Well, if it was Monday the title of this post would have been Music Monday which is appropriately catchy. But it's not Monday, and this song is too good not to share right this minute. Contagious clapping and smiling will ensue. Enjoy :)

I've had my eye on pretty ceramics lately. Here are a few that have piqued my interest...

(Jean-François Fouilhoux /France. Image via)
Oh pretty. An unusual form for ceramic, and how did they stabilize that to get it to the kiln? Impressive.

(Morten Løbner Espersen/Denmark. Image via)

Whoa. That is blowing my mind. Is it an ocean creature or a vessel? Gimme.

(Jane Reumert/Denmark. Image via)
This would be so stunning with a glowing tea light.

Image via)

I think I'm attracted most to the thin delicacy of these ceramic pieces. These are all pretty pretty pretty!

I do wish that the builder looked to more 'authentic spanish' style and less newer-Mediterranean-ish. I've been wanting to clad strategic parts of the exterior with sun drenched rocks and pretend it's an older home. I'm constantly keeping a file of Spanish homes that I can use as inspiration for my own..

The tree so perfectly offers a branch of protection. And the pools slow, wide steps would be perfect to lounge on. Not to mention the bajillion other pretty things happening in this picture. And a water slide. I'm sure the Romans and Spaniards had water slides too.

Smart to use an XL, neutral rug as a base then add a smaller rug to make the room feel more intimate.

I have very fond memories of my mom and I making pretty Easter eggs when I was growing up. Also funny memories of having to extract the yolk and whites out of the egg via the tiniest pinhole. Lots of sore cheeks and laughs.

Aren't these nice? I naturally would have made the eggs colored, but these are a fresh update to the norm.

It's crazy powerful. As I was flipping through my most recent issue of Hospitality Design (because I can't get enough hotel design in my brainfiles), and the primary principle almost all the hotels use is repetition. Lots of same thing, over and over. I don't even mean "similar" I mean the same. So if you want to make a big impact in your casa, repeat it (this also makes for a great plan to use for landscape design).

Check it out these spaces:

The especially great aspect of this rule is that the thing you are repeating doesn't need to be fancy, it can be a everyday thing or incredibly simple.
A good rug can ground a space, provide inspiration, texture, color- well the options are endless really. But lately I've been panicking about pattern on a rug. I am not a girl that shies away from pattern, but I feel like all of a sudden, a rug with a hearty pattern makes the whole space feel messy. My new requirements would be that if the rug has a pattern, then all the upholstered pieces need to be in a light neutral like ivory or at a MINIMUM a solid color. AND they need to be clean lined and very simple. You can't compete with the rug.
I've been interested in scale patterns now for about a year.. and there are only signs of the scaley pattern growing with the Deco trend starting to show its face around town. Domino Mag is coming back???????!! WHAT?!!

My first reaction was Ohhh hell ya!.. but then I started to think more about it and it made me a little itchy. I like Domino Mag. It was full of applicable, doable, likeable ideas. BUT it was so... Domino-ish. It's easy to pick out a room designed by a devout Domino-follower. GRANTED, the doors were shut in 2009, so who really knows what would have evolved over the last few years. But if I see one more cluster of empty frames or over-sized vintage letter caressing an eating nook wall, I might die. And for some reason, the file box in my mind credits Domino with said movements. I will say there are some beautifully designed moments in Domino (many of which have been written about on this-here blogaroo). With all that said, I'm sure I'll buy the 'Quick Tips' version for $10.99.

Conde Nast, can we please discuss resurrecting House & Garden? Stunner of a good magazine.

These photos certainly belong with this grouping.

Also, I just returned from Market last week and want to share some fun pics. Stay tuned amigos.

I'm thinking paint could be fun, or stain a pattern into it.. here are some floors from my due diligence. Which is your fave?

(via)
Pretty. No one ever argues with gray and white.

(via)
I like seeing the floor boards through the paint..

#WINNING! Gosh, love the rawness + frilly pattern + big scale. But maybe this is too distracting for the shop? I want people to look at the pretty things I'm selling.. not at the amazing floor. Right? Ohh but this floor is so pretty, I want.

Oh me likey this one too, and the adorable aqua settee doesn't hurt either.

Miles Redd's entry. His floors are usually pattern-y, he's used the rhombus trio more than once.

A little hexagon for your afternoon? I really love the scale and drama this brings.. I wonder if I could do this pattern but have the wood be more raw and floor-boardy.. hmmm...

I'll keep you posted on how things turn out!

Now that I'm all grown up and have a retail store, I'm much more watchful of window displays. Not that I didn't always oogle over good windows, now I want ideas (gimmmmme). Check out some of these windows that caught my eye.

Oh my, paint can be so tricky..

(via)

This particular window is by Woodson & Rummerfield's House of Design for Legends of La Cienega.

And no one can do a post about windows without mentioning Bergdorfs..

My takeaway here is that these almost all tell a story, I think the good ones do anyways. That's the idea that I'm stealing. Tell a storyyyyyyy.
I was recently hired to create a master bathroom that is family friendly but still has a masculine foundation... here are a few of the inspiration images that I found in my due-diligence..

(via)

Gosh that sink is amazing. Also love the shelf with the layered art, it removes the sterility of a bathroom. Although even without that art, this particular bathroom doesn't say sterile at all. The brass fixutre and arched floor mirror are both wonderful.

(via)
I wish the mirror was a bit larger here, but the tub alcove is something to be excited about.

(via)
Take note of the floating vanities in this bathroom, so often we resort to the automatic solution for bathrooms (put the vanity on a wall) becuase 99% of the time it is the right solution, but this is stunning. I'm so glad the designer/architect exploited this opportunity.

(via)

(via)

(via)

Oy, love the walls.

(via)
Simple and clean. Not fussy but also not under-designed. The lights are the trick here.

What are my take-aways from these bathrooms? I'd like to see a natural wood element, I think it softness the often-cooler palette that a masculine space will have. I also like a darker stone element (floor maybe?). A white square sink is a must-have, maybe a counter sink or an undermount depending on requirements. And also a small mosaic stone addition, loving hexagons these days...

I'll post my mood board for this space as soon as I finish 'er up..
