Both suspects are between 25 and 30 years of age, five foot ten to six feet tall, and medium build.  The first suspect was wearing a white t-shirt with dark jeans and a North Carolina Tar Heel blue baseball cap.  The second suspect was also wearing a white t-shirt with dark jeans and had a black baseball cap with a red bill.  The second suspect was also wearing one black glove.

On April 23, 2013 Mr. Tafoya and Mr. Keller were arrested by property crimes detectives from the Peoria Police Department and Chandler Police Department.  Mr. Tafoya was charged with four counts of Organized Retail Theft, two counts of Trafficking in Stolen Property, two counts of Fraudulent Schemes, and two counts of Theft.  Mr. Keller was charged with 24 counts of Organized Retail Theft, 12 counts of Trafficking in Stolen Property, 12 counts of Fraudulent Schemes, and 12 counts of Theft.  Both Mr. Tafoya and Mr. Keller were booked into the Maricopa County Jail. 

Investigators are still seeking the fourth male suspect: Jorge Luis Sotelo, Jr.  He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately six feet tall and weighing around 235 pounds.  If you have any information relating to the whereabouts of Mr. Sotelo,  please contact the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS (948-6377).  Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $1,000.00 for information that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of Mr. Sotelo.  When calling, please reference Chandler Police report number 13-19145.

The Chandler Police Department and the Chandler community have benefited from the dedication and service demonstrated by the members of the Volunteers in Policing Program.  Over 685 members of our community have volunteered their time to work with us and serve as part of our organization. They have served with a sense of duty and focus that is admired and respected throughout the valley.  

 For 2012, we recognized three volunteers with a Special Recognition Award. This award is presented to volunteers who consistently exceed normal job requirements with at least one specific act of outstanding performance.  This may include a member proceeding with a pre-determined plan or program, which exemplifies the mission statement of the Chandler Police Department. Special Recognition Award recipients for 2012 were Rusty Austerman, Andrew Brill and David Riggall.  

We also recognized one volunteer with the Volunteer of the Year Award.  This award is presented to a volunteer for outstanding performance over a period of one year in achieving departmental goals and objectives through projects, programs, or situations requiring exceptional dedication. Feedback from volunteers and employees is used to recognize a volunteer for their dedication to the mission of the Chandler Police Department and the Volunteers In Policing program. This year’s Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to William Brewer.  
 
To honor the dedication and the hours donated over the years, CPD presents the Copper, Silver, Gold and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Volunteers received these awards based on their hours of service to the Chandler Police Department Volunteer Program. These awards are given to volunteers for total hours of service from their inception into the program.  

Bronze Recipients:  Bronze Awards are given to volunteers that have provided 1,000+ hours of service. The 2012 recipients were Rusty Austerman and Lynn Goldfeld and Tommy Gorey.

Silver Recipients:  Silver Awards are given to volunteers that have provided 2,000+ hours of service. The 2012 recipients were Robert Losey and Tommy Gorey.

Gold Recipients:  Gold Awards are given to volunteers that have provided 4,000+ hours of service. There were no 2012 recipients.  

Finally, the Life Time Achievement Award is awarded to volunteers that have provided 6,000+ hours of service and have made significant long-standing contributions to the Chandler Volunteers in Policing Program and the community we serve.  The 2012 recipient was David Schlau. Past recipients are Jack Bessler, Al Cote, Ken Hawkes, Dale Kline, Art Tucholski, and Carl White.

The suspect is described as a black male with balding salt and pepper hair.  He appears to be 40-50 years of age, and was last seen wearing a white, short-sleeve button down shirt and white shorts.

After a three-month long undercover operation, the Chandler Police Detectives arrested
Tarek Labadi (41 years old) for conducting a fencing operation for stolen property from his retail store, “Leno’s Mini Mart” located at 4750 E. Broadway Road in Phoenix.
Officers were tipped off by Sam’s Club/ Walmart’s Global Investigations Team, who discovered the fencing operation while looking into thefts of their products from the Germann and Arizona Avenue store in Chandler.  Sam’s Club/ Walmart assisted the Chandler Police Department during the operation, which led to the arrest of Labadi.
Search warrants were executed at the store and at Labadi’s residence located in the 2200 block of  E. Roma Avenue in Phoenix where nearly $50,000 dollars in cash and property was seized from along with five rifles and two handguns.

Labadi was using his store to purchase and sell stolen property including, cigarettes, electronics, computers, alcoholic beverages, cigars, personal hygiene products, music headphones, and televisions.
Labadi is being charged with multiple counts of buying and selling stolen property.

 A variety of departmental and city vehicles will be on display along with a car show featuring police and vintage cars.  Demonstrations will be given by the department’s K-9 Unit, and Tactical Robot Unit. 

 Officers from the police department’s many divisions will be available to speak with attendees.  Guided tours of the police department will be held every half-hour, and the fire department administrative building will be open to tours for the duration of the event.  This is a family event, so come out and meet your public safety personnel at our Public Safety day.

We will also be hosting a Shred-a-thon and prescription drug take back event.

Katie is five-foot four-inches tall and weighs around 140 pounds.  She has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white vest, red jeans, and gray high top shoes.  Katie also was wearing a black leather jacket.  Although she is special needs, Katie can communicate with sign language. 

Detectives from Chandler Police and the Gilbert Police Department are currently searching for Katie.  She has been entered into a national law enforcement database as missing/ endangered.  If you have any information on Katie’s whereabouts or think you may have seen her within the past 18 hours, please contact the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130.  When doing so, please reference police report number 13-009962.
