Redecorating your home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By focusing on one room at a time - starting with manageable spaces like the bathroom - you can make meaningful changes without disrupting your routine. This post explores how thoughtful planning, expert guidance, and small design choices can lead to big transformations, all while building confidence for future updates.

Refreshing a single space can feel more achievable than facing an entire house overhaul. Focusing on one room allows you to give it proper attention without disrupting daily life. The results are easier to manage, and each update builds confidence for future changes.

Bathrooms often become a top choice. They’re small enough to transform over a weekend but impactful enough to boost the home. From practical upgrades to creative tweaks, concentrating on one room helps keep things realistic and enjoyable, and here’s why!

Creating a Plan That Works for Your Schedule

Balancing home updates around work, school runs, and family life means time matters. Planning realistically avoids frustration, so choose a room that fits your current routine. The bathroom is the most manageable for many households, as it doesn’t usually require moving furniture or making big layout changes.

Set aside specific slots during the week or weekend to tackle tasks in stages. Use early mornings or evenings for preparation, like clearing the space or measuring. Larger tasks, such as installing fixtures or painting, can happen when the house is quieter. Keeping the workload in proportion to your time avoids delays and unfinished jobs.

Working with smaller areas like bathrooms lets you complete sections without rushing. Focus on one element at a time, such as walls, lighting or storage. The process stays fluid without needing a full break from daily life.

Getting Expert Guidance Without Overcommitting

Many people now plan room upgrades using online tools or remote support, which reduces the pressure to get everything right alone. Bathroom updates, in particular, benefit from layout planning and design suggestions that suit tricky dimensions or unique needs.

Access to services like luxury bathroom design, especially from Bathica, helps turn basic plans into polished results. Rather than guessing what fits, online consultations offer tailored guidance based on your space and budget. This is ideal for making the most of tight layouts, especially in homes where bathrooms are compact or oddly shaped.

Digital mood boards, interactive layouts and curated product packages simplify decision-making. These services can bring professional insight without the stress of traditional appointments or showrooms. The result? It reflects your style while still benefiting from design expertise.

Combining remote planning with DIY-friendly choices creates a balance, as you can stay in control, knowing your choices are informed by experience. All of this fits well with a one-room-at-a-time strategy where each change builds on the last.

Why Bathrooms Make the Cut Early

Think about it – bathrooms are practical spaces, as people use them every day. And so, upgrades feel immediately rewarding. Something as simple as improving the lighting, incorporating better storage or adding modern fixtures can make a difference. Since most bathrooms are quite limited in space, you don’t need to worry about coordinating with lots of furniture or decorative accessories like you would with the living room or bedroom.

The average bathroom remodel is often quicker than most people expect. If you have clear goals and a focused approach, minor updates like swapping taps, repainting, or updating tiles can transform the space and only take a day or two. Larger improvements, such as new flooring or a fitted vanity unit, are still achievable without full renovation.

There’s also the hygiene factor, and we’re not talking about having a new space to freshen up in! Freshening up this part of the home often has practical benefits. A better layout or new storage can reduce clutter, while improved ventilation can reduce moisture and mould. These are small steps with long-term effects and often sit high on the home improvement priority list.

When you finish one room that’s used daily, it boosts motivation, but also has you looking at other areas of your home! After seeing progress in a space with constant traffic, you will feel encouraged to explore future updates in other areas of your home.

Style Ideas That Don’t Rely on Size

Designing a small bathroom presents its own challenges. Space is limited, so every decision needs to balance function with visual clarity. Good small bathroom design focuses on smart layouts, multi-use fixtures, and materials that enhance space without crowding it.

Start by thinking vertically. Wall-mounted storage, slim cabinets and recessed shelving can free up floor space without losing practicality. Compact sinks and corner units help make use of awkward areas. A sliding door, if possible, can also open up options.

Those who prefer calming, natural interiors often explore a forest bathroom style. This works well in small spaces where minimalism suits the layout. Green tones, wood textures and stone-inspired surfaces bring warmth without overpowering the room. Keep colours light and cohesive to create a more open feeling.

Good lighting and well-placed mirrors can help reflect natural light and extend sightlines. Small bathrooms benefit from simplicity, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be stylish. If you look at examples of small bathroom designs, you will see that the right layout and design details can completely shift how the space feels and functions.

Let Progress Build Confidence for What’s Next

Once one room feels finished, it becomes easier to move on. The satisfaction from a completed space builds momentum for future updates. When redecorating one area at a time, each project teaches something new. You start understanding which colours work, which materials are practical and how much time to allow.

Reflecting on what went smoothly and what you might change is helpful. These lessons apply when moving to another space, whether it’s a bedroom, hallway or kitchen. Even just refreshing one element in each room keeps the house fresh and updated.

Confidence grows with every improvement. As skills develop and ideas evolve, updates become more refined. Each completed room becomes part of a wider vision, but without the need for rushed timelines or unnecessary costs.

Start with the Bathroom and Let the Rest Follow

Updating a single room doesn’t have to feel like a huge task. With the right approach, each project becomes something you can enjoy, manage and complete on your terms. There’s no need for perfection. The aim is to improve how your space works and feels day to day.

Start with one area where change will have the most impact. A fresh bathroom is often the right place, offering visual improvements and practical gains. Lean on expert support when needed, and focus on choices that suit your style and needs.

Taking it room by room creates space to try ideas without pressure. There’s value in steady progress and thoughtful decisions. With each space you finish, your home grows closer to what you want, one room at a time.

School paperwork piling up again? Learn how to streamline the school term with practical tips for managing digital forms, compressing PDFs, and staying organised - perfect for busy UK parents juggling multiple deadlines.

The school holidays have ended, and parents across the UK are once again tackling the mountain of forms that come with a new term. Permission slips, medical updates, and activity registrations pile up faster than dirty PE kits. For many families, this paperwork marathon creates extra stress during an already busy time.

Managing school documents becomes even trickier when files are too large to email or upload to school portals. Many school websites and email systems have strict size limits that reject oversized PDFs, leaving parents searching for solutions. The process of scanning, saving and sending these essential forms can quickly turn into a technological headache.

Fortunately, compressing PDFs is a simple skill that can save parents a lot of time and frustration. Reducing file sizes makes documents easier to share, store, and submit through school platforms. With just a few clicks, those bulky scanned permission slips can be shrunk to manageable sizes without losing quality or readability.

Why School Form Season Creates Parental Headaches

Each school term, parents contend with a constant stream of paperwork: weekly newsletters, permission slips, medical updates, and homework sheets all demand time and attention. For families with more than one child, forms multiply rapidly, often requiring similar details to be filled out several times.

Digital paperwork hasn’t solved these challenges; scanned forms, especially at standard colour settings, regularly produce file sizes that exceed school portal upload limits set between 2MB and 5MB. Even a single high-resolution scan can push a document to 10MB or more, and major email services cap attachments at 20MB or less.

As a result, parents are forced to rescan or find solutions when submissions fail, wasting precious hours each term. Many school portals only accept certain file types, or lose partially completed forms if parents cannot finish in one sitting, making the process both slow and frustrating.

For larger families, the burden is sharply amplified, as each child’s year group has its own set of slightly differing requirements. Copying information isn’t always possible, leading to repetitive manual input. Staying organised requires both a good filing system and practical skills like compressing PDFs to meet strict digital limits, or else parents risk missed deadlines and extra administrative hassle.

Essential Digital Skills Every School Parent Needs

Solid file management habits prevent time wasted searching for documents during term time. Setting up straightforward folder names, such as “Ella_Y6_Spring”, lets parents pull up the correct form fast, especially when teachers request them on short notice. Keeping files sorted by child and year cuts down on confusion as paperwork builds up.

Sending digital forms comes with its own challenge: file size limits. Many schools use portals that reject files over 2-5MB. Scanning at high settings often makes forms too large. Learning how to reduce file size ensures every submission goes through on the first try, freeing up space on smartphones and laptops for other essentials. Simple online tools make this process quick without damaging document quality.

Knowing that files are so easy to compress online streamlines busy evenings and reduce tech headaches. Compressed files send faster, so parents can meet tight school deadlines and avoid having to rescan or resend forms. Prioritising these digital skills sets families up for fewer admin hassles every school year.

When PDF Size Becomes a Problem

Many school portals set strict file size limits to prevent system slowdowns, often capping uploads at 5MB, while some still restrict files to just 2MB. These limits create obstacles when parents need to upload scanned forms or documents containing images, especially if each scan results in a file over the allowed limit. Email platforms like Gmail and Outlook introduce further complications with their own attachment restrictions, which can vary and sometimes reject large files despite appearing under the stated threshold due to backend settings.

Scanning software converts paper documents into images that often aren’t optimised, making even single-page files far larger than expected. A high-resolution scan of one page can reach 10MB, and multiple pages quickly multiply the file size. Without using a compression tool, urgent school forms become too large to send, leading to delays or the frustration of rescanning at lower quality, which may compromise readability.

Storing documents on mobile devices brings another challenge. Taking photos of handwritten forms is fast for busy parents, but repeated uploads eat up storage space, causing slowdowns and forcing regular file cleanups. Ensuring each PDF is compressed before saving or submitting avoids these space and time issues, making file management much easier through school term cycles.

Managing School Forms on Mobile Devices

For parents handling urgent school documents away from home, mobile devices offer practical tools to keep paperwork under control. Most smartphones let you view PDFs instantly, but switching to dedicated apps enables extra functions like form filling, electronic signatures, and direct file compression. With apps such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can compress PDFs right from your phone, reducing file size while keeping forms sharp. This avoids upload rejections caused by school system limits and saves storage.

Look for apps that work offline, so you stay productive without internet access. Completing forms digitally saves time and removes the hassle of scanning or printing. Just tap the fields and enter details with your mobile keyboard, no more lost forms or ink stains. For signatures, tools like Adobe Fill & Sign let you draw your signature once and reuse it as needed, making repetitive school authorisations fast and consistent. Some sensitive documents, like medical or legal forms, might still need ink signatures to meet compliance rules, so check requirements before submitting electronically. These mobile steps reduce admin stress and keep your school paperwork moving, even on the go.

Creating a School Form System That Works

A reliable organisation system converts scattered paperwork into accessible records. Centralising all school documents in a digital folder, rather than letting forms pile up in inboxes or on kitchen counters, means urgent information is always within reach when a teacher requests it.

Consistent file names are essential. Each document should include the child’s name, form type, and date, like “Emma_SwimConsent_Sept2023”, which makes retrieval simple months down the line. This structure prevents confusion, especially during term renewals or urgent medical updates.

Dedicate a folder per child, then break it down. Have subfolders for medical details, trips, clubs, and academic reports. Using cloud storage, such as Google Drive or OneDrive, ensures you can access forms on any device, whether you’re at home or queuing at school drop-off.

Retention guidelines reduce clutter and protect privacy. Delete permission slips after events are done. Keep medical records only until new versions are provided. Academic reports are best saved for the duration of the school journey, giving easy reference for future years.

Prevent overload with a weekly schedule. Give ten minutes sorting new files, compressing large PDFs, and filing every document ensures you never scramble before a deadline. This approach minimises lost forms, reduces last-minute stress, and keeps the school year running smoothly for busy families.

Privacy Concerns with School Information

School forms record personal details including full names, dates of birth, addresses, and emergency contacts. Medical documents might list NHS numbers or health issues, making this data a frequent target for cyber risks if not handled properly.

When saving or sending sensitive documents, always set a strong password in your PDF tool’s security options, choosing the “Protect” or “Set Password” feature, and store passwords in a secure mobile app. For cloud services like Google Drive or OneDrive, restrict access to trusted individuals and set link expirations for files with personal or financial data. Upload forms via the parent portal whenever it’s offered; if you must email, confirm the address ends in “.sch.uk” and follows the local authority’s secure protocols. After submitting, ask the school for a confirmation that your file was received and that they’ll delete it after processing, especially for forms with medical or banking content.

UK regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018, require these steps. Never agree for your child’s data to be widely shared with third parties unless essential. Stay informed with guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office.

If compressing or storing a school document online, check the provider’s privacy guarantee for statements on immediate file deletion after processing. Reputable sites highlight compliance badges or state “files are deleted automatically. Avoid any tool lacking clear privacy policies or that makes you request deletion manually. A detailed privacy policy should explain exactly how your documents are removed and protected.

Preparing for The Next Term Rush

UK school terms trigger predictable surges of paperwork—September means medical updates, photo permissions, and new emergency contact forms, while January brings club renewals and spring requires summer trip slips. Since schools generally ask for this data at the same points each year, setting alerts on your phone or digital calendar helps you avoid last-minute panic. For best results, create reminders two weeks before typical due dates so you have time to locate, scan, and compress files if needed.

Many parents miss deadlines because forms get lost among other tasks or they wait until notifications arrive. Tackle this by reviewing your school’s calendar at the start of term and noting recurring paperwork periods for each child. Store blank and submitted documents in pre-labelled folders by child and year group to speed up retrieval.

As form deadlines approach, open compressed draft copies so uploads meet school system requirements, saving rescan frustration.

Staying proactive with these digital habits ensures a smoother, less stressful start to every term.

Are you finding yourself stuck in a rut, working from home but not really getting anything done? It may be time to make a move out of your home office and into a shared space. If you have been working from home for a long time or your business is expanding, an office at home may no longer be the perfect fit for you. Here are three vital signs that it’s time to make the switch.

You’re Not Using The Home Office As Much As You Thought

When you first set up your home office, you were full of excitement and motivation. You envisioned yourself working diligently at your desk, surrounded by all of your favourite things. However, now, a few months later, you find that you’re barely using the space at all. Instead, you’re working at the kitchen table or in front of the TV. What went wrong? The truth is, working from home is not for everyone. It can be a real challenge to focus and stay motivated when so many distractions are within arm’s reach. If you struggle to get work done at home, it might be time to consider returning to the office and renting office space from theworkstation.co.uk.

It’s Hard To Focus In Your Home Office

Working from home has its perks – no commute, flexible hours, and the comfort of your own home. Still, it has its challenges, like distractions and a lack of separation between work and personal life. It can be hard to keep on track when you’re working in your living room or at the kitchen table, especially when there are dishes to be done or laundry to be folded. One vital way to combat this is to create a dedicated space for yourself by moving out of your home office. Renting a dedicated office space enables you to have some privacy and quiet away from family and friends. By renting a space that’s just for work, you can help yourself stay focused and be more productive.

Your Home Office Is Too Noisy Or Too Quiet

Working in your home office can be a bit of a balancing act. On the one hand, you need to be able to focus and get your work done. But on the other hand, you don’t want to feel isolated and cut off from the rest of your family. So what’s the ideal level of noise for an office? That depends on the person. Some people prefer complete silence when they’re working, while others find that a low background noise hum helps them focus. Plus, then there are those who need a little bit of both, depending on the task at hand. The important thing is to find what works for you and to create an environment that allows you to be productive. If your home office is too noisy or too quiet, it can be hard to get into a good workflow, which is when you know it’s time to move out.

Anna Whitehouse aka Mother Pukka powers up flexible job matching site to bring accessible flex working once and for all

I’m a working mum. I have been a working mum for over 15 years. But it’s never been easy.

I was on maternity leave from my role as a Marketing Director with my son when I was made redundant. It was incredibly traumatic for me on many levels and the impact of being at home breast feeding my son to receive a special delivery letter telling me I would not be returning to a job I loved will never leave me. I stood up and fought for my rights and I won my unfair dismissal and discrimination claim.

I’ve navigated working parenthood by being self employed, contracting with expensive child care, grandparent back up and more recently with a lovely independent marketing agency. I’ve always worked in marketing, social media and digital marketing but only have I enjoyed truly flexible working as a bi-product of the Covid lockdowns. It feels like it took many decades and a Pandemic to get to this point. This point in time being where flexible working is integral part of employment. New things are on the horizon for me now and I’m excited to be starting a new job next month with a hybrid flexible approach to work back with a large corporate employer. I’m really pleased to be able to keep working, learning and developing and also be able to share my knowledge and experience with others.

I’m passionate about keeping working mums, dads – all working parents in the workforce. It is a tragedy to lose these skills and experience so I am delighted to see a new flexible working job site, WorkYourWay, officially launch to match people with their dream flexible working roles across the globe.

Dubbed ‘Tinder for Flex, ’ WorkYourWay is underpinned by a unique ‘flexibase’ algorithm that generates percentage scores for roles and candidates to help them to find their perfect flex match. The new site aims to bring total transparency to a job market filled with smoke and mirrors when it comes to flex.

The brainchild of both Tim Grimes and Anna Whitehouse, aka Mother Pukka, WorkYourWay has been designed to help companies fill roles that are sitting empty by bringing to life the flexible working policy that underpins every company and every role across all industries. Research has shown that 9 in 10 (87%) people want to work flexibly, yet just 1 in 4 jobs advertise flexible working today.

Last year Anna Whitehouse and Sir Robert McAlpine released a new ‘Flexonomics report’ which revealed that flexible working is worth £37bn to the economy. A 50% increase in flexible working rates could result in a net economic gain of £55bn. The current economic challenges this could support are endless.

Tim Grimes, Co-Founder of WorkYourWay, comments, “We want to breathe transparency into job hunting for flex. For the people who are looking for flex and for the companies that are hiring. It’s no longer an optional extra, it’s essential for most people, and yet the majority of roles don’t mention flexible working at all in their advertising. Often the company does offer flexible working, but for some reason or another, they haven’t put it in the advert. We want to change all of this, to shift the power dynamic and make flex a level playing field for all. If you have the flex that candidates are looking for, you’ll get your match, and vice versa.’

The new site is live, and hundreds of companies are already listed. Candidates can search the site for flex-forward companies and jobs, filtering from 23 options to find their dream flex. Filters include; working patterns, workload, workplace and life events, enabling candidates to provide total clarity on their work-life arrangement before applying for the role.

Anna Whitehouse, Broadcaster and Founder of Flex Appeal, comments, “For decades, we have all kept our lives and struggles secret, desperately trying to work around an archaic 9-5 pm work day that dials right back to the Industrial Revolution. Now it’s time for change; enough is enough. WorkYourWay is our grassroots movement to bring all companies into the 21st century with a truly flexible job search for candidates. This is for everyone who has been denied flexible working and those desperately seeking – the power is shifting – and we’re making flexible working the norm, not the special request for job hunters today.”

Unemployment has peaked at 3.5% this August, and yet simultaneously there are 1.3 million jobs that are vacant. Millions of people who could contribute their skills to the recovery are facing barriers from outdated work contexts and cultures. WorkYourWay is tackling this head on, removing the awkward first-date interview question and revealing all to both parties from the get go.

Anna continues, “Flexible working isn’t just for mums or dads. It’s for everyone. And Tim and I have come together to launch a job-matching solution that will truly change how we work. If companies are serious about inclusivity and diversity in the workplace and want to play their role in closing the gender pay gap, they will join our fight for change, one job at a time. We’re bringing jobs to the market with a side of Flex Appeal.”

Head to WorkYourWay to find out more.

Do you love Christmas? Or just love a good party? Let me introduce you to my favourite reason to get the girls together at Christmas by throwing a Bauble Party.

My bauble party has made a return to the calendar in 2022 after a two year break, thanks for that Covid! This means I am extra excited about the return of this big fun Christmas tradition. It’s impossible not to have a good time, I thought I would share it with you.

Here’s my step by step guide to hosting a Bauble Party:

Invite a group of good fun friends to your bauble party, I’d suggest probably between 10 – 20 girlfriends over.

Ask your friends to purchase a Christmas bauble for anything from £1 – £10 (it doesn’t have to be an actual bauble, but something that can hang on the tree). Guests need to bring a bauble gift wrapped to the party, keeping the bauble inside a surprise.

Place all the baubles in the middle of the room, or on a table.

Once everyone has arrived ask your friends to draw a number out of a hat from 1 to whatever the final number of people is, and hold onto their ticket. This is the order that people will choose their baubles.

Once everyone has a drink (I have some great festive cocktail recipes below and here), get everyone to seated / gathered round the wrapped baubles. Then the game can begin.

The guest with ticket number 1 chooses a wrapped bauble gift from the pile and opens it so that everyone can see it.

The guest with ticket number 2 chooses a wrapped bauble gift OR – and this is crucial – number 2 can choose to ‘steal’ the bauble that has just been opened by number 1.

If number 2 chooses to steal number 1’s bauble, number 1 gets to choose another wrapped bauble to open. This bauble can be stolen yet again, by number 3, who’s turn it is next. However a bauble can only be ‘stolen’ a maximum of three times. Guest with ticket number 3, chooses a wrapped gift from the table, or to steal either of the bauble’s already in the possession of number 1 and number 2.

I recommend a sheet of sticker dots, I add to a bauble every time it is stolen to keep track of the number of times because… a bauble can only be ‘stolen’ three times!

And so it goes on, with each subsequent person in the numbered order getting a wider choice of opened baubles to ‘steal’ from the other players – or of course they can choose, unseen baubles by taking a wrapped one from decreasing number in the middle.

Remember – each bauble can only be ‘stolen’ three times. And yes, you can steal the same bauble back if the opportunity arises! The person who steals it for the 3rd time gets to keep it and it goes home with them.

And that’s the how the Bauble game rolls. Throw in some festive cocktails and I promise you a great night will be had by all.

Here’s some of my favourite festive cocktails all recipes are available from the food and drinks experts at The Mixer, a new all-in-one destination for drinkspiration!

If you’re a parent, chances are you’re constantly on the go and never have much downtime. Getting ready for the day, in particular, can take a lot of time, leaving little to tend to your personal needs. Most mums don’t have time to fix their hair and makeup in the morning because of how hectic the day usually begins. The good news is that even if you’re a busy mum with little time to spare, you can still make yourself look amazing with these quick and easy beauty hacks. Read on to find out more.

Your Hair

If you’re tired of trying to pull your hair back into the same uninteresting ponytail every day, try this easy hairstyle to change things. You can shampoo your hair the night before, so you don’t have to waste time in the morning. Let your hair dry on its own, and any natural curls will stay in place. Spray your hair with water in the morning to make it damp. Then, put mousse on small sections of your hair. You can tangle your hair with your hands. You’ll end up with waves that look casual and natural. You don’t have to use a curling iron. Just let your hair wave naturally and apply a bit of hair spray to keep the waves in place all day. If your hair gets greasy overnight, you can spray some dry shampoo on your scalp to make it look clean and add some volume.

If you find that you’re pulling lots of hair out in your hands when you try this style, don’t panic. Most of the time, this is normal, but if you think it’s too much, it’s wise to speak to a doctor and try medication for hair loss from Chemist Click to see if things improve.

Under Your Eyes

If you have extra time in the morning, use it to take care of your eyes. Since most mothers are tired and don’t get enough sleep, the area around their eyes usually needs the most care. Get a great concealer that matches your skin tone so you can hide any bags or dark circles under your eyes. This will make your face look brighter and less tired than it really is.

Choose an eye shadow colour that looks natural and goes well with your eyes, and put it on quickly before you leave the house. The eye shadow will give your eyes a little contrast and give you the confidence boost you want without having to take hours on your makeup.

Get Glowing Skin

Try this trick if you are so short on time that you can’t even spare a few minutes to put on makeup. Apply a tinted moisturiser to your face and neck in the morning when you’re in a hurry to get ready. Your face will look fresh and hydrated, and you will have a healthy glow from the inside. This can even make you appear younger because it will hide wrinkles and dark circles under your eyes. Just make sure that the tint in the moisturiser goes well with your skin. If it doesn’t, your face will be a different colour than your neck, which will look odd.

Healthy Halloween Recipes from the World Avocado Organization

With Halloween just around the corner, the spooky season is upon us. What comes to mind when we think of Halloween? Crazy costumes, pumpkin lanterns and of course, sweet treats. But besides the witches, ghosts and vampires, what can be a little frightening is how much sugar there is in a handful of trick-or-treat goodies. While Halloween is a day for indulgence, parents seeking to diffuse the sugar rush with some healthier options should look no further than the avocado.

With its bright green colour, unique texture and incredible versatility, the avocado lends itself fantastically to an array of tasty low-sugar Halloween recipes that both kids and adults will enjoy. What’s more, aside from their great taste, avocados are also packed with important nutrients including healthy monounsaturated fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals. So whether you’re planning a Halloween party, or you simply want to get the kids involved in preparing some devilishly delicious and nutritious Halloween dishes, here are four fun recipe ideas from the World Avocado Organization.

Remove the leaves from the cauliflower and cut a slice from the top (opposite side of the stem) so it can stand upside down. Remove as much of the tough stem as you can to create space while keeping the head in one piece.

Fill the cauliflower ‘bowl’ with guacamole and serve with the tortilla crackers.

Having a computer in the home that the kids can use is essential to help them develop computer skills from a young age. It’s not too difficult to walk into a local computer store and pick something suitable out of the range, but there are other things you should consider too. Let’s have a quick look at a few of them.

Should You Get a Laptop or a Desktop?

Choosing a laptop here might at first seem like the obvious choice, but it isn’t that simple. A desktop computer isn’t very portable, but it can be cheaper and can have better graphics performance according to this article on Lenovo.com. A laptop, on the other hand, offers the portability for kids to work on their schoolwork in their own space.

The big advantage of a desktop computer for the family is that they are less prone to accidental damage by dropping and a spilt drink is likely to only destroy the keyboard and not the whole computer. So, in general for younger kids, a desktop computer is a safer choice. Teenagers, however, are likely at or reaching an age where they’ll want their own computer, so a laptop is probably a better option, especially considering that they take up much less space, and can be taken to school if they need to be.

Install the Right Software

The family computer is likely going to be used for a variety of things, like schoolwork or learning and education, so having the right software on it is a must. You’ll almost certainly want to install Microsoft Office, but there are other pieces of software you’ll want too. Have a look at a list of the most important software for kids – a lot of it is free or costs very little, and it will infinitely increase the usefulness of the computer.

Find a Place to Put It

If you have a spare room, then converting it into a workspace might be a good idea. It can double up as your home office if you work remotely and it’s free from the noise of the home if your kids need quiet to concentrate on their work. Get a sturdy desk that’s big enough for whichever type of computer you’ve selected, and make sure no wires are dangling where they might be tripped over or pulled as this can cause damage. Get a comfortable and supportive chair for the computer too, because your kids are probably going to be spending a lot of time in front of the screen.

Don’t Forget the Accessories

You’ll want to make sure you pick up some accessories that are vital to a good multimedia family computer. At a minimum, you want a nice set of speakers and a good, affordable printer to print all those school assignments. An ergonomic keyboard and mouse set won’t go amiss either.

There we have it – a few quick and easy things you need to do when it comes to buying a family computer. Your kids are sure to be excited when you bring it home and set it up!

If you have always had an urge to pack up your stuff and move to a new part of the country, there can be some debate with yourself about where you’d like to relocate to. The West Midlands is a strong candidate and well worth your consideration.

This area of the UK has a lot going for it. Many people choose to plant roots here out of love for the area or for practical necessity. Either way, you’d soon learn to appreciate that you could call the West Midlands home.

What are the main reasons to consider living in this region? How easy is it to make progress when there’s so much nationwide drama around housing, to begin with? Read on after the jump.

It’s Affordable

There’s a lot of concern among many people that they’ll never be able to afford a property. It can seem hopeless, especially when rent prices keep increasing.

Considering there’s a cost of living crisis underway as well, it can be helpful to know that there are affordable housing options in the West Midlands to consider. That knowledge alone can give you plenty of hope that you can get on the housing ladder and start building your financial future more sustainably.

Remember, no contract says you must stay in the West Midlands indefinitely, even though you’d be lucky to do so. If you just want to get a foothold on the housing ladder, work remotely or nearby, and one day move onto pastures new, then that’s a valid approach too.

Top Tier Home Survey Help

When you move house, it can feel like there is a lot of uncertainty. A home survey can remove much anxiety, but only if you’re working with a competent service.

GB Home Surveys provide a fast and affordable service in 11 locations across the UK. Consult them if you’re moving to the West Midlands because they know much about the housing market’s stability there and can counsel you accordingly. They’ll ensure the price is right and can give you an in-depth understanding of the condition your favoured property is in following a RICS home survey assessment.

Not only are properties more affordable in the West Midlands, but the process of authenticating the purchase is much more cost effective and efficient too. These services also tailor all of their reports to your requirements, providing personalised service. The stars will soon align if you concentrate your search in the area.

Commuter Friendly

The West Midlands is almost somewhat central on the little island of Great Britain. You can get anywhere from here.

Moreover, the area has major transport networks running through it. The A38 is the second longest road in Britain and winds its way through, starting in Mansfield and heading to Cornwall. Furthermore, you’re never too far from a train station. You can be in London from Staffordshire in an hour or so. It’s easy to stay connected with all the towns and cities in the West Midlands and beyond.

Of course, this can be a comforting thought if you feel you’ll miss friends and family after the move. You can be back with them again in a few hours and with minimum disruption instead of enduring long and gruelling slogs on the commute.
