The Chevrolet Camaro has been one of GM’s most anticipated new models, and has already seen tremendous success. Outselling the 2010 Ford Mustang has helped give GM and Chevrolet some positive news following bankruptcy restructuring. But with financial troubles still lingering, other Camaro models, including the Convertible and Z28, have been repeatedly taken off the table. But just as the Z28 appeared to be doomed, plans have apparently changed.

According to sources inside General Motors, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is on the table again and is poised for production. The news will certainly be welcomed by Camaro enthusiasts, but powertrain calibration and development is still needed which Virginia Chevrolet dealers predict could hold up production for about one year.

Although details of the new Chevrolet Camaro Z28 are not ready to be released, it will likely feature a distinctive body kit, new hood, spoiler, and of course different wheels. Underneath the restyled hood will reside the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 that currently powers the Cadillac CTS-V says New Jersey Cadillac. Mated to either a six speed manual transmission or available automatic, Chevrolet Trenton expects upwards of 556 horsepower and 0-60 mph times of around 4 seconds.

If the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 does actually reach production, its performance will be staggering thanks to its powerful supercharged engine and its relatively new and light weight Zeta chassis. According to Tysons Corner Chevrolet dealers, a high-performance Camaro powered by a high-output V6 is also rumored to be in the works. Although these models are likely to be stellar performers that will give the competition a run for their money, don’t expect to see either anytime soon.

The Chevrolet Camaro has already seen high demand, but with GM’s financial difficulties, the convertible model has been on-again-and-off-again, much like the high-performance Z28. While the verdict is still out on the latter, the Camaro Convertible is officially back on track and due in 2011.

Earlier reports had suggested that plans for the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible had been scuttled, or at the very least delayed indefinitely. More recent plans according to Cheesetown Chevrolet suggested that GM intended to release the vehicle in early 2011. Now it seems that consumers will finally see the Convertible in showrooms as early as Q2 2011.

Although demand for the reincarnated Chevy Camaro has been intense at Chevrolet Service Cherry Hill, financial troubles are the sole reason for the Convertible’s delay. But with restructuring now behind them, and with the guidance of government oversight, the New GM is now moving forward with production on the much-anticipated Camaro Convertible.

Fans of the Camaro like Used Chevrolet Chantilly customers will no doubt be eager to get their hands on the latest Camaro Convertible. The back and forth on whether the Camaro Convertible would be produced has certainly frustrated plenty of enthusiasts, but let’s just hope it stays on track.

* * *

Despite the desire to produce the Chevy Camaro Convertible, don’t expect it any time soon.

When the Chevrolet Volt launches it will be capable of 230 miles per gallon according to General Motors. The results are based on an all-new test developed by the EPA for the fuel economy of ultra efficient plug-in electric vehicles.

The announcement of Chevrolet Volt’s expected EPA fuel rating comes amid sweeping changes at GM. The automaker made a series of announcements recently, including the addition of new small Cadillac models to be slotted below the CTS says Cadillac dealers in Philadelphia. Additionally, GM will also be diving into a promotion with eBay Motors to sell Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC vehicles online.

As one Ohio Chevrolet dealer points out, coming up with a fuel mileage rating for an electric car is not an easy task. GM has been working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency for years to determine how to attribute values to such vehicles. That being said, the Chevy Volt is still a ways off from showrooms, and the EPA has yet to officially test the Volt to confirm its expected 230 mpg.

The Chevrolet Volt is capable of driving 40 miles without using any gasoline. According to a Chevy dealer specializing in used cars Cleveland, it is only when that distance is reached that the gas engine is activated to charge the onboard batteries. For those driving under 40 miles, gas mileage is essentially unlimited. It’s estimated that once the gasoline engine is engaged, the Volt could earn a 50 mpg mileage rating, but that figure will not be included in the overall rating since the car would have to already have covered the first 40 miles before gasoline was needed.

For more information, see the full press release from GM below.

* * *

WARREN, Mich. — The Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle is expected to achieve city fuel economy of at least 230 miles per gallon, based on development testing using a draft EPA federal fuel economy methodology for labeling for plug-in electric vehicles.

The Volt, which is scheduled to start production in late 2010 as a 2011 model, is expected to travel up to 40 miles on electricity from a single battery charge and be able to extend its overall range to more than 300 miles with its flex fuel-powered engine-generator.

“From the data we’ve seen, many Chevy Volt drivers may be able to be in pure electric mode on a daily basis without having to use any gas,” said GM Chief Executive Officer Fritz Henderson. “EPA labels are a yardstick for customers to compare the fuel efficiency of vehicles. So, a vehicle like the Volt that achieves a composite triple-digit fuel economy is a game-changer.”

According to U.S. Department of Transportation data, nearly eight of 10 Americans commute fewer than 40 miles a day.

“The key to high-mileage performance is for a Volt driver to plug into the electric grid at least once each day,” Henderson said.

Volt drivers’ actual gas-free mileage will vary depending on how far they travel and other factors, such as how much cargo or how many passengers they carry and how much the air conditioner or other accessories are used. Based on the results of unofficial development testing of pre-production prototypes, the Volt has achieved 40 miles of electric-only, petroleum-free driving in both EPA city and highway test cycles.

Under the new methodology being developed, EPA weights plug-in electric vehicles as traveling more city miles than highway miles on only electricity. The EPA methodology uses kilowatt hours per 100 miles traveled to define the electrical efficiency of plug-ins. Applying EPA’s methodology, GM expects the Volt to consume as little as 25 kilowatt hours per 100 miles in city driving. At the U.S. average cost of electricity (approximately 11 cents per kWh), a typical Volt driver would pay about $2.75 for electricity to travel 100 miles, or less than 3 cents per mile.

The Chevrolet Volt uses grid electricity as its primary source of energy to propel the car. There are two modes of operation: Electric and Extended-Range. In electric mode, the Volt will not use gasoline or produce tailpipe emissions when driving. During this primary mode of operation, the Volt is powered by electrical energy stored in its 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

When the battery reaches a minimum state of charge, the Volt automatically switches to Extended-Range mode. In this secondary mode of operation, an engine-generator produces electricity to power the vehicle. The energy stored in the battery supplements the engine-generator when additional power is needed during heavy accelerations or on steep inclines.

“The 230 city mpg number is a great indication of the capabilities of the Volt’s electric propulsion system and its ability to displace gasoline,” said Frank Weber, global vehicle line executive for the Volt. “Actual testing with production vehicles will occur next year closer to vehicle launch. However, we are very encouraged by this development, and we also think that it is important to continue to share our findings in real time, as we have with other aspects of the Volt’s development.”

While General Motors may be reconsidering their model lineup, one model that is likely to remain unscathed is the Chevrolet Corvette. Despite changing new car demand, and certainly less interest in sports cars, the Chevy Corvette remains a popular American performance icon and retains a loyal following of Vette enthusiasts.

Highlighting the importance of the Chevrolet Corvette, GM announced that the Bowling Green Assembly facility has completed more than 1,500,000 Corvettes. This is a huge milestone for the plant according to Saginaw Used Cars, and certainly is an indication of how important the Corvette continues to be despite setbacks. Detroit Chevrolet Corvette dealers say the news also came on the same day that GM released pricing for the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport. The Grand Sport Coupe will begin at $55,720 and pricing for the Grand Sport Convertible will be begin at $59,530.

With a zero to 60 mph time of less than four seconds and the ability to pull 1.0g on the skid pad, Dayton Chevrolet repair specialists contest that the Chevy Corvette Grand Sport is an impressive value considering its performance strengths. What may be even more impressive is that the new Corvette manages to get 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Chevrolet Corvette remains a popular fixture of GM’s product lineup. With 1.5 million Corvettes built, it’s certainly evident that the Corvette is truly an icon. In helping the company rebuild its brand and its image, expect the company to promote this popular product further, emphasizing the Corvette’s history, performance, and value.

* * *

Chevrolet Corvette enthusiasts can relax, the Vette won’t be going anywhere.

Although the Chevrolet Volt has dominated discussions and plans concerning the future lineup at the “New GM,” it seems as though GM has more elaborate plans beyond this highly-anticipated electric vehicle. New reports suggest that a new high-mpg hybrid is also in the works that will be a dedicated hybrid model. This model will likely fill the gap caused by the outgoing Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.

Hybrids have not seen significant success within GM’s lineup. While Saginaw Chevrolet says the Chevrolet Malibu in particular has been successful overall, it has failed to attract buyers to the Hybrid model. One problem with these mild hybrid offerings is that they are simply not efficient enough. Having a dedicated hybrid that is designed and engineered for efficiency appears to be the ideal solution, as seen by the popular Toyota Prius.

While a dedicated hybrid will likely give Chevrolet the high-efficiency it needs within its model range, the idea is not without disadvantages admits a Dayton Used Cars. While an ultra efficient car is needed in the near-term, building a dedicated hybrid is certainly more time consuming than building a hybrid based on a pre-existing gasoline powered model.

Due to recent emissions requirements, one Michigan Chevrolet dealer recognizes that a dedicated hybrid is essential to Chevrolet. Not only is efficientcy a priority among consumers, but the government demands a lower fleet-wide fuel consumption average. With GM hoping to introduce a new rear-wheel drive Caprice based on the Pontiac G8, as well as the high performance Camaro Z28, the dedicated hybrid is needed sooner rather than later to offset these potential lower mileage vehicles.

* * *

Chevrolet hybrids and EVs are coming soon. Stay tuned.

As recently as June, sources close to GM have said that the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 remained on the table and was in production. However, Ohio Chevrolet dealers point out that Lutz has since suggested that high-performance could be harnessed from V6 powertrains. Specifically citing the Solstice coupe for its light body and fuel efficient yet powerful engine, the Camaro may retain smaller engines that feature more innovative design.

The proposed Chevrolet Camaro Z28 was likely going to feature a revamped LS-derived V8 says Chevrolet dealers in New Orleans. Initially the Z28 was to be pushed behind the Convertible which according to Salt Lake City Used Cars placed its launch in early 2011. Although some reports have suggested that the design was complete, the ultimate decision to hold off on the car was due to the substantial costs for the automaker per unit.

Based on the performance from the LSA-powered Cadillac CTS-V which can sprint to 60 mph in a mere 4 seconds, the Chevy Camaro Z28 would no doubt be a stunning performer. Another factor that will hinder the development of the Z28 is the latest lineup-wide emissions regulations, which would pose challenges for GM as they strive to increase overall miles per gallon figures.

The never ending saga of the Chevy Camaro Z28 continues.

Sources at General Motors have revealed that following the demise of the Pontiac brand, the G8 will continue to live on as a part of the Chevrolet lineup. More specifically, the Pontiac G8 will soon become the Chevrolet Caprice. Although it hasn’t been a stellar seller, clearly GM has not yet given up on this sporty rear-wheel drive sedan.

The current Pontiac G8 is based on a vehicle from Holden, which is GM’s Australian subsidiary. The G8 is also available in a high-performance GXP version, which Cincinnati Used Cars says would not doubt add more excitement to the Chevy lineup. As Chevrolet has had a history of performance vehicles, GM executives believe that the G8 will be ideal within the Chevy lineup.

The upcoming Chevrolet Caprice will be a larger vehicle, more so than the current Malibu. The performance-oriented 415 horsepower GXP may also be retained, which one East Hartford collision center suggests would essentially act as a five passenger Corvette. Another option for the Caprice is for it to be used as a law enforcement vehicle.

While it seems destined to sit atop the Chevrolet lineup, the upcoming Caprice does pose challenges admits Ellwood City Auto Repair. The biggest of which is the strict fleet-wide CAFE emissions standards that will need to be observed, and a large V8-powered sedan will make meeting those restrictions a little more difficult.

American automakers have long had to do things differently when it came time to sell cars to Europeans. With higher gas prices and more confined spaces, European drivers have demanded vehicles with different powertrains, different dimensions, and different styling compared with the demands of American drivers. But with small, fuel efficient cars in demand in the U.S., it seems that demands are aligning, which is why some European-only models such as the Ford Focus are finally venturing to the States.

One unique design for American drivers that will be heading across the pond is the all-new Chevrolet Camaro. As a vehicle that’s already off to an amazing start in the U.S. at Fredericksburg Chevrolet and other retail locations, Chevrolet appears to be preparing its release to performance enthusiasts in Europe as well where it will launch at some point next year.

Interestingly, plans to launch the Camaro in Europe are not necessarily new. But across the pond, the Chevrolet brand is vastly different says Peoria Chevrolet as it’s known more for offering “cheap” cars than for performance cars. As a result, the idea of selling Camaros under a different brand may have been considered, but appears to be unlikely at this point.

With GM hoping to expand the Chevrolet lineup in Europe in the next couple years, Cincinnati Chevrolet expects the Camaro will play a large role in the brand’s changing image. However, supply and demand constraints will also play a role in the Camaro’s availability to European customers as demand in the U.S. remains extremely strong.

General Motors has been using the upcoming Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid to hype the automaker’s eco-friendliness for quite some time. Even though it won’t be available until late next year, the Volt has been seen in numerous marketing campaigns, as well as auto shows, and it remains an important vehicle in GM’s near future. As such, GM has already begun spinning the Volt as something very different than its more established hybrid competition.

Unlike other hybrid sedans, GM is positioning the Chevrolet Volt as a sportier alternative to hybrid mainstays, such as the Toyota Prius and the new Honda Insight. Although on paper there is not much to backup this claim, Chevy Auto Parts Birmingham suggest that the Volt will surely offer sportier on-road dynamics.

No hybrid vehicle currently on the market is regularly referred to as “sporty.” While the all-new Honda Insight and the all-new Toyota Prius offer plenty of fun features and characteristics, one used car dealer Peoria says that both are about efficiency at their core, and do not offer the handling or power that would help categorize them as performance-oriented.

Although calling the Chevrolet Volt sporty is easier said than proven, it could be quite advantageous for GM considering its lack of a green image. One advantage that the Volt will have over the Prius and the Insight upon its launch will be its fuel economy according to Chevrolet Service Saginaw, since the Volt will be capable of covering 40 miles on electric power alone.

As one of GM’s most important new models, the release of the Chevrolet Volt has actually been moved up to its current late 2010 release date. Although that may seem a ways off, expect plenty more advertising featuring the Volt soon.

Like the upcoming Chevy Volt, the release of the Chevrolet Equinox will be closely watched as GM desperately needs popular models to boost sales at dealerships and put consumer perceptions back on track. The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is almost here, but already a new hybrid model is said to become available for the 2011 model year.

With General Motors facing major financial challenges, it has been forced to get rid of a number of brands under its huge umbrella. One of these brands is Saturn, which includes the Saturn Vue Hybrid SUV. As one of the most affordable hybrid SUVs available, the Salt Lake City service and parts specialists believe that GM realized the same system should also be implemented within the upcoming Equinox to better provide the fuel efficiency that consumers demand.

With Saturn’s sale to Penske Automotive Group, GM realized they needed the technology behind the Vue hybrid, and upcoming Volt plug-in hybrid, to reduce fleetwide fuel economy and appease eco-conscious car buyers. Luckily says Louisville Auto Loans, even despite Saturn’s sale, the automaker will retain the technology and utilize it quickly for the upcoming Equinox and other vehicles.

For 2011, the Chevrolet Equinox will feature a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a two-mode hybrid drive system. The new system will differ slightly from the existing system featured in the Saturn Vue according to one used car dealer Hartford because the Equinox’s engine is a larger than the Vue’s 3.0-liter unit.

The engine for the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox hybrid will be mated to an Electrically Variable Transmission (EVT). This transmission us currently used by other hybrids within GM’s lineup, such as the Chevy Tahoe and Silverado pickup. With hybrid SUVs costing significantly more than gasoline-only models, it’s hard to predict how successful the Equinox will be. After all, just look at the Vue hybrid’ sales.

* * *

GM’s next generation Chevy compact crossover continues the automaker’s drive towards greater fuel efficiency.
