he uses his brass desk scissors
to cut up his shirt.

Not that the shirt
was that far gone: one ragged cuff,
one elbow through;
but here he is,
cutting away the collar
she long since turned.

What gets to him finally,
using his scissors like a bright claw,
is prying buttons off:
after they’ve leapt,
spinning the floor, he bends
to retrieve both sizes:
he intends to
save them in some small box; he knows
he has reason to save; if only he knew
where a small box
used to be kept.
The downer was the atrocious rack of lamb, for 400 bucks I got meat that tasted like boiled vegetables.
But the beer was awesome, hooray for happy hours. Moments of drunkeness of course should lead to embarrassing songs, I don't know why I kept on thinking of Placido Domingo and John Denver's Perhaps Love. At least it's better than Michael White singing about God's morning glory.
But here's a much better one from ol'Placido. Love this one..... brrrr..... shivers.....
Morrissey weaves magic with words:

And if a double decker bus
crashes into us,
To die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die.
And if a ten-tonne truck
Kills the both of us,
to die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege, is mine
Everybody else seems to be doing a bang up job of it, well at least getting along. What is this desert doing here? There is a richness in human interactions, but not here. Here it is fleeting, and frankly, almost always stinking of desperation :)

The only thing providing succour is the thought that, come on, I can't be the worst. Obviously setting such low standards for success is not going to get me anywhere, but where does one begin?

All this is really making me suspect my childhood, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's obvious now that I was missing out on some of life's important lessons. Hmmmm.....

Anyway, time for some Gurgaon update. Back in Bangalore I never bothered with finding a band to like or even developing a taste in music because everybody else was so much into it. Coming to Gurgaon has been a sort of musical black hole for me, at least the type I listen to.

So I have actually had to step out on my own and find songs that I like. I've realised that I am really fond of indie bands, found the liking on my own, no help from anyone, well, except from Myspace and Hypem, my musical saviours over the past few months.

Among all the tendency towards soppiness though, I've found a real gem of happiness. Diamond rings is his name, and I love this tune by him. He's Canadian, and looks a little glam in the pics.

Diamond Rings- All Yr Songs (download)

And if you ever wonder,
How we keep from going under,
it's because we find another
reason not to give in

A New Start?

Some of you might be aware that I am no longer Bangalore based. Short story involved the job. The long story was me. Suffice it to say the restless bug had bitten me years ago, but finally now was the time to make a move. Forced on me somewhat, but nonetheless a welcome move.

Now I am in Gurgaon. A friend from Bangalore, Two Suitcase Sreekant is also here, and we’ve managed to split a house between the two of us. And yesterday, my stuff from Bangalore finally arrived, so the house no longer looks so empty. Just crossing my fingers for the car to get here safely.

I am here now. But the turmoil still hasn’t ceased. A lot of things up in the air. A lot of seeing how things work out. And a lot of not really being sure of anything at all.

As someone once said – It’s only a new start, if you make a new person of yourself.

Memories.....

Something that needs reiterating

I have said this before, and I say it again

Vir Sanghvi is a twat.... He writes for The Dawn, a newspaper from Pakistan. He is a perceptive person. He even writes well, for a sub-continental journalist [I think most of the Indian journos are functionally illiterate].

Recently, he wrote about Pervez Musharraf attending the India Today Conclave and the indulging audience. Indulging as in not how you would a child, but a defanged cobra. You know, once upon a time, he had bite; now it’s just the eviscerated risk that tingles the spine. I wouldn’t even say useless or purposeless, there is value in throwing words around, eliciting responses, if only the interaction serves the purpose that we know each other better; not even liking, just knowing.

For some, I think it’s just the maturity of the audience that comprehends this and takes delight in a vitriolic engagement with him. But, of course, Mr. Naqvi misses the point of all this. He builds it up, and in the end all that he manages to say is that there are Indians and Pakistanis with different viewpoints.

What a let down!

What is he trying to do? Establish a baseline from which we start our narrative journey together?

Or merely being lazy. I am very lazy myself and I recognise the symptoms. This is not a laziness of the body, this is a laziness of the mind. Unfortunately, this is a growing tendency.

With all this cornucopia of information and ease of access, in the modern age, to both disseminate and to seek out, and believe in things that one thinks are right; we still have not inculcated the the ability to break things down. To ask ourselves how things are and why things are?

I still find it ridiculous how people still don’t believe in evolution. Anybody who has looked at fossils and looks at the associated timeline, the truth of evolution just stares in the face. David Attenborough puts it so well in the video below.

And just to reiterate, yes, Theory is not a word used loosely by scientists. Theory has a very specific meaning and connotation. That we have evolved is doubtless, the theory explains the hows and whys of it.

Just because there is a Theory of Gravity, doesn’t mean gravity doesn’t exist. The theory seeks to explain its origin, occurrence and behaviour. Just by saying no geewhiz, that ain’t what my granma told me, you can’t step off a 6 story building and not expect to break your bones.

And coming back to Mr. Naqvi, what does your article mean? Does it make any point at all beyond the obvious? Something that….. that I could not gather by not being there? Does it?

Great ingredients for the article, but what a wasted recipe.

I am being very harsh on Mr. Naqvi, but it is only because I enjoy his writing. Its just the sum of his parts don’t lead to a greater whole. In contrasts, most Indian jounos, print and especially TV, just make me want to hurl. Whether it is reporting on a mermaid find, what Bush wrote to Obama and other khufiya khabre. You know who you are.The Real Fucking Idiots.

Canvas for OneNote

Loving it so far. Mind you it’s in kinda beta (An Office Labs Project) so there are some kinks, especially the ease of picking boxes and moving them around when they are quite mashed in, and some general behaviour issues aren’t yet fully polished.

Presently, Canvas allows you to review your Notes much more efficiently. The previous tab type navigation got a little confusing if you had too many tabs open. Sure you could always reorganise it to make it easier to get around. But take a look below. This is what it looks like fullscreen. Now these containers make it much easier, not only to move notes around, but also to make sure you’re not missing out on anything. You can visually cover more notes in one go.

One things I was curious about was this,

The headings seem to be in vector graphics. You can keep on zooming in, and it will still render beautifully. But the main body of the note doesn’t hold up so well when zooming. Definitely not a must have, but would look much nicer.

Laughing my ass off

Sensors are placed near it, now these sensors are used to control a robotic-type of arm.

It allows the wearer to use the arm in a more natural fashion, without thinking too much about it.

Many patients, including the first, Jesse Sullivan, an electrical worker from Tennessee who lost both arms when he was electrocuted by a wire, can not only manipulate their prosthetic arms, but feel sensations of their missing hand when their chest is touched, Dr. Kuiken said.

Dr. Todd Kuiken, a physiatrist and biomedical engineer at the Neural Engineering Center for Artificial Limbs which is in the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago(link), invented the procedure.
