Two days after Ten Hag’s exit, United displayed the cutting edge so often lacking under the Dutchman with Brazil midfielder Casemiro scoring two of the team’s first-half goals — one a curling strike into the top corner from 30 meters.

Akanji was injured in the warmup and didn’t start the game, while Savinho hurt his ankle and was in tears as he was carried off the field on a stretcher in the 63rd minute. City are already without Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jérémy Doku and Jack Grealish because of injuries.

Tottenham also sustained injuries to Micky van de Ven and Werner.

Liverpool continued their title defence with a 3-2 win over Brighton that was sparked by a double from Cody Gakpo.

The Netherlands international scored in the 46th and 63rd minutes at Amex Stadium, while Luis Díaz added a third in the 85th after Brighton had pulled a goal back through Simon Adingra.

Liverpool held on after Tariq Lamptey scored Brighton’s second goal in the 90th and will need to make another trip to the south coast in the last eight to play Southampton.

It was confirmed last week that the Blues will build up to next season with a tour stateside for a third consecutive year and as they did in 2023, they will take on Wrexham in one of the games.

Club America are the other opponents confirmed so far. The Mexican side, who are their nation’s most successful club, have three times previously been the opposition in games during Chelsea’s pre-season visits to the States.

Chelsea chief executive Chris Jurasek said: ‘It is great to be playing Wrexham once again, following the success of last year’s encounter in Chapel Hill. We look forward to playing in front of our loyal supporters based in California at the Levi’s Stadium, which is sure to create a wonderful atmosphere.

‘We are also really excited to be returning to Atlanta this summer as part of our pre-season tour.
The 2024-2025 Premier League fixture list is out, and while every team will face all...

The 2024-2025 Premier League fixture list is out, and while every team will face all others twice over the 10-month season, the opening fixtures can make or break a team’s momentum. We’ve analyzed each Premier League club’s first five matches based on last season’s final standings and assigned a ‘difficulty value’ using AI. A lower score means a tougher start. Let’s dive in!

1. West Ham United: Total Difficulty Score: 34

Welcome back, Julen Lopetegui! West Ham has been handed the toughest start to the season. With two of last season’s top four, including four-time consecutive champions Manchester City, among their first five matches, it’s going to be a challenging start. Lopetegui, replacing David Moyes, will need early wins to get the fans on his side.

Fixtures: Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Fulham, Chelsea

2. Arsenal: Total Difficulty Score: 35

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, last season’s runners-up, will need to be sharp from the start. Facing three of the top five in their opening fixtures, including a north London derby against Tottenham and a clash with champions Manchester City, the Gunners have a chance to build an early lead but must be cautious.

Fixtures: Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City

3. Wolverhampton Wanderers: Total Difficulty Score: 36

Gary O’Neil’s Wolves will be hoping for a VAR-free start to the season. With four of their first five matches against last season’s top seven, O’Neil’s squad will need to hit the ground running to avoid early setbacks.

Fixtures: Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Aston Villa

4. Brentford: Total Difficulty Score: 39

Thomas Frank’s Brentford faces a tough start, with matches against Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham. Points will be crucial against Southampton and Crystal Palace if they want a positive beginning to the season.

Fixtures: Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur

5. Chelsea: Total Difficulty Score: 46

New coach Enzo Maresca steps into a challenging role at Chelsea, starting against his former mentor Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The remaining fixtures offer opportunities to gather points, which Maresca will need early on.

Fixtures: Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, West Ham United

6. Leicester City: Total Difficulty Score: 47

For the new Leicester City manager, the opening fixtures aren’t kind. With stern tests against Tottenham and Aston Villa early on, Leicester faces the toughest start among the promoted teams.

Fixtures: Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton

7. Bournemouth: Total Difficulty Score: 48

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth aims to continue their upward trajectory. After a challenging start last season, this time includes tough matches against Newcastle, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

Fixtures: Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Everton, Chelsea, Liverpool

7. Ipswich Town: Total Difficulty Score: 48

In what’s shaping up to be the transfer signing of the summer, Paris St-Germain’s striking...

In what’s shaping up to be the transfer signing of the summer, Paris St-Germain’s striking sensation Kylian Mbappe is on the brink of sealing a historic move to Real Madrid. The French captain, revered for his blistering pace and clinical finishing, has reportedly conveyed his decision to leave the Parisian giants as his contract winds down this June.

While ink has yet to hit paper, whispers from the corridors of power suggest that an official announcement could be on the horizon, pending the two clubs’ potential matchups in the Champions League. Mbappe, PSG’s all-time leading scorer with an astonishing tally of 244 goals, seems to have his heart set on a new challenge in the Spanish capital.

The saga took a dramatic turn on February 13th when Mbappe disclosed his future plans to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, signaling an end to his illustrious stint in Ligue 1. Despite the swirling rumors, Mbappe continued to showcase his prowess on the field, notably stepping off the bench to score in PSG’s recent victory against Nantes, which solidified their commanding lead atop Ligue 1.

The proposed terms of Mbappe’s engagement with Los Blancos are nothing short of staggering, with a five-year contract on the table, coupled with a lucrative signing-on bonus spread over the same period, not to mention a healthy slice of his image rights.

Carlo Ancelotti, the seasoned strategist helming Real Madrid, is already devising plans to integrate Mbappe into a dynamic setup featuring Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, and potentially inheriting the iconic number 10 shirt, pending Luka Modric’s tenure.

As PSG strides forward in the Champions League, holding a comfortable lead against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid too continues its quest for European glory, leading RB Leipzig in their tie. Mbappe’s departure, expected to be a blend of financial maneuvering and strategic planning, marks the end of an era at PSG and the dawn of a new chapter at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s faithful are buzzing with anticipation at the prospect of Mbappe joining a youthful and vibrant squad, promising to elevate the team’s global allure and competitive edge. Former Real president Ramon Calderon summed up the sentiment, highlighting the potential for Mbappe to etch his name among the greats in Real’s storied history.

“He is no doubt one of the players anyone would love to have on his side. He is an amazing player,” former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon told the BBC’s Football News Show.

“We have very young players – he will join Vinicius, Rodrygo, Bellingham – and I think we have a very strong team. That’s why we are leading La Liga and also we’ve won all our matches in the Champions League.

“So, for him it would be fantastic. Every fan of Real Madrid would like to see him playing in the Bernabeu.

“He will leave a mark. If he continues to play as he has up until now, for sure he will be one of the important players we have had in our history.”

Stay tuned to Soccer Tickets Online for the latest developments in this blockbuster move as Mbappe looks set to redefine his legacy and potentially Real Madrid’s fortunes in the coming seasons.

Everton have been hit with an unprecedented 10-point deduction after being found guilty of breaking the Premier League’s financial rules.

The punishment will be applied immediately, pending appeal, and leaves Everton languishing in 19th place on just 4 points after 12 matches this season.

It represents the harshest sporting sanction in Premier League history and casts major doubt on Everton’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Everton breached the league’s Profitability and Sustainability regulations which state clubs cannot lose more than £105 million over a three-year period.

The Toffees recorded losses of £124.5 million between 2019-20 and 2021-22 through overspending on transfers and failure to reduce costs.

Everton had tried to use accounting loopholes to cover up the extent of their losses but a Premier League commission heavily criticized the club’s financial mismanagement.

“The position that Everton finds itself in is of its own making,” the commission statement read.

Everton spent big money on players in an attempt to break into the top six but their signings flopped and they finished 16th last season instead of their projected 6th place.

The commission agreed with the Premier League that only a sporting sanction in the form of a points deduction would suffice.

“A financial penalty for a club that enjoys the support of a wealthy owner is not a sufficient penalty,” the commission said.

Everton expressed their “shock and disappointment” at the ruling and intend to appeal what they called an “unjust sporting sanction.”

But manager Sean Dyche faces a huge battle to keep Everton up after the devastating blow. The Toffees are now rooted to the bottom of the table and eight points from safety after the points penalty.

With strengthening in the January transfer window set to be restricted by Financial Fair Play, Dyche will have to galvanize his squad to pull off another great escape.

Everton’s penalty is the most severe sporting sanction in Premier League history. They also spark all sorts of implications for Manchester City, who have been charged with over 100 breaches of similar rules, as well as Chelsea who reportedly secretly bypassed FFP under Roman Abramovich’s tenure in charge of the club

Manchester City were denied a vital win at Chelsea by a 95th minute penalty from...

Manchester City were denied a vital win at Chelsea by a 95th minute penalty from Cole Palmer as the Premier League rivals played out an incredible 4-4 draw on Sunday.

City twice let the lead slip at Stamford Bridge but looked to have claimed all three points when Rodri put them 4-3 ahead in the 86th minute.

However, Ruben Dias conceded a penalty deep into stoppage time for a foul on Armando Broja. And Chelsea’s Palmer, who came through City’s academy, showed nerves of steel to hammer home the spot-kick.

“We feel exhausted. To concede four goals is not normal for us,” said City midfielder Rodri.

The visitors also had controversial penalty given by VAR to thank for their first goal, with Erling Haaland converting after appearing to initiate contact on Marc Cucurella.

Chelsea showed resilience to fight back three times. Club captain Thiago Silva powered home a header to make it 1-1 before Raheem Sterling netted against his old team from Reece James’ pass.

Haaland slid in his second to restore City’s lead but Nicolas Jackson capitalized on an Ederson error to equalize again. The eighth goal of a classic match was still to come.

“The level of the Chelsea team has risen. It was not our best performance,” admitted Rodri.

The draw leaves defending champions City one point clear of second-placed Liverpool at the Premier League summit.

City face Liverpool in a top of the table clash in two weeks after the international break. And Liverpool warmed up for that showdown with a comfortable 3-0 home win against Brentford.

Mohamed Salah netted his 12th goal of the season as the Egyptian became the first player to score in each of Liverpool’s opening six home league games.

“In that moment, the composure for the first goal is insane,” said Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. “A pretty special player.”

Diogo Jota added a late third as Liverpool maintained their perfect record at Anfield this campaign.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa made it 13 straight home wins in the Premier League by beating Fulham 3-1 to climb into the top five under new boss Unai Emery.

And West Ham eased the pressure on David Moyes with a thrilling late 3-2 victory at home to Nottingham Forest thanks to Tomas Soucek’s last-gasp header.

Brighton’s struggles continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Sheffield United despite leading until the closing stages when the 10-man Seagulls conceded.

The drama-filled Premier League weekend once again highlighted the fine margins between success and failure for the title chasers and European hopefuls this season.

Rumors have surfaced that UEFA is secretly developing proposals for a new European Super League...

Rumors have surfaced that UEFA is secretly developing proposals for a new European Super League competition to replace the Champions League. According to Spanish outlet El Pais, preparations are already underway for a possible 2027 launch.

The reported structure would feature three tiers – a Super League, Europa League and Candidates League – with promotion and relegation between divisions, similar to domestic leagues. Weekend fixtures were also said to be part of the plan.

If approved, the tournament overhaul would remain dormant for at least four years before implementation. Nonetheless, the proposal would have disastrous implications for domestic leagues if it ever came to fruition.

UEFA denies working on new league

In response to the speculation, UEFA firmly rejected suggestions it is plotting a “revamped” Super League. An official statement categorically dismissed the rumors as “entirely baseless.”

“UEFA is not working on any such new project,” it read via the Manchester Evening News. “UEFA’s opposition towards any kind of a so-called Super League is well documented.”

The governing body reiterated its commitment to the upcoming Champions League format changes in 2024, which it claims will provide “more top European matches, a better competitive balance, and an open competition where every game counts.”

Original Super League triggered UCL revisions

UEFA and president Aleksander Ceferin aggressively opposed the proposed breakaway Super League in 2021, which quickly collapsed amid backlash.

The failed coup ultimately triggered revisions to the Champions League structure from 2024-25 onwards. A 36-team league phase will replace the traditional group stage, with each club playing at least eight matches before a final 16-team knockout round.

While UEFA currently denies having its own Super League ambitions, the lure of a closed franchise model remains strong for Europe’s elite clubs. This brewing battle for control of the continental game is far from over.
