San Diego CA-July 1, 2009 – The San Diego Chargers announced today that the team’s 2009 Training Camp will be closed to the public due to on-going repairs being conducted to the underground storm drain system in the area.

“Training camp is a special time for our fans, and the decision to close camp this year was made very reluctantly,” said Jim Steeg, the Chargers’ Chief Operating Officer. “We share the city’s goal of completing these critical repairs during the dry summer months so in the end, we had no alternative but to take this step.”

The area’s drainage system failed during heavy rains in February, causing significant flooding of the Chargers’ practice fields and training facility. Since that time, the Chargers and the city of San Diego have been working closely together as the city has undertaken the necessary repairs. These repairs are still in progress and will likely continue through the fall.

To allow fans to enjoy practices during the repairs, the Chargers will hold practices on Aug. 5, 8 and 12 at Qualcomm Stadium that will be free and open to the public.

“The unfortunate closing of our training camp means that the entire Chargers’ organization will work to find other ways to provide our fans with the chance to see the practices that they enjoy during training camp,” continued Steeg.

More details on the public practices will be announced at a later date.

“One day you will be the proudest mom in the whole world. . . .”

When San Diego Chargers running back and NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson (“LT”) was a senior in high school, he wrote his mom a letter making three promises: he would go to college, he would play professional football, and he would make her the proudest mother in the world.

In LT & Me, Loreane Tomlinson shares the amazing story of how all of her son’s seemingly impossible dreams came true.

This heartfelt memoir traces LT’s journey from small-town boy who carried a football everywhere he went to NFL superstar, and the behind-the-scenes story of the woman he calls his inspiration who helped make it all happen. How did this struggling single mom, who often worked two or more jobs at once, manage to scrape together the money for LT to attend his first football camp? Why did she reach out to make peace with her children’s father even as he battled the addictions that had once torn their home apart? What did she do to cultivate the talents—and shape the character—of the young man who has been described as representing “all that is good in sports today”?

This inspiring book is for every parent who has ever wondered how to bring out the champion in their kids, and every kid who dreams of being something more.

Front Flap Copy
“What’s your secret to raising a champion?”

People have been asking Loreane Tomlinson that question for years. When they meet the mother of LaDainian “LT” Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers running back and NFL MVP, they think of her successful son—who is not only at the top of his profession but is also known for his strong character and unwavering commitment to God and family—and they understandably want to know how she did it.

In LT & Me, Loreane shares her secrets to identifying and nurturing your kids’ dreams. She reveals what she did right as a parent, what she did wrong, what she did when she didn’t know what to do, and where she found God in it all. Containing a foreword by LT, never-before-published photos, close-up glimpses of football games and red carpet events, encouragement and wisdom for single parents, and personal family stories, LT & Me is packed with behind-the-scenes information for those curious about one of the modern-day football greats. And ultimately this touching story of the love between a mother and a son will bring families closer together and give special insight into how they can help each other reach their full potential in life . . . on and off the field.
