LifeWay has some of the best tech support around, so it was exciting to see the Cheese Weasel leave a few “thank you”s around the building! A few of the folks the Cheese Weasel stopped by to see before continuing on was

• Our in-house “Help Desk” …because when you call to see if they can help speed up your computer, they never suggest that the problem could be that you’ve dropped it or that scotch-tape is holding part of the screen on…

• Our development team  …who who make magic computer-y things appear out of thin air. For example, they did a GREAT job on www.churchplanterassessment.com (shameless plug for one of my projects)!

• Our executive team tech support members who make sure the “big cheeses” have great technology support…(see what I did there…big cheese…cheese weasel day…)
• Our LifeWay.com team…getting the word out online about the good stuff happening here @LifeWay and in the churches we serve….

• And creative artsy techy types who make magic happen on blogs across the company!

The Cheese Weasel Came!

It’s finally here, Cheese Weasel Day 2012!

This year has already been a good one, people are posting pictures of the cheesy goodness the Cheese Weasel left them underneath their mouse pads.

The CW leaves cheese to good techies, so if he visited you, you are to be congratulated (not to mention thanked) for all you do to help people! If you were visited by the CW, post your picture and tag it with #cheeseweaselday We’ll do our best to RT and share your good fortune with others!

This year we would also like to say thanks to the corporations who have chosen to participate in Cheese Weasel Day and say thanks to their techies! So often in  companies techies never hear from people until they are unhappy or having a problem. CWD is a time to build relationships between staff and IT. It’s a good way to show your company recognizes the contributions of the people who keep things running behind the scenes.

Also, there is something to be said for companies who don’t take themselves so seriously that they can’t have a little fun! Here are some companies who let us know they are down with the Cheese Weasel Day festivities.

April 3rd is Cheese Weasel Day (CWD) and is the only Internet holiday. A quick web search shows CWD started around 1993. CWD is traditionally celebrated as a fun day dedicated to appreciating people who work in the tech industry.  Legend has it (and the internet has many legends) that the Cheese Weasel travels the world on April 3rd, leaving a bit of cheese under keyboards or mouse pads of good techie boys and girls

Here are a few ways you can celebrate Cheese Weasel Day 2012:

• Arrange secretly for a slice of cheese to be placed under the mouse pad of a tech person you know and appreciate.
• Plan a Cheese Weasel Day party with all the trimmings.  Melt fondue, make grilled cheese sandwiches, eat nachos, anything cheesy works.
• Send a link to the Cheese Weasel Song and learn it so you can use it at your own CWD celebration.
• Give your favorite tech person a Thank You shout out on Twitter using the hash tags #cheeseweaselday

I mean, look at that guy, he’s got “Cheese Weasel” written all over him! Get the official “Cheese Weasel Day” tee! Ferret out your bad fashion and gird your loins with the weasel. It’s the perfect thing to wear to a CWD party! And there is no better gift for the techie in your life…okay, an iPad would be better, but who has that kind of cash? Go with the t-shirt!

It doesn’t cost anything to say thanks to your favorite technical worker. But if you have any cheese in the house you can use it to express your “grate-fulness” to them too.

3. Arrange secretly for a slice of cheese to be placed under the mouse pad of a tech person you know. [Check back in a few days to make sure they found the Cheese. Just to be sanitary. I mean, if they don't know about it and leave it there indefinitely, it could start to smell like Limburger.]
4. Go here and learn the Cheese Weasel Song so you can sing it at your own Weasel celebration.
5. Write a blog post. Help spread the word about Cheese Weasel Day by writing on your blog.
6. Take a picture of your Cheese Weasel Day party and upload it on the CWD Facebook page
7. Plan a Cheese Weasel Day party. It’s fun! A fondue party, make grilled cheese sandwiches, nachos, or Cheetos on the house!
8. Get the official “Cheese Weasel Day” tee! Ferret out your bad fashion and gird your loins with the weasel. It’s the perfect thing to wear to a CWD party!

Get in Touch With You Inner Cheese Weasel

First, you can slip some cheese under the mouse pad of your friends. We have created Cheese Weasel Day print-and-fold cards. Just print them up, write a personal message, put in a slice of cheese, and slip it under their mouse pad.

Second send them the Cheese Weasel Song. You can go traditional, send a CWD Rap, or try this bluesy rendition on video. Pick one that suits their taste in cheesy music.

It’s confirmed! You can meet “Cheezie” the Watonga Cheese Festival mouse at the Cheese Weasel Day Reception in Oklahoma City Saturday, April 3rd at Vintage timeless Coffee.
