts diligently and over-ordered their food.

As smart as always, Blogger Chan decided to order Indian curry as part of his acclimatization plan for his solo India trip. Trainer Peck and Sherpa Lim wisely ordered Chinese food instead.

Blogger Chan doesn't have the time left to do a proper entry because just a few hours ago, something akin to the dropping of Little Boy on Hiroshima occurred right in Blogger Chan's room.

Among the many debris laid scattered on the floor, these are some of the people Blogger Chan wish to thank for making Long Way Up possible (besides the monsters Blogger Chan is going with)

First to thank is Blogger Chan's papa, who gave him US$300 when Blogger Chan severely under calculated his budget and burst his own ~~balls~~ bank in the process.

Next to thank is Sotong Tay, who kindly loaned Blogger Chan his back pack and is always more than willing to rub Blogger Chan whenever he feels ~~horny~~ tired.

Following up is Porter Goh, who provided Blogger Chan with most of his ~~goalkeeper gear~~ alpine wear, and also not forgetting letting Blogger Chan use his long and hard stick.

Its that time of the semester again, where Blogger Chan's exam performance is determined by the number of temples he managed to go and pray before the the exams.

While my fellow course mates marked the start of the study week by feverishly-ing burying their heads into lecture notes and textbooks, Blogger Chan, much to his horror, received yet another dreaded email from ~~Sadist~~ Trainer Peck.

Its not as if Blogger Chan have already started preparations for the exams, but as Blogger Chan was complementing whether to just ignore Trainer Peck's email, an image of Trainer Peck roasting Blogger Chan for meat in Nepal to satisfy her meat craving conjured up in Blogger Chan's mind. Quickly putting that horrid image to the back of his mind, Blogger Chan meekly accepted Trainer Peck's training order.

It made the matter worse when Blogger Chan recalled that the study plan last semester with Blogger Tan failed so miserably.

While everyone else was enjoying the long weekend on Good Friday, Blogger Chan was ordered by ~~Sadist~~ Trainer Peck to report at Kranji MRT on Thursday at 2030hrs for his first training session with them after skipping 291817 training sessions conducted by Trainer Peck due to Blogger Chan's ~~excellent ninja-siaming technique~~ heavy school load this semester.

So after ~~sleeping~~ storing energy for the training session during the Managerial Accounting lecture from 2pm to 4pm, Blogger Chan got back home and started packing for his overseas mission.

As this is Blogger Chan''s first overseas mission in three years, Blogger Chan cannot remember what to pack for an overseas mission anymore. However, the problem was solved very quickly after putting his shoe and some clothes into his bag.

Somehow, Blogger Chan got the feeling that he is supposed to bring a larger bag.

After Blogger Chan met up with the rest at Kranji MRT, they crossed over to Malaysia with surprisely minimal jam and they eneded up with 2 hours to spare at Larkin Bus Terminal. Finally after stoning for 2 hours, Blogger Chan were finally ready to board the bus when their first mishap happened - Sherpa Lim's waterbag decided to take a leak in his bag.

Transferring the water out of the water bag. (Note: Blogger Chan's bag here looks small here because of some camera trick. Moreover, Blogger Chan volunteered to help the rest of them to carry their stuff in plastic bags because their bags had no more space to store.)

After a 4.5 hrs ride on the bus, Blogger Chan arrived at Pudaraya Bus Terminal, Kuala Lumpur.

Next, Blogger Chan transferred to an pre-arranged cab to bring him to Bentong town.

Midway on the expressway to Bentong, Blogger Chan saw a car stuck in the ditch with the driver still inside. Blogger Chan decided to stop and rescue the driver.

Blogger Chan decided the driver was fine when he found her in the driver seat alive and kicking and trying to still drive her car out of the ditch in a futile effort.

Blogger Chan arrived at Bentong Town and transferred to another cab to take him to the foot of Gunung Rajah.

Next, Blogger Chan met up with their guide for the trek , Joe, who rode his motorbike to the starting point of the trek while the Blogger Chan painstakingly walked for 1.5 hrs to get to the starting point.

Days to Long Way Up: 38

Amidst the war that Blogger Chan has been battling everyday this semester, he has to also set aside time for training for Long Way Up.

After dashing to a 12:22 timing (fail timing) for SUMO Goh's 2.4km run during IPPT, Blogger Chan has decided to notch up his training program to 3 times a week.

With ~~some~~ a lot of discipline, Blogger Chan so far has been able to keep to a 3 times a week workout schedule. Coupled with advice from Trainer Peck and videos from YouTube, Blogger Chan is also doing psychotherapy whenever he can find the time to strengthen his croaking knees.

Preparation is the key to everything. Just like for school, you can't just sit for university exams without at least going to the temple to pray for luck to bestow upon you. Likewise for Long Way Up, Blogger Chan will get back to training mode once again to prepare for it.

Blogger Chan is always prepared for everything and anything, even for the least expected moments, which you can see from the video below.

From now till 30th June, most of the entries will be devoted to "Long Way Up" - which Blogger Chan attempts to fulfill some of his lifelong dreams.

Where will Blogger Chan be going?

Blogger Chan will be going to Gokyo Lake, Nepal for a 14+2 day trek and following that, Blogger Chan will become a nomad wandering around in Nepal/India.

Blogger Chan will be starting his adventure in Nepal, Kathmandu and should be ending his adventure in Chennai, India (Reason: Chennai is one of the two airports in India that Tiger Airways flies to. Of course if some kind soul is willing to extend momentary support to Blogger Chan, the end point will not be limited to just Chennai. It will be as far and wide as Blogger Chan dreams to go.)

The places Blogger Chan will be exploring between these two points will be the places Blogger Chan wants to go, to do what he always dream of doing so.

How long will Blogger Chan be away?

Blogger Chan has no idea for how long but Blogger Chan will be away from 1st May 2010. Blogger Chan will allow his ~~dreams~~ money to carry him to places as far as it can go. Naturally, Blogger Chan will find his way back when his backside gets too sore to be used.

Everyone enjoys coming out of retirement once in a while. Let me showcase some of the idols I worshiped that had 虫出江湖.

First we have the wizardly wicked Pele.

Pele came out of retirement to led the New York Cosmos to the 1977 NASL championship in his final season.

Next is the legendary Ali.

Muhammad Ali came out of retirement in 1980 to face the current champion Larry Holmes in an attempt to win a heavyweight title for an unprecedented four times. It bcame Ali's only KO loss in his fighting career.

Third we have His Airness, Micheal Jordan.

Micheal Jordan came out of retirement not once but twice. In his first comeback, he lead the Bulls to three additional championships but in his second comeback, he was plagued by injury and thus was a disappointment in his last two seasons of his career.

Change is an never-ending process in life. It is inevitable and people believe in it. If we stop changing, we stop growing- it is as simple as that.

If you have failed to change, you have failed in life. Not just humans change. For thousand of centuries, animals change to adept to their environment for survival. People who refuse to change in this ever-changing society not only means they have stop growing, but they are falling behind with everyone as well. History has shown us that those that do not change do not survive, like the flightless Dodo bird and the monstrous T-Rex which you can find not in zoos but in museums, and to think that the humble cockroach has outlived T-Rex because of change. Even the human mankind has somehow evolved to what we are capable of now.
