Please post your thoughts on what positive changes can be done to get things going (at least from a roster or playcalling standpoint).

What can be salvaged:
Becoming a passing team: It's pretty obvious we can't run it would be better now to develop a passing attack (w/or w/o Turner) and develop the WR corps.
Shift the Oline around: Try guys at different positions, esp when the game is decided. Better to know now that Schaffer can go, Williams can play LT, or Omiyale can or can't do RT..
Roll Cutler out: The answer of "it shortens the field dosen't jive if the QB has a cannon for a arm and can make throws others could not.
Simplify the offense
Defense:
Reduce somewhat the emphasis on stripping. Go back to fundamental tackling then hitting. Yes turnovers are important but not arm tackling is MORE important.
Change playcallers: Someone else throw a curve by calling the plays and throw the opposing OC off balance a bit.
Give Gilbert and Toe a chance to audition. Shuffle the DB's and try to find a leader.

CHICAGO -- I think I heard a collective groan here Sunday when Bears coach Lovie Smith stepped to the podium and said: “I don’t have a lot of reasons...

CHICAGO -- I think I heard a collective groan here Sunday when Bears coach Lovie Smith stepped to the podium and said: “I don’t have a lot of reasons to give you on why we played that way.” In this case, however, I’m with Smith: The Bears’ performance Sunday was inexplicable.

How does a team with playoff aspirations fall as flat as the Bears did Sunday? Why were no adjustments effective as the opponent scored on its first six possessions? How did a starting defensive lineman get so worked up after four plays that he punched an opponent, leading to his ejection? And why did your quarterback take a 15-yard penalty for arguing with officials and then question his team’s internal makeup afterward?

That’s right. Quarterback Jay Cutler was asked if the Bears have a chemistry and leadership problem after their 41-21 loss to Arizona. Cutler response: “I don’t know. We’ll see.”

To a man, the Bears had no answers after their second blowout loss in three games. The only variance was how alarmed they were. Smith noted “our entire play was bad,” but he optimistically suggested the quick turnaround to Thursday night’s game at San Francisco would serve the Bears well. Tight end Greg Olsen said it was “unfair” to suggest the team is going in the wrong direction after blowout losses Sunday and two weeks ago at Cincinnati.

Only Alex Brown, the Bears’ classy and well-spoken defensive end, was visibly disturbed by what happened. Brown has been with the team since 2002, and if anyone deserves to hit the panic button, it’s him.

“For this to work,” Brown said, “we have to believe it’s going to work and we have to have a sense of urgency and we don’t have that right now. I don’t know what the hell is wrong, but we have to change it. It’s the eighth game of the season, and I know a lot of people like to think we’re better than 4-4. But hell, our record is 4-4. ... If we want to have any aspirations of going further or making it to the playoffs and stuff like that, then we’ve got to play a hell of a lot better.”

Brown went on to say that “anybody that doesn’t feel bad after that shouldn’t be here,” making me wonder which Bears players he was referring to.

Dungy: Vick could end up with Bills
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Tony Dungy says Michael Vick could potentially wind up in Buffalo, which he says previously discussed signing the quarterback.

Dungy has served as an adviser to Vick since the Super Bowl-winning coach retired from the Colts after last season. Now a commentator for NBC, Dungy confirmed during the pregame show Sunday night before Philadelphia hosted Dallas that the Bills and Vick "talked originally" when Vick was searching for a team after serving 18 months in federal prison for running a dogfighting ring.

The Eagles signed Vick to a $1.6 million contract for 2009, with a team option for the second year at $5.2 million. But he has played sparingly.

"I told Michael to just worry about this year," Dungy said. "It's technically up to Philadelphia. If they want him back, he has to stay there. If they don't, there are some teams looking for quarterbacks: Cleveland, St. Louis and Washington.

"But I think a dark horse is Buffalo. They talked originally. There was some communication there. I think that could be a good spot."

Bills starter Trent Edwards struggled this season before sustaining a concussion. Ryan Fitzpatrick, a career backup, has been the starter with Edwards out of the lineup.

Vick has completed 2 of 6 passes for 6 yards and rushed 11 times for 25 yards, mostly out of the wildcat formation.

...and they've been doing it the past 2 years. When it's 3rd and long, the DBs seemed to be ORDERED to back up PAST THE FIRST DOWN MARKER. We do this every single time it's 3rd and long (and pretty much 3rd down in general).

We don't jam the receivers to make them work to get past the marker. We give them the marker before the ball is even snapped. So all the receiver has to do is run to where the DB is, stop, turn around, 1st down.

We do this ALL THE TIME and I'm sick of seeing it.

I am a diehard bears fan and have been since birth.

I have to be honest with all of you...

I found Da Bears forums after leaving the official forums for good.

I was banned by the official forums ( i was swot69 there also) for 2 weeks after the last game against cleveland for posting what Rob Ryan said on tv but did not post the real word.. i put why did he say " F@ck You to Cutler inside a post . and this came after i made a thread called Fire Chicago Bears Webmaster LMAO .. only cuz everyone was posting to fire everybody else.. but i was stating my frustrations with the damn official forums.. because of the lag.. i was barely able to ever post anything during the game..and i like being on forums during the game. so when i found out i was banned i did make a new account to tell them to ban me for good and called the moderators snot nosed farking punks and just ripped the whole farking official forums calling them shit. so lol of course im ip banned for good well i was on those forums since 2000.and its been a frustrating 9 years on that board .. i think i had a grand total of like 30 posts..lmao Laaaagg .....i am so glad i found da bears. i can actually post without lag during the game..and my posts dont get moved or deleted. fark the official forums .. Da Bears Rules!

Chad Ochocinco tries to 'bribe' official on replay ruling

By Chris Chase

The artful use of a folded bill can get people past a long line at a club, seated quickly at a restaurant with a 45-minute wait or, as countless detective shows have demonstrated, a good piece of information from a cab driver with a hazy memory. As Chad Ochocinco(notes) found out today, it will not get you a call during an NFL
game.

The impish Cincinnati Bengals receiver playfully tried to bribe an NFL official today during his team's game with its division rival, the Baltimore Ravens. With the Cincinnati Bengals up 14-3 in the third quarter, Ochocinco caught a 15-yard Carson Palmer(notes) pass near the sideline. The side judge ruled it a catch, but
the Ravens contended that Ochocinco's foot was out of bounds. While the ref was under the hood looking at the replay, Ochocinco borrowed a dollar bill from an assistant and playfully tried to hand the one-spot to another official.

Ochocinco was smiling the entire time and, as you can see above, the official put a stop to the hijinks before they really began. It didn't work, the ref overturned the call on the field and ruled that the pass was incomplete.

You're either going to be in one of two camps with this. Either you think it's hilarious (like me) or you think that the mere appearance of bribery toward officials is uncouth and needs to be dealt with swiftly. Judging by his track record, Roger Goodell will fall firmly in the latter camp. Expect a fine for Ochocinco, even though nobody will seriously think that this was ever meant to be anything but a goof.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun Times reports rookie strong safety Al Afalava will undergo an MRI on his right shoulder to determine the nature of his injury on Monday morning.

Afalava left the game in the first half when he missed an arm tackle on a running play.

"He ran through my arm and the shoulder went numb,'' Afalava said.

He originally injured his right shoulder in preseason, and has occasionally appeared on the injury report this season. The Bears replaced Afalava with veteran Kevin Payne.

The bad:

1) IMHO, Harris should be cut tomorrow. He isn't good anymore, and apparently is a thug. I'm done with him, cut him. I hear what people say that he isn't that expensive... I hear it. I don't care anymore, cut him, I hate thugs.

2) Tackling on defense... I mean, wtf, do we not practice that at all?

3) Defensive scheming was absolutely atrocious, we blitzed when we should've hung back, hung back when we should've blitzed

4) We only have 1 halfway good FS on the team... Manning... I realize he is a reasonably effective NB, but the bottom line is that we need him at FS full time

5) Kreutz is unraveling before our eyes

6) After listening to the Alex Brown and Jay Cutler interviews... I'm picking up a sense that Lovie has lost the team... maybe I'm reading that wrong, but I'm starting to sense the team doesn't believe in the system anymore

7) Pass rush was non-existent and rush containment was absolutely for sh*t in the first half

8) So... we are going man to man against the best WR in the NFL huh... yeah, that is exceptionally dumb

9) I'm actually starting to think we don't specifically game plan on defense against individual teams... how could we not double up Fitzgerald the whole day?

The good:
1) Once again, our WRs looked promising

2) Cutler is a stud and one tough SOB... and I love that the guy obviously cares about winning so much... I bet he told the ref to go f-himself on that 15 yard penalty :)

3) Olsen finally was used as a receiving TE... what a concept

4) Offensive line actually did ok today beyond the penalties

5) CBs did a reasonably good job of containing the best WR core in the NFL... people need to ease up on Tillman... he was man on man on the best in the biz today folks and he didn't let up a single really big play... he was doing exactly as the game plan dictated, don't mistake a bad game plan for a bad CB

6) Forte looked like Forte '08 today

Going forward:
Does Lovie deserve to get fired after this season... quite possibly (but keep in mind, 8 games to go). If we finish under .500... IMHO, Lovie deserves to be fired. 8-8 or 9-7... then he probably deserves 1 more go at it. Playoffs, Lovie deserves to stay around. Now... WILL Lovie be fired? No chance... the team will not eat 11 million.

Next 4 games: 2-2 (wins against SF and St. Louis, loses against Philly and Minny). Last 4 games: 1-3 or 2-2 w/the swing game being GB. I see us finishing 7-9 or 8-8.

I see Angelo forcing Lovie bringing in a new OC and DC next year though.

CHICAGO BEARS game been CUT AWAY to go to a

better game on television.

Theres seven games left...

either we go out like a bunch of moron idiots or we get

our shit wired...

and shit wired seems like a distant memory right now.

What the fuck has happened to this team?

Thats the question that you have to ask yourself.

This team doesnt deserve any smilies...except one...

:badmood:

We've been asking about this one for years...

but is it about time to rebuild the OL and DL...

thru the draft and without getting castoffs?

Can you name the OL and DL players that you wanted that we didnt get?

Where are they now?
