The Main Street Markham Auto Classic Car Rallyin Support of the T&T Charity Foundation.

This event is a five stage car rally for show participants and other car enthusiasts who wish to participate in a fun, light hearted 90 minute "Sunday Morning Drive" in the local Markham Rd. area.
The event is a combination of some of the more fun aspects of car rallying and includes a Navigational Poker Run with a Scavenger Hunt theme and a few extra surprises to keep the event light hearted and fun for all participants.
Registration for the Rally Component is $50.00 per vehicle with all fees collected going directly to the Thomas & Tallis Charity Foundation supporting programs for youth sport and education in Markham.
Space is limited to the first 40 vehicles, car show participants will depart first and have a reserved location for there vehicle on main street at the completion of the rally.
Prizes will be awarded on the Main Stage to the car (Driver and Navigator) in three categories for the most points collected based on each leg of the course.
The categories are Over All Winner, Vintage Car (Most Points in Class) and an open class Poker Run.

Thornhill Village Festival

You, your family and friends are cordially invited to 31st Annual Thornhill Village Festival on Saturday, September 15th, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Thornhill Village Festival provides a venue for its community groups and citizens to get together to celebrate its heritage and historic community on the streets of Old Thornhill. The 1st Thornhill Festival was held in the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Year of 1977.

To begin the day, there is the Thornhill Village Festival Run. The Run uses the paths and trails of Pomona Valley Park.

View the wonderful community parade and sample the many varieties of food available.

A wide variety of entertainment is provided.

More than 125 crafters and food vendors are placed along the side streets located on both sides of Yonge Street.

The Festival Parade, which involves so many individuals and groups in the community, begins at noon and runs till about 1 p.m.

Yonge Street is completely closed from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Parade. Side streets in the Festival area, including Centre Street, is closed from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Festival Parade highlights its community with performers, antique cars, and bands. Many of the bands will be also performing after the Parade.

Don't miss the recreated action battle scenes by the King’s Royal Yorkers. The battle area is marked off.

There are also beer and wine gardens with entertainment.

Food and beverage stalls will be located throughout the Festival.

Kids can enjoy the children's rides, petting zoo, pony rides, and challenging activities.

The Thornhill Village Festival is organized by the Society For the Preservation of Historic Thornhill.

The Toronto Argonauts and The Centre for Dreams are partnering up for an exciting fundraising event on Thursday July 26th, 2007. For every ticket that is sold, $5.00 will go towards the centre and helping them continue running their educational programs and life skills training.

The Centre for Dreams is a day program for adults living with a developmental challenge and it is their mission to help these individuals continue to live a meaningful and fulfilling life that they otherwise would probably not have. After the age of 21, there is no longer any education provided from the public school system and they virtually have nothing left to do. It is important that we do not forget these very special individuals as they deserve just as much as anyone else, the same respect and opportunities in life.

Everyone is welcome to celebrate Sunday, July 1st in Markham with a day-long free program for the community.

The day begins with a Citizenship Court at the Civic Centre at 9:30 a.m., with Markham recognizing the many people who have chosen to make Markham their home in Canada. The seniors luncheon takes place at Le Parc.

The focus shifts to Milne Park with an afternoon and evening of events.

4 p.m. ~ People's Parade from Markville Shopping Centre to Milne Park
4:30 p.m. ~ Flag Raising Ceremony and singing of O Canada

Markham's "Many Faces" Concert Will Put Diversity At Centre Stage - April 15, 2007

Markham, ON-Racial harmony will be in the spotlight at the ninth annual Many Faces of Markham concert, featuring musical and dance performances, on Sunday, April 15, 2007. Sponsored by the Town of Markham's Race Relations Advisory Committee, this year's concert theme is "Living Diversity," in honour of the multicultural fabric of Markham.

A highlight of the event is Guest Speaker Dr. Jean Augustine, Fairness Commissioner for the Province of Ontario.

This year's concert features music and dance performances from professional and community groups with a diversity of background. The groups include: Jayadevan's Sariga Creations, Ritmik (African Drums), Nrutha Kala Kendra, and solo performers; Lisa Pinnock Fernandes, Nicole Leigh Bennett, Sarah Yoshida, Mark Braithwaite, Jenna Burke, Rob Davies, Ishwaria Chandrabala and Victoria Chan. These talented artists will take centre stage at the Markham Theatre for Performing Arts, 171 Town Centre Blvd., Markham.

"Being one of the most diverse communities in Canada, Markham is a great example of diversity in action," said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "The strength of our future lies in recognizing the energy, determination and talents of everyone who makes Markham their home. We celebrate our differences and acknowledge our similarities, interacting with each other in mutual respect to foster racial harmony."

Census data from Statistics Canada reports that about 56 per cent of Markham residents (of its more than 265,000 population) are visible minorities – making it the municipality with the second highest proportion of visible minorities in Canada.

During the event, Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Dr. Jean Augustine, Members of Markham Council and the Race Relations Advisory Committee will present awards to students from area schools who have earned literary and arts awards through competitions held by the Many Faces of Markham Organizing Committee.

The Town's Race Relations Committee promotes and increases the recognition of the richness of Markham's diverse cultures through events, seminars and concerts such as this one. The Many Faces of Markham celebration acknowledges March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, as designated by the United Nations and proclaimed by Markham Council.

James Wilson Morrice and Tom Thomson were two outstanding Canadian artists who earned national and international attention for their work; two great painters who could found inspiration in entirely different parts of the world. Thomson's iconic status as a painter of the Canadian landscape is enriched by the mythology and mystery surrounding his death by drowning in his beloved Algonquin Park. Morrice, a Canadian who left the country to live in France, savoured the landscape of the great city of Paris, painting the lively and captivating scenes of city life. The 4th edition of the Toronto Photography Marathon gets underway
from the Metro Hall Rotunda on Saturday February 17th at 12 noon.

Over 100 photographers are expected to brave the cold and face the
creative challenge - to capture 12 themes in 24 hours, with only one
shot at each theme.

Each marathoner will receive a 12 exposure roll of film and a card
with 12 themes on it. They must return to the Start/Finish line 24
hours later to drop off their exposed film, with each theme shot in
sequence.

A number of cafes around the City have offered to be Warm-Up Spots'
where marathoners will be treated to specials.

Free MFTIP Workshop

The Ontario Forestry Association, in partnership with the Trees Ontario Foundation, is hosting another series of popular woodlot management workshops in 2007.

Landowners with ten acres of forested land or more can find out how to apply for tax relief under the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP), set objectives for their properties, prepare forest stewardship plans and identify local resources to assist them in achieving their management goals.
