Dear Sigma Theta Chi Alumni,

The Alumni Association would like to send out a big thank you to all the attendees of the reunion this past Saturday. It was a very successful outing of catching up with old friends, make new ones and sharing some war stories along the way. Events such as these is what will help reconnect and grow our alumni association. As per everyone's request we are planning another similar get together later on in the summer to say good by to summer and hello to hopefully new faces!

Hello All,

One of the most important aspects of any relationship is trust; we realize this and keep this in mind when serving our membership - Alumni E-Board

What we are referring to when we speak of trust is the opportunity to know what goes on "behind the scenes", we want to give all members the opportunity to see into the inner workings of our alumni association. This way you can better prepare for future events. The better informed you are the more motivated you'll be when a event of interest comes up.

The first of three options to help our member is the new online meeting archives. We plan to stream all upcoming meeting live at www.ustream.tv/channel/chi-alumni-meeting and make archives available for review. This will give each of you eyes into the inner working of the alumni association.

A second option and also extremely important, each month we publish our financial statements online in a secure, password protected page for all members to view. We do this to give you the opportunity to see how all of our funds are collected and spent in order to operate the alumni association. This is our safety net to make sure all money is spent prudently.

One the easily overlooked ideas, but very simple tool that you will find useful at keeping you informed is that all meeting agenda's and meeting minutes are posted online as well. These documents offer our members the ability to keep up to date on activities and future events even when their schedules restrict them from attending. Why do this? Chi is truly an organization owned by its membership. “It is what we put into it” and it only continues to exist because of the efforts of the brotherhood that supports it. We encourage all of you to offer your experiences to help further our organization.

We do all of this to provoke interest and encourage involvement, this will truly help grow our organization and help to create a more diverse group of professional involvement. 03/29/2011 MDA Summer Camp Volunteers needed

Dear Alumni & Active Brothers,

I thought I would pass on some interesting information. If any of you are looking to bulk up your resume (all you teachers) or just want to help out at the MDA summer camp this August let me know…

If you know some people that would be interested. We are in need of MALE counselors this year, simply because our male campers, ages 10+ need to be paired with only male counselors.

Our camp takes place on Saturday, August 20^th - Friday, August 26^th at Camp Visions in Spring Valley, NY. It’s a week long, sleep away camp and all counselors are 100% volunteer, so there will be no compensation. They would need to stay the entire week and care for a child with a disability. This person would need to basically be the arms and legs of this child and each child is different. There are some campers that have severe needs, while others are still able to walk and function normally. In some cases, a counselor can be paired with a camper and they may have to feed, bathe, toilet and possibly turn them in the middle of the night. It’s a great experience and these counselors feel ‘different’ after they leave camp. It’s exhausting, both physically and mentally, but the feeling they will have once they leave is something that they will take with them forever.

I’ve attached a fact sheet to give a little more insight regarding this volunteer opportunity. Each person interested would need to come into my office for a face to face interview, fill out an application, and we need to conduct a background check.

By popular demand we have decided to place a second order for Basketball Jerseys! (Must be all the March madness fever) If you would like to order a jersey they are $25 per jersey +$2 S&H. The turn around time on these is about two weeks and will be shipped to you directly. Orders can be placed by doing any of the following:

Hello and welcome! This week marks a new milestone for the our alumni association. We are very excited to announce that we have added one more arrow in our quiver with the Chi Alumni Blog....

Question: What is this?

Answer: Simple question, we've always operated with face-to-face contact and now we have this blog. A blog is simply an internet site that we can continually update with relative ease compared to a website which requires specific commands and codes to operate and be updated. We will be posting all email communications, event announcement, and general information on this blog so that we have a written record for each of you to look to for updates.

Question: How can it help me?

Answer: This site is a quick and easy way to keep up-to-date on whats been going on with your alumni association. If you receive an email about an event but then can't find the email, you will have this site to fall back on. If your looking for updates on the active fraternity or an alumni Vs. active football game...check this site and you'll have all the information you need. Question: What makes this different from Facebook or www.Chialumni.com

Answer: In addition to being one of several resources that the alumni association plans to take advantage of, this site offers up a voice from ANY alumni. If your an alumni interested in contributing to help further our organization but don't have the time to offer or possibly the location your currently living in isn't ideal then "blogging" can offer you an outlet.

Question: How can I contribute?

Answer: We are looking for alumni who want to offer their expertise on issues that can help the alumni association and/Or the active brotherhood. If you have some experiences please feel free to put together a post and email it to Secretary@chialumni.com When we receive your emails we will post it here for all to read. This can help if you have real world experiences you want to share...from a great vacation spot you've recently visited to some hard life lessons you've lived through and care to help others avoid falling victim to. Question: I'm not a great writer but still want to help. What can I do?

Answer: The alumni association focuses on building a concrete foundation that will help excel our organization for many decades. Hello ALL,

Hope everyone is enjoying a little bit of warm weather and sunshine! Thank you to all Alumni & Active brothers of Sigma Theta Chi that participated in the MDA Walk. We raised over $1325.00 which all went to help benefit the kids of Muscular Dystrophy. This event marks a great success of our Alumni Association. Active brothers alone raised over $300.00...and alumni did their part to make up the difference. This truly is a successful event for Sigma Theta Chi and is just the beginning.

A special Thank You to Anthony Veiga, Justin Jankow, Mike Nitto, Jorge Vasquez, Rich Slowik, Damiano Gaetano, Nelson Pires, Nelson Cardoso, Stefano Gaetano, Nader Nassif, and ALL of our friends & family who contributed to MDA....

Update on CHI activities:

Active: The active are going into Greek Olympics in a few weeks. A schedule of events has yet to be solidified and once done we will be posting the information on facebook along with our regular email blast.

The brothers have been hard at work at planning this years Annual Induction Dinner. It will be held on June 3rd @ the White Sands Resort in Point Pleasant, NJ. If you are interested in attending, bids will be $75.00 and can be paid via pay-pal, check or cash PRIOR to the event. Bids paid the day of will be $100.00.

This is a reminder that it's not to late to help out! The walk is this Saturday at the Prudential Arena in Newark, we will all be meeting there at 11am. We will have designated areas so just ask one of the volunteers from MDA for the team location. Please bring all donation money and paperwork..after the walk at 2pm we will be meeting just down the street at Iberia Restaurant on Ferry Street for some well deserved

Richard Slowik & Frank Del Vecchio

on their recent engagement

For those of you have not had the pleasure of knowing either Rich or Frank, the alumni association will introduce...

Rich Slowik joined Sigma Theta Chi in the Spring of 2003 in a class by himself, literally, he went through the new member process by himself which as we all know is one of the most "interesting" ways to enter our organization. Not only was his character shown with this act but he also joined when our organization was at it's lowest. We did not have a house and there were fewer than 6 brothers active. During his years he earned the nickname of "Floppy" because of his long flowing (and somewhat girl-like) hair that flopped during an alumni vs active football game. You will all be happy to know Rich and his silky locks have parted ways circa 2005. In his free time Rich enjoys spending time with friends, snowboarding, drinking, and fixing up his new casa in Ocean twp, NJ. He also likes to weld, enjoy a cocktail or two, and in the summer months surf... Luckily for Rich and humanity, he met Natalie Castagno who will now enjoy keeping Rich out of jail.....

Francesco Del Vecchio or more widely known as Frank "the tank" entered his active years in the Fall of 2004. He has held several fraternal positions during his years, none more notably important than President during the Fall06 - Spring07 academic year, where Sigma Theta Chi was at it's largest it has been in the past 10 years. During his years attending glorious Kean University, Frank held the fraternity record for most fried bread sandwiches eaten in 24 hour period of time. This feat is one of Franks most cherished and closely held accomplishments and only was made possible from the strength and mental toughness during his training for his attempt at the world record for longest "World of Warcraft" marathon. Frank and Melissa Pontecorvo (Theta Phi Alpha Alum) met at Kean and currently reside together in wonderful town of Maple Shade, New Jersey on the Pennsylvania border.

The following is an email we sent to each active brother earlier today....The issue prevails that the fraternity, as well as they are doing, has done a poor job in preserving our beliefs. They need a refresher on what it is to be a chi brother and what this fraternity has stood for in the past 74 years. We need to instill our beliefs of courage, character, integrity & principle into each brother this Tuesday, February 15th. Several of you know but I'm sure there are a few of you who haven't heard but the Alumni are calling a special meeting of the brotherhood for this Tuesday February 15th @ 8PM. I know some of you have plans of holding a meet and greet on campus but it seems to several Alumni that we have bigger issues that need to be addressed. Please plan accordingly as this meeting may take several hours. A few ground rules:

(1) If your on the active E-board please be at the house ASAP @ approx 8pm.

(2) If you are active but not on E-board please be at the house no later than 8:30pm (Exception Grecco 9pm)

(3) If ANYONE shows up even slightly out of it don't even bother showing up. Your actions will reflect your attitude and character.

Fellow Alumnus,

We wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to those that attended this weekends alumni meeting. The event ran extremely well and everyone enjoyed a beautiful afternoon on the Hudson. I wanted to offer a special thank you to the alumni who have sacrificed so much of their time, peace, and sleep to get the ball rolling on the association. A congratulations would be premature as there is still much work that needs to be accomplished but without naming names(you know who you are), from the bottom of my heart.. Thank you!

If you haven't done so already, please feel free to pay your membership dues for 2011. $25 covers membership for the remainder of 2010 & all of 2011. This can be done online by clicking on the following link: http://www.chialumni.com/dues.html

While we wish we had the resources to pay for the annual alumni meeting, fact of the matter is that currently the alumni association does not. We need your help in funding events such as these. The hope is that we can
stir up interest and involvement so that in coming years WE WILL have the resources. In an effort to help out the alumni association please feel free to visit www.chialumni.com/donation.html to help pay for your portion of the alumni meeting. Costs range from $25-30 per person but any additional money would be greatly appreciated!

You'll notice on the donations page that we've taken feedback from the meeting and ran with it. We have setup a re-occurring monthly donations option that will give each alumni the opportunity to offer monthly donations of minimal amounts (between $1,3,5,etc.). If you have any questions on how this works please don't hesitate to contact myself or any other member of the alumni association board but from what we understand it's very intuitive.

The alumni association board has continued to meet on a monthly basis for the past 10 months. November will be no different and if your willing to lend a hand then please feel free to attend this meetings.
All meetings are open to all alumni who wish to attend and we encourage each alumni to do so. We are scheduled to meet again on Thursday, November 4th at 8pm. The meeting usually run between 1-2 hours and the location (around Kean) will be announced one week prior by email. If you want to get involved in helping out the alumni association then this is your opportunity. It's the way we've designed the internal structure of
leadership and in addition, it's a great opportunity to have your opinion heard which can lead to a new direction for the organization.

10/14/2010 Alumni Meeting Final Reminder:

Morning Everyone,

Regarding the sidewalk/road collapse on 13th St Hoboken, the damage is pretty bad and the odds WERE looking likely of them shutting the entire area down.

Fortunate for us they have not and we are still on for tomorrow!!!!

Please note that because of the collapse the only entrance to the pier is on 12th street. Look for orange barricades that lead directly to the pier. I've provided a list of all alumni & guests to the sheriff stationed at the entrance. If they have any issues just give me a call on my cell but I’m not expecting any.

Parking is sometimes an issue in Hoboken, luckily there are several convenient options within a block or two. Your best bet will be either the little man parking garage (not a joke) located at 2 12th St # 1, Hoboken, NJ. There are two entrances, one on 12th and another on McFeeley lane which is one block off the water. A second option is on Maxwell lane, just down the block at the shipyard condominiums. Both are reasonably priced and very good options.

Dress warm, it's expected to be breezy and with our event on the water it will only add to that chill in the air.

Lastly, guests are always welcome! Wives, girlfriends, Mistresses (if you’re a Chilean miner), children, dogs, cats, etc.

Morning Guys,

Bad omen? I think not, but in case you haven't heard a huge chunk of roadway/sidewalk fell into the Hudson River late Friday afternoon directly across the street from pier 13 (where our meeting is being held). CLICK HERE for pictures. Don't stress, I'll keep you updated this week... I don't expect this to have any impact on our meeting....

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to personally thank everyone for coming out on Saturday! I hope we all enjoyed ourselves and it truly was a great day to be outside. I'm definitely feeling the aches and pain but it was worth it. You should know that your attendance and constant dedication to the fraternity adds legitimacy to what we are trying to do with the Alumni Association. The more alumni we can get to attend events such as these will only have a positive impact on the active fraternity. This in turn will add to us creating a successful alumni network which we can all benefit from being a part of. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Alumni Meeting on October 16^th in Hoboken. If you have any input or question before please don't hesitate to give me a call.

Hi Guys,
As everyone should be aware, the alumni association will be offering a scholarship this year to 1 active brother. We plan on giving between $500-$750 in the form of credit to be used at Kean University for books and related items. This is just a stepping stone, with your cooperation we do intend to increase the value of next year's scholarship.

Everyone should have received a S&A Committee packets at the first active meeting of the fall semester. If you lost yours or weren't at the meeting to receive one, please download & print a copy by clicking here. We are asking each of you to read through the information and become aware of the requirements for this year's scholarship.

To be eligible to receive this year's scholarship you must meet the following guidelines:
- GPA which meets the criteria
- All applications and required documents handed in on time. We will not be flexible with missed deadlines!
- Have handed in your prior years school transcripts
- If your GPA is currently below a 2.5 you will also be asked to submit your Fall 2010 class grades & attendance
