First and foremost among those reasons would be the great pay. Did you realize that most truckers, their first year out on the road, earn an average of $40,000 a year? And, that after just a few years out, those same truckers are making an average of $55,000 - $60,000 annually? And finally, veteran drivers who own their own trucks make average salaries that are over $100,000 a year. What other profession can you get in to, where the pay is that good?

One other great reason to get into trucking is the chance to see some of this great country of ours. How many states have you been to? Are you one of those people who haven't been very many places? Well, get into trucking and you will have the opportunity to explore America. See why most people consider this to be not only the greatest country in the world, but also the most beautiful one as well. What other country has sights like The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, New England in the fall, and so much more? Want to explore America? Become a trucker.

You and your fellow truckers know that you are doing a job that is vital for the U.S. Economy. For without trucking, we would be in a heap of trouble. If you bought it a truck brought it..! Do you have any idea how many products that you use, that are delivered by truck? So think about something that you use (car; food; pharmaceuticals; etc.) all delivered at some point by Truck.

If you're the type who likes to be home quite a bit, there are truck driving jobs where drivers are home every weekend, and in some cases, there are trucking jobs where the drivers are home every night. It must be noted though, that some of those jobs don't pay as well as the long haul jobs do. Local drivers earn an average annual wage of $35,000.00 to $48,000.00 however local wages are predicted to rise over the next 2 or 3 years due to an aging driver pool.

If you think that Trucking is for you, the first step is to enter the Commercial Truck Driving Program at Chattahoochee Technical College located at the North Metro Campus. The Commercial Truck Driving Certificate Program is highly respected by all U.S. trucking companies. The career opportunities for professional truck drivers number in the thousands. The time could not be better than now to choose a career as Pro Trucker. Chattahoochee Technical College can help you find a great truck driving career in the region of the country where you wish to live. We do not guarantee employment however we have a long list of Trucking Firms seeking drivers who graduate from Chattahoochee Technical College…! Get started now...you can be on the road soon making a positive difference and earning a salary you can be proud of.

For more information please contact Ray Puckett.

Blood Drive Monday, January 30

Chattahoochee Tech - Marietta Campus
WINTER BLOOD DRIVE
Sponsored by Campus Life

Monday, January 30, 2012
9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Just look for the Red Cross Bloodmobile

To schedule an appointment to donate, please sign up in the Campus Life Office or e-mail cmattox@chattahoocheetech.edu.

All participants will receive a t-shirt and will be entered to win one of three pairs of Delta Airlines tickets!

View Event Flyer

Basic Life Support & Heartsaver First Aid

Date of classes January 19, 2012

Seats are Limited!! We all have kids and know kids in the right age group (under 31) and with some effort they could reach a salary of over $100,000 with benefits in about 3 years! You need only a high school diploma to apply and credit is given for college on the exam.

http://www.faa.gov/jobs/job_opportunities/airtraffic_controllers - Fill out the application immediately - even if they don't know if they'd want to attend immediately - it's the federal government and it may take them months to call. The key is to apply NOW... There will be a lot of retirements coming up rather quickly and they need to line up training to accommodate these openings. It's my understanding that the FAA rarely has an open application such as this and that the jobs are coveted.

This is a great opportunity and it should be noted that choosing a site like Anchorage or Indianapolis to train is a likely acceptance into the training program - after which you can transfer anywhere in the country that has a tower. I hope you pass this information on to family & friends.

Pedestrian Safety Project at CTC

This summer Chattahoochee Technical College (CTC) students can expect to see construction activity on the CTC Marietta Campus near the intersection of Beech Road and South Cobb Drive. Catie Wilkins was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a brain tumor, on her first birthday, Sep. 26, 2003, Catie endured 11 surgeries, 36 months of chemotherapy, and 30 radiation treatments. The little girl fought hard. Catie was 4 years old when she died Jan. 19, 2007.

One of Catie's favorite possessions was her Elf. His name was Jingle, but Catie always called him "that Silly Old Elf."

Every night during the holidays, while the kids are asleep, elf gets into some type of mischief. Think of knocking books off a shelf or pulling down garland.

He also keeps an eye on the kids and updates Santa with reports of their nice or naughty behavior.

Each morning while Catie's Elf was visiting, the first words out of her mouth were "what did that Silly Elf do now?"

Today, almost four years since Catie's death, elves are given to pediatric cancer patients in hospitals nationwide and over $10,000 has been raised to cure childhood cancer.

For more information, visit www.elvesfromcatie.com.

The Christian Fellowship Club wants your help in our fund-raising for this important cause. We will be offering hotdogs, chips, and a drink in the Atrium from 11:00 to 1 PM

December 1 and 2

Regular Dog Plate (includes chips/drink)............. $2.25

Polish Dog Plate (includes chips/drink)............... $3.25

Xtra Regular Dog $1.25 Xtra Polish Dog $2.25

DONATIONS WELCOME

Austell Campus - Also presented to students are free workshops meant to enhance students’ lives both in and out of school.

“On a regular basis, CTC hosts free 30 minute workshops designed to empower students in developing strategies to achieve academic and career success,” said Dianne Barker, special populations coordinator at Chattahoochee Technical College. “We cover various topics in academic enhancement, personal development and career exploration.”

Ranging from test taking skills to finding ways to finance a business venture, the workshops are offered at CTC’s seven campuses. One of the most popular and most requested topics, according to Barker is child development. That is why CTC invited Kennesaw State University Early Childhood Education Professor Dr. Raynice Jean-Sigur to speak with students about just that topic.

Jean-Sigur’s program, entitled From 0-8 in 60 Seconds: How to Keep Pace with Your Growing Child, was designed to teach students about children from birth to age 8. According to theorists, Jean-Sigur told the audience, much of a person’s brain development occurs before someone is 3 years old.

“As caregivers of young children we hold many different jobs,” she said. “These jobs can be without financial incentive. However, the reward comes when we witness our children grow into healthy individuals.”

Upcoming Free Workshops include:

North Metro Campus: Wednesday Workshops Room 117

May 19 Stress Management – Cheri Mattox, CTC

May 26 WIN, WIN”: Strategies for Reducing Conflict– Dr. Betty Ann Cook, CTC

June 9 Financing Your Business – Jennifer Walters, Credit Union of GA

Appalachian Campus: Thursday Hot Topics Room 318

May 20 Financing Your Business – Jennifer Walters, Credit Union of GA

June 10 WIN, WIN”: Strategies for Reducing Conflict– Dr. Betty Ann Cook, CTC

International Festival Highlights Cultural Diversity at CTC

Chattahoochee Technical College’s Marietta Campus might be in the middle of Cobb County, but on Tuesday, May 18, the Atrium will be transformed into a window of countries around the world. Since 2002, the college has held a yearly festival to celebrate and highlight the cultural diversity found among its student population. This year’s festival is free and open to the public.

“In our quest to help our students become global citizens, it’s an important concept for our students to understand the diversity in the world around them,” said Greg Moor, International Services and International Center Coordinator at Chattahoochee Technical College. “A big part of that is making sure students know that it is good to be understanding and tolerant of other cultures through exposure and experiences like this. The festival helps bring that message home.”

The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and feature performers, international food and other exhibits. Among the entertainment expected to be on presented are a Mariachi band, Thai dancers, African drummer and a belly dancer. Visitors will also be able to sample food from Australia, China, the Mediterranean, Mexico, Jamaica and Nigeria. Also available will be Henna Art from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We will have more diverse food samples from around the world this year,” Moor said. “We always offer something the festival visitor can take with them; this year for the first time we will have Henna Art – a form of body art drawn on the body by eucalyptus ink.”

With the largest and most diverse population of international students of any of Georgia’s 28 technical colleges, Chattahoochee Technical College currently enrolls more than 1,500 foreign born students, representing more than 80 countries. It is currently the only technical college in Georgia with an international center.

The International Center provides services that support the college’s non-immigrant, international, permanent resident, exchange, and foreign-born student population. It provides pre-admission to post-graduation assistance. Programs that support the international community and international initiatives are directed through the International Center/International Services.

For more information about the International Center at Chattahoochee Technical College, call 770-528-5804 or 770-528-4528.

Fun, Food, and Events and Chattahoochee Tech Campuses

Be on your campus for food, a DJ, and prizes!

Check to see when the event is at your campus at 12pm and 5pm:

Woodstock Campus - May 3

Appalachian Campus - May 4

Appalachian Campus - May 5

Mountain View Campus - May 6

Paulding Campus - May 10

North Metro Campus - May 11

Marietta Campus - May 12
