Now,  there is  Chicagoland Business Blog, Twitter, Google, Facebook, Ebay, Aol, Yahoo, and many other websites in my life now. It  is  a continual chore for an old school fool like me to figure out the basic computer technology absolutely involved in all the skills I must learn to effectively do my job .

I once thought I could bail out by having someone else do all the heavy lifting involved in computers relative to emailing,  links, listing, editing, posting, designing,  and all the other crap I must do to try and exist in this new world of technology.

All I want to do is call people and sell advertising. But that cannot be done anymore. Every dime made is attached to this computer. I just don’t know if I can ever get it. If I were just more capable, or had better aptitude with technical things life would be easier.  Sell, sell, sell used to be enough until the world went speeding by me with computers and more computers.

So, I don’t try to fight the inevitable anymore as I sit here typing with my same two fingers. I have surrendered to the torture of continually doing computer things that do not come naturally to me.  I will eventually transfer this rough draft to a word document by copying and pasting so I can spell check this column. That’s actually progress. A while ago I did not know how to do almost anything with a computer.

I am still like a person who can only drive forward because I do not know how to back up. What pain I am in no matter what support others will give me. It’s embarassing to ask the same computer questions to others over and over. But, to get the traffic up on this site I need to use all those different sites I mentioned and I need to know a whole lot more.

I have actually had a good time listing sports T shirts, sweatshirts, CDs, and other stuff on my eBay site this weekend.. I am really not proficient there either but I am capable enough to photograph and list my items so it’s fun.

Then, I need to post this column on Tweeter, Facebook,Google, and Yahoo so some of you out there will see it. Anyone else would have an easy time understanding and doing all of that. To me , it’s eating computer spinach.

Want To Invest In An Internet Newspaper?

Here is the start of another long holiday period of down time. Christmas thru New Years is what many people wait for all year with good reason. Wonderful celebrations, family and friends enjoying each other, fun with the children, food, drink, plenty of time to share love. . Uncles, cousins, brothers, sister’s boyfriends, girlfriends, dogs and cats. Everyone in one big festive mood every year at this time. I remember enjoying these holiday times too. That’s over. Now, it all sucks for me.
No money has done that in large part. So, instead of being happy tonight I am just pissed and frustrated. This year has been a terrible one with devastating personal economic consequences. No party, party, party for me. I am just sitting here alone wondering how I will ever make this internet newspaper succeed. . It could be worse I know. My health is good as is the health of my grown family. But my pocketbook and bank accounts are depleted. Also, hope is fading because this internet newspaper is in major need of funding and support. Without that funding this great idea will not make it long term.
Too bad. It has unbelievable potential. Almost anyone running an ad in Chicagoland and actually the whole country could be successful advertising here. I am a tremendously talented old school ad salesman. I can get almost anyone to buy if they will just get into seeing what this is all about. But it’s a hard, hard job for one man. I cannot reach people and get them to check it out. They are too busy, distracted, and ultimately I lose many sales because taking the steps to make a proper evaluation is so tedious that most buyers just don’t care to get into the process.
So I call and call and try to get ad buyers to recognize my diamond in the rough. The entire process of calling buyers all day long, many who have no internet experience is like climbing a mountain barefoot Selling space in a new advertising publication is like pulling an elephants tooth with your bare hands. Of those who take the time to look I have an amazing rate of success. Count the ads you see in CBB which is only about 6 months old. It is all me and my one capable assistant who only edits and monitors the site.
So, I need much more traffic, more content, more writing, and more salespeople. More, more, and more of everything. I am ready to tip over. I’m so tired of Twittering, Facebooking, advertising in Craig’s list, sending emails, calling, calling and calling prospective advertisers who are almost ready to close a deal but just cannot sit still long enough to finish a deal. They like Chicagoland Business Blog but have every reason in the world why they cannot take the time close their deal now. Ok. I’m desperate but not defeated. But, the clock is running. Anyone hear me?

Now, Monica Lewinsky, Bill Clinton’s famous in house party girl claims he lied to the grand jury about their affair. Exactly what did he lie about? Also, did something besides oral sex happen in their White House tryst? Was Bill too quick on the trigger? Tell us Monica.

How sharp is Hailey Glassman? She is the ex-girlfriend and complete dope who loaned Jon Gosselin $90,000 to pay back ex-wife Kate Gosselin with. Supposedly, it was her life savings including her Bat Mitzvah money. Now Hailey, let me ask you, what would your smiling, proud, sweet, parents, friends, relatives, and others have thought of you blowing your envelopes on a useless celebrity? You should give all of them refunds. You certainly had to be the dumbest kid at your own Bat Mitzvah.

How about honest John Edwards cheating on his wife while he was preaching to us with such sincerity about family values, morality, and honesty? His wife, forgive me, was just as bad, standing there and backing him up as he spewed on and on about why he should be elected President. You could puke.

The reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians had more then 4 million viewers Sunday night.

I would like to know how many members of the Tiger Woods Sex Club there were? Seems that there ought to be some serious background checking going on. We are curious.

Tiger Woods is supposedly worth about 600 million. The kicker is that there is no 50/50 split on community property in Florida which the Woods are residents of. So, this could be big but I think it will settle quickly. Tiger will be back. Much lighter in the pocketbook though. He is too valuable to vanquish.

The Ex-Governor of New York, another honesty crusader, Eliot Spitzer is trying to make a comeback doing interviews.

Speaking of Eliot, his old New York call girl friend, Ashley Dupre, is now writing a sex, love, and relationship column for the New York Post. All these men like Woods, Clinton, Letterman, Grant, Spitzer, etc etc get brutalized and punished financially and morally by the press and public.
Ashley Dupre, a former call girl and not even a celebrity gets hired by a major newspaper and is making money only because she slept with Spitzer.
So, Spitzer gets thrown out of the game and Dupre gets put in the game for doing the exact same thing. Now, that is the ultimate double standard that I love about this country.

It does not really matter what you do but who you do it with. If not for Eliot, she would still probably be making a living in her former line of work. Is this world a big whorehouse or what? The country is only interested in schmutz so that’s what they get.

I find people like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Howard Stern, Don Imus, Bill Maher, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker and all the rest of those who become wealthy promoting themselves by radical words and deeds to be totally brilliant businesspeople.
Never forget. They all started as plain newscasters, actors and actresses, preachers, radio and TV personalities or whatever. Somewhere along the line each decided that fame and all the wealth that follows could be attained if they really crossed the line. So each one did.
At some point every rabidly opinionated or way out public figure realized that the big money is in really going crazily off the radar. Not just by being a little extreme but by recklessly and virulently flying off the wall in rhetoric and tactics.
Many millions of people love those who espouse and defend unpopular and far out positions or who act out in unconventional ways. Many other people love to hate those same people who they are so terribly offended by. Either way, the radical personalities win. It’s all about arousing emotions if you want to become a big name. Those people get monstrous amounts of attention by appealing to certain huge segments of the population. That sells advertising and makes them rich. Hats off to all the legal rabble rousers who really get to us. The know what makes us common folk tick
The ability to make people love you or hate you when you get in the public eye is indeed the path to riches. Forget the old expression “Go west young man, go west, to achieve success. It is “Go radical young man, go radical”. Then, if you do it right, enough people will love or hate you to put you on the map. Right Paris, Donald, Brittany, Jessica, Amy, Kim, and all the rest who do it with their words, looks, and actions.
Where would those famous people be and tons of others you can easily name if they never took their positions and lifestyles to such radical lengths? They would be regular stiffs like you and I trying to make a living. They would be grinding away each day to make ends meet rather then making millions each year by signing their name on a new book or screaming and yelling from their pulpit.
So before you are so affected by utterances and actions of those big name personalities doing their thing remember that they have found a way to make a big living by preying upon your emotions. If going another direction worked then they would flip flop in a heartbeat. We are all played like suckers everyday. They know that. Some of you do not.
To be clear, I am not talking about the demented animals out there that only get publicity by hurting themselves or others by illegal, uncivilized, horriffic actions. Criminals, deviants, lunatics and such other monsters are not who I am talking about. They should all be dead. I am talking about all the people who have learned to work the system by working within the system.

Well readers, there seems to be some legitimate complaints about the column I wrote on Flomax a few days ago.
