Chesterfield Dog Training Club provides obedience training for your dogs at all levels.

The club was started over 50 years ago by a group of enthusiastic pet dog owners, whose aim was to train their dogs in basic obedience. At the same time having fun.

These original aims (enhanced a little over the years) still remain at the heart of the club's philosophy today.

That is to:
  • develop pet dog obedience whilst having fun
  • educate owners and handlers in training methodologies
  • promote responsible dog ownership

Knowledge, patience and long term positive reinforcement are the key to a well trained and balanced dog!!

Issues that may be overcome through our training programmes or advice include:

  • Showing aggression to people or other dogs
  • Barking incessantly
  • Jumping up
  • Pulling on the lead
  • Chewing things
  • Recall (come back when called)
  • Eating problems

The club is not a profit organisation, but run by dedicated volunteers whose primary training method is based around calm, assertive, response and reward techniques.

Wednesday Nights Only

  • Puppy Class - 1800 - 1900 hrs
  • Beginner Class - 1900 - 2000 hrs
  • Advanced Class - 2000 - 2100 hrs


Fees

Yearly Membership -

�10 single membership per year or

�10.50 joint membership per year.


Puppy Class -

9 week course at �45, which includes membership.

Beginner and Advanced Class -

"Pay as you train" at �4 per session.

- �10.00]]> <![CDATA[Advanced Class]]> The advanced class is run on a weekly basis, and is for handlers and dogs that have some obedience training. They will have been suitably assessed at intermediate level, too.

Along with reinforcement of skills learned during intermediate classes, training at advanced level includes:
  • walking off lead with positions on the move
  • sit, down (lie) and stand with handler out of sight
  • distance control (dog responds to commands at a distance)
  • send away
  • retrieve
  • scent work
  • recall to include "A" recall

This class will involve mostly off lead work, and as such, handlers need to demonstrate a reasonable degree of control over their dog. However, it is intended that all training should be carried out in a relaxed and fun way for both handlers and dogs.

NO STRICT RULES - NO HARSH ACTIONS OR WORDS - just plenty of praise and positive reward based reinforcement.

An award for successful grading of each disipline is made with a certificate and rosette, presented when all disciplines have been completed.

- �4.00]]> <![CDATA[Beginners Class]]> This class is run on a week by week basis and primarily builds on lessons taught in the puppy class. There is, of course, some refresher training and practice of basic techniques covered within the puppy class. This beginners class is a natural setp up.

The class is an ideal entry level of anyone re-homing or taking in a rescue dog. All the trainers have first hand experience of re-homed or rescue dogs and are happy to help and advise.

This class is also suitable for dogs over 12 months of age, who have had little or no training.

YES you can teach old dogs new tricks!!

Applicable as well to owners who have had little or no experience of training techniques, as all basic commands are covered!
  • walking on a lead without pulling
  • sit for a short time
  • down (lie) for a short time
  • recall on lead, working towards recall off the lead (come when called)
  • leave
  • watch me (attention on handler when potential distractions are around
  • controlled play ...........

All training is by praise and postive reward based learning.

Handlers and dogs are assessed in this class before progressing to the advanced class.

- �4.00]]> <![CDATA[Puppy Class]]> We run a 9 week training course (block booked) for puppies up to 12 months old. The aim of the course is to teach owners how to train their puppies to be happy, well behaved and balanced sociable dogs.

The course covers the following main points:
  • Walking on a lead without pulling
  • Sit
  • Down (lie)
  • Stand
  • Temperament (desensitise allowing examination of key areas e.g. eyes, ears, nose, teeth, paws etc. Vets will love you forever!)
  • Recall (come back when called)
  • Leave
  • Watch me (attention on handler when potential distractions are around)

All done by praise and positive reward based learning; dogs that is, not owners!!

Certificate of completion awarded at the end of the programme.

Puppy Class

If you have just brought a puppy or are thinking about buying one, consider Chesterfield Dog Training Club to help you train him/her. Our obedience trainers Chesterfield concentrate on getting your puppy to listen to their owners in skills such as sit, leave, watch and walk to heal. These are the basics that will give your puppy good obedience skills to last a lifetime.

Our trainers will help you to understand what your puppy is trying to tell you. Sometimes, if we have never had a puppy before, we can quite easily ask too much of our puppies. Like a child, they will play up if they don't know what they are supposed to be doing. At the same time, we will get irritated, because they won't do as they are told.

When training a puppy, we have to be extremely patient. Dog training Chesterfield will help you with this. If you think that your puppy is beyond training, this is never the case. With perseverance and love, you will get your puppy to walk to heal in no time at all.

Our puppy training Chesterfield is a 9-week course. Each week you will be taught something new, and gradually you and your puppy will be happy to work together. Ask as many questions as you wish, if your think you are not progressing as quickly as you think you should be doing. Even dogs in our advanced class still have their off days, just like us. Handlers in higher classes as well as our obedience trainers Chesterfield will be happy to share our stories.
