I ran to the window with my two kids in tow and there on the grass (yes, we can finally see the grass) were three cardinals and several bright bluebirds frolicking. It was a very happy sight since it means spring is finally, really, truly on its way! It made me think of my JSchatz bird feeder that is safely tucked away in the garage. These colorful gems are one of my all time favorite objects. Check them out at www.jschatz.com! They are a great handmade gift for a housewarming, run about $135 each and come in a stunning array of spring inducing, vividly bright colors.

All wrapped up!

I saw Gustav Reyes in the latest American Craft issue and immediately fell in love with his sculptural yet wearable style. His medium is wood but he manipulates it so beautifully that it seems so fluid and light. Check out his work at www.gustavreyes.com and enjoy the gallery - his all wood necklace is stunning. He will be at the American Craft Council show in Baltimore February 24-27and at the Smithsonian show in D.C. in April so if you happen to be going definitely look for him!

Modern Gal

Here's a great heart necklace for the modern gal! Handmade by designer Drea West it is a solid sterling silver heart on a long silk cord. I was racking my brains to come up with a special gift this year for a special friend and thought of getting some stationery made for her business. As I was searching through endless listings online, I came across Rock Scissor Paper. Now I know them because I've ordered from them before for Beehive but I had no idea that they personalized stationery. But they do and I ordered for my friend and for my kids and they came so quickly and I love the designs they have to choose from! This is a great little gift for kids and adults alike!

'Tis the season for sparkle

Which is why I thought I'd let you know about Leslie Latto, the designer behind lml designs! I just want to pile them up and wrap them around me - especially as it gets chilly. As the designer Jackie Frankstone says, "the collection grows organically and maybe a little willy-nilly; the whole point is to go with what interests and inspires us, to learn more about the world as we go along and let design + commerce mingle as easily as possible with actual life". I say that is why they are so lovely! From her website I gathered that Lynsey Walters was born in Scotland and studied printed textiles at Edinburgh College of Art, and went on from there to achieve an MA at the Royal College of Art, London, in constructed textiles. You can now purchase directly through her website www.lynseywalters.co.uk which is definitely worth the visit. For someone who enjoys "art" jewelry her work is a must have addition to the collection!

Housewares with a passion!

Jessica Swift's delightful sense of color and pattern makes me happy! So... Spot On Designs is another great find from the NYIGF. Every time I see her work I just love the beautiful color and detail she pulls from the glass she works with. Penelope Rakov is the glass artist behind Spot On and is based out of Philadelphia. She designs and pulls her own version of venetian style murini, which she then incorporates into jewelry. I must say it looks good enough to eat! Mixing and matching textures and patterns and getting creative as a way to celebrate food. I came across Gail Garcia's work at the last NYIGF and fell in love with these porcelain napkin rings. You can get them in sets of 4 for $48 from her website www.dinner-ware.com and they make delightful hostess gifts or stocking stuffers - yes it's just around the corner. Since I love fabrics, I find these eclectically pieced skirts and dresses so enchanting and cute. I say turn up the volume - especially when you're a kid! Actually, I kind of wish she had some skirts for adults. They are sweet without the saccharin! "Fortune cookies are a small indulgence that offer a glimpse into your future. You carefully select your cookie, crack it open. And read your fortune." So says jeweler Christina Kober, designer of this fabulously kitchy but elegant line of handmade silver jewelry available at beehiveshop. You can write your own fortune and wear it proudly around your neck and each and everyday!

Hit the open road!

These images make me happy! Reminds me of summer at the cottage, bouncing around in the backseat of the one and only Buick my Dad bought circa 1978. What a boat, but who could resist the back row of seating facing the open road with the breeze blowing through the open back window. Wow, bet that option isn't available anymore! But I digress... these adorable tea towels from Tiny Peepers Printed Fabric are now available at the beehiveshop. I think they are just adorable and the best part is they are handmade to order. Made of suede leather, which stretches and shapes to your foot with wear, they come with a soft cushioned thick insole made from a super comfy eco-friendly foam. The moccasins are softsoled, which means they have no hard sole only leather, however, they can be worn indoors or outdoors, anywhere you go. I love her color choices and you can see even more on her etsy store. I really want an ipad or kindle but probably will have to wait for Christmas. In the meanwhile, I'm shopping around for covers because as I mentioned before I'm a bagaholic. This is the cutest darn thing I've ever seen - I LOVE it. BoutiqueID makes it, you can find them on Etsy.
