Saturday at the Mall

With this piece I was nervous to record my day at work because no one is allowed to record or take pictures inside the mall. I asked the security guards first and they were fine with it as long as the mall manager didnt see. So I started to record bits a pieces of my day. I sped up me going up and down the stairs because that is what we do ALL the time. Everything we need to clean with is upstairs in our office so we constantly are in the back getting stuff. That was my long day of work so everything to me was kind of a blurr which is why I put two images on top of each other, because I was there but everything is blurred together.

The meaning of this piece is that everyone knows what our mall looks like, but there is more too it then what you see when you come to visit. There are a ton of things that are getting done behind the scenes that you dont always see.

This podcast that I have made is about Conflux, an art exhibit that I had went to earlier in the quarter. The exhibit to me was very interesting which is why I chose to use it for this project.

Ok so my top pics for the Art show would have to be the the Digitally made Island(Cant really remember the name) But I just loved how it looked.

My second pic would be the plant that makes nose due the light coming near it in certain spots.

My last pic would have to be Beep Boop. Even though the sound annoyed me at first it still did a great job at catching my attention.

I actually really enjoyed listening to Raphael talk about his works. Other than the fact he had an awesome accent the stuff that he does with technology is amazing. Just being able to take someones movement by just having sensors on him and then turning it into a sculpture is in my opinion amazing.

This is my soundscape I made for my art class. I used the program audacity to create my own piece from the sounds I collected while walking around the Ohio State University Campus in Mansfield. The sounds that attracted me the most where they ones that were loud and could fill up a room such as footsteps, music, people talking or moving furniture around. At first I wasnt sure of what to do, but once I started I decided to take sounds from each building that I went into while recording sounds and put them together as if it was in one building. Some sounds I had to make softer so they did not drown out all the other sounds.

The SoundLab piece that I chose to listen to for my homework was Tactical20 by Greg Scranton. When I first listened to the piece it reminded me of a computer, it was as if I was in the computer, listening to the sounds and the "voice" of the computer. It also has a dark sound to it and for some reason it catches my attention throughout the whole piece.

I was at the Oho State University Mansfield Library.

From 3:45 to 3:55

When I first started to listen to my surroundings, a cell phone went off with a sharp high pitched sound. Lasting for only few seconds, the room grows quiet again. It’s not long until someone place their book bag on the ground and begins opening. The zipper making a quick sound before the person beings pulling things out of the bag and placing them softly on the table. In the distant someone is continuously rustling through some papers. The same cell phone goes off once again making the same high pitched sound as before. While the phone is going off, someone coughs loudly and abrasively starts to clear their throats.

A monitor is turned on, the beeping from it echoes softly throughout the room. Behind me a girl turns to pages of her book, and beings to underline whatever she is reading. Off at the other end of the room, someone is loudly moving their stuff around before dropping a book on the floor. A girl behind me is softly whispering to someone for about three minutes before falling quiet again. Another person coughs while someone is walking towards where I am sitting, their pants swishing together with each step that they take. When they get to the table in front of me, the set their stuff down on the floor and pulls out the chair, making a scratching sound against the floor. They unzip their backpack and being taking their books out and placing them on the table. The girl behind me begins to softly talk again when the ten minutes are up.
