My wife- Julie
My children- Sabrina and Griffin
My brother- Jason
"The ducks on Mars are Yelllow"- a phrase I am determined to get the entire world to say.
"Snow Shovels"- during the blizzard of 2010, we never ran out, I kept buying and buying and now I have more than the entire state of Florida. So the running joke is what the heck do I do with them, especially since I keep buying more every time it snows so I can say I never run out of them.
"kumquat scale"- 1 is bad 5 is the best, again my way of making things fun.
"syfi channel" - I am not afraid to admit that I like the movies on syfi.
"tiki torches"- just to have something other than snow shovels
pizza- my favorite food.
Julie's Gift: Memories of London- my book I wrote for my wife about our trip to london
Thats it for now, remember our page is just for fun, if you like it, tell others as our goal is to get to 10,319.43 fans.
"my strange numbers that I pick"- just to have fun
Thanks, Kevin

Don't forget we will open at 8:30 a.m. on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. So our hours on those days will be 8:30am-8:00pm and we are closed on Thanksgiving day (Yes, I know, everybody is open. However, Jason and I enjoy spending the day with our families and there is nothing I like better then watching football and eating turkey and blueberry pie. I'll put my wife's pie up against anybody's).And just in case you wondering, we should be launching our app for the iphone and droid early next month. We made well over 500 goody bags for everybody and we gave them away even earlier then we anticipated. As we plan for next years party, our goal will be 1,000 goody bags. It looks like that we will really try to start a consulting division of the supermarket. We feel that we do as good a job as any other mom and pop retailer, so why not pass on some of our thoughts to others. While we're at it, I enjoy writing and public speaking so why not start a speaking division. What would we speak on? Basically business is what we know, but life is what we enjoy so no topic is off limits. I would really like to get some feedback on this subject, so email me directly at krkirsch@gmail.com. On a side note, our Facebook page just reached 1,000 fans, so THANK YOU to everybody who helped us reach the 1,000 number. I know sometimes I tend to ramble on and on, but I have fun and hopefully everybody who reads it, gets either a nice chuckle or the information they were looking for. Did you know that I still collect Football and Baseball cards? Football is my true passion, but I tend to be stocking up on Bryce Harper based on all of the buzz about him. Thoughts on Twitter? I tend to be just not the biggest Twitter fan, I dont know why. Maybe because I don't use it enough, maybe I'm too old, or maybe I have so much to say I can't put it into 140 characters. Lastly, have you tried our Bubbie Jeannes Brisket Sauce? It's about to go national, and it's only a matter of time before you will be able to buy it on the east coast or on the west coast. Thanks for listening. Remember you can always call me at Chevy Chase Supermarket, or go to our store website www.chevychasesupermarket.com or vist my book website www.juliesgift.com. If you decide to hire me for a speaking engagement, I will be happy to discount my speaking fees. If you are in need of a consultant, those fees can be discounted if necessary. Just within the last our page has grown by over 125 fans. I'm not sure why. Afterall, my facebook motto is "If you have 20 seconds of your life that you don't need back, then check us out (referring to facebook), you might get a nice chuckle". If anybody has any ideas on how to grow our Chevy Chase Supermarket page, then let me know. I am happy to say that I have one fan in Ireland and 1 fan in Israel. Had a great dinner at Matchbox on Rockville Pike just recently and I'm always surprised at how much I like my dinner at Bealle Street. I just can't bring myself to name the few places that I am not fans of because I wouldn't want anyone to do the same to me. Just sold my 250th copy of my best selling book Julie's Gift: Memories of London which can be bought at Amazon.com or www.juliesgift.com or www.thereadersloft.com And now on to the supermarket. I can honestly say I'm not the biggest fan of Pepco, the last storm cost us well over 6 figures (and even if you have insurance, you don't become whole afterward). We try our best and having everybody in the neighborhood say "thanks" to us means an awful lot. We had a 7pm reservation and what we learned was, don't go on New Years Eve. Our waiter was more concerned with the larger dinner parties that were busy drinking and paid little or virtually no attention to a table of children that were not drinking. This is my favorite restaurant so we know that this does not normally happen. But the kitchen was so busy that both filets were incorrectly cooked (still good, but not how we ordered) and salads must be pre made well ahead of time because it couldn't have been more than 30 seconds from the time the waiter left the table with our order to the time someone else showed up with the salads. How about after dessert was brought to the the table, we waited so long for our check that we needed to flag down another waiter because ours never came back. I'll still go back like I always do, but not on a major holiday. I guess if that is the worse thing that happend in my life, then life is pretty good. This year for orders taken up to 5 days before the holiday, they are running 70% online vs 30% instore. We found out that if you like to avoid the rush or like incentives, that online ordering is for you. If you prefer the old fashion way, then we have learned that these orders come mostly within the last 7 days leading up to the holiday. Would you believe that age is not really a factor in who orders online. We did offer 2-$200.00 store gift certificates and 3-$100.00 cards as incentives to try our new service. Which makes me wonder, how many friends have tried our new website, www.chevychasesupermarket.com where you can order products online and have them shipped UPS to your house. Check it out, it's really a cool option. While your on the website, check out where "our bag" has been, see if yours is one of the ones posted. We bought season tickets for the Washington Nationals (I'm still an O's fan, but I don't like driving to the stadium so I may have to make sure my son grows up a Nationals fan so we can go to those games) and we intend to raffle off every one of these games to friends who shop in our store. Follow our website for details. And finally, if you want to get in good with Kevin, read Julie's Gift: Memories of London, and I'm sure I will be able to make it worth reading. That's it for now, so if you missed and of these websites, here they are again: www.juliesgift.com www.chevychasesupermarket.com thanks, Kevin<strike></strike>

If not, resend a picture so we can get it done. All Halloween pictures will be posted on the website about 2 weeks after the holiday. We will be taking turkey orders online starting the 1st of November. Most important, the tiki torches will be here on Monday. Prices will be approximately 7.99 if the power is on, 19.99 if the power is off, 9.99 if it snows 17.99 if you need it to melt the snow and if your a Facebook follower, 4.99. Snow shovel pricing will be set depending on the temp outside and the chance of snow. From here on this is off subject so if you don't feel like reading anymore, it's OK. Sabrina, have fun with your friends this weekend. You worked hard. Enjoy and have fun at your Bat Mitzvah, we are really proud of you. Well as luck would have it, I'm going to be able to dig myself out of the next snowstorm because someone traded me a brand new snow shovel for a couple of NY Strip Steaks. anybody else up for trading? At this point as the weather is starting too turn colder, it may be time to refocus our attention on suntan lotion, or something else that someone may come up with. However, that will need to wait for another day as I might as well tell you what is happening in the store. We had a new addition to the family the other day, Bundles of Cookies arrived with their cookies as well as Barefoot Contessa products. Not to be out done, Colonial Candle wanted to join the party, so we are just waiting for them to arrive. We are about 2/3 of the way to our goal of 2500 new items for our store. The remaining items will start to arrive in the frozen food, the dairy, and the candy sections (Valrona RSVP'd saying they would be here, were still waiting for Godiva's RSVP). Apparently all the cool people who hang out on the Health and Beauty shelves didn't want to be forgotten so they are bringing their organic and all natural friends in a couple of weeks. To keep things rolling along, local winerys such as Sugarloaf didn't want to be forgotten either. Just a quick thought, today is the last day to enter to win tickets to Sundays Redskin vs Colt game. What else, Aviva Goldfarbs cookbook, The Six O'Clock Scramble is now 30% off, and all othercookbooks are 10% off. As always if there is a product you are looking for, just email one of our key sales people directly at connormg07@comcast.net. We have given the authorization for any product that is emailed directly to them. Finally, if you have an unusual idea for me that you think would work, lets talk. We have brought in close to 932 new items. After waiting to make sure that some of the items we were moving would not be put in wrong spots, we went ahead and made some radical moves. Peanut Butter and Jelly is now located next to the bread and in another extreme move, ice cream toppings can be found near the ice cream. Should you need pancakes and syrup, you will no longer find them next to the spices, try next to the hot cereals and oatmeals. Matter a fact, the oil is now located next to the vinegar which is now next to the salad dressings. Polenta and mash potatoes decided to move next to the canned vegetables, while the energy bars tripled in size and moved next to the gatorade. Still to come. A new and expanded section of cookbooks, with a big emphasis on local authors. Maybe Aviva Goldfarb will stop by for a personal signing with some other local authors. A large and expanded section of candles. Valrona and Godiva chocolates. K cups and K cup coffee makers. Organic health and beauty items. The start of our 81 game raffle of Washington National baseball tickets. An expanded organic frozen food section. Plus the launch of our new website where you will be able to order your Thanksgiving turkey online as well as having groceries delivered by UPS to your house. And finally as winter approaches, we will shift our attention from shovels to suntan lotion. If were start soon at SPF 1 we should be able to cover everything up to SPF 100. If you have an item we don't carry, email directly one of our key sales people at connormg07@comcast.net . If you know of a local business which you think we should either advertise with or carry their products, let us know. If there is an opening at a radio station where I can be a radio announcer, let me know. Should you know any local authors, tell them to bring their books to our store. If their is a special snow shovel which you want me o get for you, let me know. If your still reading all of this, email me krkirsch@gmail.com or put something on the store website so I can properly thank you for being one of the 987 people to read this. The store reset is started. We are moving out the old slower selling items and starting to move other items around in the store. PB and J will be moving from aisle 7 to aisle 1 next to the bread. Powdered drink mixes will move from aisle 4 to next to the 24 pack water. Pancake and syrup will move from aisle 6 to aisle 4 next to the oatmeal. Power bars will be moving upfront next to the registers and we will move the other energy bars next to the gatorade. These are just some of the initial moves. More info to follow as we move along. By the way. we picked up a couple of season tickets to the Nationals for next year. If your kids haven't been to game, let me know. We're basically going to raffle off a good chunk of the tickets. On a personal note, I take my first helicopter ride next week (a small 2 seater with no doors on it). Thats it, as always, thank you. First, we have targeted Tuesday Oct.4th as the day we start to bring in the first of our potential 1,000 new items. Many of you have emailed our new company directly with your requests. So, if you have something you are looking for, email connormg07@comcast.net with any item that we currently do not carry, but you would like us to carry. Our new sandwich card program starts today, so don't forget to get your card punched next time you buy a sandwich. And by the way, ask at the store for one of the cards. If your still reading this far, feel free to take me up on the $1.99 snow shovel special, (I can only offer this to first 23 1/2 people) or ask to have our NY Strip Steaks reweighed at 6.99lb, just ask any manager and tell them it's in Kevin's blog. Lets make this offer good thru Saturday the Sept. 25th with a limit of 5lbs. What else? For those with smaller children who might ride the horse, you may find one or two new items in the store within the next two weeks, that might just rival the horse. We are redesinging our website, so look for our new website to start in three weeks with alot of new and really cool features. On a personal note, I plan on going skydiving on Thursday October 28th. If you have any thoughts or ideas on this, please let me know. Thanks. Remember you can always email me directly if you have any questions krkirsch@gmail.com . We are switching specialty food vendors. What this really means is we are going to put a much greater emphasis on organic grocery, dairy and frozen food items. In addition, we will also be bring in a large amount of gluten free items. We don't want to miss anything, so it's OK to email our salesperson (connormg07@comcast.net)directly with any items that we do not carry, but you would like us to bring in. By emailing them directly, their will be no chance of any type of miscommunication. We have instructed them to acquire as many items as possible that fit in with our store. So please excuse the mess as we start to reorganize the store in the next few weeks. If for some reason we remove an item that you like, just tell us or email them and ask them to restock the item. It's really that simple. If your in the store and you don't see either Kevin or Jason, you can always use the new "feedback phone" located upfront by the windows to leave a message. The message says customer service will follow through, and since I'm customer service, you don't have to worry. Wow, I'm looking outside and I see snow flurries. So thats about it, lets end it with this to see if anybody is really reading my blog. Go to Amazon, buy the book (by now everybody should know the book Julie's Gift: Memories of London)and not only will I autograph it for free, but I will do one better, I will autograph a coupon that says get 1 fresh Hillside Turkey during Thanksgiving week for half price. Now I am going to need to limit this offer to the first 87 different families. And unfortunately its just one per family. So thats it, here all the impoortant websites again. www.chevychasesupermarket.com www.juliesgift.com www.bubbiejeannes.com Thanks, Kevin<strike></strike>

Congratulations Renee. We are going to be doing much more of this in the future. All sports. The only catch is you will need to follow us on facebook to find out how to enter. The easiest way, if yoy don't do facebook, is to go to our website www.chevychasesupermarket.com and click on the link for Facebook. Maybe this could also be the marketing ploy to get my book going, Julie's Gift: Memories of London. By the way, www.juliesgift.com is the website for the book. One other thing, don't forget to vote in the elction on Tuesday, we like Darren Popkin for sheriff. He worked at Chevy Chase Supermarket while in high school and college and who was a very good friend of our father, Walter Kirsch. In additon, my vice principal and of my very good friends, Fred Evans is running for city council. So don't forget to vote for at least these two if you have no one else in mind that you were thinking about. If you have actually read this far, I think you should somehow tell me (hint, facebook post) so I can thank you correctly. Do not worry, I will not thank you with a snow shovel, I will do it correctly. One last thing, on Monday Sept. 13th we will be doing a store newsletter by email, again. The whole point of this newsletter we are sending is to remind you to go to www.bethesdamagazine.com and to click on the Best of Bethesda link. You will need to answer at least 20 questions to make your vote count, but one of the questions is "Best Neighborhood Market" and "Best Neighborhood Pharmacy", please vote for us. Thanks again. Kevin Kirsch. krkirsch@gmail is my direct email in case you ever need me.
