OK so I lied when I said I'm going to be updating more often. School has started and I also had to create another blog for my communications class. But trust me...all the fashion is still here folks. Anyways...MTV's "reality" show the City premiered this and since the beginning of season 1 of the show I have always admired cast member/New York socialite Olivia Palermo's style. She is the true definition of New York chic not to mention she has model good looks to go with it. *insert jealousy* But she is DEFINITELY someone who you guys would want to watch out for as far as a GREAT and unique sense of style. Zoe Saldana- Vanity Fair

Zoe Saldana [actress from the recent Star-Trek movie] did a photo spread in Vanity Fair recently and she looks verrry faaancy. It's an old-Hollywood Harlem Nights types of theme and the fashion is definitely on point! CHANEL Cruise 09/10 RTW

Ahhh....who else would hold a fashion show with models walking down a boardwalk runway on the beautiful Venice Beach....and NO not Venice Beach, CA but LIDO BEACH in Venice, Italy?! None other than KARL LARGERFELD for Chanel's Cruise 2009/10 Ready-to-Wear fashion show. The beach, the models, and sunset all complemented each other perfectly! Whoever predicted the weather forecast for that day was on point! The collection was mostly solid black, white, navy with some nautical insipired looks with some looks made of silk embroidered with the infamous Chanel logo all over. And if I am not mistaken the model pictured above is Karl Lagerfeld's new muse and his name is Baptiste Gianconi...sounds pretty hot to me....sounds like some Church too =D

Tim Burton's-Alice in Wonderland

I forgot to post these pics accompanying the Jean Paul Gaultier post since some of his looks I mentioned reminds me of the type of 'fashion' we might see in Burton's upcoming version of Alice in Wonderland. The the pics are creepy, but fascinating...like some weird are you can't take your eyes off lol. BIG fan of Tim Burton's movies...can't wait for the movie! =)

Rihanna- Inglourious Basterds Premiere

Here is Rihanna at the premiere in an Alexander McQueen pre-fall jumpsuit decked out in pearls, lacey finger gloves, and Maison Martin Margiela black boots. Her hair along with the black outfit and pearls gives off that modern day Cruella Devile (sp?) meets Co-Co Chanel. Make-up is flawless. She looks regal yet very rock-n-roll!

Jean Paul Gautier has taken us back to the Madonna days....the days with her performing on stage with her infamous cone-shaped corsets...his collection was a mix of the Queen of pop era with a little bit of Hollywood glam thrown in it. I won't be surprised if you see Lady Gaga in one of these outfits. Also I included a pic of Cameron Diaz at the bottom covering V Magazine. Its different, but its a good look on her! I meant to post it earlier, but hey I killed two birds with one stone today. Hopefully, I can update more often since Paris Fashion Week kicked off and I'll be in the studios all next week with my laptop in front of me the whole time =D [All pics courtesy of NYMAG.com]

Verrry retro! And theres tons of colors especially for the Fall! The broad shoulder details, the hip sunglasses and hairdos remind me of BOY GEORGE/DAVID BOWIE WITH A BIT OF MEETS ROCK-N-ROLL! Some of his looks even looked as if Mother Teresa had a bit of influence! =D

FIDM Debut 09

Yesterday was the FIDM (Fashion Instituite of Design and Merchandising) School Debut 09 Fashion show at the Barkar Hangar tent at the Santa Monica Airport. It is an annual show for under grads and grads of the school to showcase their collection, plus the premiere of Mattel's BARBIE 50th Anniversary "Been Around the World" themed collection. It was a pretty big event with lots and lots of people. My friends and I got pretty good seats close to the end of the runway, but nevertheless I was too short to see the models walk entirely down the runway including the heads of people in front of me bopping to the music which was actually really good and live and the fact that I had to go to the bathroom so bad I swear my bladder was going to explode! We had Nick Varreros, Project Runway Season 2 contestant as the host and Jeane Marshall, the winner of season 5 collection shown, which coincidentally I posted couple entries back when I was featuring the top looks at NY Fashion Week. They were amazing, the color combination between the neutrals, beige, and creams, with the bright turquoise went together very well. The scalloped inspired details on the skirts were really nice too. There was also a dance performance that featured different eras and genres of dance with all the costumes designed by FIDM students and grads. BUT saving the best for last of course, we FINALLY got to see the premiere collections of about I would say 8-10 students and grads from the school. VERY VERY IMPRESSIVE. Most designs were ready-to-wear that had a wide variety of color and intricate details. They included very formal gowns, trench coats, summer dresses, cocktail dresses, blouses, and everything else a fashionista or fashionistos? would want in his or her closet. There was even one female designer that show cased an all male show which of course the audience of mostly teenage girls loved. One of the grads even got a standing ovation for his collection which included very elegant and amazing looking gowns you definitely can see on a OSCAR DE LA RENTA show. I believe his name was Clay. Another designer even had the broad extended "space" shouldered designs which was very reminiscent of MARC JACOB'S FALL 09 LINE. HEY! GREAT MINDS THINK A LIKE. And for the finale, it showed MATTEL'S BARBIE collection with models wearing designs inspired by a special event from different parts of the world including London, Asia, Paris, and Malibu. IT WAS LOVELY! Overall it was a great show, a little bit more entertaining than your average high-end runway shows sans the paparazzi and fashion photographers and the end of the runway, but it did stick to the traditional fashion type of show AND it was really amazing to see young and raw talent show off their 'art' and hard work for others to admire and be inspired. There is absolutely more to say and describe about the collections, but I don't want to bore you with words because it really was more amazing when you get to see it in person! Not to mention I got to break into my D&G pumps last night and got some very nice compliments on them =P

09 Oscars Weekend: Best and Worst Looks

Here is my list for best and worst dressed at the Academy Awards tonight since I won't be able to post anything tomorrow.

TWO OF MY FAVORITE AND BEST LOOKS GO TO SARAH JESSICA PARKER AND MILEY CYRUS. ALL I CAN SAY IS WOOOOW!

Miley Cryus in Zuhair Murad. GOOOORGEOUS!!! PRAISE THE LORD! check out the mermaid-esque detail! Although I thought the dress was PHENOMENAL I think it would of been out of the ball park if a slightly older actress wore it, but hey Miley nabbed it!

SJP in this 'off-mint' as she called it Dior Haute Couture ballerina gown. Definitely her signature look with the ballerina influence! Dress, hair, accesories, make-up=A++++++++ to inifinity

Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent. The best actress winner definitely illuminated the red carpet with this one shouldered metal grey gown.

Best dressed and looking couple (of course) Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (in Eli Saab.) She does tend to go for the simple look, but it always fits her best, but those emerald earrings are gorgeous! It really did pop!

Daniel Craig. H-O-T. Those piercing eyes!

Alicia Keys looked really nice this this purple gown, but not so sure about her hair color or make-up.

Anne Hathawy in Armani Prive

Halle Berry in Marchesa at the Vanity Fair party. EPITOME OF PERFECTION. What a MILF.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte. The color of her gown is really fresh as well as her make-up and elegant up-do. She really has this natural beauty to her.

Tina Fey in Zac Posen. Old hollywood glam. Veery Nice!

Debra Messing in Jenny Packham. JP's designs are known for its eccentric detailed beading and this one is really beautiful. The green along with Debra's orange hair go great together!

Kate Bosworth in Alexander Mcqueen...very reminiscent of studio 54 disco glam. Flashy, but very classy.

And finally rapper/actress EVE at Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party. The color of the dress and accessories really compliment her skin!

And here are those who just didn't seem to get it right...

Tilda Swinton in Lanvin. NEVER-EVER seem to get it right in any award shows I've seen. Man oh man

Marion Cotillard....NO NO NO...

Heidi Klum in Rolan Mouret. The hair slick back and the material of the dress just doesn't work for me.

Jessica Biel in this cream Prada gown. The gown is NOT flattering at all. The bottom looked like it needs ironing and I did get a close-up of her shoes, they were black pumps which looked like peasant shoes paired up with Prada. *Shakes head*

Beyonce in her own House of Dereon gown. House of DO-ME-WRONG. The dress definitely showed off all of the singer's famous curves but with that many curves, her hair slicked back just made her head look really really small. The gold and yellow just isn't working either.

The Dark Side of Fashion: Catherine Malandrino Fall 09

French born designer Catherine Malandrino showcased her Fall 09 Collection at NY Fashion Week the other day and WOW! STUNNING COLLECTION in my eyes! The details on the dresses and gowns are amazing! Definitely a lot of ready to wear pieces for celebrities on the red carpet and some for us normal folks to get as an investment for those special black tie occasions. Her models looked like they jumped out of an Edgar Allen Poe novel, of course with a more fashion forward twist. It was a very 'dark' collection yet very impressive. Her looks also reminded me of Mrs. Nellie Lovett's character in movie Todd Sweeney: Demon Barber from Fleet Street with the models' pale face and the dark black make-up circling the entire eyes. *Two thumbs up* [All pics courtesy of NYMAG.COM]

NY Fashion Week Madness

So since I couldn't attend NY Fashion Week, I have definitely been keeping up with the shows at NYMAG.COM. Definitely very interesting looks yet at the same time, it seems that black, white and dark toned colors such as PLUM are present in some of the designer's fall 09 collection. However, there still are burst of color here and there just to brighten up the wardrobe. Below are various looks from different designers which are my favorite and most interesting looks to me out of the bunch (in no particular order...just which ever look came first from my albums) They are also part of the Top 100 Runway Looks at NYMAG.COM! Looking Into the Future: DVF Fall 09 Collection

BOY is it pouring today! Diane Von Furstenberg's Fall 09 Collection premiered at NY Fashion Week yesterday and definitely quite the opposite of the Rock Goddess Spring Collection, obviously. Her colors tend to go on the more darker side, but the infamous patterns and prints are still present. Its tons of layering and to me, it has that bit of a grungy/NY hobo look especially the POM POM head pieces worn by the models that look like oversized beanies with oversized coats. Not too much of a fan of this collection, but FAB nonetheless! Here are some of my favorite looks from the runway and pre-fall collection.

Ahh so the sun is out...FINALLY! Its still a bit cool and chilly out there, but boy I still have a couple of shirts I really want to wear in the sun...and since it is such a nice day here is Chanel's Resort Collection for you to check out. Who knew white could be used in so much variation?!

REDEMPTION

Adrienne Bailon and Solange Knowles at Women's Day Red Cross Awards in New York last night. Solange looked nice in her red mini dress and Adrienne looked very CHIC and MUCH BETTER than she did couple of weeks ago with that "bird of the south" feathered dress. Looks like she changed her hair to black and it looks nice, adds a bit softness to her facial features and the dress IS different with the asymetrical drape, but it works quite well. Kudos to her!

Oh! and here is The First Lady graving the cover of Vogue. There's not much of a WOW factor, but predictable for Michelle Obama, I mean she is the First Lady, you have to keep it very CLASSY and SOPHISTICATED. You couldn't really expect her in some haute-couture face painted 'costume' with a VIVA LA VIDA type of backdrop could you?!

GRAMMYS WEEKEND: GLAM OR SHAM?

*Now I know the whole blog sphere and gossip sites are going crazy over the Chris Brown and Rihanna situation, but I don't really want to comment or talk about it on my site, but I do want to say that hope everyne involved is OKAY*

The Grammys was this weekend and although I wasn't really impressed with anyone's outfit during the actual Red Carpet, but people did look quite HOT attending the after-parties and the annaual Clive Davis' famous pre-grammy party.

Grammy Glam

Here is Rihanna at the Clive Davis party giving us a preview of spring in her Gucci maxi gown. She looked really nice. It does add some color to this dull and gloomy weather we've been having in LA. Although her make-up was a little bit off...I'd liked it even better if she had a more 'fun in the sun' bronzey look that would compliment the dress.

Kim Kardashian looked very elegant and regal in this white organza dress. She was on hosting duties for E! News. DRESS, HAIR, MAKE-UP= PERFECTION

Solange in a short yellow BCBG dress. She did look a little to0 simple for the Grammys, but I did like the color on her and her hair and make-up was my favorite.

T.I. (DUH...I just had to ok!) and his girlfriend, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle in a sequinned Herve Ledger dress...not a big fan on the dress, but the rest of her look is nice...looks like shes been working out EXTRA hard in the gym getting back that nickname.

Angela and Vanessa Simmons also arrived in style, Angela looked cute but Vanessa rocked it! She looked great!

Although these celebs did look nice, nothing was too stunning for me to take a second look at...and again...there was more Misses than hits...

Grammy Sham

Jennifer Hudson in Rolan Mouret. It was just too much...especially turned sideways. I liked the fit but other than that...*BUZZER*

Jordan Sparks in a Debra Davenport gown. The silouette looks great on her but the material and design is just off.

Paula Abdul...never really does right in my book. The yellow Vazil Soto (sp?)gown is just too much, the detailing of the gold on the shoulder and the hair pin...NO NO NO

Estelle in this Bernard Chandran "space gladiator" look is just a mess. And her Guiseppes aren't helping...*yikes*

Karl Largerfeld is the head designer at the house of CHANEL premiered his 2009 Fall collection Tuesday at Paris Fashion Week and the head pieces on the models were amazing. Reportedly they are all made of paper...how resourceful!

Even if we are going through some hard times and don't have the funds to actually buy these clothes, at least fashion always provides some form of artwork for us to look at and admire...

Guilty Pleasure

OKAY...so I know it is some rough times going on with the economy and all...and I SWEAR I thought about the recession the whole time I was considering buying these Dolce&Gabbana satin pumps, BUT they were 50% off from the original 415 plus tax price and they had them in MY SIZE...one of only two sizes LEFT! I just had to! I really did! It was meant to be! Definitely very retro chic that can be dressed up or down. Looks great with skinny jeans and a tuxedo blazer OR add UUUMPH to an all black ensemble! =D
