Knicks City Dancers - Semi Finals

Hundreds of dancers showed up at Madison Square Garden to show their stuff
and try to land a spot on the 2009-2010 Knicks City Dancers yesterday.
Only a few dozen were chosen to move to the semi-finalist round and they
will be dancing their hardest today. Check out these interviews and

The Knicks City Dancers are officially holding open auditions for anyone that has what it takes to rock the floor at Madison Square Garden. Courtney Galiano, former Knicks City Dancer and “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant, will be sitting next to Shane Sparks, choreographer and judge on “SYTYCD” at the auditions. Your Help Needed: FIU Losing Cheer Squad

Dear FIU Friends, Families, Coaches, Faculty and Fans,

The FIU cheerleaders have continued to be leaders and contributors to the vision of FIU athletics. The cheerleaders have attended games, pep rallies, and other FIU events to support our university. As of Monday June 22, 2009, This FIU beacon of spirit no longer exists. We are asking you, the supporters of FIU, to please raise your voice and show how much the FIU cheerleaders mean to you.

This past year, the FIU cheerleaders ranked 4th in a National Competition. We competed against big time school such as Maryland, Clemson and Louisville. We practice extremely hard and put our blood, sweat and tears into everything we do. In 1998 the FIU cheerleaders won the National Cheerleading competition, and we were already working hard to do the same this year. In reality, we do not need to begin practicing until football begins to cheer at the games, however we had already taken the initiative to start 3 weeks ago to be that much better. We want to be great representatives of the school and work year round to do so. We practice on top of Football games, Men's Basketball games, Women's basketball games and do many FIU appearances.

A lot of time FIU gets the reputation of a commuter school with not a lot of on campus involvement. The FIU cheerleaders are exceptions to this rule. They want be involved in FIU and make this school better. Please show your support for the effort and hard work they put in to the school. College Scholarships for Bases

Hi, I am a senior in highschool, and want to cheer in college. I have only been a base though...so will probably only be looking for an all girl squad. I am trying to find the schools with the best scholarship programs for bases. I have good tumbling and baseing skills. My grade point average is a 3.2. Can anyone help with colleges out there that offer scholarships for bases. Thanks,

CheerCrowd.com the New Facebook for Cheerleading

Launched in February 2009, CheerCrowd.com was designed to give cheerleaders a place to interact online with fellow cheerleaders, fans, recruiters, coaches, choreographers, and parents. Nick Ferguson, one of the founders of CheerCrowd.com, came up with the concept while he was training aspiring cheerleaders in a gym. He realized the need for this online cheerleading community when he noticed the close involvement of the parents with the kids. He believed this site would allow parents to stay involved with their kids cheerleading programs while giving the opportunity as well for the cheerleaders to stay in contact with each other off the mat. As cheerleaders progress through their academic and professional careers, our site will allow them to always stay connected. Coaches and recruiters will benefit from a constant influx of new talent joining our site.

Since its inception in 2007, CheerCrowd.com not only gained popularity among our potential users, but proves to continue to show the promise that Cheercrowd.com will be the premier networking site for all aspects of cheerleading.

This Week's Featured Squad: ISU Cyclones

This week's featured squad is the Iowa State University Cyclones. ISU has a long tradition of excellence and strong collegiate cheerleading experience. The squad is divided into a Coed and All-Girl squad, and both squads practice 3 times a week for two and a half hours. Both Squads also cheer for Football, Volleyball, and Men's basketball. Other perks include scholarships and stipends available to everyone but first-year members.

University of Idaho Cheerleading Uniforms - Inappropriate?

So there has been quite a bit of buzz lately about the Unviersity of Idaho cheerleaders. "Idaho?" you say? Yes, Idaho. Apparently there actually is more than just potatoes up there.

So what's going on? It seems that several fans have complained that the uniforms donned by the Idaho Spirit Squad are just a little too much for them to handle. It seems that the fans were taken a little off guard when the new cheerleading uniforms were revealed on September 6:

"Jaws dropped at the Vandal football game on Sept. 6, and it wasn’t because the football team finally won a game. It was because of the dress of the cheerleaders. There was an uproar about the taste level of the Vandal spirit squad’s uniforms with laced-up details and low cut halter-tops that didn’t seem to provide much support."

Wow. They seem pretty shaken up about it. It's not every day that cheer uniforms create such an uproar that it gets national attention, so this definitely warrants more investigation.

Check out the images below and see for yourself. Do you think they cross the line? Me - I'm not sooo sure that they are inappropriate. A little skimpy, but inappropriate? Nah.

So what actually is inappropriate? Well, great question. I've taken it upon myself to drum up some varying examples of what is DEFINITELY inappropriate. Feel free to use this scale to measure the inappropriateness of cheerleader uniforms, free of charge.

Benefit for Western Kentucky Cheerleaders Injured in Car Crash

BT Webb and Kent Madison, cheerleaders for Western Kentucky University, were substantially injured in a car crash May 3rd. Unfortunately, the injuries were life altering. Webb was paralyzed from the neck down and Madison from the waist down. Bowling Green High School has offered to help raise funds for costly medical bills to help ease the burden of hospital care.

Working with the Bowling Green High School cheerleaders, Western Kentucky University Cheer Coach Tom Jones is holding a cheerleading clinic at 5:30 PM on July 21st. Entry fee is $30, and is going to a great cause.

Tryout: Virginia Tech Cheerleading

Virgina Tech has announced their Fall Tryout date, to be held August 26 from 7:00-9:00 PM and August 27 from 7:00-8:00 PM. Tryouts take place in the Rector Field House.

Tryout requirements are listed below, and seem pretty typical. One thing that is pretty interesting is the focus on motion technique. I can't remember the last time that I saw motions as a part of tryouts, but hey, if that's what they want, make sure you prepare!
