Street Dogs of Chennai

Seems like street dogs of Chennai is a big problem for the city residents. Problem or issue, I am not sure but I found many Chennai city residents complain about street dogs. Here is one interesting complaint I found in the Indian Consumer Complains Forum posted by one Mr.Rahul

"Guys,
THIS IS STUPIDITY WE ARE LETTING OUR EMOTIONS HERE, BUT OUR GOVERNMENT DOESN'T TAKE ANY DECISION TO CATCH THIS STRAY DOGS AND I'VE BEEN CHASED BY A STRAY DOG MANY TIMES AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'M TELLING YOU ALL PEOPLE, JUST FORGET IT AND CARRY A STONE ON UR OWN. I CALLED BLUE CROSS AND COROPORATION OF CHENNAI BUT THEY ARE GIVING SOME PHONE NUMBERS INSTEAD OF CATCHING THE DOGS, AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED TILL NOW, SO OUR SAFETY IS FIRST PRIORITY. DON'T BELIEVE OUR STATE GOVERNMENT IT WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT OUR PEOPLE SECURITY...

Well Mr.Rahul, carrying a stone and throwing a stone at street dogs is not a solution. The issue of the street dogs in Chennai is not created by DOGS. It is created by people like me and you. To show off your wealth and affluence we buy the Pedigree Dogs and when they are sick or old you throw them out of the house. We don't show the courtesy to give them decent death. I guess that we don't have the guts to take the sin of killing a sick dog. But it is ok to throw the pet into the street and starve.

Someone from Chennai once told me to justify the act of throwing the "pedigree dog" into the street once it got sick. "Dogs are survivors and they will get used to it". Well you did really convince me that you are an animal lover.

I often receive criticism from the neighborhood for feeding the street dogs. I don't give a darn about the neighborhood complaint. I care more about the street dogs than the people in this world. All these pictures are the dogs I feed. I don't feed the leftovers from the previous days meal. I feed them the regular dog food I give to the two "adopted street dogs" living inside my house.

Like Mr.Rahul, my Chennai neighborhood people carry stones and sticks and they often hurt the dog. And you expect the same dog not to attack them. Street Dogs of Chennai are not the real issue or problem. It is the people like Mr.Rahul and my neighborhood creates the problem.

Generally, the people living in this colony are pretty much dog lovers. As long as the dog is a bought from a pet store spending at least 5000 Indian Rupees and a so called pedigree dog. Oh yea, in a society where everything is valued depending on how much you spent on something.

There was one incident when a "good pet owner" decided to move from Chennai, he left his two pedigree dogs on the street. Yes, two well fed pedigree dogs on the street. Anyways, my "pedigree friendly" neighborhood was so kind to adopt them. I was not surprised!

A Dog is a Dog No Matter What pedigree it is.

Even if your pedigree dog's mom and dad is from Germany, it is still a DOG.

Stop throwing stones at street dogs you find in Chennai.

This street dog of Chennai has only three legs. Thanks to people like Rahul who throw stones and beat them with sticks. Don't be surprised when they bite you next time. These street dogs can sense that you are a coward and they feel your fear.

Look at that black and white dog. It is a Dalmatian and Street Dog mixed mutt. This is what happens when you throw out your pedigree Dalmatian and they survive with other street dogs, mate and produce more street dogs. Thanks to the pedigree dog lovers of Chennai.

Before you complain about Government and non-profitable organization like Blue Cross about what they have done about the Street Dogs of Chennai, ask yourself what you have done to them. Throwing stones at them and complaining to the government that the dogs are attacking you is not the solution.

This post is dedicated to all the 2 legged, 3 legged, ugly, nasty, sick and abandoned Street Dogs of Chennai.

The kings of the Chola created the Annamaliyar Temple in Tamil Nadu, India as early as the ninth century. The temple complex in Thiruvannamalai, about 185 kilometers south of Chennai, remains a holy destination for devout Hindu pilgrims and curious tourists. The temple sits at the base of 2,600-foot Annamalai Hill.

Annamalaiyar Temple honors Lord Shiva. It is best known architecturally for its four, immense gopurams or towers.

During full moons, thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of Shiva devotees walk around the base of Annamalai Hill barefoot, a 14 km trek. During Karthikai, the Tamil month that spans November and December, a 10-day Deepam celebration takes place. On the final day of the 10-day event, a huge caldron filled with ghee is illuminated at the top of Annamalai Hill.

The spiritual tourist stop is accessible by car, bus or train. Thiruvannamalai is located at the intersection of National Highways 66 and 234, the Pondicherry Krishnagiri Bangalore Highway and the Magalore-Villupuram Highway.

History of Gingee Fort (Sengiri) - Near Chennai

Gingee Fort in the state of Tamil Nadu sits near the border of Pondicherry in southeastern India.

The name Gingee is the name used in to identify the fort, but its real name is “Sengiri.” Some believe “Sengiri” has a Ramayana connection. Others say the name stems from a local legend of seven virtuous sisters. Still others believe “Sengiri” simply indicates that the fort was built on a red hill, the approximate translation of the word.

Originally an unimportant, ninth century structure, Gingee Fort was expanded in the 13th century and touted as a natural granite fortress, although the possession of the complex switched hands many times during several battles over hundreds of years.

The French and British each claim the fort at different times during the 1700s.

The Gingee Fort is actually three separate forts spread over three hills. Rajagiri is the primary fort and the one considered most secured by the natural rocky protection surrounding it. Inside the complex are a series of gates and an inner fort where royal remnants of a palace, stables and even an ancient gymnasium may be found.

A trip to the Gingee Fort offers a backward glimpse of what was once called the “most impregnable fortress in India.” The fort was declared a national monument in 1921 and is maintained today by the country’s Archeological Department.
