Chasing the Goose

Elf and the class pet Bee-Bee!

2013-12-09T13:36:00.000-05:00

So the goose was sent home with the class pet yesterday. We had made no plans and did not know what to do with him exactly. I figured that if we were going to have the class pet lets go wild doing cool stuff. First which was already planned we went to the Trans Siberian orchestra concert and left Bee-Bee in the car so that he would not get lost.

We had a blast at the concert. If they come to your area it is a must see.

Luigi and Bee-Bee were playing bobbin' bumblebee's...I set it up on the table the night before took the picture and during the night the dog came by and grabbed bee from the table. The poor little fellow lost an eye and had some puncture wounds in his head. Terrified what the teacher would say when goose brought back the class pet in such condition I quickly found and ordered a new one on Amazon. Note to self never trust your dog.

Along with them playing the game Luigi brought a note with grow your own candy canes. Inside the box I placed rice some snow and glitter and some sixlets the same colors that the candy canes were going to be. Then we planted them make sure you count them before so you know how many you have ahead of time.

THEY WILL REMEMBER HOW MANY SEEDS YOU PLANTED.

I bought two boxes on candy canes. One at a time I broke off little pieces and put the unbroken end in the snow. If I caught him doing something nice they candy canes would grow. Little by little his behavior helped them grow. Today was day four and he woke up to a full sized candy cane. I didn't remove the wrapper and he said mom why does this one have a wrapper?

Damn kid is too smart for his own good!

I think if all the candy canes grew at the same time we would not be motivated by behavior. This way he has to be good over a number of days.

It's great to see a child actually believe that candy canes can grow in plastic snow due to good behavior. Ahhhh to be a child again!

Here is some pictures I forgot to post about the elf. Day two and three!

Check back later this week for more elf ideas and a lesson on the Night Tree by Eva Bunting!

The elf can help learn too!

2013-12-06T08:44:00.001-05:00

Here is Luigi helping Gooser practice his sight words and brought him a special elf pancake breakfast.

{Please note I did change the site name then changed it back}

Luigi left Gooser elf pancake mix and a note with his sight words from the list he obtained from school.

The mini elf pancakes...I just dropped small little drops through a pastry bag and sprinkled them with sprinkles. He was able to eat these after he found and read all the sight words correctly. Which he did!!!!

"Luigi" waiting in the ice box!

2013-12-04T22:58:00.003-05:00

Here is Luigi the elf on the shelf waiting for Gooser to come home with a good report from Kindergarten. Luigi is waiting in the ice box with fudge brownie ice cream and rainbow sprinkles. I made the scarf from a ripped bow and the ear muffs from a paper clip and the rest of the bow cut in circles. then taped on as well as the mittens.

Check back soon for more elf on a shelf ideas everyday this week.

Seuss Week!

2013-03-05T20:41:00.001-05:00

Happy Seuss-tastical Week!

We started homeschooling this week!

I left my job working with autistic children to stay home and prepare my little Gooser for Kindergarten and it's the perfect time to do some bonding before he heads on the the big kids school bus in a couple short months! Where has the time gone?

I know from his previous schoolwork that he needed help with writing. So we started there. He was not that excited about this.

We then did some math. I got this great puzzle at the dollar store. He told me he can count to 10 so why does he need to count to 7 and 3 if he knows how to count to 10? Ahhh smarty pants kids!

One of the best and "funnest" activities we have. Muffin Tin Lunch! I have been so far out of the game with this I forgot how to be creative. Plus I only had about 2 day to prepare which is NOTHING! I need at least a week of sketches and planning. ;-)

We did a LORAX Lunch!

Grickle Grass- lettuce and ranch

Lorax Mustache Milk

Truffla Trees- cotton candy on straws

Lorax- Cheese sandwich with candy eyes

Truffla seeds - nerds

Carrots and dip (they were orange)

Humming fish- goldfish crackers

Next week's 50's theme is already in sketch form!

Check out the other creative lunches at www.anotherlunch.com

2 Teaching Mommies had these great printables for the Lorax theme.

Truffla tree size match up

Lorax Spelling letter match

We were at the grocery store after I printed these and thought CHEEZIT!

They are the perfect size for this print out!

Truffla Tree Mazes

Gold Fish Graphing

(alot of goldfish were consumed while we completed this project)

Goose is really into helping in the kitchen.

He helped me make his cheese sandwich.

GROWING CRYSTALS!

What little boy doesn't love SCIENCE?

He is obssessed with anything science. I found these great kits again at the dollar store (Dollar Tree). You make these crystals grow by placing them in water for an hour or so even though they say in minutes you will have crystals. ha ha ha. He enjoyed playing with them and they are non toxic and squshy when done forming.

Until next time have a Seuss-y week!

Yankee's inspired Muffin Tin Monday

2010-06-29T13:38:00.001-04:00

We went to the Yankee's farm team last weekend and I thought that would be a great tin for the Goose. Funny thing is that the tickets were 10.00 for all three of us and the food, drinks and one beer for hubby was 39.00. Funny part is that I put this tin together for about 4.00!!!

Of course there is Hotdogs, a baseball and the tickets, cracker jacks, peanuts, milk and a pretzel.

Frog Life Cycle Muffin Tin Monday

2010-06-14T01:56:00.001-04:00

Thanks for Hopping on over to Chasing the Goose! I have not done a Muffin Tin Monday in 2 MONTHS!!! What have I been doing....working, taking care of my Goose and I started Grad School and I am so excited about it. WOOOO HOOOO!

So I work in a school and we had an end of the year field trip to a park and guess what I brought home yupers...tadpoles. I have 5 of them and we have been feeding them and watching them grow over the last week. One of them has their legs developed and the other ones are starting to get leg buds.

For the "tin" which don't hate me because this is not really a muffin tin lunch at all but how could I resist the water placemat.

1. Waterplace Mat with a lily pad and hot dog and celery cattails with french onion dip and cheese flower.

2 Frog eggs marshmellows with mini chocolate chips

3. Tadpoles chocolate sauce and a couple gold fish for dipping

4. Apple and carrot Red Eyed Tree Frog. I like him! Goose didn't want to eat him--just make him hop which was kinda funny. I took a bite of his "head" and Goose started screaming

"NO more mom hop froggy hop!"

Then we made frog egg pops 2 kewi's, cup of juice and 2tbs of sugar or honey in the blender and then pour it into paper cups and stick a spoon in it or stick and freeze.

Enjoy!!!

Here is some extra printables:

YEL*LOW Muffin Tin Monday!!!!

2010-03-08T22:02:00.004-05:00

After a VERY stressful day at work ... no heat, fighting students and the usually Monday mayham that comes with working in a special needs class I was so tired. I came home from work took an asprin for the pounding headache and popped in a BLUES CLUES video and closed my eyes. Ahhh the joy that 22 minutes of piece and quiet brings. Then it was off to make Muffin Tin Monday.

It is so hard for me to think of such an easy theme, I was wandering around the grocery store trying to find stuff that was YELLOW and most importantly something that the Goose would eat. I knew that I wanted "peeps" and yogurt, the rest just followed. Here's my tin.

1: Milk in a yellow duck cup.
2: Yellow Peeps and golden rasins
3: Hard boiled eggs cut up in quarters ( which he put the whole thing in his mouth at once perhaps next time I will do eights. LOL
4: Golden Fish Filet--yes my son loves fish!!! Too funny Mommy and Daddy don't!
5: Vanilla yogurt which was white and then I added a couple drops of food dye and presto YELLOW! I also got this cute spoon and fork set with different colors it was on clearance at the grocery store. Yah me!
6: Apple Slices

My Goose with yellow flowers that we bought at the store.

Painting with one of those water paint books--I never thought they were as clean as they are. The water color paint books make a mess all over everything but these books are really easy to clean up. I MUST add more to our art station.

Dr Seuss-- Muffin Tin Monday

2010-01-31T19:05:00.014-05:00

Well alot of planning went into this muffin tin monday. Mostly at work on my lunch breaks last week.

My predrawing that I do at work--they think I am crazy but, I would rather be crazy then boring! LOL I had two back up ideas if two of them didn't work out. The Ten apples on top and the Tooth book!

I used 6 different and favorite books from Dr. Seuss.

1. "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish-- used colored goldfish.

2. The Lorax--Used three pretzel rods and some cotton candy.

3 The Cat in the Hat--Cut hat pieces out of apples and peeled the apples to form the stripes.

4. Horton Hears a Who-- used a uncrustables pb&j sandwich some chocolate frosting in a piped bag and a little cotton candy for the "who".

5. Green eggs and Ham-- Cooked egg whites, peas and a tortilla cut like the shape of a ham and dyed green with food coloring.

6.The Grinch who stole Christmas-- pink yougurt in a heart cup for the heart that grew bigger and a pretzel rod for the ten foot pole.

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!!!

Muffin Tin Monday --CHRISTMAS MORNING

2009-12-06T21:48:00.007-05:00

We really enjoyed this Muffin Tin Monday...I made Brayden's "Christmas Morning" dinner and Dad made omelets for us. WIN WIN!

I made his breakfast with eggs in a nest but I used a gingerbread cookie cutter instead of ripping a hole in the bread. These are my favorite way to have eggs too! :) I cut up "extra" (other wise go as it didn't go as planned)bread reindeer, snowmen and a christmas tree and placed them with marshmellows. He also had peaches, bacon and a cupcake snowman that we bought at the store this morning for 2.99...ONLY for muffin tin monday! I could have made a dozen for that price but my little goosey is so spoiled! Then he had what was my favorite looking thing on the tray chocolate milk with whipped cream and snowflakes. He hate hot chocolate...go figure! I bought the snowflakes at Rite Aid for 1.99 for about 100 of them to a bag. I figured I would do something with them. Hope you enjoy and I can't wait for next weeks theme. Christmas Stories

Super Easy Advent Tree

2009-11-29T21:50:00.008-05:00

A house can never have too many trees! I finshed this wonderful tree in no time. I have been buying little toys and treats for a couple of weeks now and stockpiling them, hidden from my 2 year old son of course. I bought all of these wonderful boxes at the dollar store. What a find 4 for a dollar!!! Then I just filled them and took extra ribbon from around the house that I found and attached it on the handles with numbers. Every night we plan on reading the passages below with our son and making this one of our new traditions in our home. I hope you will do the same.

Supplies:

24 boxes or tiny bags

24 numbers I looked and looked for them on the internet and decided to just use word to make my own they are fancy enough. :)

12 feet of ribbon

Tree + decorations

24 goodies, I used Matchbox cars, candies, soap, chapstick, any kinda tiny stocking stuffer.

Changes of the season walk

2009-10-13T16:40:00.005-04:00

Over the last couple weeks we have been going on walks where I have the Goose pick up a leaf or two. I thought this idea was great to show how the leaves have been changing. We live in Pa and the leaves are so colorful in the fall, it is one of my favorite times of year.

First we gathered leaves over the last couple of weeks. I put them in a cookbook to dry and flatten them.

I then numbered the leaves just incase some would be close in color.

Putting them all together and seeing the changes in the leaves thoughtout the season.
