More than 800 admission tickets have been sold for the "Cancer Sucks" Crawfish Festival May 5 at Sand Creek Farms, sponsored by the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Bedford County.

Country recording artist Keith Anderson, best known for the song "Pickin' Wildflowers," will headline a diverse day-long roster of musical acts including Chase Perryman, Rayz'n Cain, Bitterbox, Kelly Lynn, Three Point Hitch, Zone Status, Tiffany Thompson and Granny Low. Entertainment will run from noon until midnight.

How to design your own guitar!

Step One
Buy a cheap guitar at a pawn shop. Then take measurements, including where the pickup will insert, as well as where the volume knobs are located. If you have an extremely large scanner this process will be a lot easier. Most of us do not, however, so you will have to settle for building your own out of a small digital camera and a large cardboard box. See other tutorial for this, but only if you are a gullible person.

Step Two:

Make your design. In preparation for my design I majored in communication arts in college and worked as a graphic designer for about seven years. Design times may vary, depending on your natural abilities. Amateurs are free to use Microsoft Paint; the more indie-sounding your style the better the poorly, mouse-drawn shapes and text will look. Keep in mind that your design will need 'bleed' and the printed piece will be in the shape of a rectangle, not the shape of a guitar.

Step Three:

Now having your printed design ordered (basically a giant vinyl sticker) the next step is to remove the guitar strings, the pickup encasement, the tailpiece or bridge, pick guard, and the volume/tone knobs.

*Black plastic-looking wheel at the bottom of the photo is not a component of the guitar, so do not try and wrap your head around where that piece is supposed to go.

Step Four

With all of the components removed, this is a good time to clean your guitar with a guitar-safe cleaner. I'm not going to tell you what those are or where to find them. We live in the age of the internet, so stop being lazy.

Step Five

Freak yourself out. Lay your guitar-sized sticker design on the guitar and hope like hell your measurements are correct before applying the design.

Step Six

Breathe a sigh of relief. Your measurements were correct and now you can begin applying your sticker. The first order of business is to cut out that pesky fret board. This gives you a good anchor to begin lining the rest of the sticker up with the guitar. Smooth out the bubbles with a credit card, or for those of you who are better with your money and don't like to live with a cloud of debt looming above you, a driver license works fine as well.

Step Seven

With the sticker applied correctly you can now begin adding the components back to the guitar. You can feel around for their locations with your fingers and use a razor blade to cut small indicator holes. If you grow your nails out months in advance and file them very sharply, you can skip the razor blade step and work much more efficiently.

Step Eight

First things first, look at the number eight spelled out with a capital on the first letter: it always looks weird and incorrect. Next it's cuttin' time. With all the components secured back into place, use a razor blade and begin cutting off the excess sticker area around the guitar.

Step Nine

Leave a half inch to an inch gap around the guitar. This will allow you to fold the sticker to the side of the body, making sure that from the front the edges are smooth and clean. You can later clean up these edges by using pin-striping tape to create a nice clean separation between guitar body and guitar face design.

Step Ten

Put the strings back on and voila! A custom, one-of-a-kind guitar that everyone believes you invested way more money in than the cost of a cheap pawn shop guitar and a giant sticker. Now let's hope you didn't jiggle one of the wires loose on your pickup. A lot of good a pretty guitar does that doesn't put out sound.

Step Eleven

The moment you've been waiting for, touting to your Facebook friends about your new guitar while posting a pic that is damn-near impossible to take due to the highly reflective pick guard. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine's Day! Now, how about some baby-making music?

I wanted to give you guys a treat on Valentine's day, and I didn't have enough money to buy you all flowers. But maybe I can encourage you to make love through the power of one of my favorite songs, 'Let's Get it On'.

Here is what I love about this song, watch how the place is dead before the song starts. A few bars in and everyone is up near the stage dancing!

My good friend, and fellow band mate, Nathan Donaldson was able to capture this moment on his cell phone. This was my first time ever performing karaoke in front of people. The two of us took an impromptu trip to Florida, and honestly without a little shot of courage before jumping on stage this moment might have never happened. I give thanks to rum and coke.
