On May 11, 2011, a ceremony was held at the Central Office of the Kansas City Public Schools
to recognize students completing the city’s first Junior Police Academy. The program, offered in partnership with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, Kansas City Public Schools District and the National Junior Police Academy, was an accredited course offered to high school students.

In attendance to address the group of graduates and family members were Mayor Joe Reardon, Chief Rick Armstrong (Kansas City, Kansas Police Department), Assistant Chief Terry Zeigler, Officer Steve Williams, Kansas City Public School Board member Vicki Meyer, Director of Student Services Lisa Garcia, Superintendent Dr. Cynthia Lane and Phillip LeConte, co-founder of the national Junior Police Academy.

Recapping The Best 2012 Super Bowl Commercials

For some people there’s the Super Bowl. You know, the actual game between the New York Giants and New England Patriots (the one the Giants won). And then for other people there are the commercials. The 2012 version of the biggest commercial day of the year had a couple of highlights for me.

First, the Ferris Bueller Honda ad was pretty good. It’s hard to go too wrong when you bring back old characters like that. I think the 2013 Super Bowl should include a Saved by the Bell commercial. Perhaps A.C. Slater could endorse some sort of weight lifting products. Or maybe Zack Morris promotes a hair company. Whatever. I like these sorts of ads.

I’ve also got some news here. The best Super Bowl commercial was (I think) only aired in Canada. Check it out after the jump. It’s Monday morning so tell us any of the commercials that were memorable.

New York Giants Are Super Bowl Champions, Beat New England Patriots (Again)

They did it again.

The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, 21-17, thanks to yet another comeback that reminded you of the Super Bowl these two teams played four years ago, a game the Giants won.

No play will be remembered more than Mario Manningham’s 38-yard reception to kick off the Giants comeback drive. It was the first play of the drive and Manningham made an incredible over-the-back reception near the sidelines. He had two guys on him — one right behind him and a safety coming right at him — yet he still managed to haul the pass in and keep his feet in bounds. Here’s video of that play.

From there, Manning took the Giants down the field before Ahmad Bradshaw punched in the final touchdown with 57 seconds remaining. Bradshaw almost went down at the one yard line so that the Giants could run out the clock but his momentum carried him into the end zone. Here’s video of that play.

The Giants are the champs. At least it was a good game.

Super Bowl 2012 Start Time Nears; Get Your Predictions In

The New England Patriots and New York Giants are only hours away from the kickoff to Super Bowl XLVI. Game time is at 6:30 p.m. ET and it will air on NBC.

This will be your open thread for the game (I’ll bump it up to the top of the home page closer to kickoff). Here is the essential information for this year’s Super Bowl:

You can watch the Super Bowl online for the first time ever (legally that is). NBC.com is streaming it.

Here’s info on the Super Bowl pre-game show, which started at 12 p.m. ET.

There are a ridiculous amount of Super Bowl prop bets. Andrew Sharp checks out a lot of them.

SB Nation is posting lots of Super Bowl commercials before they air. It’s been a pretty popular set of posts all week.

The 2012 Puppy Bowl kicks off at 3 p.m. ET. This is the eighth Puppy Bowl of all-time.

We’ve got a good list of Super Bowl recipes posted as well. People love Buffalo Chicken Dip!

Finally, give us your Super Bowl predictions in the comments. Joel picked the Patriots a few weeks back and I’m going to say the same. I think the Patriots beat the Giants in another classic Super Bowl, 30-27.
