Honestly how much did google get paid to let Viagra spam the shit out of their gmail & gapps accounts? I just recently switched my companies email over to google hosted apps and instantly users started to complain about the excessive amount of Viagra spam and others that were not there prior to switching. Here is the solution around it which I have been testing for a couple days now and it seems to work just fine.

Put this in the “Has the words field”

{(from:(xxx@gmail.com) AND is:spam) OR (is:spam AND (VIAGRA OR viagra))}

Obviously replace xxx@gmail.com with your gmail account email. This is because some spammers send stuff to you and the to field is your address.

Nothing else needs to be filed in and click “Next Step” and select the options you want. I would suggest : Skip Inbox, Mark as read, Delete it, Never send it to Spam

This also works with Google Apps Email just change xxx@gmail.com to youraccount@yourdomain.com

Yes sounds easy but I spent sometime looking for the perfect way to import imap mail for any mail server to imap gmail. This is particularly useful if you are transferring your existing mail accounts to google hosted application.

This handles transferring all existing imap folders and even putting your sent mail, spam, drafts, trash into gmail’s special folder naming convention. Beware this is one sexy script! Its pretty short and sweet. All you need is the program imapsync
(ie. ubuntu: apt-get install imapsync)

Paste the contents of this file into imap2gmail

# nano imap2gmail
# chmod +x imap2gmail

then run it
# ./imap2gmail

Let’s keep this one real quick and simple. Since I love to shop for the best price and I am lazy I wanted to make a Pricegrabber quick search tool for Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 because there was none to be found.
Since it was so easy and I didn’t find any good tutorials I figured I would write one up. Ok so lets dig into this.

The opensearch item is nothing more than an xml file with a couple attribute.

The only three meaningful parts to get things working are the Image section, Search Url and Search String.

?View Code XML

	Pricegrabber
	Pricegrabber - Comparison Shopping
	UTF-8
	<img alt="" width="16" height="16" />data:image/x-icon;base64,AAABAAEAEBAAAAEABAAoAQAAFgAAACgAAAAQAAAAIAAAAAEABAAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACAAACAAAAAgIAAgAAAAIAAgACAgAAAwMDAAICAgAAAAP8AAP8AAAD//wD/AAAA/wD/AP//AAD///8AAAAAAAAAAAAPiIgAAAAAAAeIiId3AAAAd4CIAAiPAAB4AAiHiIcAAIiICP+AgAAAf3h49wCAAAAAiH/3gAAAAACIh3eICAAAAIiIiAiAgAAAgIeICIAHAAAIcHgICIAACAcACIAAiICAcAAAAAAIiIgAAAAAAACADwAAAAAAAHj//wAAg/8AAIA/AAAADwAAAA8AAAAfAAAAHwAAwB8AAMAPAADABwAAwAMAAMQjAACOcQAAH/gAAD/8AAC//AAA

	http://www.pricegrabber.com/

To understand it in a http type format

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search.php?form_keyword=commodore+64

Url > template is the path to the search script, similar to your post action for a form
form_keyword is the form field that would be the search text
Image: here you either have the option to do a hard link to a png/ ico file or encode your ico/png right into the xml file. This is probably the most favored method.

Using option one the hard link to your icon file your image arrtibute would look something like this

<Image width="16" height="16">http://ai.pricegrabber.com/favicon.ico</Image>

The other method encoding your ico/png file you would need to get your icon file and use
a base64 binary encoder.

<Image width="16" height="16">data:image/x-icon;base64,paste image data here</Image>

Its pretty simple and if you want to make a quick search for you any site all you have to do is have a look at their search form.

Our xml opensearch would look something like this

?View Code XML

	Backcountry
Backcountry - Outlet for Outdoor gear
	UTF-8
	<img alt="" width="16" height="16" />http://content.backcountry.com/images/icon/bcs.ico

	http://www.backcountry.com/

Now lets go over how to have the end user have a nice simple install.

There are two options at hand and you can use both.

OPTION #1
make a <a> link that can install like this one.
add the pricegrabber search engine – It’s pretty easy and this works for IE7+ as well.

?View Code JAVASCRIPT

<a href="javascript:window.external.AddSearchProvider('http://url_path/opensearch_file.xml');">add the engine</a>

OPTION #2
Have auto discovery of search engine plugin embedded in your page like this. which resides in the head of your html pages.

?View Code JAVASCRIPT

This is the true story of a man’s journey beyond the hardware and into the OS….. Join me on a fantastic adventure of greedy, deception, and virtual machines. It’s simple I want to eliminate my mini mac and run osx in VMware so that I can install xcode iphone sdk. Is it possible? VERY! and I will explain.

I always see on forums, people pissed there isn’t an xcode release for windows.

Well if your not invited to the party, crash it. There are two options on the table. One download OSx86 and install a dual boot of windows vista & OSx. Two try to get VMware to run OSx86. I choose option number two because I did not want the hassle of dual booting. I want instant joy….

Before I begin I should state that you should buy a licensed copy of OSx if you intend on keeping it installed and plan on using it. This tutorial is purely for educational purposes and does not include any software.

In order to run the iPhone Xcode SDK you need 10.5.5 or greater with iTunes 8. You could install OSx86 stright through vmware. But why reinvent the wheel. A simple torrent search of “MacOS 10.5.5 VMWARE image” will land you exactly what you need.

Once downloaded you’re going to want to boot the VMware image. This version booted really quick and wasn’t clunky and slow like the other vmware images. I do run a quad core and was able to dedicate 2 processors to it and 1.5 gig of memory. I’m sure that made some difference but should be two different on a solo core.

All you really need to do is download the iPhone SDK through the apple website. At that point everything should be all good.

Desktop Resolution Fix if you get annoyed by the 1024 x 768. Its nice running OSx at the same resolution as your desktop and just full screen it.
