The Chi Tea Weight Loss Program amplifies that power by the addition of Ener-Chi, a natural energy elixir filled with fatigue-blasting vitamins and herbal extracts, which also contains a metabolism-revving arsenal of ingredients proven to fight fat. When coupled with a wellness plan that includes nutritious foods and physical activity, The Chi Tea Weight Loss Program can assist you in reaching your optimum weight. Let's discuss these proven benefits of the Chi Tea Weight Loss Program.

PART ONE: THE ULTIMATE GREEN TEA EXTRACT
Green tea is the superstar of the Slim Chi Weight Loss Program. The Ultimate Green Tea Extract is the purest green tea you can find: it is 100% free of herbicides, pesticides, fluoride, sugar, caffeine and alcohol, and one cup of its concentrated formula is the equivalent of 12-15 cups of health-giving green tea. The weight-loss properties of green tea can be attributed to its effects on lipid metabolism as well as its thermogenic activity. A 2006 study at the University of Madras in India found that the administration of green tea extract decreased cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid levels and lipoprotein lipase activity in the heart of diabetic rats. Lipase is an enzyme that allows fat to be broken down - if its activity is decreased, cholesterol and triglycerides are removed rather than stored. A 2003 study at Roche Vitamins in Basel, Switzerland, a 2006 study at the University of Hawaii and a 2007 study at the University of Connecticut further confirm green tea's lipid-lowering capabilities. In addition, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study at the University of Medicine in Berlin confirmed that EGCG, an antioxidant in green tea, has the potential to increase fat oxidation in men and may thereby contribute to the anti-obesity effects of green tea.

In relation to thermogenesis (heat production that leads to increased metabolism), green tea, by containing both catechins and caffeine, may promote thermogenesis through inhibition of certain enzymes (catechol O-methyl-transferase and phosphodiesterase). In addition, tea catechins have anti-angiogenic (enlarging of blood vessels) properties that may prevent the development of excess weight.

Another explanation for green tea's weight loss effect was found during a 2003 study at Kunsan National University in South Korea, in which the tea was found to inhibit fat storage in rats by reducing the digestibility of fat, and to a much greater extent, increasing adipose (fat) tissue thermogenesis through beta-adrenoreceptor activation. Beta-adreno is a receptor, or catalyst, within the sympathetic nervous system that increases glycogenalysis, or metabolism of sugars.

Ultimate Green Tea Extract promotes a healthy body that is ripe to receive the added benefits of Ener-Chi

PART TWO: ENER-CHI
Ener Chi is jam-packed with endurance-increasing vitamins and herbs for that extra "oomph!" while working out and completing your daily tasks. The formula contains ribose, an end product of glucose metabolism, without which energy production would not be possible. Lo Han fruit extract is added for natural sweetness; and guarana extract, containing guaranine, a gentle caffeine-like compound, is added to fight sluggishness sans the jitters of a grande latte.

Powerful adaptogens, or herbs that increase the body's ability to adapt to trauma, stress, anxiety and fatigue, are added to act as buffers against "the stress zone" in which cortisol floods the body and puts a lock on body weight. Eleuthero, also known as Siberian Ginseng, is an adaptogen that is used to assist Russian astronauts during rigorous training sessions. A 2008 study at Utrecht University in the Netherlands concluded that eleuthero promotes stress resistance and a longer lifespan. Also included is Panax (Asian) ginseng. A 2007 study done at the University of Chicago found that obese, diabetic rats fed Panax ginseng experienced a notable improvement in glucose tolerance as well as a significant reduction in body weight; while a 2007 study at The Hebrew University of Jersusalem found that rats on a high-fat diet experienced a reduction in weight gain when administered Panax ginseng. Ginkgo biloba, famous for its memory-protecting properties, is also included. Studies done in 2003 and 2007 at Goethe University of Frankfurt found that ginkgo biloba protects rats' mitochondria (the creators of energy in our cells) from degeneration, particularly in aging rats.

In addition to these vital adaptogens, Ener-Chi includes two important amino acids: L-carnitine and taurine. L-carnitine is a compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine. In living cells, it is required for the transport of fatty acids from the cytosol (internal fluid of the cells) into the mitochondria during the breakdown of fats for metabolic energy. A 2007 study at the University of Catania in Italy found that oral administration of L-carnitine to human subjects over a eight-week period produces a reduction of total fat mass, increases total muscular mass, and facilitates an increased capacity for physical and cognitive activity by reducing fatigue and improving cognitive functions. Taurine is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine. A 2004 study at Ibaraki Prefectural Institute of Public Health in Japan found that taurine increased rats' treadmill endurance from 25-50%.

Finally, no energy elixir would be complete without the all-important B-vitamins. Ener-Chi contains the full B-complex. Essential to the immune and nervous systems, and to healthy skin, hair and muscle tone, B-complex is also an actor in proper cell division and metabolism.

Ener-Chi, available in coffee and orange flavors, assists your body in adapting to daily stress, promotes the body's production of energy, and boosts your B-vitamin intake, so that you can lead the active lifestyle necessary for weight maintenance and long-term health. Remember: when you have more energy, you're active; and when you're active, you have more energy!

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
The Chi Tea Weight Loss Program is not just about shedding pounds - it's about gaining health. We know that supplementation with green tea can reduce the risk not only for obesity but also for heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

The Chi Tea Weight Loss Program is most effective when combined with an overall wellness plan of health-giving foods and physical activity.

CONCLUSION
The Chi Tea Weight Loss Program utilizes green tea, vitamins and herbal extracts to beautify the body from the inside out. Ultimate Green Tea is a powerful health booster that increases metabolism and preps the body; and Ener-Chi provides the energy needed to sustain an active lifestyle, and accelerates weight loss with proven fat-fighters. It is a comprehensive program designed to peak your ability to reach an optimal weight. Remember: when your Chi is peaked, the body is naturally Slim!

Jessica Breen is certified as a Health Counselor by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Green Tea Information Health Videos Part 1 and Part 2

Chi Tea is proud to introduce our green tea health videos:

Green Tea Video Part 1

Green Tea Video Part 2

San Juan Puerto Rico - Chi Tea Conference

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views the heart as the master of the body and the emperor of the organ networks. It generates chi, the vital energy of the body, and thus is the root of all life1. Without a healthy heart, the body is fragile and stale. While many of us know that heart disease is rampant in the United States, we remain largely unaware of a powerful tool in its prevention: green tea. The heart protective effects of green tea can be attributed mainly to its antioxidant and anti-obesity properties, while other mechanisms play supporting roles. Each of these mechanisms will be discussed below in terms of TCM as well as Western medicine.

First, the antioxidant properties of green tea can be traced to its polyphenols, defined simply as groups of chemical substances in a plant. These polyphenols act as little superheros, taking the place of cells in danger of becoming oxidized and facing the oxidation themselves. In this way, they prevent the formation of free radicals - highly reactive atoms that can damage heart cells and, in TCM, leave cells incapable of generating chi2. Research at the Graduate School of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan confirmed that green tea polyphenols can protect a heart from oxidative stress, as well as maintain good left ventricular function after ischemic arrest (restriction in the heart's blood supply) and reperfusion (tissue damage caused when the blood supply returns)3. A study at Aichi Medical University in Japan similarly concluded that green tea is useful to ischemia-reperfusion hearts due to its ability to fight free radicals;4 while research at the University of Padova in Italy found that green tea extract prevented hypertension and target organ damage induced in rats, likely by scavenging free radicals.5

There are four primary polyphenols in green tea and they are often collectively referred to as catechins, the most publicized of which is Epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. At Chungbuk National University in Cheongju, Korea, research suggests that EGCG prevents the development of left ventricular concentric hypertrophy (pathological thickening of the ventricle walls) due to high blood pressure and may be useful in preventing cardiac remodeling (changes in size, shape or function of the heart) in patients with diseases that strain the heart muscle.6 Furthermore, a 2004 review study at Complutense University of Madrid in Spain confirmed that catechins consumption decreases cholesterol absorption and plasma levels, scavenges free-radicals thereby inhibiting LDL oxidation, decreases systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and decreases body weight by interfering with fatty acid synthesis.7

This ability of green tea to aid weight loss has been well-documented, and maintaining a healthy weight is intimately related to heart vigor. The tea's anti-obesity properties can be attributed to its effects on lipid metabolism as well as its thermogenic (heat-producing) activity. A 2006 study at the University of Madras in Chennai, India found that the administration of green tea extract decreased cholesterol, triglyceride, free fatty acid levels and lipoprotein lipase activity in the heart of diabetic rats.8 Lipase is an enzyme that allows fat to be broken down - if its activity is decreased, cholesterol and triglycerides are removed rather than stored. A 2003 study at Roche Vitamins in Basel, Switzerland,9 a 2006 study at the University of Hawaii10 and a 2007 study at the University of Connecticut11 further confirm green tea's lipid-lowering capabilities. In addition, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study at the University of Medicine in Berlin confirmed that EGCG alone has the potential to increase fat oxidation in men and may thereby contribute to the anti-obesity effects of green tea.12 In relation to thermogenesis (heat production that leads to increased metabolism), green tea, by containing both catechins and caffeine, may promote thermogenesis through inhibition of certain enzymes (catechol O-methyl-transferase and phosphodiesterase). In addition, tea catechins have anti-angiogenic (enlarging of blood vessels) properties that may prevent the development of excess weight.13 In TCM, weight loss involves limiting salty and sweet foods and increasing bitter and pungent foods. Green tea, a bitter food, is recommended.14

These two health-giving properties of green tea -- antioxidant activity and weight loss promotion -- combine to additionally protect the heart in those with diabetes, as hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress has been proposed as a cause of many complications of diabetes including cardiac dysfunction. Research at the University of Madras found that green tea extract ameliorates oxidative stress in the aorta and the heart of diabetic rats given streptozotocin (a chemical that is toxic to the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas). This suggests that green tea may be useful in the reversal of oxidative stress-induced cardiac dysfunction in diabetics.15 Another study at the University of Madras found that green tea improves the quality of heart collagen, also possibly therapeutic in the treatment of cardiovascular complications of diabetes.16

Another mechanism by which green tea protects the heart is quelling inflammation. Research at the Children's Hospital Research Foundation in Cincinnati, Ohio found that ECGC inhibits the expression of the interleukin-8 gene--a key gene involved in the inflammatory response.17 In TCM, inflammation is a result of consuming too many heating foods, such as meat, cooked oils, and processed sugar. The treatment involves consuming cooling foods, of which green tea, although often served hot, is a superstar due to its alkaloid content.18

To conclude, green tea is an excellent guard of the emperor, protecting the heart through a wide range of mechanisms. In this way, green tea is highly effective in ensuring a strong, healthy body pulsing vibrantly with chi, the energy of life.

Jessica Breen is certified as a Health Counselor by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

----------------

1Li Ting, A Primer of Medicine (Yixue Rumen) as quoted by the Institute of Traditional Medicine. Retirees have been watching their 401k retirement benefits plummet, while college seniors face an increasingly bleak job market.

Those who depend upon income from troubled sectors like retail sales and the auto industry are also feeling this intense pressure. Even those who manage to retain their jobs in this challenging economic climate cannot escape this stress and anxiety, thanks to widespread downsizing and staffs stretched to the breaking point.

The stress and anxiety resulting from these numerous challenges have serious health consequences. Many in the medical profession consider stress to be an "invisible killer" that can often be linked to cancer, heart disease, stroke and numerous other life threatening diseases. Stress in the human body triggers the release of hormones like epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol that elevate blood pressure and pose a serious challenge to the body's immune system.

In the face of all these challenges, I'd like to offer some good news. Numerous studies have found that tea - especially green tea - offers real benefits with respect to stress reduction. This information is not exactly a "secret," by the way - at least not to those in Asian nations like Japan and China. Tea has been an important part of daily life in these nations for centuries.

One study that supports this conclusion was reported in an issue of the medical journal Psychopharmacology in 2007. In this study, levels of the stress hormone cortisol of 75 participants were measured over a period of six weeks. The participants were divided into two groups, and one set of participants was asked to make the consumption of tea a part of their daily routine. The study found that those participants who consumed tea on a daily basis exhibited lower levels of cortisol than those who did not make tea a part of their daily routine. The researchers who conducted this study came to the conclusion that tea is able to expedite recovery from stress and supported the human body in bringing stress hormone levels back to normal levels.

In addition to the economic challenges noted above, many women must also contend with the stress associated with pre-menstrual syndrome. Statistically, more than 70 percent of all women of child bearing age in the US must cope with symptoms typically associated with PMS at some point in their lifetime. Research indicates that that green tea has a beneficial calming effect, due to one of the most important active ingredients found in green tea - the amino acid L-theanine.

Men and women in Japan consider the stress reducing qualities of green tea to be common knowledge. One 1992 study of 3,000 women in Japan found that the women who regularly taught or practiced the traditional Japanese tea ceremony - and drink large quantities of green tea each day as a result - are healthier and live longer than other women included in the study.

The fact that many men and women in Asia routinely drink 15 to 30 cups of green tea every day suggests that this daily ritual has a very beneficial effect when it comes to health and longevity. For most of us, drinking 20-30 cups of green tea every day is simply not very practical, but we still want to obtain these benefits. In addition, the soothing ritual of brewing and savoring a warm cup of tea further enhances the process of relaxation, much like making yoga or meditation a part of each day.

To understand the stress reducing properties of green tea more completely, it is useful to understand a couple of scientific terms. The leaves from which green tea is brewed contain what are known as "catechin polyphenols," which have a high level of beneficial antioxidant properties. Numerous studies that have focused on stress reduction and green tea suggest that these catechins play a key role in this biochemical process. Theanine is another stress reducing ingredient found in green tea.

Indications suggest that 2009 will be a year of stress and challenge. With that in mind, those seek to minimize that stress can start taking action now to counter those effects. Those seeking to benefit from the stress reducing ingredients found in green tea would be wise to make Chi Tea Ultimate Green Tea Extract a part of their daily routine. The fact that Chi Tea extract is unsurpassed with respect to purity is another important benefit.

Learn more about Chi Tea Ultimate Green Tea Extract.

Weight Loss and Chi Tea Ultimate Green Tea Extract

As we approach the start of 2009, millions of Americans are beginning to focus on their list of New Year's Resolutions. If previous years are any indication, the resolution to "lose weight" will be at the top of many of those lists.

There's no question that obesity is a serious problem in the U.S. Nearly one out of every three men and women in this country meet the criteria for obesity -- defined as an excess of total body fat, resulting from caloric intake exceeding energy usage. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 97 million adults in this country are either overweight or obese. Shockingly, this figure is equivalent to more than 50 percent of the entire U.S. population. The dangerous consequences of obesity include cardiovascular disease and a greatly increased risk of developing diabetes. According to Business Week, the desire to address this problem leads Americans to spend $40 billion a year on weight-loss programs and products - often only for temporary results, regaining that lost weight weeks or months later.

My intention in this article is to introduce you to a simple change you can make in your daily routine, one that has been scientifically proven to help you lose weight and keep it off. It's not exactly a "secret," because this ritual has been a part of daily life in Asia for centuries. Quite simply, I'm suggesting that adding green tea to your daily diet can help you burn fat and enable you to keep excess weight off once and for all.

As you're about to see, numerous scientific studies have concluded that green tea can play an extremely valuable and effective role in the process of losing weight. As noted below, many of those studies have found that the way to get the maximum benefit from green tea is by not just drinking a few cups of green tea each day, but by adding a green tea extract to your daily routine. Even Oprah was excited to hear this news, and she declared that she was eager to start drinking green tea and eliminate coffee. When you see what these studies have found, I believe that you'll be excited too!

For centuries, Asian cultures have recognized the benefits of green tea and accepted this as common knowledge. For example, studies conducted in Japan have found that the women who teach or practice the traditional tea ceremony in that country - and thus drink large quantities of green tea - are healthier and live longer than those engaged in any other profession. Other studies in Asia and here in the US have also concluded that green tea offers great benefits in terms of reducing the risk of cancer, heart disease, and stroke. The focus of this article, however, is specifically on weight loss.

One study of more than 1200 adults conducted at the National Cheng Kung University Hospital in Taiwan found that habitual tea drinkers showed a 19.6% reduction in their percentage of body fat as well as a reduction in their waist-to-hip ratio, compared with those participating in the study who did not drink tea regularly.

For those of us without medical degrees, let's find out exactly how these great benefits are achieved - and why green tea, in particular, is so helpful for those seeking to lose weight. We'll also learn why green tea extract is such a valuable addition to any weight loss plan.

Just as exercise is so essential when it comes to losing weight, a person's metabolic rate - the biological process through which energy is made available - directly affects fat oxidation. To understand exactly how green tea can help us lose weight, it's necessary to introduce a couple of scientific terms. The leaves from which green tea is brewed contain what are known as "catechin polyphenols," which have an effect on the process of "thermogenesis." These catechin polyphenols have a high level of antioxidant properties, which we've all certainly learned are important when it comes to our health.

Scientists use the term "thermogenesis" to describe the rate at which calories are being burned. Regardless of all the complicated words used to describe the process, this is the goal everyone with a desire to lose weight is seeking. A study conducted at the University of Geneva in Switzerland concluded that green tea does in fact raise a person's metabolic rate - this process of "thermogenesis" -- with the result that the rate of fat oxidation is increased.

Other studies have found that the most prominent catechin found in green tea - EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate, an antioxidant that has also been found to have beneficial effects in the treatment of brain tumor cells) - has a number of positive effects on the process of weight loss. One recent study found that EGCG reduces the proliferation of fat cells in the human body, decreases body and fat mass, and inhibits fat absorption. Those seeking to add the maximum level of EGCG to their daily diet can find a very high level of this catechin in Chi Tea Ultimate Green Tea Extract.

Another recent study found signs that EGCG plays an important role in promoting the process of thermogenesis and healthy weight control. The scientists conducting this study concluded that EGCG has a direct effect on norepinephrine, a hormone created by the body which increases the metabolic rate which in turn has an effect on burning fat.

Studies have also found specific benefits to green tea extract, with respect to weight loss. One obvious benefit of green tea extract, of course, is that adding this supplement to one cup of brewed tea or simply to a glass of water is equivalent to drinking 10-15 cups of green tea, the amount many people in Asia drink every day. For most of us, drinking 20-30 cups of green tea every day is simply not very practical, but we still want to obtain the benefits of that amount of green tea.

One study reported in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that green tea extract inhibits the body's fat-digesting enzymes, which means that fatty foods are less likely to be broken down and absorbed by the body. Another study in the same publication concluded that the EGCG found in green tea has effect on the body which results in calories being burned at a very high rate.

Earlier in this article, it was noted that a study conducted in Taiwan found that "habitual tea drinkers" experienced certain health benefits including an enhanced ability to lose weight. According to WebMD, after only three months, participants in a study conducted recently in Japan experienced significant health benefits by adding green tea extract to their daily routine. During the three month study, reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the participants who drank a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract every day lost more body fat than the participants who simply drank a bottle of tea without adding the green tea extract. The researchers concluded that the catechins in the green tea extract stimulated the body to burn calories and decrease body fat. The participants in this three-month study who drank the tea fortified with green tea extract lost an average of 5.3 pounds. The other participants, who did not add green tea extract to their diet, only lost an average of 2.9 pounds. Those who made green tea extract a part of their daily routine also experienced a significantly greater decrease in their Body Mass Index, their waist size, and their total body fat. In addition, the LDL "bad" cholesterol of these participants decreased as well. The scientists conducting this study concluded that the catechins in green tea also had a beneficial effect in reducing body fat. One of the researchers wrote, "These results suggest that catechins contribute to the prevention of and improvement in various lifestyle-related diseases, particular obesity."

Another study, published in the journal Phytomedicine, reported on the findings of another three-month study. Participants in this study also added green tea extract to their daily routine, and at the end of the three-month period, participants demonstrated a 4.6% decrease in body weight and a 4.5% decrease in waist circumference.

One more study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, echoed these findings - noting that green tea extract significantly increased energy expenditure (a measure of metabolism) and also increased the process of fat burning.

Those individuals who might be discouraged because of longstanding weight issues may be encouraged by the findings of a study reported in the Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism. This study found that green tea extract demonstrated benefits in reversing long established obesity. To experience the full benefit of a green tea extract, purity is obviously essential - and Chi Tea Ultimate Green Tea Extract is unsurpassed with respect to purity.

Those considering adding a commitment to "lose weight" to their list of New Year's Resolutions can be encouraged by the conclusions of these numerous scientific studies. The men and women who have successfully lost weight by adding a green tea extract to their daily routine have shown that it really is possible to achieve desired results - and also enjoy the many other health benefits credited to green tea.

Viva Herbals at New Life Expo October 17-19, 2008

<img style="display:block;
