Run Hard is an after school program that builds confidence in kids by teaching life values through the sport of running. Kids train for eight weeks to finish a 5k road race while learning life values that help them become better teammates.

Through the Run Hard program kids build confidence and self-esteem by reaching the physical goal of finishing a 5k. Run Hard is a great way for kids to set goals and become more confident.

Safety in and around water is an area of concern for many parents, especially as summer months are approaching. Living near a lake, pool, and other bodies of water can be both a luxury and an opportunity to learn more about safety. Infant Swimming Resource (ISR) Self-Rescue™ is one program in our community with the goal to teach desired skills for children and their caregivers.

ISR lessons are one-on-one and customized for the developmental level of each child. Lessons are offered to children, generally six months old to six years old, by a certified ISR instructor.

Time is surely flying by. I have been blessed to be able to serve this community for the past seventeen years. The little babies I held on their first days of life are now seniors in high school.

In this season of Thanksgiving I have paused to reflect on things that I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my family who has provided unwavering support from the very beginning as I dreamed and planned and finally opened the doors on August 1, 2005 to begin serving you. I am thankful for this community that has supported me and trusted me with the care of its children. I am thankful that Chapin Pediatrics has been able to expand to meet the needs of a growing community. Dr. Shealy, Jay, Dr. Bolen, and Julie are amazing providers to work alongside to deliver excellent healthcare. Erin and Lindsey do a tremendous job managing the day in and out tasks and have led us in adapting to the ever changing world of healthcare. Our team of front office staff and clinical staff do an incredible job of serving our patients and their families. I am also thankful for all of the staff that have come and gone and helped shape Chapin Pediatrics into what it is today.

Although we strive to grow and adapt, our mission and vision will continue to be the foundation that we rest upon.

We had great success with our drive thru flu shot clinic last year so we are hosting two of them this year. Please see below for some tips to help us make this as efficient as possible:

 

1. All those being vaccinated should stay in their car seat, preferably in the side seats rather than the middle.

2. Please have your child dress in short sleeves if they are 5 or older or shorts for 4 and younger. This allows easy access to arms or legs.

3. Children receiving the vaccine should not be eating or drinking during the vaccine.

4. Please do not have any pets in your vehicle!

5. If the patient is old enough to drive themself, they will be asked to pull to a parking spot for 15 minutes after their vaccination before being cleared to leave.

*You can NOT receive the flu shot if you have recently been exposed to COVID-19, are quarantined, or are currently experiencing sick symptoms.

This month’s Train up a Child post comes from Jason Brewer, father of four daughters.

  

“Bad guys get the voice of a villain. Turtles talk slow and rabbits talk fast. But the hero -always- gets your natural voice. These great lessons I learned from none other than children’s audio storyteller and author, Jim Weiss.

 

My children are always quick to share what fond memories they have of our story time. I would find great stories then bring them to life by voicing the characters. This made it more interesting for me and engaging for the children.

 

Did you know, in The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio is thrown into the sea and eaten by fishes? And in The Fox and The Hound by Daniel P. Mannix, the little foxes disobey their parents by stealing chickens, resulting in their whole family being hunted down.

 

Reading stories is an opportunity to share life lessons and engage in discussions of right and wrong, choices and consequences, and how our decisions affect the people around us. They bring us together as a family and strengthen our foundation.

 

Could you use a life hack on how to make your children hang on your every word? Read them stories, and be the hero.”
