Until last week, I'd never used a prefold.. and to be honest, the idea of them scared me a little bit. So when Thirsties® offered me a Duo Hemp Prefold, and Duo Wrap to review, I wasn't sure what to expect!

When we received the diaper, I washed and dried both parts three times to increase absorbency, then we were ready to get started.

I was really surprised at how easy to use the prefold was! The instructions included were straight forward; you simply fold along the two seams (dividing the prefold into thirds), fan out the back a little, then place it into the Duo Wrap, like shown:

I love how soft and comfortable the prefold feels.. it's made of a custom hemp jersey material (made in the USA), which is 25% more absorbent than a pure cotton prefold would be, and feels just like a soft t-shirt. It's designed in a way that makes for a more thorough wash, and a quicker drying time; it consists of two panels, each panel being only two layers thick.

Most prefolds are 8 layers thick in the middle, can be bulky, difficult to wash thoroughly, and take a long time to dry. I love that it dries so quickly!

The Duo Wrap comes in two sizes; Size 1 (6-18lbs, 0-9 months), and size 2 (18-40lbs, 9-36 months). Each size features adjustable snaps on the front, to ensure an always great fit on your growing baby, and leg gussets for extra protection against leaks. It is available in 8 solid colors, and 4 prints, and with either aplix or snap closures.

I love the way this diaper system fits Casey.. it's not at all bulky, and fits great under his pants.

We've had no problems with leaks.. Casey has worn it over naptime a couple of times, and it hasn't been anywhere near full when he's woken up. I'll generally leave it on him for about 2-3 hours (which is the longest I'll usually leave any diaper on while he's awake), but it could (and has, over naptime) gone longer with no issues.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that Casey was a little irritable and cranky. At first I thought it was the 'terrible twos' making an appearance. Then when he started to object to teeth brushing, I started to wonder if maybe his second molars were coming in. So with a bit of help from Peter, I managed to get a look in his mouth, and sure enough.. swollen gums, with a tooth trying to break through!

Our Inspired by Finn Baltic amber teething necklace arrived just in time!

Inspired by Finn have lots of different styles, colors and sizes to choose from.. the round bead, chip or disc styles, shiny or opaque, and colors from light to dark.. even multi-color.

I chose the disc style, in a size 12.5 - 13 inches.

I was a little worried that the 12.5 - 13 inches would be too short, but it was the perfect length for Casey (22 months). It's not long enough for him to be putting it in his mouth (amber is soft, and could break if chewed on), but not too short that it would bother him by being too close to his neck either. Something to keep in mind when you're choosing your length! Another thing to keep in mind, is that the lighter the color of the amber, the more effective it will be.. I actually didn't realize that when picking one out for Casey.

WHAT IS BALTIC AMBER?
Baltic amber is a fossilized tree resin that has been used for centuries in Europe as a natural remedy and curative for many ailments. When baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin's warmth releases trace amounts of healing oils from the amber. For best results, it should be worn as often as possible, and as close to the site of discomfort as you can get it (wear a necklace for migraine or toothache, or a bracelet for arthritis of the hands).

Cloth Diapers

I've been interested in trying out cloth diapers for a while now.. but with Casey being so old (and close to potty training), I'd decided that rather than spending a load of money for something we might only get a few months use out of, we'd just start with our next baby.
I was very excited to be given the opportunity to try out a Mother-ease cloth diaper. It was just what I needed, to make sure cloth-diapering was for us!

I chose the All-In-One cloth diaper. I figured it would be the easiest to use to start out with, without having to figure out inserts and covers, etc.

We received the diaper last Friday, and I washed and dried it a few times before using it, to increase absorbency. It's very absorbent.. I'll generally leave it on him for about 3 hours, but I have left it on him for 4 and a half hours over naptime, and had no problems with leaks.. it actually seemed like it could hold a lot more fluid. It handles poop well.. we have Casey on stool softeners, and the elasticated legs help hold the poop in great!

I ordered the size large (20-35lbs).. Casey is about 25lbs, and the fit was perfect. The waist and legs are elasticated, and have adjustable snaps. The snaps give you three different sizings to choose from at the legs, and two different sizings at the waist.

The material is so soft on his skin! The inside is made from a very soft terry, which I love.. and the outer part is a soft waterproof polyester. It actually doesn't look or feel like a waterproof material.. and I didn't believe it was until we tried it out. I was expecting it to feel plasticy, but it wasn't at all.

Washing and drying is easier than I thought it would be. I use a very small amount of regular detergent and wash on cold.. then run through again with no detergent on hot. I have air dried outside, and have used the dryer, and it comes out of the dryer so soft and fluffy! I have noticed that it takes a while to dry.. but I assume that is because of it's absorbency. We have only been using the diaper for a week, but as of right now, we have had no problems with smells or stains.

As this is our first cloth diaper, I don't have much to compare it to, besides disposables.. but I have absolutely no complaints! It was as easy to use as a disposable diaper.. perfect if you're new to cloth diapers, like me.. to keep in the diaper bag for quick changes, or to have on hand for grandparents and babysitters! I can definitely say it has convinced me to give cloth diapering a try!

Toddler Talk Thursdays!

I came across this blog-hop and thought it looked like a fun way to meet other moms of toddlers!
Casey is 21 months old, and his favorite foods vary from week to week.
His current favorites are;
1. Strawberries. His favorite lunch / snack food right now.. he can't get enough of them! He can literally go through 1lb of strawberries in two days, which is craziness.
2. Broccoli. Seriously. This is actually a long term favorite, and something I know he'll always eat. It has to be cooked very soft, and he can eat it by itself.
3. Pizza. No surprise there, right? He likes pepperoni and mushroom, or pepperoni and pineapple.. no cheese.
His least favorite foods are;
1. Eggs. No matter how they're cooked.. scrambled, hard boiled, omelettes, with cheese, without cheese, it doesn't matter.. he wont eat them.
2. Fish. Like with eggs.. it doesn't matter what kind of fish, or how it's cooked, he will.not.eat.it. Not even tuna sandwiches.
3. Pasta. I think it's the texture he doesn't like.. but ever since he was old enough to eat solid food, he hasn't liked it. The few times I've dared to offer it, it's ended up all over the floor.

A Chocolate Cheerios Review & Giveaway!

As you can probably guess from the blog title, Casey is a big fan of Cheerios. They're the one thing I can always get him to eat.. even when he's going through a picky stage.. which is often lately. So I was very excited to be given the opportunity to host a Cheerios review and giveaway on my blog!

General Mills sent us the following prize pack, which included ; A box of Chocolate Cheerios, a cereal bowl, and a chocolate spa pack including ; a bar of chocolate soap (no, you can't eat it unfortunately, but it smells good), chocolate bath salts, chocolate body wash and a bath puff.

Since Casey loves Cheerios, and loves chocolate, we knew he was going to love the new Chocolate Cheerios! Well, we were right.. they received the famous 'mmmmm', and they quickly became his breakfast / snack of choice. He often has dry Cheerios as a to-go (or at home) snack.. so we do a mix of plain Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios and Chocolate Cheerios.. you can even add little pretzels, raisins!
I don't usually eat cereal, but I tried some too, with the new cereal bowl.. and went back for seconds - yum!

With all the goodness of Cheerios, plus a great chocolatey flavor.. what is not to love?!
100 calories per serving, low fat, saturated fat free, cholesterol free, a good source of calcium and vitamin D, and made with whole grain and real cocoa!
