So why is Paul repeatedly called an isolationist?

Apparently in today’s political world, being an
isolationist means opposing the U.S. government’s policing the rest
of the world through invasion, occupation, and war—that is,
militarism. The word “isolationist” has always suggested a fear of
foreigners, and no doubt those who apply the word to Paul want to
cash in on that sense. So we are left with the daffy conclusion
that Ron Paul is a xenophobic, head-in-the-sand isolationist
precisely because he prefers peaceful trade with foreigners rather
than invasion, occupation, and demolition of their countries.
If that’s what it means to be an isolationist, count me as one
too.

It’s easy to understand why this inappropriate label is stuck on
Paul. Establishment conservatives and progressives are terrified by
him and desperately want him to go away. They’re terrified because
he has done the worst thing imaginable: he has held up a mirror and
reminded them of what they are.

He has shown establishment conservatives and even so-called
Republican moderates (such as Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman) that
they are, and long have been, apologists for empire and therefore
betrayers of the republican (small-r) ideals they say they embrace.

...

Which brings us to the progressives. If you think establishment
conservatives are scared of Ron Paul, imagine how Obama and his
supporters must feel. Can you imagine their having to run against a
staunch antiwar, pro-Bill of Rights opponent? This is the same
Obama who has maintained Guantanamo, launched more deadly drone
attacks than George W. Bush, signed into law the authority to
detain individuals indefinitely without charge or trial, claimed he
may kill even American citizens without due process, cracked down
harshly on whistle-blowers, protected torturers from legal
consequences, invoked state secrets to quash lawsuits by torture
victims, and on and on.

via reason.com

Voters are trying to maneuver through the political bull crap this election season. From extreme right wing evangelical endorsed candidates to candidates that flip flop on issues and those that have little integrity, I have found one candidate that has not wavered in his position: Ron Paul. He represents what I believe, that the government's role is a limited one. We need a leader like Paul who has a vision to bring the United States back to it's glory. We need a leader that understands fiscal responsibility and will protect personal rights.

The main reason Republicans and Democrats don't like Ron Paul is because of his foreign policy. But our current foreign policy is what has brought on more animosity against us. Theodore Roosevelt said to "speak softly and carry a big stick". That is the type of foreign policy we should have. But many on both sides of the political isle think we need to be aggressive and have an "in your face" foreign policy. This post from Reason.com explains isolationism and imperialism and why Ron Paul is right with his foreign policy.

I am not a foreign policy expert, but I think it's fairly easy to see that our involvement in policing the world and nation building is seen as intrusive and unwelcoming. We can be the great power we are without "poking the bear". We can support our allies when they need us. We can be ready at a moments notice to strike if ever necessary. But we do not need to be antagonizing our neighbors.

What are your thoughts?

I'm aggravated when a group of people (occupiers) with cozy lives are essentially challenging the ideals of the very people (military) out there sacrificing their very lives so the former group (occupiers) can have a cozy life. If someone is going to tell me they are willing to fight for my Freedom and give up their normal life so I can have a normal life, I'd listen to his/her ideals and give weight to them. I'd respect a soldiers point of view more than a Michael Moore-ish, entitlement attitude. Yes we all have a certain amount of free speech, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion (no matter how wrong they are). However, how many occupiers are willing to go fight a war for their Freedom? NOT MANY. Some, maybe, but not many. What gratitude to our service men and women around the world when they are sacrificing their lives and comfort while occupiers sit on their butts shouting "give me" and "it's not fair". Since when was life fair anyway? But even the poorest American has more than most people on the planet. Is THAT fair?

So yes, it's a cozy life when comparing living somewhere with bombs going off everyday, or living in substandard conditions with no running water or electricity to what even most of our poorest in America have. And yet as we can see with the occupy movement, it isn't enough for them. "Give me more. Give me what I want. Give me what I think I deserve." Should we strive to raise everyone's standards? Yes. And consider that at one time only the wealthy could afford a TV. Now most of our poor have 2 or even 3 TV's! Think about every luxury this Country offers (electricity, running water, video games, leather shoes, tooth brushes, social networking, etc), and compare to the rest of the world. The standard of living for our poor is higher than for the poor around the world. The standard of living for our poor has risen consistently and even exponentially compared to the wealthy. As an occupier, are you willing to give half of what you have to someone elsewhere on this planet to make their life more fair and equal compared to yours? If you are willing, then DO IT. Don't be a hypocrite. If not, then stop protesting. It is foolish.

Many occupiers are upset there are "no jobs". Hey occupier, why do you want to work for the 1% when you are protesting against them anyway? You are demanding they give you a job, yet you have no problem condemning them. That's called biting the hand that feeds you. Either stop condemning the 1% or go find a job you are qualified for. My 12 year old son even goes out and hustles to do little jobs to make money to buy things he wants, and he even contributes to the family! Why is it so hard for the average occupier to do the same. Jobs are there. Go hustle to get one, or create one! Most occupiers just don't want the jobs that are there. That is why illegal immigration is allowed to proliferate in the USA: there are jobs that need to be done and illegals are willing to do them! Jobs are there. Have you not searched job websites? There are hundreds of job sites with thousands upon thousands of jobs posted. Maybe there are many jobs you are not qualified for, or in your realm of ability but keep searching and you will find the jobs that do match your ability. Technology has made it so easy. Learn how to optimize your resume and profile on sites like LinkedIn.com and recruiters will call YOU.

But in the event you can't find a job and wonder why you can't, think about what you buy and where it's made. It's ironic that the occupiers protest jobs being outsourced yet are all to proud to use their Chinese made iPhones to snap photos about the OWS movement and post to social networking sites such as the one where the conversation was initiated that sparked my thoughts here.

Maybe if the 99% were willing to take jobs the illegals are willing to do and if the 99% stopped buying foreign made goods, there would be less unemployed. Just sayin...

Related articles

The poorest 99 percent (chicagoreader.com)

I am. Are you joining "causes" out of fear of being called insensitive if you don't? I would rather be deemed insensitive and have my priorities straight, than support things I truly have no interest in supporting. One of the driving factors why these "causes" gain so much attention is because we as humans like to feel included in something. We want relational relationships. We like having things in common with each other. And we want to support others in their time of need, and hopefully we will be supported in ours. So we join "causes", "groups", "clubs", "communities", and "social networks". There's nothing really wrong with that. It's natural for humans to form small communities.

However, there seems to be a "cause" for everything (no pun intended), especially various diseases and health problems. I realize having a disease is a tragic thing for anyone's life. But there are hundred's if not thousands of "causes" for some disease or other. And it is simply impossible to be a champion for every cause. So instead of joining every "cause", I join none. I have family members that suffer from heart disease, stroke, cancer, and other such issues. So I do understand the difficulties of dealing with them. On an individual basis, I am there for those that need the support.

I firmly believe you attract what you think about. Scoff at me if you want. But we do need to take responsibility for our every thought! Negative thoughts, thoughts about anything with a negative driving force, can be magnetized and draw a negative experience into your life based on the feelings you have about those thoughts. Our thoughts are magnetized. It has been proven thoughts are a form of energy, and energy can become matter. As Mike Dooley from the movie "The Secret" says, "Thoughts become things".

We need to change our focus and celebrate the "cause" of life itself! Imagine how the world would change if we changed our focus from championing a "cause" for illness, to championing the only One that can truly eradicate it: God.

I hear that Apple products are great. However, I do not own nor have ever owned an Apple product, other than the QuickTime and iTunes software that can be downloaded to a Windows computer. My wife does own an iPod though. And my son is eagerly earning his way to an iPod Touch.
My experience with Apple products has not been very encouraging. I remember typing up my resume on a Mac back in 1995 or 1996 and having a difficult time with it. The Mac just wasn't very intuitive for me. I do wish I had stuck to it and learned it better though. But when I used a Windows PC, it just seemed easier. I figured it was a right brain/left brain thing. That struggle left me sour on Apple. So I gravitated towards Windows. There also was a period of time when I had someone regularly emailing me compressed files. He used a Mac and used the Stuffit program. I used a PC and WinZip. It was always a challenge to uncompress the "stuffed" files because the programs were not easily compatible with the competing Operating Systems. We did eventually get it figured out. But that is how fickle we can be as consumers: if it doesn't work how we want, when we want, we look for a solution that will. But that is why Apple has done so well.
Steve Jobs knew people wanted a quality product, one without hassles or security issues. So while MicroSoft owned the market for personal computers, Steve Jobs was patiently picking away it and through the years has taken a large part of that market away from MicroSoft. But Steve was a visionary and knew that personal devices were going to be a larger market than personal computers and he invested in the innovation of those technologies developing the iPod, iPhone and iPad. As people became more aware of the Apple brand through these other technologies, and fell in love with the brand, Steve was able to leverage that and gain even more market share from Microsoft on the personal computer front.
I have to admit that I am much more likely to purchase an Apple product today for myself than I was 10 or even 5 years ago. I think of all the productivity lost waiting for Windows to update, or recover from a crash over the years and cringe that I have just accepted it as my reality. The variety of products that Apple offers for the various aspects of life sure do make it more appealing to invest in their products.
Steve Jobs certainly did build a great tech and media empire with Apple. It is amazing to think what a great part in technology he played. He had a great insight for what consumer would want and need. While I do not use it often, iTunes has changed the music industry, and as a ripple effect has changed the radio industry. Many naysayers believed these types of changes would be the demise of radio, however I think it's plain to see they have enhanced the radio industry.
Now that the iMan, the great modern innovator is gone, it will be interesting to see where Apple takes us next. Did Steve share his intuitive insights with the leadership team he put in place to replace him? It would be logical that he did. The question more so is if they have the same intuition and know how to keep it moving forward. The proof will be in the pudding.
In the mean time, I am considering purchasing an Apple product. What would you recommend be my first Apple purchase?

I have been without my Blackberry for a while. The smart phone stopped being smart and I couldn't even use it as a phone. Fortunately it was still under warranty so I was able to get it fixed. Not having this type of connection was actually a good thing. It reminded me that it is important to disconnect regularly, daily even. Doing so in this always connected world is tough, but doable. Having a smart phone does have its advantages when it comes to social media though! So I am glad to be able to participate more frequently, but the down time also allowed me to reflect on how I was using social media and to develop a strategy that is not so consuming. I hope too elaborate as I implement what I want to do. What are some things you do, or systems you have to avoid getting burned out?

She's fourteen now. Facebook "rules" state children must be at least thirteen. I have seen many parents circumvent that rule and let their children younger than thirteen have an account. I'm not sure what use it is to a six, seven, ten or even twelve year old. Personally, I think doing that teaches children to disrespect the rules, and authority. It tells children it's okay to break the rules when it suits you. If you are one of those parents, don't be surprised when they break YOUR rules. You have set the precedent.

We took our time, and learned the pros and cons of social networking before allowing our oldest to participate. And of course it is still evolving. Naturally, our daughter has been wanting one since she turned thirteen, as most, if not all her friends were already on Facebook too, and Facebook says it's okay at thirteen. But we know from personal experience it can be a time waster. And there are hidden dangers lurking on the Internet. So we wanted to be sure she understood how to use the social networking tool. With the privacy settings changing regularly, we felt additional precautions were necessary. After all, WE as parents get to decide when our children are old enough for, and have a reasonable reason for using Facebook. Thirteen is the age Facebook is comfortable with, but you don't have to sign your child up immediately on their thirteenth birthday. We didn't. And now we are confident enough in the service's privacy settings and in our daughter for understanding the need to be selective and cautious.

We're encouraging our family members and close friends to connect with her. However we also think about how some people, even family and close friends, are not careful about what they post and not selective about who gets to read their content. I want to remind you that there are minors on Facebook, as well as the rest of the Internet. Either your friends have children they allow on Facebook or maybe you have children that you allow on Facebook. You should be selective what you post and who you allow to see your posts. Since there is no preview option (nor is it logical to have one) for parents to prescreen their children's newsfeed, photos, notes and other options, we are left to trust the network of friends and family we allow to connect with our children to be guardians of the community when we are not there.

One feature that Facebook and Google Plus have is "list" (Facebook) or "circles" (G+) where you can place your friends, family or other connections. People will only see the content posted to the list or circle you placed them in, and people don't know what list they have been placed in. Please use the list/circle feature with your friends and please put minors on a G-rated content list, meaning that what YOU post to that list is G-Rated. and I did say G-Rated because PG means Parental Guidance, and it is just not rational to expect parents to sit right next to their children during their Facebook time all the time.

If you need help learning how to use the "list" function, I am happy to explain. The owner brokered the time on the station, meaning anyone could pay to have a show. There was one broker who was paying for a bulk of time, which was from 6am-6pm Monday through Saturday. He had defaulted on his payments so I terminated his contract the 1st of September. I decided to continue the format he was doing, which was hip hop/r n b. He had built up a decent following and had some advertisers. I took over the morning show responsibilities on an interim basis until I could find someone to do it. Yeah, hard to imagine me doing hip hop/r n b, but it was fun. I had a great Program Director (Rickie Ricardo) and Music Director (Jonathon Donker). They knew the music very well and programmed the station like we were in New York City. Jonathon actually lived in Brooklyn and would commute every other day to Southington, where the studio was located, to give us the music logs. We also aired news from Metro News at the top of the hour and traffic a couple times an hour during the morning show. We had a direct feed to the Metro News studios via an ISDN line.

I want to back up a little here too, just to give some background perspective. I had only started at WXCT in July 2001. At the time my wife and I had two children; my daughter would turn 4 on September 10 and my son was 2 and a half. When I took the job to manage the station, I moved to Connecticut ahead of them to find a place and get settled. They arrived in Connecticut at the beginning of September. My mom was living on Long Island, and upon my family's arrival in Hartford, we drove down to see my mom to celebrate my daughter's birthday. This was their first visit to New York City. And it was the weekend before the events that would change the New York City skyline forever.

The morning of September 11, 2001, I was doing the morning show. At the top of the 9am hour my news girl called in to do the news. Of course her lead story was that at 8:45am a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, but there were few details. We briefly discussed what the possibilities were, after all how can you accidentally crash into those buildings! But at first, that was the only theory available. While we were talking about the crash, unbeknownst to us, the second plane hit the other tower at 9:03am. Our newscast was five minutes long, and so at 9:05am she signed off and I started up another song. Just a couple minutes later, she called back and told me of the other crash. I interrupted the song and put her back on to update the listeners. At this point, we knew what had happened was not an accident, but did not have details of who or why. After her brief update, I went back into another song. I spoke with my news girl off the air and she offered us a direct feed to Fox News, which they had in their studio so we could monitor any breaking news about the story.

Jonathon was scheduled to call in a review of the the Michael Jackson concert at Madison Square Garden he had attended the night before. He called in, but instead of talking about Michael Jackson, he was giving us a man-on-the-scene report of what he saw happening there in New York City. We were the only station in Hartford that I know of that had someone in New York City, broadcasting live almost immediately after the crashes. I also called our Town Manager in Southington and put him on the air to ask about emergency preparedness. He basically told us to stay calm and wait for further instruction, should there be any. One of my dj's, Saracita, brought a small TV from home so we could monitor the major networks for any breaking news. The whole morning was surreal. Southington is only a couple hours from New York City, and having learned the crashes were terrorist attacks was disconcerting. We spent the rest of the day glued to the TV watching the towers fall, the replays of the events captured and wondering what the future held for our Country.

I don't personally know anyone who lost their lives on September 11th, but working in radio we as an industry did lose several colleagues who were manning their stations in the World Trade Center, as it housed many radio and television towers atop the buildings. Our prayers are with all of those who lost someone due to the tragic events that changed the United States of America and the World. Our thanks to those First Responders were on the scene helping and sacrificing their safety during such a chaotic time.

We will remember, forever.

Related articles

New York Commemorates 9/11 (online.wsj.com)

Zemanta helped me add links & pictures to this email. It can do it for you too.

Some time ago I came across Mari Smith who is very good at the Social Media stuff. At the time, she was teaching best practices for using Facebook for networking and growing your business (I'm sure she still does). One thing she was teaching is how to use the little birthday reminder that pops up on the right hand side when a friend or connection has a birthday. Novel concept to get noticed. Her little tip was to spend five minutes a day visiting the birthday person's profile page and telling them Happy Birthday. This is simply done by clicking on their name when it appears on the right hand side of your Facebook profile listed as Today's Birthdays. You might think this is a no brainer, but do you use it everyday? Honestly I do try to, but I'm not perfect. I post a quick "Happy Birthday" on my friends pages and when their wall is not available to post on I do send them a message. Occasionally I'll forget to check, or the day is over before I get around to it. Shame on me for not making it a morning priority. I will try better, here forward.

Let's up the ante a bit though. What I wanted to really discuss is not just posting a quick birthday wish on their wall, but sending them a more personal message or email too. How about jumping over to Plaxo.com and sending an e-card? This may add a couple minutes to the routine, especially on those days where you have 20 people that all have birthdays that day! (incidentally a popular day among my friends is August 16th, What about you?) So the advantage with Plaxo is you can schedule the card to be sent in advance. That's a nifty little tool, and they do have free cards you can use too.

Now you have a system that will really make you stand out. Use Facebook's weekly birthday feature by clicking "see all" next to the Events tab on the right hand side of your Facebook profile, or click the name(s) directly next to a current birthday. In your notification settings you can have a weekly list emailed to you so you can see the upcoming birthdays. You can also download the birthdays from Facebook and add them to your Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, or Google Calendar too. Next, simply set a few minutes aside every Sunday evening (or which ever evening works best for you) as you are planning your week and go through the Facebook reminders and add them to your Plaxo address book. If you don't have your birthday friend's email address, then send them a quick message through Facebook requesting it. They will most likely get back to you within a day. Once the birthday and email address has been entered into Plaxo, it will remind you next year and make it even easier to send that birthday e-card.

Just remember, nothing beats the old fashioned birthday card in the mail! But in this time of electronic mail, an e-card can still be a powerful way to get noticed especially if you take the time to write something unique to each person.

Related articles

Plaxo: The Ultimate Application To Keep Your Address Book Up to Date (maketecheasier.com)

Zemanta helped me add links & pictures to this email. It can do it for you too.

I usually only like to post when I have something to say. Lately, I just haven't been so inspired. I have thought it odd because I do like to talk and share my opinion or POV (that's text lingo for "point of view"). I'm not sure if it is because of so much uncertainty and I'm waiting for to all settle down, if I have just exhausted my passion or if it is something else.

It can't be because of uncertainty, because I am certain of how things will shake out. It may take some time, but I know the end to this story. So I am not really frightened or worried. I am mostly restless, and impatient! And my wife will tell you, I am a very patient person.
I know it's not because of a loss of passion. Passion creates innovation. One does not take the path of least resistance when passionate. I would almost say that those with the most passion rarely follow, but rather lead or create new paths for others to follow. That is where I am at.

So why the lack of verbiage from me lately? Probably just temporary social media fatigue. There has been so much that has happened with social media over the last few years, and it has kept me busy. At the beginning of this summer, it seemed like there could be a lull in all the fervent activity. But alas, Google released Google Plus (G+)! And so in the social media circles, there has been a lot of buzz (small nod to one of Google's other social media projects) about G+, how it compares to Twitter and/or Facebook and how the social media landscape will change.
I've been playing on G+ a little (follow me at http://gplus.to/charlieprofit). And I think it's a great new service, although it is still in "Beta", which means one can or should expect issues from time to time. I have not had any myself. While I will continue to play on Twitter and Facebook, I will be spending time on G+ too. I think these social media services will be like choosing an email or Instant Message Provider: some like Hotmail, some Yahoo and some Google, while others prefer their ISP email service. People like me will play on all the playgrounds, while others will choose one and stay there. Fair enough.
The best part about G+ is you don't have to join to get updates! You can (and probably will) get some of my updates in your email in box; that is as long as I have your email address. You see, the best way to understand G+ is that it truly works like IRL (in real life). I choose a circle of friends that I want a specific message to go to, send it, and it is only that circle that gets it. Facebook actually has this little known feature too, using lists, but the difference is that G+ will also send the message via email to people that are not on G+ and may never want to be, but that I have included in a "circle" that I want to receive a post or message. Don't worry, you can opt out of receiving those messages, just like you would a newsletter you no longer want to subscribe to. I think that's pretty revolutionary; Google understands not everyone wants to join "another" social network, but people want to stay connected. In time, maybe they will join, if Google courts them properly.
So, my passion for social media is recharged, and as for radio...Stay tuned. I have an article being published this month on a well regarded industry website. Exciting times!
Please share your thoughts in the replies or click "Connect".

Recently I was asked by one of the parents at our son's Little League winter camp if I still do my radio show. This actually caught me off guard. I rarely get anyone asking about it. Of course I replied "no" as I have put it on the back burner. Last summer I thought that once we got back from our vacation, I would have time to resume doing it. But between work, family responsibilities and just trying to find time to unwind in between, the time just isn't there. But the question prompted me to ask myself why I really am not doing it. The most successful people in the world have the same 24 hour day and 7 day week as I do so it really comes down to priorities. We always do find time for those important things in life.
Lately I have felt like my life to be something that is in constant flux. There has constantly been something new to adapt to: we moved to Canada, I started a new job, we had a baby, etc. For some strange reason from the age of 27 to 37 I feel like things were more stable; but that's when I got married, we had four of our five children and I changed jobs several times! Talk about being in flux. And yet I was doing the things I was passionate about; I was working in the radio industry. And I was making time for those important things I like to do, and for those special people in my life.
There is always time for what we want to do. We make time. Let's look at a common example: Want to work out or exercise? You can easily make the time by cutting out a less productive activity like watching American Idol (or be creative and work out while you watch it!). It's really a matter of making a schedule and sticking to it as much as possible. Will things divert you on occasion? Sure! This is "life" we talking about. But you can always get back on schedule by either skipping something less important, or just wait until the next day and start fresh.
It's time for me to reevaluate and make the time to do my radio show. For me, that may mean changing jobs again, or simply adjusting my sleep schedule to accommodate an extra hour or two every day. The idea of doing the show always excites me, especially in this age of social media. The only thing stopping me is "time". Maybe it's time for another detour to get me where I want to go, doing the things I love to do: radio.
Are you doing things that you are passionate about? If not, why not? And if you are, what changes have you had to make in order to do them? Please reply; I'd love to read your comments. As always you can reach me privately by connecting at http://contact.charlieprofit.com.

Sometimes it's because you want to come back to it and read it later, other times it's because it's just something you want to save; maybe something profound was posted, or something posted was just plain funny! Guess what? I just came across an app that does that! It's called Memonic and can be found at http://www.memonic.com. They have a free version that allows you to save up to 100 items, and then they have an unlimited premium version for $28 through Jan. 31st, then it goes back to regular price of $49 ($US).

What's really cool, is that they have 3 levels of privacy: private, friends (on Memonic) and public. So you can share your favorite "likes" with anyone. Here is my public page:http://www.memonic.com/user/charlieprofit. (not much there yet, as I just started using Memonic) Your likes will stay there "forever" or until you delete it, or your friend deletes their post.

Memonic is cool for other things too. If you are familiar with Evernote.com, you will appreciate the primary function of Memonic. You can clip/capture webpages or parts of them and save them, or just save links as well. You can compose items or even email your content in to save forever. For example, you can take vacation photos and send them in to your Memonic account via email and share them with friends, or not. Memonic also has an address book. So you can keep your contacts handy as well. Once you have uploaded an item, you can group them together with "sets" and then you can add collaborators to the sets using "groups". You can define within the sets your privacy level too.

All in all, I think Memonic is ahead of the game with this neat browser add-on that allows you to save specific posts from Facebook, and you can clip items you like from websites, such as Tweets from Twitter too. Are you happy? Ask yourself and think on it deeply. It's easy for us to say we are happy. But happiness, like any emotion, is not to be taken lightly. Why are or why aren't you happy right now, in this moment? Are you choosing to focus on sorrow and pain because you think that's what the situation calls for? What can you do to be happy if you aren't but want to be?
We associate happiness with good things happening TO us: getting a promotion at work; having a great relationship with someone; finding something we want to buy is on sale right when we are ready to buy it; a sunny day or a snowy day depending on your outdoor activities; hearing your favorite tune on the radio; the list goes on. And if something "good" isn't happening TO us in the moment, sometimes we just don't have that euphoric feeling, then we might grumble about trivial matters and live miserably for that moment. Is this how we should be defining the one emotion that can lift and carry us through our toughest times, by allowing situations to dictate our happiness?
What if you learned you can control your happiness, just as you can control your grief, your anger, your apathy, your desire, your love and any other emotion you experience? Would that make difference in your life? Well, if you haven't already figured that out for yourself, let me tell you that you can although it may not always be easy, especially when you are out of practice.
Many people believe they can only react, in a defensive manner to life's situations. That simply is not true. We can always be proactive with our emotions. But like all successful attributes it may require a little focus and effort from us. The question then becomes: how serious are you about being happy?
You can always wait for something good to happen to replace something less desirable from life that happened to you. Time may heal all wounds, but isn't life already too short to feed on the pain and sorrow that certain circumstances will bring? I'm not suggesting to never have a good cry, or not go run off some steam from a challenging moment. But I do believe that having Free Will carries the responsibility to limit how long we entertain those emotions that do not enforce the feeling of happiness. We need to tap into the energy that happiness brings and focus on creating an environment in our lives where happiness dominates the emotional roller coaster. I personally believe the Power of God, that is Christ, is the divine Source for that energy. With Christ all things are possible.
In order to be happy all we really have to do is change our mind. In some situations this may be easier than in others but when our mind has lost the focus of being in a happy state what we need to do is think and believe "I am happy". However if you are in a difficult situation and have invested time and energy into a less fulfilling emotion it may require more effort than that. You may need to think about and focus on something that does make you happy: your children; that special person in your life; sunshine; a fond memory of another happy moment in your life; the examples are endless. The Bible provides many verses about being joyful too and being able to recall them by heart can be uplifting. But one thing is certain, being happy is a choice.
If you have tips on how you stay happy, please share them by commenting.

I've been blogging for several years and I think occasionally I have offered product opinion. I've made a decision to become more focused with my blogging. That doesn't necessarily mean a more consistent posting schedule. It does mean I am going to blog more about things I like. So while this is not really an inaugural post for a new blog, it is a new direction. I will continue to post random thoughts but you will be able to get more out of reading here now than in the past. So let's move on. This post is supposed to be a scotch whiskey review.
I am a relative new comer to the world of scotch, whiskey and bourbon, at least from a real "enjoyment of the flavor" point of view. I have been trying different brands and flavors and have found the variety is as complex as finding the right cigar. If you have been following me for any period of time, you know I also enjoy cigars. So this began as a quest to find the perfect beverage to sip while puffing on a premium stogie.
If you are a connoisseur, you will have to forgive me if I don't use proper terminology. With your help, in the comments or via email, I hope to improve my knowledge of the subject.
I have found that I generally like mine on the rocks. This seems to soften the taste on the palette just a little. I don't know what the most enriching way to enjoy a good scotch whiskey is but this is what is working for me.
My review of the scotch whiskey No. 5 brand is short. Not because there is little to say, but more so that I am not sure how to describe what I have tasted as an aficionado would do so that you can understand and make a decision to try or not try this brand. Let me simply say that I found the drink to be very smooth, silky almost. The flavor was vibrant with sweet overtones an no harsh or bitter aftertaste. The color of the scotch whiskey is very appealing with a gold glimmer throughout. I find the aesthetic appearance of the bottle is simple and elegant as can be seen in the photo. Price range: average. I give the No. 5 Classic Black Scotch Whiskey five out of five.
If you enjoyed this review or have something to add please let me know in the comments.

As I watch the Election Coverage tonight I find myself getting excited at the prospect that Americans will correct their mistake of giving Democrats control of the Government. I think Americans now see the damage that "hope and change" has wrought on our great Country. With high unemployment unanswered and the Democratically controlled Congress passing unpopular legislation such as Obamacare in the dark of the night, Americans will be heard today. I won't celebrate early, but am looking forward to enjoying a good cigar I brought back from one of my favorite stogie bars, Hatuey Cigars, in Reno.

There is now "some" evidence that shows there is a gene, but also that social circumstances play a factor with the gene in how Liberal a person may be. But is this just a way for Liberals to excuse themselves? Can't you hear it now: "I can't help it I was born this way". And what of a "Conservative Gene"? [sarcasm on] Would this open a Pandora's Box for Obamacare to require "treatment" for those discovered to have a Conservative Gene? [sarcasm off] Yes, my last comment was sarcastic, but stranger things have been known to happen. Read on and let me know what you think:

Amplify’d from ucsdnews.ucsd.edu

Researchers Find a 'Liberal Gene'

Liberals may owe their political outlook partly to their genetic make-up, according to new research from the University of California, San Diego, and Harvard University. Ideology is affected not just by social factors, but also by a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4. The study’s authors say this is the first research to identify a specific gene that predisposes people to certain political views.

Appearing in the latest edition of The Journal of Politics published by Cambridge University Press, the research focused on 2,000 subjects from The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. By matching genetic information with maps of the subjects’ social networks, the researchers were able to show that people with a specific variant of the DRD4 gene were more likely to be liberal as adults, but only if they had an active social life in adolescence.

Previous research has identified a connection between a variant of this gene and novelty-seeking behavior, and this behavior has previously been associated with personality traits related to political liberalism. Read more at ucsdnews.ucsd.edu

See this Amp at http://amplify.com/u/e61s

This gives a whole new meaning to "Dirty Harry".

Amplify’d from www.lasvegassun.com

Angle campaign attorney: Reid “intends to steal this election if he can’t win it outright”

Two days ago, the Democratic Secretary of State announced that voters can be provided "free food" at "voter turnout events." Harry Reid has been offering free food and, according to other reports, some Democratic allies such as teachers' unions are offering gift cards in return for a vote for Reid.

Before we were even able to document the reported infractions to report to the authorities, the Democrat Secretary of State slammed the door shut on preventing this behavior and issued a public statement permitting these ACORN-style tactics. THESE are the kinds of shenanigans that can turn this race.

What Harry Reid is doing is clearly illegal. Nevada law (NRS 293.700) provides that, “A person who bribes, offers to bribe, or use and other corrupt means, directly or indirectly, to influence any elector in giving his or her vote or to deter the elector from giving it is guilty of a category D felony and shall be punished as provided in NRS 193.130.”

We've seen evidence of this sort of voter 'enticement' by groups such as ACORN - where, in 2008, two ACORN workers in Milwaukee were accused of offering pre-paid gasoline cards or restaurant gift cards to people in exchange for registration.

John Fund wrote in his book Stealing Elections: How Voter Fraud Threatens Our Democracy, cited reports from the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader (South Dakota) and the election in 2004, where certain residents were quoted saying that "people on the streets were saying you go vote, they would give you gas money, $10, maybe a pack of cigarettes..."

Now, this week in Las Vegas, at our election hotline, we received reports that some teachers' union representatives were offering Starbucks cards to people to get them to vote for Harry Reid. It is even more disturbing and may be possible that they are using their influence and authority as educators to entice students on behalf of Reid.

The right to vote is a precious one - and it carries with it somber responsibilities. The Democrats' willingness to allow voters to be enticed with a promise of any thing of value is a debasement of the process- and it may just destroy everything we've worked for.
Read more at www.lasvegassun.com

See this Amp at http://amplify.com/u/e2lo
