First Annual Human Trafficking Law Enforcement Training

Who Is Child Rescue?

Child Rescue is a non-profit organization that is working to eliminate child sexual slavery (child trafficking) in the US.

What will the training cover?

While the training is focused on law enforcement, there are many overlapping topics that are crucial for the law community to know in representing victims or supporting victim services organizations. We will have special sessions that address Utah trafficking laws, previous cases, victim recovery, federal trafficking laws, International Human trafficking, victim psychology, recruiting, human trafficking investigations for domestic cases and international cases, case management, effective prosecution.

When and Where is the training?

The training will take place on June 1st, and is being held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Training starts at 9 AM.

What will the training cost?

Training is free to all attendees and includes a luncheon provided by the award winning Utah Food Services.

Who is giving the training?

Apogee consulting will be conducting most of the training, including LAPD’s Officer in Charge of Field Training services and has worked directly in hundreds of trafficking investigations and arrests. Former sex-trafficking victim Natasha Herzig will address how quickly and easily she was trafficked into prostitution, how she escaped, how officers can know the signs of trafficking, victim psychology, and how protect our communities. Utah’s Human Trafficking Task Force will be addressing trafficking in Utah specifically.

Is Accreditation available for attending the training?

Because our event is not focused on lawyers/law students, the event is not CLE certified. But we have been told that attendees can submit to the Board of the Utah Bar Assn to receive individual accreditation approval.

How do I sign up for the training?

Attendees must go to www.childrescue.org for more information about the training and free registration.

Every single person can make a difference! I know this to my core. I know this because I witness people like you taking action and see the outcomes of your doing so.

You are people that know that kindness matters, that your time matters, and that your financial support matters. Even if it is in small amounts, here and there, and whenever you feel called to do something. You understand that our lives are more connected than we can imagine. You have all affirmed a new commitment for ourselves and others to live out compassion and to protect innocence, and this is what life is all about. I am always humbled by the greatness in others to move toward something bigger than themselves.

Child Rescue

I just have to add a special note to this one. $6,000 raised with only ONE donation over $100. That is amazing. You shared this bucket with your neighbors door to door, passed around a bucket at your high schools and colleges, emptied your tip jars at work, even hosted a Zumba benefit. YOU did this. And once again, perhaps more solidly than with any other bucket, you proved that no one it too small to make a difference. Thank you.

Please help us raise enough money to fund our First Annual Law Enforcement Training, which will be held June 1st 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah. This training will ensure that police officers receive the training and resources needed to protect our children and rescue those who are enslaved in our communities.

How It Works

We have a goal of raising $5,850.00 to cover the balance of the costs for our upcoming Law Enforcement Training. You can go to http://tippingbucket.org/ and donate as little as 1$ to the cause, if we reach our goal by April 21st (10 days from now) credit cards are charged and we get the donations, but if we don’t reach our goal, nobody is charged and we don’t get any of the money. Make sense? That’s why we need YOUR HELP to reach our goal! Every drop in the bucket helps!
So please, donate a dollar and help us Tip this Bucket. For more information and to donate go to http://tippingbucket.org/

If you’re in the Utah area you’ve probably seen a lot of media coverage on Human Trafficking lately. Unfortunately though, it’s not success stories you’re hearing, it’s that one of our partners and friends, the Utah Health and Human Rights Project (UHHR) will no longer be offering services to victims of human trafficking due to threats they have received. It’s really sad that they have to shut down their services, especially because they were monumental in helping so many people to freedom and recovery. The UHHR was Utah’s leading organization to provide assistance to survivors of such atrocious acts.

It’s interesting how you could take this though… I’m sure many of you see this as a victory for the traffickers, being able to shut down such an amazing organization’s services… I see it as threatening… to the traffickers. They obviously see the impact that organizations such as the UHHR are having in our society, and are worried about their “business”, or maybe even have found it more difficult to continue “business” with so much light being shed on their heinous acts. I completely understand UHHR’s reasons for stopping their services… how can you help others if you’re unable to help yourself? The threats they have been receiving were increasing in frequency as well as severity, they were concerned about the safety of their clients and staff. Such an organization should be run in close quarters with the police and have sufficient security and safe houses. Hopefully, Utah’s Human Trafficking Task Force will see the need for such security measures and there will soon be another shelter to offer aid for victims of human trafficking.

I came across this article the other day and thought it was super interesting. Basically, this woman couldn’t sleep at night and went online to her favorite little blog hub, where a fellow blogger posted a plea. He had two friends from Russia who were in the US and promised jobs, which had fallen through. Stranded in a new country, they were then given a phone number and told to call “George” for a new job in which they’d have to hop a bus to New York and meet with “George” at a night club at midnight. Daniel (the friend) immediately knew something was up and tried to get the girls to reconsider, when they wouldn’t, he pled to his fellow bloggers who came to their rescue and stopped a potential and probable human trafficking ring from taking advantage of his two young friends.
