ELMIRA - Freshman and sophomores in college are once again being offered a training opportunity in the Student Certified Nurse Aide Employment Program (SCNAEP). The program provides students a salary while training through GST-BOCES leading to certification as a nurse aide and guaranteed summer employment at one of three local health facilities that offer up to full time employment for those enrolled in the program.

Chemung County Surpasses $500,000 in Prescription Savings with ProAct Rx Discount Cards

Chemung County- Chemung County has surpassed yet another milestone with the County Prescription Drug Discount Card Program. At the end of November, residents within the county surpassed the $500,000 savings mark. Since the start of this program in November of 2009, residents have filled more than 14,000 prescriptions with an average savings of 51%, or $34.00.

Elmira - Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli unveiled his proposed 2012 Budget today which will hold the line on the County property tax rate for the seventh straight year. "Despite the continuing fiscal pressures of New York State's unfunded mandates I am pleased to be able to present to the Chemung County Legislature a budget which continues the previous year's tax rate of $6.98 per thousand of assessed valuation and further maintains the property tax levy at last year's level in the amount of $27,005,000," said Santulli. "These unfunded mandates in 2012 will consume this entire tax levy as well as 23% or $9,395,338 of our sales tax revenues," added Santulli.

Coordinated by mobility manager, Tina Hager, a rebranding committee directed Riger staff to create a name that will be shorter and easier for riders to remember and a logo that is visually appealing. The new name selected is C TRAN, and the slogan is, "the smart way to go."

ELMIRA - The Chemung County Health Department reports that a local tobacco vendor sold tobacco to a minor during a routine compliance check. New York State law prohibits the sale of tobacco to anyone less than 18 years old. It further requires tobacco vendors to require photographic proof of age for any individual attempting to purchase tobacco that appears to be less than 25 years old.

Chemung County - With the start-up of classes at Corning Community College (CCC) on Monday, August 29th, Chemung County Transit will restart the express service runs to Corning. The Elmira Corning Route # 20 has express runs that will leave the Chemung County Transportation Center at 7:30 am arriving at the campus at 8:10 am. In the afternoon the bus will leave the Transportation Center at 1:30 pm and depart the CCC campus at 2:35 pm. In an effort to provide a smoother transfer for students coming from the Wellsburg and Waverly areas, Transit will move up the morning departure of the first run on the Wellsburg-Waverly Route #10 to 5:55 am.
