Hmmm... I have been to Baguio for a couple of times now... maybe, for quite some time, it had been a place I don't even dare to think of revisiting. This 2012, I want it to be a different year, a happier one, so when my friends invited me to join them in their Baguio Trip, I'm just cool with the idea. Though I know that I have visited the must-see's in this small city, I gave them a nod and pack stuff good for 4days and 3nights.

What to Do's:
Relive the positive vibes and visit the Cemetery of Negativism.

I thought this cemetery is scary, but oh no! the tombs are all positive & humorous.

2. Strawberry Farm
Strawberry Farm is located at La Trinidad Benguet. You can either go there by cab or jeepney. Taxi meter will be around P99-103.00 (good if you're going to travel by group); jeepneys to Strawberry Farm are available across the Baguio Center Mall right after Session Road, fare is P16.00.

What to Do's:

Take a picture with the big dogs. Get it for Php50.00 - 3 shots/poses(hmm... negotiable to 4).

Must love dogs! :)

Have a Kodak moment with the old igorots; Php10.00 for each Igorot included in the picture.

Im at my happiest when I am with old people. :) Spell happiness!

7. The Mansion
The Mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines. It is located on the eastern part of the city along C.P. Romulo Drive and right across Wright Park.

8. Botanical Garden
I have not visited this park for ages now. It is a huge park! Botanical Garden is also known as the Igorot Village. It is located east of Baguio's downtown area. It is seated between Teacher's Camp and the Pacdal Circle.

9. Burnham Park
This is the most popular park in Baguio and the largest one as well.
What to Do's:
Have fun. Yes, just have fun and do the following: roller skating, biking, skateboarding, boating.

10. Wright Park
The Wright Park is also known as the "Pool of Pines". It features a shallow elongated rectangular man-made pool of water.

Guess what? We just spent Php330.00 for 2 big bags full of fresh veggies. And I mean, FRESH!

Definitely a must-try! It was my first time to taste a chocolate Leche Flan, and oooh! Undeniably a taste of heaven for only Php26.00!

I thought I have seen everything in Baguio already... but no, I think I just had a piece of it. Yes, I might have considered that I know this place so much, but this recent trip really made me feel that trips are not just all about the destination itself, sometimes, it's about the people you are with to see a particular place on a different way... to spend the days on a different manner - happier.

Baguio will always have a special place in my heart... forever.

If you'll ask me if I want to go back to Baguio right now? I'll definitely say YES. I want to know this lovely city more and more, I want to have another piece of it. I am badly craving for its cold breeze and warm people. Sigh, I think, I left my heart in Baguio... but no worries, I know it's in good hands. :)

SURVIVING MT. PULAG: A 1st Timer's Guide to SURVIVAL

Disclaimer: I am not a mountaineer nor a certified hiker/backpacker, but I know there's a lot of people who wants to go to Mt. Pulag. So, here's the share of a first timer for the first-timers. Take note, it's a DIY Trip. (Im not really into packages nor tours; Li Belizario of Sablay Mountaineering Group organized this).

Mt. Pulag is the 3rd highest mountain in the Philippines. It is located within the municipalities of Baguias, Kabayan, and Bokod in Benguet; Tinoc in Ifugao and Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya. It seats at 2,922 meters above sea level.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Since it's my first time to climb, I really bombarded my friend with a lot of questions on what to wear and must-haves. I'm not really into anything cold so going up somewhere with below 0 degrees temp is a matter of life and death for me. Yeah, call me OA! But Im just like anyone who's afraid to die. Hehe

For the outfit/attire, it can be categorized into 5: Ascend(from Manila-Baguio-Benguet-Campsite), Campsite(from camping to sleeping time), Summit(early morning ascend to the peak of Mount Pulag), Descend(trekking from Campsite to Ranger Station), and Travel(from Ranger Station-Baguio-Manila).

Ascend: Dri-fit Shirts, Shorts, Tights, Leggings

Campsite: Definitely thicker clothing than what you had during the ascend. Jackets, warmers, pants

Summit: Jackets, warmers, pants, bonnets, windbreakers, handgloves

Descend: Dri-fit Shirts, Shorts, Tights, Leggings

Travel: Any comfortable clothes :) Weeee!

Everything Yellow! :) Dahil yellow ang pambansang kulay ni Smiley, puro yellow ang gamit ko para happy.

Since this was my first climb, it was not easy for me to gather all of these stuff. I borrowed most of my things such as tent, sleeping bag, and warmer. I bought my bubble-type jacket at ukay-ukay for Php50.00 only. I invested my money for a good pair of trekking shoes (alam ko kasi medyo lampa ako at madaling madapa so better save myself) and a 35-L bag from Conquer. I got my headlamp for Php150.00 from a tiangge in Park Square, Ayala.

My other essentials:NIPS - my key to surviving hunger, thirst, and stress; MERENGGUE-the best kainin sa tuktok ng Mt. Pulag, ang crispy niya; OFF-LOTION-not really a necessity, walang lamok sa malamig na bundok

WHEN TO CLIMB:
Though Mt. Pulag is accessible all year round, it is recommended to climb during the early part of the year, when the weather is good so you can really enjoy the magnificent "Sea of Clouds".

HOW TO GET THERE:
There are 4 major trails to the summit of Mt. Pulag - Ambangeg, Akiki, Tawangan, and Ambaguio. For beginners, you can take the Ambangeg-Ambangeg trail, it is the easiest.

To take Ambangeg Trail, take a bus from Manila to Baguio. I prefer taking Victory Liner since they have Baguio Trips every hour. Fee is Php455. But for my 1st Pulag Adventure, I did something different to cut down transportation cost, click here to find out how I went to Baguio for Php143.00.

Friendly Tip:
It is best to leave Manila at night around 9pm onwards. Since Manila-Baguio is like a 6-hour-drive, you'll arrive in Baguio City before dawn.

From Baguio, rent a jeepney to the jump-off point which is at Badabak Ranger Station. There will be 2 stop-overs - 1) Jang-Jang's Eatery also known as "Kainan" and 2)DENR.

At the Ranger Station, make sure to have a heavy meal before climbing. This is also the last stop where a decent CR is found. Take advantage.

Before climbing, your group will be asked how many guides and porters you'll take with you. Each group are required to get 1 guide. You know the reason if you listened carefully with the briefing at DENR. Guide fee is Php250.00. Each porter is Php250.00.

IMPORTANT!!!
Waterproof everything!
You'll notice how it gets colder as you goes up. Especially at night, seems like everything gets moist and wet.

Respect. Say "Tabi-tabi po."
The local tribes consider the mountain as a sacred place. Learn how to respect.

Greet the locals.
I got a chance to talk with our guide, Ate Nivera. I could say that we have talked anything under the Pulag sun. From mountaineering, to childhood stories, from accidents to getting married and even from cooking to facebook(ing). She told me that a month ago from our visit, a mountaineer got sick after not greeting an old local during the climb. All the locals in Mt. Pulag are nice and warm, so I think, there's nothing wrong with sharing a smile and a simple nod.

Weeheehoo!!! 13 hours and 12 minutes left before 2012. Here I am, cramming to start my post about my 2011 Travels; just then I realized, I haven't traveled much this year. And again it was because of my decision to hibernate (yes, it was MY DECISION). I gone too busy mending my broken heart, I almost thought of deleting this blog and create a new one which I would call www.chasingmyex.com. Haha just kidding.

Saturday Breakfast at Soderno

For a call center agent like me, I rarely get a chance to eat my meals at the right time, since I work and stay awake in unusual hours - my breakfast is your dinner, and my dinner is your breakfast, got it? Well, it's quite complicated.

After 5 sleep-deprived days, my aunt uttered words that somewhat lifted my tired body. "Let's have breakfast at Soderno." (I remember how those words captivated me, with just a blink of an eye, I smiled and lulled myself to sleep. The thought of going to Soderno the next morning was something to be excited about.)

How To Get There:
Well, Soderno is just like a 10-minute-drive (inclusive of heavy traffic during December) from my aunt's house in Alabang. This newest weekend food and lifestyle market is located at Molito Lifestyle Center (corners of Alabang Zapote Road, Madrigal Avenue and Commerce Avenue).

Okay, Enough of this! I'm hungry!

There's a huge variety of food finds at Soderno. But since I am really into Filipino Food, I so love this booth with Filipino's all-time-favorite -- Street Food.

The food choices are really great. The venue is well-ventilated. However, I think there should be more chairs and tables for hungry people. I've seen some flies roaming around as well.

Being the only daughter, I understand how my parents became too protective in nature. Believe me, I understand, I really understand. :)

That's why I decided not to let my parents know, especially my Mom what I did this weekend... Sssssh! (I'm not really good in lying nor in keeping my mouth shut but this I should never ever tell them, I want to keep them away from sleepless nights or from endlessly dialing my number on their cellphones. See, Im just being sweet.)

So, let me share you my Weekend Secret. (Good thing, my parents don't have a facebook nor a twitter account to follow this post. Love it!)

Weeeeheeehoooo!!!

1. PLEASE DON’T TELL MY MOM I DID NOT RIDE A BUS TO BAGUIO
To get to Mt. Pulag (Benguet), one needs to ride a bus from Manila to Baguio. Yes, that’s the usual comfy way, it should be, for a long drive like this. But when my friend told me about the idea of secretly riding a 14-wheeler-truck of fruits and veggies, without any second thoughts, I said, “Gusto ko Yan!”

It’s my first time to ride a 14-wheeler truck. I am just really so happy.

IT'S A 14-WHEELER TRUCK! Don’t expect that it’s air conditioned. There are also no comfortable reclining lazy boy chairs inside. Everything is made of cold steel. But good news, you can get some carton boxes and give these cartons their once-in-a-lifetime-chance to be sleeping bags.

Backpain? Uncomfortable? Hmmm… You might feel that, but, it’s not the end of the world. That’s me sleeping… SOUNDLY.

Friendly Tip: Since it’s a closed container truck, those with claustrophobia are not advisable to do this. Also, take a Bonamine an hour before the ride for those w/ motion sickness. But if you forgot to do so¸ you can sneak some calamansi as your alternative, hmm, we did. Hehe

The fruits and vegetables should be delivered fresh, there would be no stopovers for you to grab some snacks and do bio breaks. Take note: I had to control my bladder for more than 6 hours.

Tinago ni Manong yung mga orange sa ilalim niya. Tsk, sayang! Gusto ko sana papakin! :)

Anyways, aside from the experience, the thought of saving Php350-500 is a big plus. We gave the driver Php143.00 for letting us hitch.

2. PLEASE DON’T TELL MY MOM I HAD MY FIRST TOPLOAD RIDE
My family (my parents, my tita, my brother) promote safe driving a lot. They strictly observe traffic rules. Seatbelts and other safety gears should always be on. But there are some things in life I just couldn’t miss – tsararan! The FAMOUS TOPLOAD!

A Must-Try!

FYI: Topload is the popular way of riding the jeepneys in the countryside. Passengers can opt to seat on top of the jeepney.

It's not your ordinary ride!

All the jeepneys to Mt. Pulag stops in this one particular canteen, I forgot the exact name though. Locals and the jeepney drivers call it as “Kainan”. You can have your brunch here, buy some packed lunch, water, energy drinks, snack, etc. I tell you, the food is cheap but awesome!

On the walls of the canteen, you can see pictures of Filipino celebrities who have been here. Pictures of the store owners with Kristine Hermosa, Robin Padilla, Jericho Rosales, Diether Ocampo, and Jeffrey Santos are neatly framed.

In my ambition to have my picture be displayed also, I asked my friend to take a pic of me. Unfortunately, the canteen owner didn’t ask for a copy (asa! :P), so I’ll just post it here.

After the 3 and a half hour of bumpy topload ride, we arrived at DENR Center. We had our names listed in their logbook and took a 20-minute briefing about Mt. Pulag (15mins video presentation and a 5 minute lecture by Ms. Daisy). During the briefing, I’ve noticed that the room was filled with people of different nationalities; that made me wonder and more excited to discover the beauty of Mt. Pulag.

At DENR, you’ll see numerous tarpaulins of Mountaineering Groups and companies who visited Mt. Pulag already. There is also a booth here where hundreds of ID’s have been pinned. Souvenir items are also being sold here.

Okay, the adventure continues…

After another hour of jeepney ride from DENR Center, we arrived at the Ranger Station of Mt. Pulag. We had our lunch there and took advantage of the presence of a comfort room. Yes, I made sure I had my Weewee galore before climbing.

3. PLEASE DON’T TELL MY MOM I’D BEEN HIKING FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS with A BIG HEAVY BACKPACK
Early this year, I was diagnosed with a severe case of TMJ; it has something to do with the joint that connects my jaw, my skull and my spinal. The doctor said there’s no way for TMJ to be cured. As of now, the only available relief for those who suffer from TMJ is to manage or to learn how to cope up with the pain. Yes, I am having a TMJ Pain Management Therapy for about 9 months now. Since the diagnosis, I was told by the doctor not to do any strenuous activities, not to carry heavy stuff, not to talk a lot, not to do anything that would require a lot of effort. But hey! That’s synonymous to stopping myself from traveling, from living (I did for a while but I need to test how far my body could go, to know up to what degree of pain my back can endure. This was the only worry I got – going back with a worse case of the said disorder.)

But hey, look! I’m all smiling…

I know it's the easiest trail of Mt. Pulag but whew, it's very exhausting! Promise! Drink a lot of water to prevent dehydration

Sure my parents would go loco if they will know that I enjoyed playing and jumping at Luzon's highest peak (2,922 meters above sea level).

“Don’t ever talk to strangers.”, that’s the first thing my Mom instilled in me since childhood. It comes along with not looking them in their eyes, or not accepting candies or anything from them. Yes I know, our world has become too dangerous. It’s too hard to trust.

But maybe, just maybe, STRANGERS are FRIENDS we haven’t met yet. We just have to reach out, and be open.

I will never forget the day I fulfilled one of my dreams.

Ate Nevera, 25 years old, an Igorot. We’re just of the same age but I call her Ate as a sign of respect. Mababaw ang kaligayahan ko kaya nung sinabi niyang 25 yrs old din siya, eh napasigaw na ako sa tuwa. Just imagine I’ve been yelling “Ay, ate 25 din ako! 25 din ako! Parehas tayo!” while trekking down the mountain. Her birthday is on November 2. So just if ever, you’ll have a climb on this date next year; please do me a favor, bring a cake for my friend or just a little something as a gift.

I don’t know why but I want to meet and live with the Igorots (You can even find it in About the Blogger section of Chasing Philippines).

Just sharing my first real talk with an Igorot…
Me: “Ate, gaano na kayo katagal naga-guide?”
Nevera: “May 1 year na din. Pero matagal na akong umaakyat ng bundok.”
Me: “Ay, talaga ate! Ang galing naman! Kelan yung unang akyat niyo sa bundok?”
Nevera: ”Bata pa ako. Kasi ganun kaming mga bata dito, pag naisip naming umakyat ng bundok, yun aakyat na kami.”
Me: “Ang saya naman ng ganun… Panganay ba kayo Ate?”
Nevera: “Hindi pangalawa ako.”

Me: “Hmm.. ang galing. Okay yan ate. Ako din eh, ako na nagpapa-aral sa kapatid ko mula nung Elementary siya. Ngayon, High School na siya. Masarap maging ate noh? Ano bang course niyo, ate?”
Nevera: “Vocational yung kinuha ko. Cooking.”
Me: “Ay, wow, ate! Alam niyo mahilig din ako magluto. Pangarap ko nga magka-carinderia eh.”
Nevera: (she got too excited and yelled) “Ako din, gusto ko rin magka-carinderia. Gusto ko talaga kasi tutal malapit lang yung bahay namin dun sa Ranger eh walang kainan dun.”
Me: Bakit di kayo magtayo, ate?
Nevera: “Pera ang kailangan eh.”
Me: “Aaah, oo nga ate, kailangan mag-ipon kahit papaano. Puhunan tsaka yung mga lalagyan.”
Nevera: “Oo nga. Pero baka mga next year.”
Me: ”Ano ba mga niluluto mo ate?”
Nevera: “Yung mga luto lang dito yung alam ko, tulad ng Pinikpikan tsaka mga gulay. Ikaw? Ano ba specialty mo?”
Me: “Wow! Sarap naman nun, nakatikim na ako ng Pinikpikan. Specialty ko, sinigang tsaka adobo. Pero syempre pag Mama’t Papa ko yung tumitikim, hindi siya masarap, tama lang, kasi naman, grabe naman kasarap magluto parents ko. Pero pag yung mga kasama at kaibigan ko naman yung tumitikim, masarap naman. Hehe”
Nevera: “Talaga? Turuan mo naman ako nung mga niluluto mo. Bigyan mo ako ng recipe. Add mo ako sa FB.”
Me: “Eheh, sige ate!”
Nevera: “Kaya lang yung sa account ng kapatid ko yung gamitin ko kasi wala akong FB.”

Me: “Ate, ano bang pagkakaiba ng Igorot at Ibaloi?”
Nevera: “Hmm.. parehas lang yun.”
Me: “Alam mo ba ate, pangarap kong makakilala ng Igorot. Dapat nga pupunta ako ng Sagada, gusto ko lang tumira dun ng 1 linggo. Kaya lang bumagyo.”
Nevera: “Ako na lang, ako. Igorot ako. Ayan may kakilala ka ng Igorot. Kaibigan mo, kung okay lang.
Me: *speechless, I just smiled. I never thought that, that was the exact moment one of my ultimate dreams in life was fulfilled*

A Weekend Date with God at Caleruega

Warning: Again, this is more of a personal post than a travel guide. Reading this post might cause eye sore, dizziness, and worst, it can trigger trauma.

Almost a month ago, I had to face a critical point in my life; that is, to finally end up everything. Yeah, I know, the major-major heartbreak happened for about ages now. I guess there's a resounding "What? Hindi ka pa rin nakaka-move on???" in the background. But I'm proud to say, unlike before, I haven’t spent the past 6 months crying my everyday life. I was able to live my life. Yes, I survived but I know that deep inside me, I haven’t accepted everything yet...

...Not until I went to Caleruega.

Plasbak:
Eversince all the hurt and depression sinked in, I've been planning for my great escape. I wanted to go somewhere no one knows me, somewhere no one would look at me as if there's something wrong with me, somewhere no one would wonder if I am just okay or what. I have prepared myself going as far as Singapore and planned to stay there for good, I even availed all my Vacation Leaves for a Sagada Trip.

To the Moving On and Beyond, Take 1!
Just a few days before I leave for Sagada, a series of storms came in which destroyed the rice terraces and the road to Banaue. With the massive destruction in the North, I needed to change my itinerary.

Again, again, again: To the Moving On and Beyond Take 2!
Since spending my moving-on moments somewhere in the North was quite impossible, I decided to go the opposite way. I planned of climbing a bunch of mountains in the South. Itinerary – check. Budget – check. Equipments – check. And just when everything's ready for the climb, PAG-ASA announced that there will be a storm in the provinces of the South. Whoo!! Not again???! Pag sine-swerte ka nga naman oh!

I got depressed. Yes, I really wanted to leave, I wanted to go somewhere. Yes, I NEED to go somewhere else. I just can’t spend our supposed to be 6th year anniversary in my room. It can’t be. It wouldn’t be good, I know.

A day before our anniversary, it seemed like suddenly, everything became dark… again. I know I have learned how to cope up with the pain. I know I have already moved on. I know I have passed and succeeded the DABDA for a couple of times already. But why was there something with October ** that made me feel gloomy.

And then, just out of nowhere…

I thought of…

… Caleruega.

I’m quite afraid because I am not ready to talk to God yet – I can’t lie to Him, He knows how I love that person so much. He knows everything. He knows every little thing, and I do not know what He is going to tell me. Worst, I am afraid that a day visit in Caleruega would not end up everything (compared to the 5 day stay I am supposed to spend in Sagada).

I wonder how many broken hearts went and healed themselves here...

My Sanctuary... Thank You God!

To my surprise, Caleruega changed how my great escape was supposed to be.

I wanted to escape because I wanted to vent out; I wanted to cry out every single drop of tear I have in me. I wanted to feel all the pain. I wanted to be myself, just give in and admit how I am still madly in love with that person. I wanted to release everything – every love, every passion, every dream, every hope and pain that I still have with me…

I just wanted to be alone.

Surprisingly, I was not alone that weekend. I felt God was with me, just in front of me, standing in all the trees that surround the area. For the whole day, I didn’t utter any single word but it felt like I have expressed everything I had been wanting to voice out for a long time now.

Surprisingly, I did not cry – this time, not because I held my tears nor I want to save myself from embarrassment that I haven’t moved on. But, maybe, just maybe, just like how my love for that person came in the most unexpected time and in the most unexpected manner, the GIFT of ACCEPTANCE came into me unexpectedly.

...On our supposed-to-be-anniversary, I decided to surrender myself and dated God. I had my solo retreat with all your letters and gifts. Again, I read all the hundred I Love You's and promises but the pain of being broken surprisingly didn't show up. It was a beautiful memory I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

The North Philippines Visitor's Bureau (NPVB), in cooperation with Manila North Tollways Corporation and Victory Liner, will be holding the much-awaited Lakbay Norte 3.

Lakbay Norte 3 is a 9-day Media Tour of North Philippines wherein a bus load of media participants from broadsheet, TV, travel magazines, and blogs come together to produce over 100 articles and features about North and Central Luzon.

For this year, six (6) lucky bloggers will have the chance to join the Lakbay Norte 3: Outdoor Adventures of the North scheduled on January 22 - 30, 2012. This is an all-expense-paid Northern Luzon familiarization tour - Yes, that means that transportation around North Luzon from Manila and back, food, lodging, and activities included in the itinerary, are all for FREE. :)

How to Join?
The blogger should be at least 18 yrs old and resident of the Philippines. The blog should at least be 1 year old at the start of the contest proper. Previous participants of Lakbay Norte are ineligible.

It is one of the few places in our country which successfully mixes the old and the new, nature and modernity, the mountains and seas, the land and the underwater world, all virtually a few minutes away from each other. And with its fair climate, exotic hideaways and a dash of modern living, Cebu City is the most sought after business and leisure destination.

When the 2nd Meeting Feels like the First-Time...
Yes, this is my 2nd time to visit Cebu City. It was back in 2006 when I stayed in this city for 3 months. I did something weird - I worked as a receptionist in an insurance company (that was like my first-summer job ever). Yes, you got it right, I worked as a receptionist in Cebu and I don't even know a single Bisaya word. Could you imagine that? If only I could explain how traumatic that career experience had been.

And I know this is quite embarrassing, but, I never visited any tourist spot in Cebu within that 3-month-stay. I didn't even bother to visit the famous Magellan's Cross; but I always spent my lunchtime at CNT Lechon. (Oops! I thought that was the only tourist spot back then, Hehehe)

So this time, I was really excited to have a grand-eyeball with Cebu. Weeheehoo!!!

A friendly tipid tip, you can consider staying in Sampaguita Suites for your 1-day-stay in Cebu City. The rooms are quite affordable and pretty neat.

Defying Gravity and Heartbreak at The Plunge Danao

Okay, Let's talk about Love on my blog. Haha Kidding. But just a precautionary measure, you can click the "x" button at the right top corner of the screen, if ever that I slip and got too emotional. Yeah, this run-for-your-lives-advice is highly recommended for those allergic with love, cheesiness, mushiness, or being affectionate on whatever degree.

Hmm.. So I think the title itself explains why this blog had been on hiatus for about 4 months now. Valid excuse, right? It was a beautiful 6-year relationship that came to an end so I really thought I'm gonna die. Yes, I really thought I'm gonna die. Have I mentioned that I thought I'm gonna die? :P

I cancelled all the flights and roadtrips that I booked and decided to hibernate. But I think I hibernated too long enough that even I wasnt able to see myself no more. To cut the long story short, one fine day, I decided to go with my friends to Bohol.

To the Healing and Beyond!

"The Plunge" is a canyon swing adventure attraction mounted over a 200-meter-high and 300-meter-wide gorge. A person would have a 45-meter-free-fall before being launched on a pendulum swing measuring to a hundred meter diameter. -- Just got that description from E.A.T. Danao's website. Reading that, seems like a death-defying stunt huh? Hmmm... not really, but I know, this is what I need. Yes, something extreme and adrenalin-pumping activity.

To be honest, I wasn't really able to get everything since I am too excited

The Plunge is the first ever canyon swing in the Philippines. It is considered to be the main attraction in E.A.T. (Eco, Educational, Extreme Adventure Tour) Danao.

Promise, it's not as scary as it looks. Definitely a must try!

Since, I want to feel everything; release every fears and pain that I have inside, I decided to do it the "Head First Style".

The moment EAT Danao staff shouted "Bombs Away!", everything became heaven. I cannot explain how I felt.

Flashback: On our way to Danao, I kept on thinking what words should be coming out of my mouth when I try the Plunge. As hopeless romantic as I am, the thought of shouting my ex's name and a hundred I Love You's came to me. Maybe with that, all my love will cease; hoping that all the hurt will be gone with the wind. Another option is to release all the pain by saying all the bad words that I could gather. I decided not to do the latter.

If only I could hear that "Bombs Away" repeatedly, I would.

Surprisingly, I was not able to utter anything. It was very extraordinary. Yes, it was a less than a minute experience, but it was the first time that I realized that I am no longer hurting. That, maybe, I was just so entangled with the thought that I was left hanging in a moment.

Maybe, there are just really some times in our lives that we are faced with extreme challenges wherein we are so afraid to handle. At times, we wonder why we need to experience those. We step back and hide, trying to avoid the hurdles. Our mind becomes clotted with these thoughts, questions, and fears. Thus, stops everything.

But maybe, just maybe, all we need to do is admit how hard we fell. How we strongly believed. How hard we tried to hold on. Maybe, all we need to do is accept the circumstance, surrender everything and let go...

Ironically, I can say that I found surreality in this extreme ride.
Life changing as I may say.

Obviously, I was really enjoying being swung in a pendulum. The Plunge is set amid the wonderful scenery of Danao's lush foliage. Kung ganito ba naman kaganda yung backdrop eh! Weeheehoo!

All of a sudden, all the fears melted away. It was a blissful moment that I would never ever forget for the rest of my life.

Thank You God for making me live! Hindi naman pala nakakamatay ang heartbreak. =)

Now, I know why we need to pursue these challenges; Sometimes, we need to lose hope and feel like dying so we will appreciate the beauty of living. We need to be weak and defenseless so we will see how strong we can be. Sometimes we need to be left alone so we will learn to appreciate how wonderful it is to be surrounded by good people. And sometimes, we need to cry pale of tears so we would appreciate every morning that we see ourselves smiling...

Our spontaneous trip to the famous Pagsanjan Falls started when my friend uploaded an album in Facebook entitled "Pagsanjan". The set of pictures were really impressive which drove me nuts for the whole day. I was so fascinated, I showed it to my little brother; to my surprise, my little brother did not pay any "wwwooow reactions". He even asked me where and what Pagsanjan Falls is. I was like "Woah! Seriously? You don't know what Pagsanjan Falls is?" I even bragged to him that I passed my Sibika at Kultura during my Grade School years because of my usual-slash-irreplaceable answer to the question: "Magbigay ng halimbawa ng Talon." Of course, without any second thoughts, my immediate answer eversince was - Pagsanjan Falls. 1 point din yun! :)

With my desire to let my brother meet Pagsanjan Falls, we started researching the how to's. Kaka told me about the details and I got skeptical w/ the estimated budget that was quoted - an affordable P800.00 all-in. I did not believe it at first because my friend who just went to Pagsanjan told me that it is P1375/pax for the Pagsanjan Falls Experience, a total of P1500 actually with all the municipality fee, raft fee, etc. So, P1500 plus the transpo fares. I kept on asking why the estimated budget was so cheap but when Kaka told me that we are going to take another route which is through Cavinti, though I never heard of it before, Go lang ng Go!

How To Get There:

-From Buendia, take Green Star Bus to Sta. Cruz Laguna. Fare is P130.00. Once you reached Sta. Cruz Terminal, ride a jeepney just across the street to Sta. Cruz Market . In Sta. Cruz Market, look for the street in front of Mercury Drug Store, there you can find the jeepneys to Cavinti. Fare is P23.00. Ask the driver to drop you off the cemetery, you can take a tricycle from there to Pueblo El Salvador Eco Park. (There are 2 eco-parks in Cavinti so make sure to be specific, locals call it "Pueblo") Tricycle fare is 10.00/pax.

The 45-minute trip to Cavinti is exhilarating. The atmosphere is quite relaxing and the air is really fresh (Real fresh, not amoy poopoo ng cow). Imagine a town in the outskirt of the Province of Laguna and is situated in the foothills of Sierra Madre Mountain Ranges, superb!

F.Y.I.
The real name of Pagsanjan Falls is Magdapio Falls. This most popular falls is not actually located in Pagsanjan; it is seated in the heart of Cavinti, Laguna. But since the falls is usually accessible via Pagsanjan, it become popularly known as Pagsanjan Falls.

With elevation of around 400 meters above sea level, the tour to Pagsanjan Falls starts at Pueblo El Salvador Eco Park in Barangay Tibatib, Cavinti. The entrance fee is P200.00. We are supposed to get the P500 package but it's no longer available. The local government already stopped the eco-park offering this packages since the municipal wants all the tourists to take the route from Pagsanjan.

It's not as simple as a walk in the park. Not all the roads in Pueblo are well-paved. You have to overcome the muddy roads and these big roots

WOW Pagsanjan Experience!

The thunderous sound of the water falling down the 300 meter high cliff was really scary. I cant explain what I felt - a combination of 70% excitement and 30% nervousness. But whoala! As we got nearer, we were treated with an unexpected and wonderful surprise - it was my first time to see a full rainbow. I kept on saying, "Wow rainbow! Ang ganda! Ang ganda!" It was totally amazing that this magnificent falls is enveloped with this beautiful rainbow, unbelievable! I was in awe and smiling, that I almost forgot that we are less than a meter away from the falls -- then suddenly, a huge volume of water hit me. Actually, I was not wearing a helmet or any protective head gear. Yes, that was dangerous but I just want to know the feeling of that huge amount of water (from 2 biggest rivers in Laguna) hitting my head. Di pa kasi ako nakaligo sa falls kaya inenjoy ko lang. :P

This is the most sought-after and most popular activity in Pagsanjan Falls. Here, 2-3 tourists passengers are treated to a thrilling wild river ride. Hungry? Don't worry there is a barbeque stand in the middle of this rainforest, about 900 meters away from the main falls. Boatmen will not really advise/encourage you to eat here because they say it is quite expensive - food are priced in dollars because most visitors are foreigners.

Friendly Tips/Things to Remember/Important Info
(Whatever you might wanna call it, read it):
* Pay a visit at Church of Sta. Cruz, the church is really nice

* Make sure to bring ziplocks to protect your cameras, cellphone, or any other digital gadgets

* You don't have to get a hotel/hostel room if you're thinking where you can change clothes and have a shower. There's a shower room just across Pagsanjan Falls. It's clean, got ample supply of water, and FREE. :) (wala lang ilaw tsaka sabitan ng damit).

* Don't bring a big backpack. Since the municipal government doesn't allow tourists to take the Cavinti Route, you won't be allowed to take Pagsanjan Route going back if you took Cavinti. In short, you need to climb up those 672 steel steps and take the 90 degree angled ladders. Whoah! It was a very intense-slash-I thought-I'm-gonna-die-climb. I dont recommend this route for those with heart illness, asthma, arthritis, and those who just had a major heartbreak.

* Bring a lot of water.

* There's a hidden cave just behind the falls. They call it the Devil's Cave, quite scary but I love staying inside that cave. You can swim inside the Devil's Cave, just be mindful of the rafts.

* And ahmm.. (optional) Don't forget to taste the water as well (wala lang, first time ko talaga makakita ng falls, kaya tinikman ko na din). Infairness, Masarap siya! Matamis yung tubig. :)

I haven't posted anything for quite some time now. Anyways, I would just like to greet our blog, Chasing Philippines, a Happy-Happy Birthday! Yes, we celebrated our 1st Blog Anniversary hmmm.. exactly 1 week ago.

This is Bibingka, a traditional Filipino Christmas food. It is usually being sold outside the church during Misa de Gallo. I had it personalized for our blog's special day. Best served hot. :)

I really have nothing much to say right now, we were planning to celebrate the 1st Blog Anniversary of Chasing Philippines with a 5-day-stay in Sagada; we were so excited! Itinerary-check!, reservations - check!, budget - check! Hmmm... however, some unfortunate events happened for the past few weeks. I just discovered that I have a severe case of TMJ (or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder), for reason I really do not know. It affected my spine; I had severe back pains, headache, neck & shoulder pain, I almost lost my hearing ability too.

Good thing, I am recovering now ( Thank you to the doctors, dentists and to my beloved piggy-bank). Weeheehooo!! I'm surviving! I am undergoing a therapy (which will last for 8 months); Yes, 8 months and that means that I cannot be pushy and do things that will require a lot of energy and effort. I cannot carry heavy stuff, I cannot run, I cannot trek, I cannot climb, in short I cannot do things that I love for the next couple of months! Waah! This is so not me!!! Hahaaist, but what can I do? Health and safety first before anything else. Not to mention, I am currently doing a minor TMJ exercise while I am writing this post. :)

I can say that 2010 had been a very great year for Chasing Philippines. Here are some of our unforgettable trips/memories last year:

I almost got bald when I had my newly-rebonded hair twisted the rappel in Camp John Hay's Paintball Republic.

I learned that Hundred Islands is not an exclusive park/resort. Call me stupid, but I really thought na may exclusive membership ang Hundred Islands at mayayaman lang ang nakakapunta dito.

We enjoyed jumping off the cliff inside the Imelda Cave. Must-try!!!

One cold morning in Cavite, when I woke up, my ever dearest tastebuds are craving for something yummy hot. Instead of indulging myself with neither a 3 in 1 nor a starbucks (which I am not a fan of), I decided to give my tummy a treat for a special bulalo (Bulalo is a famous Filipino soup dish with the beef bone marrow as its main ingredient and some veggies.) Without further a do, I took my jacket and immediately headed off to Tagaytay.

So, Where's Mahogany Market?

I haven't been to Mahogany Market before so when I reached Tagaytay Rotonda, I asked some locals of its whereabout.
How To Get There:
by Public Transpo
You can take any buses going to Alfonso/Mendez, Cavite or Nasugbu/Balayan, Batangas. At the Rotonda, take a jeepney with route passing by NBI Tagaytay. Ask the driver to drop you off at Mahogany. Jeepney fare: Php8.00.

by Car
From Tagaytay Rotonda, just go straight to the road going to Batangas. Once you see the row of restos like Pancake House, Leslie's, RSM; you'll see a Y-road with a Petron Gas Station in the middle. The left road is still the road going to Tagaytay, so turn right and look for the Hall of Justice Building. Mahogany Market is just at the back.

Nom...Nom...Nom.
The Mahogany Market is famous for its Bulalo. The Bulalo here is made from fresh beef straight from the market's daily produce. There's a lot of food stalls and carinderia in Mahogany Market, yes, there's a lot to choose from; don't worry, the waitresses-slash-servers-slash-barkers will help you decide, promise.

So, if Paranaque and Macapagal are known for fresh seafoods for 'paluto', then Mahogany Market is the counterpart of it if you're looking for fresh beef.

Yes, it is so fresh that just right in front of the food stalls would be the meat section.

Disclaimer: I do not know if this is a post-valentine effect but I am feeling that my brother is thinking of getting married. It was just the first time that my brother brought up the concept of getting tied up; he asked me about Caleruega. So this post is actually a favor/assignment that I am doing for my brother, which, I want to share.

the Transfiguration Chapel is just small but it is really beautiful... simply astounding

I know you've heard of Caleruega often, or at least once from your colleagues who are madly inlove. This was my reaction the first time I heard about it 2 years ago.

Officemate: "Eeeee... ang saya-saya namin nung weekend dinala ako ni *insert bf's name here*, sa Caleruega.
Me: "Saan yun?
Officemate: "Ay, hindi mo alam kung saan yun? Haaay nako! Sa may Tagaytay yun! Ang ganda-ganda talaga nung simbahan. Bla bla bla bla bla.."

Okay, as of this date, I have been to Caleruega 2-3 times now. And I have learned that it is not in Tagaytay. It is located at Brgy. Kaylaway, Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas. Maybe, the reason why, its locaton is being misinterpreted is because you can find Nasugbu just after Tagaytay.

Caleruega - Close to Nature. Closer to God. True. Very True.

Caleruega Church is not just famous of its beautiful chapel but it is also widely known as a perfect venue for renewal. It is a house of prayer where you can hold your retreats, recollections, prayer workshops, leaderships seminars, youth camps, liturgy workshops and environmental/agricultural-related activities. Since the place gives you this different feeling of getting closer to God while your getting close to nature, Caleruega has been so in-demand for wedding ceremonies and pre-nuptial shoots. (As I have heard, you need to book at least a year ahead if you want to celebrate your wedding day here, for some obvious reasons that a lot really wishes to be married here).

Go to either BLTB or Crow Bus Terminal in Pasay. Take the bus that will go to Nasugbu, Balayan, or Calatagan (they're all gonna pass Nasugbu). Once you reached Nasugbu, tell the driver to drop you off at Evercrest. You can either walk To Caleruega Church which is a 2km hike or take a tricycle. Tricycle Fare will be around Php30.00.

A Stormy Overnight Stay in Cagbalete Island (The Full Story)

I can say that our DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Cagbalete Island Trip was one of the most unforgettable trips that I had. Why? Hmmm... Here's the full story:

We just learned about Cagbalete Island when we were playing with Google Earth, we were actually looking for Balesin Island (which we saw in a travel magazine). Unlike Balesin, Cagbalete Island had not yet been published in any travel mag; the beauty has not yet been touched. With that on mind, we had been immediately captivated by this undiscovered paradise, and decided to pack for a 2 Day-1 Night Stay in Cagbalete.

How To Get There:
suggested departure from Manila is 3 am.

1. From Buendia, you can take JAM or JAC Liner to go to Lucena (around 3-4 hr trip). Fare is P209.00/pax.
2. Once you reach Lucena Grand Terminal, take the ordinary bus to Mauban via Mainit. It is a 1 1/2 hr trip, fare is P50.00 each.
3. From Mauban Bus Station, take a tricycle to bring you to Pantalan Port (there are 2 ports in Mauban, so better to be specific). To make sure, tell the tricycle driver to bring you to the port to Cagbalete Island. Standard rate of tricycle fare is P9.00/person.
4. At the Pantalan Port, look for the ferry boats to Cagbalete. I highly recommend for you to take the big ferry boats Anthony or Neneng. It will be approximately 45mins-1 hr boatride depending on the weather. Fare is P40.00 each.
5. Once you arrived at Cagbalete (Sabang Port), to reach the resorts, you need to trek for about 10-20 mins.

Summary of Fare Expenses: P658.00 only Manila-Cagbalete-Manila

Since I was too excited to see Cagbalete Island, I had flooded my facebook wall with my countdown statuses for this trip; a colleague of mine, who was a local of Mauban (the town across Cagbalete), learned about my trip to this virgin island and immediately sent me a text message. She told me to be extra careful in Cagbalete Island since the island is known for Pitik-Pitik. She told me not to just drink or eat anything that will be offered by the locals. She told me to make sure that I will be bringing my own food, own water, and my own utensils. I kept on asking what Pitik-Pitik is, and she just uttered "basta mag-ingat ka". With those words said, promise, it scared the s*%T out of me, that I almost backed out. Yes, I almost backed out, that my overflowing excitement went down and was replaced by nervousness as the trip draws closer. I even try to search the web for any definition or description of Pitik-Pitik but I failed to get any. (In a country where Shake, Rattle and Roll is considered to be the best horror film of all time, there is nothing wrong on listening and believing the stories of the locals.)

And the trip went on...

Where To Stay:
There are only 3 resorts in Cagbalete Island. Do not expect some five-star hotel accommodations.

We chose Villa Cleofas and decided to pitch a tent there for an overnight stay. It is P300 for 2-3 pax. :)

While we were enjoying the beach around 3pm, strong wind blew and rain poured heavily. It destroyed the tent that we just set up. There were no typhoon reports or whatever so we were shocked. We stayed inside our tent from that time on until 8am the next day. How lucky right?

Flashback: It felt like it was the longest night I ever had in my life. I was so scared since it was just my first time to really sleep in a tent. I got crazy that I was thinking that a bull or any wild animal can just easily attack me. Thinking that Me and Kaka were the only people in that part of the island, every minute felt like forever. By the way, I haven't told you that the island does not have electricity yet. So define DARK NIGHT. It was also my first time to sleep in the dark, yeah, pitch black night.

Where To Eat:

Originally, we were planning to avail the Meal package in Pansacola Resort, however, they only cater for a group minimum of 10. So we ended up doing our own cooking. :)

We cooked everything before it got dark. We spent 3 hrs cooking all these using the "paypay method"

What To Do's:
There's a lot of things that you can do in the island... ... if the weather is good...

I felt like crying because the rain did not stop yet until we woke up. We have not enjoyed the island yet and that also means that we will be stranded in the island since the boats wont be allowed to go on board.

But as the song goes, "there's a rainbow always after the rain..."

What To See:
There's a lot that you must see in this virgin island.

You can find in Cagbalete Island the largest sand ripples

Go straight and see a bunch of pine trees. Nice!

Going Home:
Important! Since there are only 2 trips from Cagbalete back to Mauban (7:30 am and/or 1:00 pm only), make sure to be there at least 30 mins before. Or else, you need to wait for the next day's trip.

Do you know that aside from Valentines Day, there's this another event in February that a lot of Filipinos are looking forward to?

If you are a balloon enthusiast, I believe you already know what I am talking about. Yes, once again, the air will be filled up with colors and balloons as the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held on February 10-13, 2011. On its 16th year, 27 balloons will participate, celebrating the centennial of the first airplane flight in our country; there will also more kids' activities, more aviation school participation, and new attractions in a larger ground.

How To Get There:
Exact location of the event: Air Force City, Clark Freeport, Angeles City, Pampanga

By Air
There are 3 airlines offering domestic flights to Clark's Diosdado Macapagal International Airport - CebuPacific, Zest Airways, and SeaAir.

By Bus
There are trips to Pampanga on a daily basis. You can either take Philippine Rabbit Liner or Victory Liner. Ride the bus that is bound for Dagupan and alight at the Dau common terminal. From the Dau bus terminal, walk a bit toward the highway. You can see tricycles and jeepneys that can take you to the Clark gate.

By Car
There are 2 routes available. Estimated Travel Time: 1 1/2 hrs.

via NLEX, SCTEX
Take North Luzon Expressway from Manila and continue past Dau Toll Plaza - but do not take Dau Exit. Pull to the right and take the SCTEX on-ramp. From the SCTEX Toll Booth, take the southbound lane to Clark South Exit. You will be entering Clark through the Yokohama Complex. At the stoplight, turn right to Roxas Highway. The Balloon Fiesta will be on your right.

Take North Luzon Expressway from Manila and exit at Dau, Mabalacat. Take a left turn towards Angeles City and make an easy right turn to Clark. After entering the main gate, proceed along Roxas Highway. The Balloon Fiesta will be on your right.

Important:
- make sure to get at the Clark Field before 5 am if you would really like to see how they set up the balloon and how they make it fly. If you arrive later than that, expect that all the balloons are already up in the air (these balloons leave and just go back late afternoon)

-DO NOT BUY YOUR TICKETS at SM TICKETNET. If this will be your first time and you are planning to keep the tickets as souvenirs, buy either in ROX or onsite itself. Tickets in SM Ticketnet looks like your usual concert tickets. Tickets for Hot Air Balloon Fiesta are for Php150.00.

- if you want to ride the balloon, charge is $150/person. It's a first come-first served basis so go directly to the Information Booth to book yourself a ride.
