<description>The Chemung County Department of Aging and Long Term Care will sponsor a six- week educational powerful tools training for family and friend caregivers who care for older adults with long-term illnesses.&amp;nbsp; The trainings will be held on Tuesdays, March 21st and 28th; and April 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th; from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at the Steele Memorial Library in Elmira, NY. 
The Powerful Tools Training gives caregivers self-care tools to help reduce personal stress, deal more effectively with challenging situations, and communicate more effectively for themselves and for the individual they care for. Participants will receive a free copy of The Caregiver Helpbook.&amp;nbsp;

<description>ERIN- The Chemung County Buildings and Grounds Department announces that Ice Fishing and Ice Skating at Park Station will be open beginning Saturday, February 4th.&amp;nbsp; The hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. &#45; 4:30 p.m., daily.&amp;nbsp; No motorized vehicles (including but not limited to ATV's or snowmobiles) are allowed on the lake.
These activities will remain open as long as the weather permits.&amp;nbsp; For weather conditions call 607-739-9164. During the winter months there is no entrance fee to Park Station.&amp;nbsp; </description>

<description>Elmira -&amp;nbsp; Eight members of the Chemung County Legislature joined delegates from all 57 counties and the City of New York at the Legislative Conference of the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC). More than 900 attendees attended meetings, educational forums, keynote addresses, and state budget presentations over the course of the three-day conference held in Albany, January 30 - February 1, 2017.
&#34;The Legislative Conference sponsored by the New York State Association of Counties provides County Legislators with training on government accounting, ethics, and county operations ranging from pre-K funding to Next Generation 911.&amp;nbsp; Nowhere else would county leaders be able to work together on the issues they face as they strive to plan for the future and provide the services the public needs with ever-shrinking resources. This educational experience is priceless and enables Chemung County to be a leader in innovation and shared services throughout the State.&#34; said Donna Draxler, Chair, Chemung County Legislature. <description>Elmira Heights- The Chemung County Fire Advisory Board will hold a graduation ceremony for 24 graduates of the Spring and Fall 2016 Classes of the Firefighter 1 training program tomorrow, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Thomas Edison High School auditorium beginning at 7:00 pm. The training program was offered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services through the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. The graduates of this program represent thirteen local volunteer fire companies from Chemung, Steuben, and Tioga counties.&amp;nbsp; They will now become probationary firefighters in those departments. Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli and Mark Cicora, Chemung County Fire Coordinator will join the department's Fire Chiefs in conferring the diplomas to the graduates. </description>

<description>Elmira- Chemung County is the latest county in the state to sound the alarm directing attention to a widely held concern that the state's emergency 9-1-1- call centers need more dedicated resources to address increasing call volumes and aging systems.&amp;nbsp; 
The effort, called Rescuing 911, has the backing and support of a wide range of local officials, including county executives, sheriffs, legislators, supervisors, 9-1-1 coordinators, firefighters, emergency managers and other first responders.
Chemung County Executive, Tom Santulli, has appeared in a&amp;nbsp;one-minute video stressing the importance of the Rescuing 9-1-1 campaign. </description>

<description>Elmira- The Chemung County Health Department, Arnot Health, and the Health Priorities Partnership have updated their Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) to address the health priorities of our community.&amp;nbsp; 
Chemung County chose to focus on the following priorities and area of disparity:&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Priority Area 1:&amp;nbsp; Prevent Chronic Diseases by reducing illness, disability, &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; and&amp;nbsp;death related to hypertension, tobacco use and second hand smoke, and &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; obesity in adults and children.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Priority Area 2:&amp;nbsp; Promote Mental Health and Prevent Substance Abuse by &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; working to prevent non-medical prescription opioid use and overdose.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Chemung County also chose to address the following disparity:&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Under&amp;nbsp;the Prevent Chronic Disease priority area, Chemung County will work &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; on decreasing the percentage of low income individuals who use tobacco.</description>
