The 1967 Corvette is a hugely popular vintage car that will certainly send tingles down the spines of Corvette followers everywhere. The C2 Corvette ended up being between the years of 1963 and its final year of 1967. The 1967 was easily the smoothest driving Sting Ray to be placed on the market by Chevrolet.

Powered by Max Banner Ads

The 1967 Corvette is regarded by many to be the greatest Corvette ever. This 1967 model year was a second-generation representative of the Chevrolet Corvettes. With it being called the Sting Ray, one of the most common errors that folks make is confusing it with the C3 or third-generation Corvette Stingray that happened to run from 1968 to 1982. It’s unquestionably different. Second generation Corvettes offer an aura about them that any time you experience it, you will never forget it.

The 1967 Corvette wheelbase of the convertible as well as the coupe models ended up being both 98 inches. Length was 175.1 inches. The width of the 1967 Corvette was 69.6 inches. The curb weight was 3360 pounds for both the coupe and the convertible. The standard axle ratio was 3.55.1. The small block V-8 came back as well as the 390 big block that jutted out the hood scoop.

The 1967 Corvette included 11 inch disc brakes on the front and back. It came with a standard three speed manual tranny, however you could possibly select a four speed manual or a 2 speed powerglide.

Some of the options involved features such as leather-based seats, power windows, headrests, soft Ray tinted glass, auxiliary hardtop, shoulder belts, air conditioning (amazingly only 3788 people added this option), vinyl covering, positraction rear axle, special front and rear end suspension, air injection reactor, transistor ignition system, heavy-duty brakes, the 390, 400, 435, 350, and 430 hp engines, aluminum cylinder heads on the L71, four speed manual transmission (close ratio or heavy-duty), powerglide tranny, 36 gallon fuel tank on the coupe, off-road exhaust system, side mount exhaust system, telescopic steering column, power steering, cast aluminum bolt on wheels, redline tires, speed warning indicator, AM/FM radio.

The L88 had several options that were mandatory by Chevrolet include transistorized ignition, positrain, power brakes, and a heavy-duty suspension system. You will possibly not believe this, but only 20 of these cars were sold new in 1967. You have to think that those people were the ones that love power. Heck, they were only $1500 over the base price, but now they are very expensive and uncommon cars on today’s market.

The year of 1967 was the year in which Corvette’s sales drop by 5000 units, due to a new redesign that was coming out. However, the 67 Corvette is considered one of the quintessential collector cars of all time. Its impact on the car collecting world has been tremendous.

It is critical that any time that you're purchasing a used Corvette that you know everything that you can about that car. Vintage Corvettes are particularly pricey and you ought to know what you are looking at.

Make sure that when that you’re purchasing a used Corvette that you have an understanding of everything that you can about that vehicle. Antique Corvettes are very expensive and you should know what you’re looking at.

An classic Corvette is going to cost much more than the normal classic automobile, so you really should know a lot when you’re out trying to find that special Corvette that you have always wanted. Bear in mind that the selling prices on some Corvettes are certainly not for the faint at heart. The fact is, old classic Corvettes are rather pricey, sometimes costing more than a new house.

It really is terrible to say, but the truth is for no reason need to believe unxonditionally the seller that it is totally genuine. Not all classic Corvettes have been correctly reconditioned with authenticity as their intended purpose.

Some Corvettes are obviously just worth a lot more than other cars. It absolutely is crucial that you understand the background of the Corvette that you’re considering acquiring. It’s critical that you research to determine what the appreciation value in recent times of the vehicle you are looking at has been. Furthermore remember that there have been bad Corvettes, such is the 1983 and 1984 model years. The 1983 design with so lousy that it didn’t even make the sales floor of Chevrolet dealerships (there is a prototype of that year but you most likely will never get that). Many people refer to it as the missing Corvette!

When looking at classic cars and the resale valuation on the Corvette, you will generally discover that the automobiles that fall between the years of 1953 through 1972 retain the most value in the market. Having said that, it isn’t necessarily just about monetary value when you are looking at old classic Corvettes. If you had a specific Corvette as a teenager, that make and model has a special value to you personally.

The most important thing to consider when shopping for a retro Corvette, is to really know your stuff and get what you want and can pay for, because there are some Corvettes on the market that you simply can’t afford unless of course you’re Warren Buffett! Have fun out there Corvette hunting!

The 1980 year was filled with corvette and was considered as the survivor with the old days. These days’ autos like chrvettes and pintos rule the world; yet, corvette was something memorable for the car owners back then. It always reminded that in those days the corvette had no room to stay. The people then never preferred vehicles like the corvette. It had wonderful exteriors though just like that with the sports auto and also had good mileage and efficiency in the fuel usage. This informative article has some basic 1980 corvette information which could be useful.

This information however tells little trivial information regarding the automobile like its origin, the various types of the auto, the features it possessed, the size, power and also its production.

First we shall look into how this automobile originated , then about its types. Thirdly we shall see few with the distinguished features available in this auto. Size details and power requirements are also seen in detail. Finally we will see about its production and performance.

1980 type of Corvette belonged to 3rd generation autos. This automobile was originally designed by Larry Shinoda in the year 1964. Till the year 1980 the looks with the automobile remained contemporary. One of many remarkable characteristics with the auto was that it had two engines of different size. However the second engine was not very large. Initially the automobile came as coupe. Later it followed the code of sports auto with two seats. These cars were more performance based but lacked comfort as it did not have cup holder.

Now lets see few of its characteristics. The 1980 model had facility for air conditioning and had even power windows. The steering wheel was tilt telescopic type. It also came with many optional characteristics like power locks for doors, heavy duty and powerful shock absorbers , control for cruise and wheels made up of alloyed aluminum that was resistant to corrosion. The audio system was also good with stereo and cassette and could play both AM and FM. There was speakers fitted in the rear side also. There was a carrier for roof panel. The wheel base measured 98 inches. The Corvette was 186 inches long and its width was 70 inches. Its height was 48 inches. The total weight on the curbside was 3200 pounds. The scraping of asphalt formed the ground clearance and was 4.5 to 5 inches

This automobile was in production in 50 states of USA. In all 49 states except in California the horse power rated was 190 or 220. only in California 305 model the generated power was around 180. Other models had 350 inch cube of V8 whereas in California alone it was 305 inches. This type had manifold made of stainless steel whereas in 350 version the intake manifold was made up of Aluminum. Transmission was automatic in 305 models whereas five speed manual existed in 350 type giving 190 power

These automobiles were difficult to maintain. Thus the weights of the automobile were decreased. As a result the panels and doors were made of light weighed materials. It was not thick. But the performance with the engines was just like rated before.

Thus the article 1980 corvette information would have given you details about that automobile. Getting luxurious cars is not very tough. But the most important part is the maintenance of it. One has to realize that proper working of any system will require the correct maintenance of it. For this you should have proper knowledge about the things you possess. Owning a vehicle is also similar. It not only requires talent to drive, but also the patience to maintain it. To maintain and safe guard an old auto for its memory also is a great talent which many do not have.

The 2005 Corvette was quickly proclaimed by several critics and enthusiasts as the best Corvette of all times.

The 2005 Corvette was quickly proclaimed by several critics and enthusiasts as the best Corvette of all times. Because the newest generation of Corvette looked more like an improvement from its predecessor and not a total redesign General Motors was criticized.

The first C6 generation of Corvettes was put together and in 2000 made Corvette history by becoming the first Corvette to be developed in tandem with another GM model. The 2004 Cadillac XLR was taking shape the same time as the C6 Corvette was being developed.

The Cadillac gained priority as it was to be launched first and was to represent GM’s resurgence into the luxury car brand. Only after the XLR was complete was GM then able to give its full attention to the C6 project. Because of that fact though, the C6 would not be a total redesign.

Even though, the 2005 Corvette was extremely new in content it grabbed much of its inspiration from the XLR and used much of the same fit and finish composite type body panels, , interior design, and power train and road noise isolation. Some of the other most notable differences from the C5 generation included:

New Engine: The 2005 Corvette had an entirely new engine put into it. The LS2 was not only 50 horsepower more than its LS1 predecessor at a whopping 400 horsepower, but it came out a full 15 pound lighter as well.

Improved Chassis: The all independent suspension was the same as the C5 before it, but GM used all new and improved components through the suspension for an even better overall ride versus the C5.

Head Lamps: Taking cues from past generations of the Corvette, the 2005 Corvette and featured exposed head lamps.

Transmission: The 2005 Corvette, like the C5, offered a choice of six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The automatic four-speed received programming called Performance Shift Algorithm, which it acquired from Cadillac, while the Tremec T56 manual six speed transmission featured a shorter shift lever and had more positive action.

Made Smaller: In an attempt to gain popularity and boost sales in Europe, GM decided to make the 2005 C6 Corvette smaller and less bulky. While this is certainly better for a more crowded pollution, they did receive much criticism for the move as some cited it was too small and compact for a true sports car.

OnStar: For the first time in Corvette history, the 2005 Corvette came with the option of OnStar, which is a voice activated system that can be used to call for help in case of an accident and can even assist in opening a locked door.

The 2005 C6 Corvette may have proved to be more of an evolution of the C5, even though, it was an entirely new car. This supercar took large steps in the way of refinement and performance. The C5 was larger than the C6 but the C6 was more agile and precise. The 2005 Corvette had flashes from the past in the design because it made you think of the classic Sting Ray of 1963-1967. . The 2005 Corvette represented true value. Even with all the improvements its base price still came in lower than the last C5 produced. Power and performance; is there anything better?

The 1968 Corvette was the first model that set off a 15 year run for the C3 ‘Shark’ generation of the Corvette, a record that still stands today. Running until 1982, the C3 generation would prove to be the most stubborn of all the Corvette generations selling record numbers in the late 60’s, huge numbers in the 70’s despite a gas crunch, and holding its ground respectably in the early 80’s. This longevity all started with the 1968 Corvette which brought a new design that would eventually be the inspiration of the Corvettes that are driven today (C6 Generation 2005 - Present).

The 1968 Corvette actually got its start design in early 1964 by designer Larry Shinoda under the watchful direction of Bill Mitchell. By 1965 the Mako Shark II Concept Car was brought to the public eye by way of car shows and the 1968 Corvette would be an almost identical product by way of looks.

When the auto shows were done the Shinoda/Mitchell design was sent to Chevrolet styling under David Hollis. Using the existing Sting Ray chassis the design began to take place. The mid-engine design of the Mako Shark II was dropped. When the 1968 Corvette began to take shape there was an obvious overtone from the Mako Shark II design and the 1968 Corvette was the same car from the beltline down, just with softer contours.

Some of the new innovations to the 1968 Corvette included:

*Total redesign of the body. *Removable T-Top roof panels and back window on the coupe model. *Redesigned interior. *Optional three-speed Hydra-matic transmission to replace the previous two-speed Powerglide.

The engine of the 1968 Corvette stayed the same and was a carry over from the previous year. Even though, the Corvette had new features. There was no lack of power actually it was quite the contrary. Road & Track conducted several speed tests with the 1968 Corvette and found that the small-block 327 V-8 put out 350-bhp and had a reported top speed of 128 miles per hour. Even better was the big block put out a whopping 400 bhp and could do 0-60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds.

New to the 1968 Corvette was actually something that was lacking. For the first time in awhile there was no Sting Ray name attached to the Chevrolet muscle machine, though it was advertised using the Sting Ray name. Just one year later however the ‘Stingray’ nameplate would find its way back onto the Corvette.

As much as General Motors tried to keep the new design of the 1968 Corvette a secret, the unveiling of the new body style actually took place a few weeks before the car was officially unveiled. Just before the 1968 Corvette was to be revealed to the public, toy maker Mattel released its new line of Hot Wheels and much to the surprise of General Motors Executives there was an unauthorized version of a car called the ‘Custom Corvette.’

The 1968 Corvette came out to much acclaim among Corvette fans but got very poor reviews from the critics. Still, this didn’t seem to bother the masses and at the end of the year it would be Chevrolet and the new Corvette that would have the last laugh as a record number of 28,566 units were sold, which was an increase of about 5,000 from the last year of the Sting Ray.

In 1990 I received a free AOL disc in the mail and used it to go “online.” AOL was fun for a variety of years, but a friend told me back in 1995 that you do not need AOL to surf the Internet. In all honesty I didn’t know that at that time. A few days later, I said good-bye to AOL and “HELLO!” to the superhighway of information. People that previously had no interest in PC’s are now running to computer stores so they could surf the internet and retrieve their e-mail.

Back at that time the Internet was really different. Just about everyone was on dial-up, so sites and web pages were simpler. The net hadn’t yet been taken over by commerce sites so it was easier to find “information” then. Chat rooms and forums had been around since the early ’80s, but they were difficult to use. AOL’s interface helped make it much easier.

The action of blogging appeared around 1994 and it didn’t take off until 1999 with the addition of “blogging tools.” The blogosphere really took off once the political pundits embraced the bogs in 2002. At the moment there is a blog for everything, which is good and bad news. Almost half of the links are for services, products, auction listings, and blog and forum comments when search is conducted by researchers like me. I was sort of bothered at first with the Corvette forum links since searches often were linked to things such as, “I like side-pipes too.” However I was satisfyingly surprised to find a rich, complete information source once I took a glance at Corvette forum’s home page.

Take a Corvette forum such as SmokinVette.com. The Corvette hobby is huge because it covers a 57 year lineage of cars in six distinct generations. SmokinVette has Corvette forums for all six generations. Once you’re into your generation’s forum, cruise around, and check out the topics. Every forum is unique, so spend some time poking around the links, controls, and drop-down boxes. It’s like wandering around a big box, home improvement store. It’s a little overwhelming at first, but it doesn’t take long and you know just where to find that sky hook you’re looking for.

There are times that I am in the mood to view some Corvette pictures and SmokinVette has a large collection of them. And what a high-fueled testosterone topic like Corvettes is without a compilation of Corvette Girls? Boring is the answer. With SmokinVette being classy, you will not see anything over the top, but you will see numerous SmokinHot Women. Ladies that is a compliment.

Owning a pleasure boat is a lot more economically challenging than owning a Corvette, but you could possibly spend extra money on things such as personalizing and refurbishing your Corvette. You can find a “Vette Parts” section in SmokinVette, which can help you locate anything from a crate engine or supercharger to LED lights or used parts. You may have thought that there is a limited range of parts and you will be impressed to know that is not true. You will quickly discover there are a variety of parts being offered by very creative Corvette know-it-alls.

But don’t just be a voyeur. After you go through the free registration, you can add your two-cents to any of the forums, start a new forum topic, and ask a Corvette question, or post photos and images. Corvette people are VERY helpful. When you own a Vette, or are an enthusiast, you’re a member of a uniquely American club. The whole “Save the Wave” thing got started as a way for Corvette owners to acknowledge one another on the road. Corvettes aren’t just “cars.” They’re something more, something intangible that you don’t begin to “get” until you drive one. Driving a Corvette is a uniquely sensual experience. You don’t just “ride” in a Corvette, you DRIVE a Corvette because they are designed and made to be DRIVEN. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read or heard a new Corvette owner say, “I never really understood this car until I drove one.” That’s the “GOTCHA!” moment.

So clear out some time, get comfortable, and check out some Corvette forums, such as SmokinVette.com. Its fun, entertaining, educational, and a way to meet like-minded people that “get” the Corvette obsession. Nuff said! - KST

The 1984 Corvette was the new C4 generation of Corvettes. This represented the first time in fifteen years that General Motors totally redesigned the Corvette. “Form follows function” was the mission statement for chief engineers and designers Jerry Palmer and David R. McClellan. This statement was followed in the past, however, the new generation had to prove to be worth the wait.

The 1984 Corvette design started years earlier and was meant to come out in 1983 so the Corvette fans could have a 30 year anniversary model. However, there were snags and glitches that delayed production and the new generation would not go into production until March of 1983 but had to be unveiled as a 1984 model. The 1984 Corvette was worth the wait.

The 1984 Corvette was a total redesign from the top down and carried over nothing from the ‘Shark’ area save the engine. Some of the new features for the 1984 Corvette included:

Improved Frame: Chevrolet and the 1984 Corvette made history incorporating the first ever uni-frame, or ‘birdcage’ frame.

Improved Steering: The 1984 Corvette featured rack-and-pinion steering design as opposed to the past recirculating-ball steering that General Motors typically used at the time.

Improved Suspension: The 1984 Corvette featured a Z51 Performance Handling Package. This package included 13.0:1 quick-ratio steering, heavy-duty shocks, and upgraded front and rear springs. The new Corvette also featured Formula 1 and Indy Car racing inspired V-Rated tires for a better overall grip.

Improved Braking: A new design of 11.5 inch rotors made their way onto the 1984 Corvette. These rotors were a special design from the company Girlock.

Improved Hood: The 1984 Corvette saw the birth of the clam-shell hood which made access to the engine much easier than previous models.

Improved Trunk: The 1984 Corvette had a bigger back piece of glass that opened as a hatch to give way to a much roomier trunk.

Improved Top: The new Corvette brought the first targa top with no centerline reinforcement for the muscle car.

Improved Transmission: The 1984 Corvette had a new four speed automatic transmission like no one had ever known before. Dubbed the ‘4+3,’ the new transmission was basically a regular four speed transmission with three planetary gears attached to the rear which acted as a step down or overdrive reduction in the top three gears when signaled by the computer.

Even though the engine was a carryover from the 1982 model, the 1984 Corvette was able to put out five additional horsepower and five additional foot pounds of torque thanks to a more efficient radiator fan and accessory drive. The 5.7-liter 350 V-8 featured twin throttle-body electronic fuel injection and ‘CrossFire’ manifolding with dual ram-air intakes.

The spring of 1983 was the official unveiling of the 1984 Corvette. The 1984 Corvette came out much to the surprise of the enthusiasts and critics. Thanks to an extra long model year the 1984 Corvette sold 51,547 units and this represented the second highest in Corvette history. Since it took a long time for General Motors to make another generation of a Corvette it appears that the wait was more than worth it.

The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray which ran from 1963-1967 was the second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette. The 1963 Corvette was unique for several reasons and the model produced several upgrades for the Corvette in general. Also, the Sting Ray had a new body design. What is fascinating is how the car came to be.

The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray was born out of several very distinct inspirations of designer Larry Shinoda. Shinoda took ideas from several sources and when they were all wrapped together the legendary Corvette was built. Bill Mitchell was Shinoda’s boss at the time and he influenced the designer in more than one way to help shape what would become the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray:

1. Mitchell’s Previous Designs: Mitchell had previously overseen the design of an unproduced ‘Q-Corvette’ which Shinoda took careful notes of. 2. Mitchell’s Vehicle: Shinoda found more inspiration from his boss by way of what Mitchell drove, which at the time was a Jaguar E-Type. 3. Mitchell’s Adventure: On a deep sea fishing expedition Mitchell had caught and landed a Mako Shark. Shinoda took several key points from this majestic creature of the sea and incorporated them into the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. 4. Mitchell’s Racing Involvement: In 1959 Mitchell sponsored a racing car called the ‘Mitchell Sting Ray’ because at that time Chevrolet had pulled out of factory racing. Though it had no top and did not give away what the eventual 1963 Corvette Sting Ray would look like, it is widely speculated that this was the biggest influence on Shinoda’s design.

The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray had some new developments that were unique to the year. . While some of the developments stayed, others did not. For the first and last time the split rear window and non-functional hood vents were produced in the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. Because of safety issues the features were dropped the next year. This car was dubbed the “Split Window Coupe because this was the only year the split window was featured. The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray is a highly sought after car among collectors.

The introduction of the independent rear suspension was one innovation that did stand the test of time. This technology was not new but it was to the Corvette. This proved to be a technology that would last. The implementation of the Wonderbar auto tuning radio and air conditioning in mid 1963, were features that proved to be a foundation in the Corvette family.

A small block 327 V-8 powered the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. The maximum output for horsepower was 360 in 1963 which increased in 1964. While not much by today’s Corvette standards, the output was quite significant for the time.

The C2 generation of the Corvette and later models will begin to take shape but it all started with the Larry Shinoda’s design on the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray. Bill Mitchell’s true inspiration helped shape the Corvette that is enjoyed today and will live in the hearts of Corvette lovers forever. The Corvette will always remain an iconic symbol for the now famous brand.

The 1967 Corvette was the last of a five year run for the C2 generation. Originally, the 1967 was supposed to be a total redesign but top engineers at GM wanted more wind tunnel time and thus the 1967 Corvette became another carry over Sting Ray. While the now famed C3 generation would have to wait one more year before it began, the 1967 Corvette did not disappoint and would prove to be the best of the Sting Ray family and would eventually have many claiming it to be the best Vette ever made.

The 1967 Corvette was the most finely tuned Sting Ray to be produced and although the changes were not all that spectacular they did make for a much cleaner looking Corvette. Some of the more notable changes to the 1967 Corvette were…

Front Fender Vents: Five front fender vents replaced the three that were on the 1966 Corvette.

Back-up Light, The 1967 Corvette had a newly designed single back-up light which was mounted just above the license plate holder.

Wheel Covers, The 1967 Corvette did away with the older looking wheel coverings and made way for the Rally wheels which featured chrome beauty rings with small chrome center caps to hide the lug nuts.

Handbrake, The handbrake was moved from beneath the dash to between the seats for the 1967 Corvette.

The 1967 Corvette engine did not change that much but it did end up producing more power. The two small block V-8s as too the big block returned in 1967. This year the big block was hidden under a redesigned hood scoop. There was a switch to triple two barrel carbs so the two largest engines were able to put out 400 and 435 bhp.

Speed freaks could also get their fix with the optional L88 engine which featured many lightened parts and other special upgrades that gave the engine an incredible 560-bhp at the end of the day. The biggest problem with this super engine was the fact that it took only 103-octane racing fuel and consequently did not make for a good option to be driven on a daily basis. Still in 1967 20 buyers opted for the package that would add an enormous $1,500 to the base price of just over $4,200.

As time passed the fans and critics looked back and agreed the 1967 Corvette was the best Corvette ever made. In 1967 this was not the case because everyone was waiting on the now overdue C3 generation to be released. The result was the 1967 Corvette underselling the 1966 Corvette by 5,000 units. The newest Corvette would be a matter of time and when it was released many would be shocked to see the name Sting Ray was taken away. Though added back in 1969 as ‘Stingray’ there would never again be another Sting Ray, especially not like the one that GM put out in 1967.
