Money and household tools

For my business credit card, I use Chase. I also have an accountant for taxes because some parts of business are better handled by someone who knows that area well. For my kids, our family uses Greenlight for their cards. It helps them learn how to use money while still giving us some structure and oversight.

Tools that save time at home

I use Walmart Plus to have food delivered to the house. Grocery shopping takes time and energy, and delivery helps reduce one more task.

I also use robot vacuums and a robot lawnmower. These tools help because they keep things moving in the background without me having to do every small task myself. We also have someone help clean the house once a month, which makes the house feel more manageable.

Organization systems that work for me

I like systems where I can see what I have. If something is hidden away too well, I may forget it exists. So I leave some things out where I can see them and use them.

When I store things, I prefer clear containers. That way I can see what is inside without opening every box. I try to take care of the things I own, use what I have, and get rid of what I do not need. I try to buy things that make my life simpler, especially if I only have to pay for them one time. I usually prefer one-time purchases over subscription services.

There are exceptions. Some subscriptions are worth it if they save enough time, reduce stress, or help the business. But I try to be thoughtful before adding another monthly payment.

I created a job where if I have a day without much energy, it is okay. I can slow down, take care of myself, and work the next day. That flexibility is one of the most productive systems I have.

I also think of health and relationships as productivity tools. If I do not take care of my body, my energy, and the people around me, then no app or system is going to work well.

That includes physical therapy at times.

Yes, I travel with children. Actually, most of my travel now includes my children because we do not have a great childcare system set up at home. I rarely travel without them. Sometimes my husband or I will get away separately, but most of the time, if we are going somewhere, the girls are coming too.That is why cruises are so helpful for us. It really helps when someone makes the bed, does the cooking, dishes, creates actives and we just get to enjoy each other. I bought my first daughter on a cruise at 10 months to Bermuda when now many people traveled with small children on cruises. It sure is different now, almost 15 years later. My other daughter went to Punta Cana at 8 months on an airplane. I tried to be as calm as possible with her on the plane and I think it worked.

I wrote 50 Things to Know About Traveling with a Baby, yes that is my little one on the cover because I learned very quickly that traveling with a baby takes a lot of organization. Before one of our cruises, I had to schedule and plan everything I was bringing because you really cannot count on being able to buy what you need for a baby once you are on a cruise ship. If you do, it is very expensive. You need the diapers, the food, the medicine, the clothes, the stroller, the baby carrier, and all the little things that make the day go smoother. That book came from real life, not just an idea.

I did not breastfeed my first child, but I breastfed my second child for an entire year while still taking multiple trips out of the country. That also took planning. Feeding a baby while traveling is not always easy, but it is possible when you think ahead and understand what your child needs. Traveling with kids has taught me that you can still go places, but you have to prepare differently. That can take lots of thought when you have a child around, and are trying to get other things done. That is why when I create a system, I want to share it with others.

Now we mostly travel on cruises, but we also take day trips and travel to sporting events. My older daughter does very well in swimming, so we travel for meets, including states. Those trips are not always relaxing vacations, but they are still travel. They are still experiences. They are still memories.

Before I had kids, I traveled often as a software trainer. I saw many places and learned how special travel can be as well as talking to locals and food around the world. I have to stay calm enough to be there for my family and still enjoy the trip myself. If I get overwhelmed, overtired, or do not take care of my body, travel becomes harder for everyone. That is why I created the Tourist Pivot Plan.

So yes, I travel with children. My kids have probably been on more cruises than most adults. When you take two family cruises a year, every year, it adds up. It takes planning, snacks, flexibility, breaks, and realistic expectations. Also, much more initial packing and planning. The Pivot Plan is great for adults and kids. But it is worth it. I get to see the world again through their eyes, and sometimes they help me notice the most beautiful things I would have walked right past.

I recently was asked this question from the internet. I don’t really balance family and business. I think balance sounds like everything gets the same amount of time and attention every day, and that is not how real life works for me. Some days my family needs more. Some days my health needs more. Some days the business gets more of my energy. Instead of trying to make everything equal, I have tried to build a business and a home life that are flexible enough to move with my real life.

One of the best decisions I made was creating work that does not depend on constant meetings. I do not like having my day filled with scheduled calls, and honestly, family life changes too much for that. Kids get sick. Activities change. Someone needs picked up. Someone needs help. I need to take care of myself too. So I mostly use email, messages, and one-on-one communication. That lets me think, respond when I can, and keep the work moving without having to stop everything for a meeting. Also, my husband is the one with the health insurance so we decided from the beginning that I would pick up these little things that his job is not flexible enough to do.

The people I work with are all around the world, and I try to respect that they have families, schedules, time zones, and real lives too. I do not expect everyone to work the same way at the same time. We communicate through messages, email, and sometimes private Facebook groups where we can share ideas and updates. It feels more like a team than a traditional office. Believe me, sometimes people get upset they I don't communicate online, but that is not my prefered method.

I also use technology and systems as much as I can. Walmart brings a lot of the food we make, and sometimes I buy more prepackaged food even though it costs more, because it saves time and energy. I have robot vacuums for each floor of my house on timers, an automatic pool vacuum, an automatic lawnmower, and even an automatic window washer. The lights in our house turn on and off automatically. Our garage door can shut automatically too. These things may sound small, but they add up. Every task that technology can help with gives me back a little more time and energy.

I also believe in getting help where it matters. I have people help clean the bathrooms and kitchen once a month because those are jobs that take energy I might need for something else. I would rather use that time to rest, take care of my family, or work on something creative than spend every free moment cleaning. That does not mean the house is perfect. It means I have accepted that I do not have to do everything myself.

I am lucky that I created a business that allows this. I can work from home, help my daughters, take care of my health, support my husband, and still keep creating books and ideas that help other people. It is not always neat. It is not always balanced. But it works because the business and the house were built around flexibility, systems, and support.

Family changes all the time. Children grow. Their needs change. Health changes. Activities change. What worked one year might not work the next. So I try to build systems that can change with us. That is really how I manage family and business. I do not try to balance them perfectly. I create space for both, and when I have to choose, my health and my family come first.

I built a large nonfiction catalog one book at a time.

That sounds simple, but that is really how it happened. I started with topics I knew, things I had experienced, and ideas I thought could help other people. My first book came from a blog post. I had written about things I wished I knew before having a baby, and then I realized that information could become something larger. The blog post became viral and then I posted as the first book, 50 Things to Know before having a baby.

At the same time, I left my job as an instructional designer at Penn State to spend more time with my kids when the first one was born. I created a blog and earned affiliate income. This was not enough to make a living. I created 50 of my own online classes that were eventually taken down because the sounds was not clear enough. I started a YouTube channel but I put something on there I was not allowed and I would not get paid anymore. I tried to sell baby clothes online. What I am trying to say here is I tried many different things. While some failed, I took the pieces of those project, and learned from them to create the publishing company that I have today.

Over time, I started thinking in series instead of just single books. That was an important shift. A single book can sell, but a series gives readers a reason to come back. It also helps organize your ideas. For me, series like 50 Things to Know, Greater Than a Tourist, Eat Like a Local, and Travel Like a Local gave me a clear structure for creating more books without starting from zero every time.

A group of my children's learning books were created from finding images that I paid for online, and them making books from the amazing illustrations that illustrators created to help kids learn.

Non-fiction is something that comes natural to me. I believe this is from my higher education background. Making things easier for others to learn. I also have created systems to teach authors, narrators, and the people I work with to continue publishing weekly.

How do you make money with nonfiction books on Amazon?

You make money with nonfiction books on Amazon by creating books people are already searching for and making sure those books are clear, useful, and easy to find. I believe the series of books really helps.

The money can come from different formats too. You may have an ebook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook, or Kindle Unlimited pages read. Some books may sell slowly but steadily. Other books may sell better during certain seasons. A catalog helps because not every book has to do everything. One book might bring in a few dollars a month. A group of books can become something more meaningful over time.

My children's books do make the least money. But I enjoyed making them and reading them to kids. I love seeing the review of kids still enjoying them. Also, it reminds me of a time when my kids were smaller and what that was like as a parent.

My Amazon KDP tip is to finish the book and get it out there. You can improve later, but you cannot learn from a book that stays on your computer. Just put it out there. That gives me the motivation to keep editing.

A system lets you repeat what works. That might include a book outline template, a writer instruction sheet, a cover design process, a keyword research checklist, an editing checklist, and a launch plan. Every time you create a system, you make the next book easier.

Series also help with scaling. When books follow a similar structure, you can create more without reinventing every step. Readers also know what to expect, which helps build trust.

You also need to know what to let go of. Not every task needs to be done by you forever. Editing, formatting, research, covers, and marketing pieces can be delegated when the process is clear enough.

The hard part is going back to see what is working and what isn't and moving forward again.

Self-publishing has taught me that small steps can turn into something much larger. One blog post became a book. One book became a series. One series became a publishing company. Now we have over 2,000 books. You do not need to know every step before you begin. You just need to start, learn, adjust, and keep going.

My favorite cruise destinations are not always the farthest away or the most expensive. For this season of my life, the best cruise destinations are the ones I do not have to fly to reach.

I love cruising because it is one of the easiest ways to truly relax while still seeing new places. You unpack your clothes once, settle into your cabin, and then wake up in a different location. You get to enjoy the ship, eat meals without planning every detail, and see amazing destinations without feeling like you have to pack and move every few days. For me, that is one of the best parts of cruising. It gives me the feeling of adventure without making the whole trip exhausting.

I have been lucky enough to cruise in Hawaii and Europe, and those trips were amazing. I loved seeing those places from the water and waking up somewhere new. But getting there and back was exhausting. The flights, the time change, the long travel days, and the recovery afterward were a lot. Right now, with my husband and kids, that kind of trip does not always fit into our lives. We need vacations that give us memories without completely wearing us out.

That is why I often recommend choosing the cruise port that is closest to where you live and fits your budget. The best cruise may not be the most dramatic one. It may be the one you can actually take more than once. If you can drive to the port, get on the ship, relax for a week, and come home without spending too much money or losing extra days to travel, that can be a beautiful thing.

For me, that has often meant cruising to Nassau and private islands in the Bahamas and Caribbean. I have probably been to Nassau and cruise line private island destinations the most because they are some of the most affordable and accessible options from where I live. At first, someone might think going back to the same place would get boring, but I have found the opposite to be true. When you return to a place more than once, you start to understand it differently. You learn what you like, what to avoid, where to slow down, and how to enjoy the day without pressure.

That is also why I care so much about talking to locals and learning from people who actually live in a place. I do not want to only see the tourist traps. I want to understand the culture, the food, the daily life, and the small details that make a destination feel real. When I travel, I want to bring something back with me that is more than a souvenir. I want to bring back a new way of seeing things, a new food to try at home, a slower pace, a different idea, or a memory that changes how I live my everyday life.

I like to talk to the people on the ship too. The passengers and the crew. You get to be around such a diverse group of people without traveling there. I have recently felt bad asking where people are from since of security recently. I don't want anyone to be sad or put into harms way because of my curiosity and love to travel and learning.

So if someone asks me what my favorite cruise destination is, my honest answer is this: my favorite cruise destination is the one I can actually enjoy without making my life harder when I get home. Sometimes that is Nassau. Sometimes it is a private island. Sometimes it is a port I have already visited before, but this time I see it in a new way. The best cruise destination is the one that lets you relax, explore, spend time with the people you love, and come home feeling like the trip was worth it.

What inspired Lisa Rusczyk to create travel books?

Lisa Rusczyk was inspired to create travel books after realizing that local people often give the most meaningful travel advice. I Thought Cruise Port Days Would Be Easy. They’re Not.

I thought cruise port days would be easy.

You wake up, grab breakfast, get off the ship, go do something fun, and come back. That’s what it looks like when you’re planning your cruise from your couch. You see the port time, you Google “best things to do,” maybe pick a beach or an excursion, and it all feels simple.

That’s not how it actually plays out.

The first time you step off the ship, you realize pretty quickly that you’re not the only one with that plan. Thousands of people are getting off at the same time. It’s hot right away. The walk is longer than it looked. That is why planning and packing before hand it helpful. Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Then things start stacking up. Taxi lines are longer than expected. The beach you picked looks more crowded in person. Like that time we wanted to go to Airport Beach, and when we got there it was so busy, we went to the next beach up and it was beautiful. Something that was supposed to take ten minutes turns into thirty. You check the time and realize you’re already behind whatever plan you made.

And the part no one really talks about is your energy.You needed this vacation. You’ve been busy, tired, and looking forward to doing nothing. Then suddenly you’re in the sun, walking more than you planned, trying to “make the most” of a place you only have a few hours to see. What sounded fun in your room doesn’t always feel the same once you’re standing there.

I’ve picked the wrong beach. I’ve waited too long to get off the ship. I’ve tried to fit too much into one day and ended up enjoying none of it. I’ve also had great port days, and they didn’t happen because everything went perfectly. They happened because I adjusted. That’s why I created what I call the Tourist Pivot Plan.

Instead of planning one “perfect” plan, I plan two. A Plan A, which is what I want to do if everything lines up, and a Plan B, which is simpler, closer, or easier if something feels off. Then I set a time to check in with myself and decide which one actually makes sense once I’m there.

You stop trying to force a day that isn’t working. You stop wasting time deciding in the moment. You already know your options. You just switch. It sounds simple, but it took me a lot of trial and error to get there. Cruise ports look easy, but they are one of the hardest parts of a trip to get right because your time is so limited.

That’s why I turned it into a system and eventually into a book.

If you’ve ever gotten back on the ship and felt like your port day didn’t go the way you thought it would, you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re just missing a backup plan.

Cruise port days can feel harder than expected, especially when you only have a few hours to decide what to do. After being on many cruises, I started using a simple system called the Tourist Pivot Plan to plan my port days in places like Nassau, Cozumel, and Port Canaveral.

I’ve been on enough cruises at this point to know that port days don’t usually go the way you think they will. We need a vacation so much, that we don't have that much energy when we get to the ports. After enough port days my husband and I came up with a plan that I want to teach others that I called the "Tourist Pivot Plan". A system to decide what to do in each port and a back up plan if you don't have enough energy, enough sunburn, or if something crazy happens that you can't control.

Also, look how smart I am above wearing sun tan lotion, a hat and glasses in Bermuda at Horseshoe bay. I learned a few lessons before I started doing that on my vacations.

It’s just a way to decide what you’re going to do in port before you get off the ship, and what you’re going to do if that plan no longer makes sense. Sometimes that means you don’t have the energy you thought you would. Sometimes it’s the heat. Sometimes it’s crowds or something you didn’t expect. Instead of standing there trying to figure it out, you already know your next step.

Right now, I’ve created three books in the Tourist Pivot Plan series. Each one walks you through how to plan your port day in a simple, realistic way so you’re not making decisions under pressure once you arrive.

The first is Greater Than a Tourist: Nassau Cruise Port Tourist Pivot Plan, where I break down one of the busiest cruise ports and how to handle crowds, transportation, and short time windows.

The second is Greater Than a Tourist: Cozumel Cruise Port Tourist Pivot Plan, which focuses more on transportation decisions, beach clubs, and how quickly plans can change once you leave the port.

The third is Greater Than a Tourist: Port Canaveral Cruise Port Tourist Pivot Plan, where the biggest challenge is distance and deciding whether to stay near the port or go farther out to places like Kennedy Space Center.

Each one follows the same idea. Plan your day before you arrive, give yourself a backup, and set a clear point where you decide what actually makes sense once you’re there. But I also give you tips based on new travelers, adventure seekers and kids with families.

You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need one that still works when something changes.

How 2025 Feels Compared to the Baby Years

When I wrote 50 Things to Know Before Having a Baby, my world was centered on sleep schedules, what to put in the diaper bags, and learning the importance of my five senses. I did not expect that post to become the most visited page on this blog. The fact that it still brings readers here tells me something important. The desire for simple, clear guidance never goes away. That is why I created the 50 things to know book series, then my travel guide book series, Greater than a Tourist, Travel Like a Local, and Eat Like a Local. I was looking for simple tips and I want to give them to others.

In 2025 my daughters are fourteen and ten. Our routines look nothing like they did during those early days. I see my sister going though it and I wish I knew better ways to help them.

The shift this year has been significant. But what has stayed the same is letting them try new things, seeing them fail, and then bing super proud as they learn new skills. I spend more time driving, planning, and adjusting. Things I have not really enjoyed but I am growing as a person as I learn these new skills. I also get to become friends with their parents friends and their friends. It has been a joy to see them grow up. One of the biggest joys of my life!

If you are wondering what I am doing now, well I am still creating books. I love working with authors around the world. Also audiobooks too. I have not published any books that I wrote recently, but I have published 80 books under CZYK Publishing this year. Since I have been doing this for 14 years now, I think I get a little better at it each year.

Desmond Hotel Malvern, a DoubleTree by Hilton Review

This is an honest review of the Desmond Hotel Malvern, a DoubleTree by Hilton, where my husband and I had the pleasure of staying for two nights. We were in town for a wedding, and our experience at the hotel was exceptional from start to finish.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the staff, who made us feel welcome and at ease. They had cookies and we are gluten free, so they gave us gluten free cookies! The check-in process was smooth and efficient, which was much appreciated after a long day of travel. The hotel's ambiance was updated but has nice touches such as wooden sliding doors and some older pieces of furniture.

Our room was spacious, impeccably clean, and well-appointed with all the amenities we needed to make our stay comfortable. The bed was particularly with down pillows and comforter. The bathroom was updated. It had a rain shower head with not the best water pressure.

They had free coffee in the morning in the lobby. Also a coffee maker in the room and refrigerator. The air conditioning was loud at night.

We loved how they used different rooms in the hotel for each event. Overall, our experience at the Desmond Hotel Malvern was outstanding. The combination of comfortable accommodations, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere made our stay truly memorable. We would definitely choose to stay here again and highly recommend it to others looking for a top-notch hotel experience.

I really loved the Fizz Ease for a slick back look that doesn't look too greasy. I also like that it didn't have much of a smell! What also helped was this brush. It not only was easy to brush my pony tail, it also have some smaller bristles to help make all the air go in the same direction.

The cuff was heavy on my head, and I just could not get the wave pony tail to sit right on my head. I personally don't like heavy things on there.

As someone who enjoys staying active, I’ve learned the hard way that pushing myself too hard without adequate rest leads to burnout and injury. Whether it's a Zumba class, a morning jog, or a session at the gym, our bodies need time to repair and rebuild muscles. Scheduling rest days allows our bodies to heal and prevents overuse injuries. We got to go to Kennedy Space center for the first time. We went on an excursion from our MSC cruise ship. Here are 10 tips for your first trip to Kennedy Space Center in Florida:

1. Plan Ahead: Check the Kennedy Space Center website for opening hours, and special events. The dates did change for the week that we were there.
2. Tickets: Purchase tickets online in advance to save time and avoid long lines. We bought them through the cruise line since it included transportation and we could leave quickly from the cruise ship.
3. Arrive Early: Plan to arrive early to make the most of your day and avoid crowds.
4. Visitor Complex: Start your visit at the visitor complex to explore the exhibits, attractions, and shows.
5. Bus Tour: Take the bus tour to see historic launch sites and the Apollo/Saturn V Center. You have to allot a certain amount of time for this. We did not have the time on our visit from the cruise ship but we could have if we didn't do much at the visitor center.
6. Astronaut Encounter: Check the schedule for astronaut encounters or other special presentations. We did not get to see this but we got to see them signing autographs.
7. Space Shuttle Atlantis: Don't miss the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit, featuring the actual shuttle and interactive displays.
8. Weather: Be prepared for Florida's weather with sunscreen, hats, and umbrellas.
9. Interactive Exhibits: Explore the interactive exhibits, such as the Mars Rover and Shuttle Launch Experience.

Hey there swim parents. This year my daughter made Districts for the first time for winter swim. This experience was new to us and her. We both thought it was worth it in the end but here are some tips to your days easier. Are you gearing up for your first-ever swim meet at the York Swim Meet Districts in York, Pennsylvania? My daughter qualified for events for all three days. Yours may too. Each day was slightly different with different directions. We had to book our tickets early online for each day.

1. Pack the Essentials: Make sure to pack swim gear (caps, goggles, swimsuits), towels, snacks, water, chairs, and any necessary medications. We stayed at a hotel that was close to the event that our team recommended. Then the kids could get some extra together fun time.

2. Arrive Early: Plan to arrive at the meet venue at least 30 minutes before warm-ups begin. This will give you enough time to find parking, locate the pool, and get settled in.

3. Familiarize Yourself with the Schedule: Review the meet schedule in advance and make note of your child's events. This will help you plan your day and ensure you don't miss any of their races. They may run slightly early or late but it was available to watch online so we sent the link to our family an the times before it started.

4. Stay Organized: Keep track of your child's race times, heats, and lanes by writing them down or using a meet management app. This will help you stay organized and ensure you don't miss any of their races.

5. Respect other Parents: Remember that they are trying to watch their kids swim too. When you move around be mindful of them watching and recording.

6. Stay Hydrated and Fueled: Pack plenty of water and healthy snacks to keep you and your child energized throughout the day. There is a great snack stand but they don't have everything. They also earn money when you buy snacks from them.

10. Have Fun: Most importantly, remember to have fun. Swim meets are a great opportunity to cheer on your child, bond with other swim parents, and celebrate the sport of swimming.

A Mom's Guide to Low FODMAP Shopping at Wegmans in State College, PA

Over the past few years, I have been experiencing pain in my lower abdomen. We have decided some of the issues could be from bloating. I was asked to try the Low Fodmap diet. This diet can make certain people feel better. Please do your own research if you wan to know what the diet is.

This is not a lose weight diet. It is a way to restrict your eating so you can decide which foods make your body feel uncomfortable.

I recently went to Wegmans in State College PA to look for some items I can not find in other places. One thing they have their a Foddy foods. These are foods that are certified as low fodmap by Monash University.

Here are some shopping tips:

Plan Ahead:
Before heading to Wegmans, make a list of low FODMAP foods you need. This will help you stay focused and avoid impulse purchases. You can use their website.
Know Your Labels:
Familiarize yourself with the ingredients commonly found in high FODMAP foods. Look for products labeled "low FODMAP" or check the ingredients list for FODMAP-friendly options. This is basically looking at each ingredient. If they have "natural flavors" this is something you should be concerned about if you don't know what it is.
Pick Up Staples:
These are simple low Fodmap items you could find at any grocery store such as carrots, blueberries, strawberries, brown rice and eggs.

I posted this in a business class I am taking, and I thought I would share it here too.

Since this is an business class I would like to share all of my business. Ok that sounded funny. What I wanted to say was, I have been creating a company for over 12 years. I stayed at home with my kids while they grew up and slowly created a business. My main business now is publishing, But over the years I have tried online classes, selling items, and vlogging.

Things have changed. They took down my online classes because the quality was not good enough. I had 50 of them. They took down my blog because I violated their terms of services (still not sure what I did). I had a monetized YouTube channel but they changed the rules for that.

But I keep going and trying new things. Right now all of my books are on Amazon. If I violate their terms of service they could take it down at any time. I try not to do this but you never know. This is why I would like to have our books in more places.

I really like working with people around the world to create these books and I like creating products that I can sell.

When I was little my Mom did crafts shows. She did really well at them. I helped her every weekend and I think this gave me a better knowledge of the business world from real life experience. I now bring this to an online world.

Allergy Shots - Tips and Tricks

I have had allergies all of my life. I finally went to a allergist. They did a skin prick test and identified what I as allergic to. Dust, tress, grasses, and dogs. I always thought I was allergic to cat my entire life, but no, it is dogs. At the time when I found out we just got a new puppy.

After adding nasal sprays, medicine, and eye drops, I decided to start allergy shots. These are regular injections of the things I am allergic to desensitize my immune system. I may have to do the shots for years but I am excited for the outcome.

I go to the Dr. two times a week and get a shot in each arm. I then have to wait 30 minutes to make sure I don't have a large reaction. So far I have not. Here are some bits if you are getting allergy shots. Remember I am just a patient.

Stay Consistent:
Attend all scheduled allergy shot appointments and follow the recommended injection schedule without missing doses. Consistency is key to achieving the desired therapeutic effects.
Communicate with Your Allergist:
If you experience any unusual or severe reactions after receiving allergy shots, inform your allergist immediately. They can adjust your treatment plan accordingly or provide additional guidance to manage your symptoms.
Take your Medicine:
They always ask me if I took my medicine before my shots.
Be Patient:
Allergy shots typically require time to achieve noticeable improvements in symptoms. It may take several months to a year before you start experiencing significant relief. Stay patient and committed to the treatment process.
Wear a shirt you can take off easily:
I get the shots in the back of my arm. Sometime sit is cold so I make sure I can take off my long sleeve shirt easily.

Drinking plenty of water before and after allergy shots can help minimize side effects and promote overall well-being.

Stroll Through Old San Juan: The colorful streets of Old San Juan are a visual treat. Stroll through and let your kids soak in the vibrant atmosphere. I love the brink streets. Sidewalks are tight so if you have a stroller bring a small one.
Sunscreen is Essential: San Juan's sun can be intense. Ensure your family is protected with sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. We tried to stay in the shade of the building on a hot day.
Learn Basic Spanish Phrases: While many locals speak English, learning a few basic Spanish phrases can enhance your family's interaction with the locals. We interacted at some t shirt shops. While you don’t need to know Spanish, it was fun to try!

Pack Snorkeling Gear: The crystal-clear waters are perfect for a family snorkeling adventure. Don't forget the gear! We only bring a snorkel and goggles. I recommend a float and water shoes for this free beach right off the ship. There is great snorkeling by the rocks off the beach but it is very rocky to get there. I recommend very small children stay more to the pool so no one gets hurt.
Sun Protection is Key: Pack sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses to shield your family from the Caribbean sun.
Embrace the Cultural Experience: People will ask you for hair braiding. I do not do this incase my kids get lice. They will also try to sell you more things down the beach. That is fine, but there are free chair if you can get them before other cruise passengers.
Caribbean Souvenirs: Encourage your kids to pick out souvenirs at the local shops, fostering a connection to the island. There are options at this cruise port.
Plan Your Beach Day: Whether it's snorkeling, building sandcastles, or simply lounging, plan a beach day that suits your family's preferences.
Bring a Portable Shade: Consider a pop-up tent or umbrella for portable shade on the beach. There are some trees that might be helpful.
Connect with Other Families: The cruise port is an excellent place to connect with other families for joint adventures. Kids can usually find kids their age to play with.
Water Activities for All Ages: From paddleboarding to glass-bottom boat rides, there are water activities suitable for every age group. You need to pay for these further down the beach. We did not decide to do this.
Mind the Cruise Schedule: Be aware of the ship's departure time and plan your day accordingly to avoid any last-minute rushes. Make sure you are on ship time. You can see this in the cruise app.

Ahoy, fellow cruisers. Amber cove is a great cruise port where you can decide not to spend anything, spend a little or a lot! We spend a little and I will share with you what we did. Join me as I spill the beans on the 10 things every parent should know when venturing to The Cruise Port of Amber Cove with their kiddos for the first time. Let's dive in!

10 Tips for Going to The Cruise Port of Amber Cove with Kids:

Choose Kid-Friendly Excursions: At the cruise port there is a free pool. You can also pay $6 for slides (11/23 Prices). You can also zipline for $26. You need to be a certain weight to do this. I also saw two children going together to increase the weight but I am not sure how that works. There is a small yellow building by the boat where you pay.
Splash Around at the Pool: Amber Cove boasts a fantastic pool area. Bring swim gear for a refreshing dip and hours of family fun. Remember this part is free but some sections have loud music. There are free bathrooms around. The music had the curse words taken out. The pool does go in a circle.
Visit the Play Area: Let your kids burn off some energy at the dedicated play area. It's a perfect pitstop for active little ones. There is a small grass section and free hammock if you can get there first.
Try Food: In the Amber cove cruise area they had inexpensive food and a Nathans hotdogs if you like that.
Capture the Scenic Views: The picturesque surroundings of Amber Cove provide the ideal backdrop for family photos. Don't forget your camera! You will need to walk up yourself but it is free and a the views are beautiful.
Connect with Wildlife: If your kids love animals, consider excursions that allow them to interact with local wildlife. We saw lots of butterflies and dragonflies in November 2023.
Stay Hydrated: Caribbean sun can be intense. Pack water bottles to keep your family hydrated throughout the day. Bring your own water bottles.
Prepare for Shopping: The port features a variety of shops. Set a budget for souvenirs and involve your kids in picking out keepsakes. We went back on the ship and changed and then went shopping when we were done after the water activities and the zipplining.
Coordinate with Other Families: Cruising is more fun with company. Connect with other families on the cruise and plan activities together. Our daughter loved doing on the waterslides with another child her age.
Bring Portable Shade: There place only had shade by the building so that is where we sat.

As a seasoned family cruises, I've curated this list to ensure your Carnival Venencia experience is more fun and less work. We had a great time on our cruise and I hope you do too.

Plan Your Day Strategically: Scope out the carnival map and schedule in advance. Knowing where the kid-friendly attractions are located can save you precious time and energy.
Pack the Essentials: Sunscreen, snacks, and a change of clothes – be prepared for anything. Trust me, a well-packed bag is a parent's secret weapon.
Early Bird Gets the Fun: Arrive early to beat the crowds and enjoy popular rides with minimal wait times.
Height Matters: Check the height requirements for rides before your kiddos get their hearts set on them. The ropes course requires a certain height and so does the waterslides.
Embrace the Family Zones: There is the work out area, the basketball court (where they play more than basketball), and kids club areas.
Budget Wisely: Carnival goodies can add up. Set a spending limit for the arcade, treats, and souvenirs to avoid any post-carnival budget blues. There is a candy shop on board but we brought some of our own candy from home.
Stay Hydrated: With all the excitement, it's easy to forget the basics. Keep water bottles handy to ensure everyone stays refreshed. You can bring your own water bottle.
Embrace the Theme: Encourage the kiddos to dress up in theme-appropriate attire. It adds an extra layer of fun and makes for fantastic photos. Or don't dress the themes at all. Masks seem to be a thing on this cruise.
Know the Showtimes: Check the schedule for parades, performances, and shows. Timing your day around these events can add an extra layer of entertainment.
Take Breaks: Carnivals can be overwhelming, so don't hesitate to take short breaks. Find a shady spot to recharge and regroup.

I hope these tips help you get started on your first cruise. Please make sure your kids do not get in the way of walkers or wheelchairs. This includes on the elevators. If you want to get your kids tired and they can do it, let them go up the stair instead of on the elevators. Or teach them how to ride the elevators correctly. I went to an entrepreneurship training this week which inspired me to write down my story again. Hi, I’m Lisa. I went to school to initially to teach online classes so I could be home with my children while perusing a career I enjoyed. I earned my doctorate in Education a year after my first child was born. I was an multimedia creator, instructional designer, and software training before having children.

While I was pregnant I had so many questions. I wrote a blog post to help others through pregnancy called “50 Things to Know Before Having a Baby”. That post went viral! I then took the post and made a book out of it which became the first book in the “50 Things to Know” series. After I published about 50 books, I started hiring other writers to write books and creating more series of books. I have a love of travel, so I created the “Greater Than a Tourist”, and “Eat Like a Local” series.

After the pandemic my children went back to school full-time but I decided to still work on my company CZYK Publishing which now has over 2,000 books, and 1,000 audiobooks. I continue to work on these series daily and learn how I can share more tips in an easy to learn format. I love working with people all around the world to do this from my computer at home.

I would like to tell others that want to become entrepreneurs that this was not my first idea for a business. I tried YouTube for a while, created content for teachers, published 50 online classes, and was an influencer to only name a few. While I had fun doing these things, for different reasons they did not work out. But it did not keep me from trying new things until something stuck. This has been a 10-year process.

Another thing that was helpful for starting my business is I used mostly free software on the internet to grow my businesses and lots of feedback. While this was time consuming on my part, I learned so much without going into debt. This allowed me to keep trying new things until I started creating an income. I hope people can learn from my journey as it was not straight but fulfilling. I appreciate all the education that I had that helped with each step along the way.

I believe life blows you like a sailboat. You get to readjust after every strong wind.
