Review: Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation

Once again, I've fallen victim to "clever" advertisement! Basically..., I finally caved, and bought the new Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation. Seeing that I love the Covergirl Outlast 3 in 1 Foundation so much I thought that it would be worth a shot.

You should know:

It's oil-free.
Comes in about twelve shades.

Its claims: This liquid foundation's oil-free formula provides medium coverage to even skin tone and cover imperfections. The result is a flawless, natural look that lasts all day.

Pros:

It's lightweight.
It's blendable.
Only oxidizes a bit (most foundations oxidize on me because of my oily skin).
The price is great (under $10).

Cons:

It has light to medium coverage (I prefer a bit more coverage).
May irritate sensitive skin.
Does not stay matte for more than two hours.
Does not set well into skin, giving it a "cakey" appearance.

Even after two weeks, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this foundation... As I mentioned, it seem like the product just sits, almost like a film, on top of the skin. At first I thought that it might be the primer I was using underneath it (Hourglass Veil Mineral). But, when I tried it without the primer I got the same effect, except that it looked "oily" within an hour. It seems like this foundation is not ideal for oily skin, and is better suited for drier complexions.

However, I recently watched gossmakeupartist's latest video where he mentions that applying rose water after a powder product will result in a natural finish (check the video out here). Covergirl's website does mention that this foundation has a "built-in powder system"; so maybe this is what's causing the problem. I guess I'll try this "rose water method" out for myself and let you know!

DIY: Cork Board

Ok, so I've gone a little "DIY crazy"... Literally, I now have an entire drawer dedicated to my arts & crafts supplies. This time around, I've prepared a very simple, very pretty, cork board. Not only is it a great tool for staying organized (especially for "back to school") but, it also doubles as great wall decor!

It only takes four easy steps!!!

You'll need:

Frame
Multi-surface acrylic craft paint
Foam brush (in my experience, it delivers an even coat)
Cork (amount depends on size of frame)
Scissors
Glue gun

Step One: Paint the frame in whichever color you prefer. Wait one hour (approximately) in-between coats.

I chose the Martha Stewart Multi-Surface High Gloss Acrylic Craft Paint in Beach Glass.
In my experience the paint dried quickly (about 30 min.) & did not have a strong odor (so, I was able to work inside).

Step Two: Cut cork to fit frame. Include and extra quarter of an inch to allow some space for glue.

Step Three: Once frame is completely dry, proceed to glue the cork on the backside of the frame.

Step Four: Allow glue to properly dry.

And, you're done!!! Your new cork board is ready to be displayed!

I absolutely love how this project turned out! It's beautiful & a wonderful tool to stay organized.

Everything I used was purchased at Michael's Craft Store but, you can probably find some of these supplies at Target, Wal-Mart or similar stores.

Review: Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream (Combination to Oily Skin)

For a while now, I've been on the hunt for a good drugstore BB Cream. Especially now for summer... Sometimes you just don't want to walk out with a full face of makeup on a hot day (Am I right?)! So, I finally decided to pick up the very buzzed about, Garnier BB Cream. I've already had it for about two week and thought that I was ready to share my take on it with you.

You should know:

This review is only on the combination to oily skin version of this BB Cream.
It's oil free.
Contains Broad Spectrum SPF 20.
Comes in four shades: Fair, Light/Medium, Medium/Deep, & Deep.

Its claims: Immediately mattifies, minimizes pores, and conceals imperfections to give skin a naturally smooth, flawless finish.

Pros:

Feels very light on the skin (you forget you have it on).
Does not clog pores or cause breakouts.
Has a matte finish.

Cons:

Does not conceal redness or imperfections.
Does not minimize the appearance of pores.
Does not have buildable coverage.
Is runny & watery (be very careful when unscrewing the cap, product may disperse).
Does not stay matte for more than an hour.

This product may not have worked for me but, there are still a lot of people who do enjoy it . If you look at the box it comes in, it states under "purpose" of the product: "sunscreen" (which is very interesting). It gives me the impression that it is more of an "in-between step", and not meant to be used on its own (and substitute foundation).

Regardless, let me know if you enjoy this product and why it works for you! But for now I think I'll just stick to my Jouer Matte Moisture Tint.

Hey guys! Today I'd like to share with you my first ever, very awkward YouTube video. Its totally noticeable how nervous I was at the beginning but, I start to loosen up...eventually! I'm not gonna lie... this was so hard to film! Phones rang, car alarms went off, trains passed by, oh, and neighbors stared through the window. You have no idea how much more respect I have for YouTubers after this experience. But, at the same time this could not have been more exciting!!!

My goal is to have my Blog & YouTube channel compliment one another. So, things you see here will be different from what you see there...unless requested otherwise. I've been pretty good with posting here once a week (Tuesdays) & would like to do the same for the channel (probably Thursdays).

The bracelets featured in this OOTD are part of NiTa's "Ex-Mermaid Collection". The second I saw them on Instagram I just knew I had to have them. You get good quality, stunning, unique pieces for a great price. A total must have!!! Make sure to follow them on Instagram & on Facebook for updates on new designs.

I also wanted to quickly mention that this dress is real denim, which means...the color bleeds...like a lot! So for those first couple of washes keep it away from all of your light colored clothes. And for extra precaution, try not to pair it with a light colored purse either. I personally haven't had it stain any of my clothes or accessories but, I'd hate for it to happen to someone else!

DIY: Floral Shadow Box

As some of you may know, I recently moved to Atlanta, which means: new room to decorate!!! I've managed to get all the essentials and some decorations here and there, yet I couldn't help but feel like there was something missing. Then it hit me... ART! There was just too much empty space on my walls. And so the search for the perfect piece began. I managed to come-up empty handed every time. For the most part the inexpensive pieces weren't my style and the ones I loved are way too expensive.

So, since I couldn't find an ideal art piece for my room, I decided to make my own!

I thought it would be nice to share with you this super simple project that anyone can do! Really, it's only 3 steps!

You'll need:

Back loading shadow box
Artificial/Silk flowers (make sure you have enough to fill your box)
Wire cutter or scissors (depends on choice of flower)
Windex or any glass cleaner

Step One: Remove all contents in the shadow box (pins, paper, instructions, etc.) & clean the inside glass with Windex or any other glass cleaner.

Step Two: Remove flowers from stems (some pop right off, but if they don't, cut them with a wire cutter or a scissor if there is no wire) & start arranging them however you desire.

I chose to remove the individual petals because I didn't like the look of the entire Hydrangea smooched up against the glass. But, like I stated before it all depends on your choice of flower!
If you're using individual petals, keep piling them up. You want to create pressure once you close your box so nothing will shift or move.

Step Three: Secure the back of the shadow box into place.

And you're done!!! All that's left is to hang it up.

I had lots of fun with this project & I love how simple it is to put together. Hopefully this has inspired you to take on a DIY project of your own!

Everything I used was purchased at Michael's Craft Store but, you can probably find these supplies at Marshalls, Target & Wal-Mart or similar stores.

OOTD: White Out

As part of my venture to step out of my comfort zone, I've rediscovered the color white. I say "rediscover" because it's not a color I gravitate towards, actually... I avoid it. A long time ago I declared white pants as my worst enemy. I always found them to be so unflattering on my full-figure body. They drew attention to the features I was most uncomfortable with (my butt & thighs). But, I've decided to wave a white flag and give them a second chance. So, to really test my new found confidence & style limits I put together a mostly white on white outfit with a hint of color!

OOTD: Goodbye Blues

Well, here's a little update on my life! First, I graduated from college two weeks ago & earned my BA. I had so much fun at graduation & finally being done with college isn't so bad either. And..., I moved from Puerto Rico to Atlanta!!! It's been hard saying goodbye to the place I've called home for my entire life. Plus, it's where most of my family and friends are! I know it's not forever (I promised everyone it would only be for a year), but I'm gonna miss everyone so much, not to mention my beautiful Island. But, I must admit that Atlanta has been a lot more welcoming than I anticipated. I thought it to be very intimidating and that hasn't been the case at all. Everyone here has been so friendly! Not to mention, I live near two huge malls. It's a shopaholics dream!

On my last weekend in Puerto Rico I spent some time with my friends at La Concha Resort. We had lots of fun and took some great OOTD pictures.

Review: Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil

I'm ridiculously lazy when it comes to removing my makeup! Come on, admit it...you are too! ;P Laziness aside, it's essential not to skip this step before heading bed. Sleeping with your makeup on can clog pores, cause breakout, and even lead to premature aging. So, it is very important to establish a night time skincare routine. I've just recently added the Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil to my routine and wanted to share my thoughts on it with you.

You should know:

It does not contain: parabens, sulfates, & phthalates.
Formulated for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Product must be applied to dry skin (directly on makeup).
Be sure to massage product in for at least 30 seconds.
Be sure to follow up with your daily cleanser of preference.

Its claims: An effectively gentle way to deep cleanse, this refreshing cleansing oil dissolves impurities and makeup without leaving an oily residue.

Pros:

Truly remove all of your makeup, including waterproof mascara.
Gentle enough for sensitive skin, doesn't sting eye area.
Leaves skin feeling refreshed & clean (no residue left behind).
Does not cause breakouts.
Wonderful alternative to makeup wipes (faster, gentler, cost-effective).

Cons:

Can temporarily cloud your vision (only for a couple of seconds).
It takes two to three pumps of product (instead of the the one to two suggested).

I bought this product on a total whim and could not have been more surprised. I think I just found a new "holy grail" product! It literally get all of your makeup off in a matter of second, which is perfect for a lazy person like me! As awesome as this product is, you should always follow up with a cleanser to ensure that your skin is squeaky clean before your "beauty rest"!

OOTD: Wearing Confidence

All of my life I've been overweight... And for the longest time I used to think that there was something severely wrong with me. I hated what I saw in the mirror, and more than anything in the world I wanted to be "skinny" (yes, "skinny" not "healthy"). Being overweight kept me from so many things: talking to people, going out with family, hanging out with friends, & even raising my hand in class. I dreaded the thought of people looking at me and judging me. Over the years I started to come out of my shell but, it never fixed the real problem: the way I viewed and valued myself as a person. The problem wasn't that I was overweight... it was that I hated myself for being that way!

All those years I focused on what other people thought about me, and not on what I thought about myself. It never dawned on me that people will only perceive what you allow them to see! If you put out the "vibe" that you're ashamed of the way you look, people will notice and assume that there is something wrong with the way you look... because you know what...? You gave them that power!

Confidence begins with acceptance. It's you accepting who you are, the way you are! Its gaining self worth and not allowing anybody else to tell you you're worth any less!!!

It took me 22 years to be able to wear a two-piece swimsuit on a public beach but, I DID IT! And, it felt so good!!!

Worth It: Mani & Pedi Products

Going out to get a mani/pedi once in a while is fun, but it can also be expensive. I think it's safe to say that most of us appreciate the look of nice, clean and well kept nails. And the best way to do that without breaking bank is to do it yourself! This means that you need the proper "tools" to get the job done.

Today I'd like to share with you guys some of my "must have" products for a DYI mani/pedi.

That being said here is a small list of tools everyone should already have:

Note: I'm not particularly committed to any brand when it comes to these items.

Cotton balls
Nail polish remover
Nail clippers
Nail file
Cuticle nipper
Cuticle oil
Cuticle pusher
Callus remover
Foot file

Now, the following are my tried-and-true favorite products for an awesome mani/pedi:

Studio 35 Beauty Buffing Block: Possibly, what I love most about this buffer is that it is so inexpensive. Buffing blocks wear-out over time and need to be replaced; so why splurge when you can save? This four-sided block from Walgreens evens, smoothes, buffs, and shines. You can use it before applying nail polish or skip the polish and go for the natural, clean look!

LaVaque Go Green Crystal Nail File: Did you know that crystal nail files are a green alternative to emery boards? LaVaque's files are made from recycled material and are non-pouros (meaning that they can be sanitized and disinfected). Plus, it was designed to last for years! I've found that this file is much gentler on my nails that an emery board. It leaves my nails feeling nice and smooth. I got mine at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Essie All in One 3-Way Glaze: This product works as a base, strengthener, and top coat. Truthfully, I only use it as a base. It does a great job at priming my nails before I apply color. My manicures last longer because of this base coat!

Revlon Colorstay Gel-Shine Top Coat: To be totally honest, this product is so hard to find and I may fear that it was discontinued. But, I have been able to get at Walgreen. Still, this is one of the best top coats I've ever used. Just like the name suggests, it leaves your nails super shinny! It actually does look like you just got a gel manicure, except that you saved a couple of bucks!

Essie Quick-E Drying Drops: If you are anything like me, you need this amazing product. I seriously cannot stay still... and always manage to ruin my manicures! Needless to say, these drop have completely solved that problem. All you need to do is apply 2-3 drops over your top coat and you are good to go. They dry almost instantly! I am so thankful for this neat invention!

Be Natural Callus Eliminator: You won't believe how much time and effort you'll save with this product. It literally does the work for you! All you have to do is soak your feet, apply the product, wait 3-5 minutes, and file the rest away. It'll leave the soles of your feet so soft. Even though it's a tough/professional product, it's totally safe to use at home. I picked up mine at Sally Beauty Supply.

Must See: Les Misérables

As most of you might already know... I love Broadway musicals! And, on May 31st I was fortunate enough to see Les Misérables on stage in NYC. As you can imagine, I was so excited that I would be watching this (oh so) classic musical live.

In March, Les Mis was finally brought back to Broadway. This revival was produced by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who also produced the musical back in the 80s. Actually, in 1987 it won the Tony for Best Musical (to much of his credit). This year it has been nominated for three Tony Awards: Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical (Ramin Karimloo), and Best Sound Design of a Musical (Mick Potter).

Summary:
Les Mis is a sung-through musical, has little to no spoken dialogue, based on Victor Hugo's novel (of the same name). The story takes place in 19th century France during the course of about 17 years (1815 - 1832). It centers around Jean Valjean and his quest for redemption. The main antagonist is Javert, a relentless inspector who vows to find prisoner 24601 and "not rest until he is safe behind bars". Throughout the years Valjean meets many other characters; including: Fantine, Cosett, the Thénardiers, Marius, and Éponine; who change and shape his life in different ways. The musical brings to light the themes of mercy, forgiveness, love, loss, God, morale, corruption, rebellion, and many more.

My experience:
I have to say that no other musical has affected me the way that Les Mis does... constant goosebumps!!! The musical numbers are out of this world amazing & very moving! And hearing & seeing it live really does make all the difference. The scenery, props, and projections are just outstanding. I wouldn't have expected less from such a "big name" production. However, as much as I hate to say it, there was one thing that was off... The musical numbers during Act II seemed to be a bit rushed. It was as if the orchestra was playing too fast and the actors where trying to catch up with them. This was incredibly evident during the number, "Stars" and "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" (which are two of my favorites). Nonetheless, this incident did not in any way ruin my experience. Like I said before, this musical affects me in a special way. And if you are like me... you will cry! So make sure to take a few tissues! I absolutely love this musical & I love the fact that I got to see it on Broadway. I sincerely could not recommend it enough!!!

It's no secret how much I love YouTube... So, I wanted to dedicate today's post to some of my favorite Beauty Gurus. The truth is that if it weren't for these amazing people I wouldn't know as much about beauty products, application, brands, & techniques as I do now (of course, I'm no expert... not even close!). Not only are they informative, but they're entertaining and most of all inspiring.

Bear in mind these are just some of my favorites (if I were to include all of them this would be a very long post!). Let's start the list! Also, I have linked their channels (just click on the names).

Michele1218: If I'm not mistaken, I've been watching Michele the longest (even before she got engaged, married, and had a baby! Actually, before I created a YT account). One of the things that I have always loved about Michele is how honest and specific her reviews & tutorials are. Oh, and she really knows her stuff! Make sure you check out her "Battle/Comparison" videos (they're spot-on and not to mention awesome!).

Gossmakeupartist: Where do I begin...? I have learned so much from watching Wayne. With 15 (or plus) years of experience in the makeup industry, it seems like there is nothing that he doesn't know. If he recommends it, you best believe I'm looking into it! Wayne has never failed me. On his channel you'll find great tips & amazing reviews. Honestly, he's like the best friend you have always wanted.

CheckInTheMirror: Rachel is the epitome of lovely! Plus, she has amazing taste! I just love how insightful her reviews & tutorials are. And, her cheerful bubbly personality is absolutely infectious. Her channel is not all about beauty, it's also about fashion, food, health, and home decor. I should also mention that her husband, Byron, also has a channel (ByronTalbott) where he shares amazing recipes. Make sure to subscribe to both of them!

Amarixe: I've also been watching Allison's channels (beauty & vlog channel) for some time now. I particularly enjoy her videos because we have similar tastes. She's a girly girl, like me! At the end of each month I look forward to her "Monthly Favorites". Also, on her second channel she gives wonderful book reviews, "AllisonReads", and sometimes responds to her favorite TV shows, like Pretty Little Liars.

Itsjudytime: Judy is just awesome! If you're looking for great makeup tutorials Judy's channel is the place to go. Her "First Impression Reviews" are some of my favorites. Best of all, she has a vlogging channel (Itsjudyslife) with her husband, Benji, and three daughters (they just had twins... can you say "Super-parents"?) where they upload every day. Their little girls are absolutely adorable and they are so down to earth! You won't be able to get enough of them.

Review: Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet

About three weeks ago I wrote a post discussing my favorite foundations (check it out here). One of which was the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua. In it, I mentioned that I was thinking about picking up the new Perfection Lumière Velvet because it might suit my skin type better. So, I did! I've been using this foundation for two weeks now, and couldn't wait to review it for you!

You should know:

It comes in about nine shades (some with pink undertones and others with yellow).
It's oil-free.
It's also water-based (best applied with fingers or a brush; never with a sponge).
Before application you must shake the product well.
Similar to the Vitalumière Aqua, but not the same.

Its claims: A lightweight second-skin foundation. It naturally smoothes and evens out the complexion for a velvety matte makeup result.

Pros:

It's lightweight (yet a bit thicker than the VA).
Offers light to medium coverage.
You don't have to shake it as much as the VA.
Very blendable / evens out complexion nicely.
Smooth velvet finish.
Sets fast (I don't have to wait more than two minutes to apply setting powder. Actually, if you have dry skin you could probably skip the setting powder!).
Wonderful rose water scent (it's faint & refreshing). But then again, all Chanel foundations have that same great smell.
Long-lasting coverage.

Cons:

It oxidizes a bit (it's important to keep this in mind while selecting your shade; it also happens with the VA).
The packaging (even thought I love how "practical & travel friendly" it is... I never know how much product is left in it or when its finished!).

I guess this goes without saying but... I love this foundation!The Perfection Lumière Velvet took everything the Vitalumière Aqua was lacking (in my personal experience) and perfected it. I am glad to announce that I have just found a new "holy grail" foundation!!!

Worth It: Hair Products

All of my life I have had wavy, dry, frizzy hair. Actually, for most of my childhood I just thought I had frizzy uncontrollable hair that could only be tamed with a blow dryer... Big mistake! The constant heat completely fried my hair! Eventually, I was introduced to "mousse", which turned my hair wavy. And wavy it stayed!

I find myself constantly switching out my shampoo and conditioner because my hair conforms to products easily (after a while they no longer have the same effect on my hair). However, there are three products that I repurchase over and over again. No matter how many times I use them I still get the same great result!

Without further a due, here are my three favorite hair products:

Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Envy Perfect Curl Cream: Well that was a mouthful... seriously how many times did I write "curl"? Name aside..., I thought I would start with my most recent discovery. I've been using this product for three to four consecutive months now (I just keep coming back to it). This product hold up to its claims: eliminates frizz, adds moisture, adds shine, and fights humidity. The humidity part is a big plus for me because I live in such a humid environment and, up to now no other product has been able to provide this "protection". It defines my waves/curls nicely without leaving my hair feeling "crunchy" or weighing it down. Honestly, the only con about this cream is the scent. Don't get me wrong, it's not an offensive odor; I'm just not crazy about it (but, that could just be me).

L'Oreal EverSleek Precious Oil Treatment: This oil treatment is a mixture of argan, sunflower, and olive oil. Its main purpose it to prevent frizz and condition the hair. Also, it's formulated for all hair types. I like to apply to this oil directly onto towel-dried hair and before the Curl Cream. I also make sure to concentrate the product on my ends. I will say that this product might not suit everyone... some might find that its too greasy or that it can weigh your hair down. If this is your case, you can always try the Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Weightless Healing Dry Oil (seriously, what's up with these long name?) I used this "weightless" oil for a long time and it was a great product but, I find that L'Oreal's EverSleek does a better job at conditioning my hair.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask: Ok, I love this product!!! I remember using this hair mask once a very long time ago and liking it but, for some reason I stopped using it. Oh how I wish I hadn't! It would have prevented so many bad hair day... But, the important thing is that it made its way back into my life! I use this hair mask once or even twice a week, if my hair looks extra dry or frizzy. Just substitute it with your normal conditioner and leave it in for about five minutes. It'll leave your hair extra soft & shiny. I truly believe that this product has saved my hair. It has never looked and felt healthier.

One of the things that I love most about these products is that they're affordable. Yup, they're all from the drugstore! How great is that? Also, I've included links to the items that are still available online (just click on the item's name).

Must See: Favorite Audrey Hepburn Movies

During my early teens I (like many others) wasn't really sure of who I was or who I wanted to be, and found inspiration in a very special lady, Audrey Hepburn. What has always captivated me about Audrey is how well rounded she seemed to be. She was elegant, sophisticated, intelligent, talented, & (maybe most important of all) a humanitarian. I think this is why she is so iconic and means so much to so many people. To this day, she is one of the people I idolize the most.

On Sunday, May 4th, Google honored Audrey with a Doodle in celebration of her 85th birthday. That got me thinking about which are my favorite Audrey Hepburn movies of all-time. In an effort to be brief, I choose to share with you my personal top five!

1. Funny Face (1957) - Two words: Fred Astaire! I have to admit that I'm a bit impartial to any movie with this man in it. He is unarguably one of the greatest stars of all time! Fred did it all: act, sing, and dance (and boy could he dance). Funny Face showcases all of Fred Astaire's talents along with Audrey Hepburn's. In this musical Audrey plays Jo, a bookshop employee and amateur philosopher who gets wrapped into a exciting adventure in Paris. This movie is just plain fun. Between the music, choreography, fashion, and scenery you don't have time to get bored. It's absolutely S'Wonderful!

2. Sabrina (1954) - In this romantic comedy Audrey plays Sabrina Fairchild, the chauffeur's daughter, who is madly in love with David, the Larrabee family's youngest son. But, David doesn't even notice Sabrina (yea, like you wouldn't notice someone like Audrey Hepburn...). However, Sabrina undergoes a transformation and becomes an elegant and sophisticated woman. The problem is that David is not the only one who notices, his older brother, Linus (played by the legendary Humphrey Bogart), does as well. This movie is just beautiful! The outfits that Audrey wears are absolutely stunning. So stunning that in 1955 the film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. And then of course, the film is full of romance and has some great comedic scene (mostly delivered by William Holden, David). It will sweep you off your feet.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) - This is undoubtedly one of Audrey's best known films. Here she plays (the oh so iconic) Holly Golightly, an eccentric socialite, who isn't really who she seems to be. Everything starts to change in Holly's life when she meets her neighbor, Paul, and they start to grow fond of each other. In one word, this film is captivating! It has it all: romance, comedy, fashion, and beautiful scenery (it is set in New York's Upper East Side after all). I can almost guarantee that after seeing this film you'll be running out to purchase a little black dress of your own.

4. My Fair Lady (1964) - Yet another great musical! This time around, Audrey portrays a poor flower girl with a strong Cockney accent, Eliza Doolittle. One day, she is recruited by the arrogant and pompous Professor Henry Higgins, played by Rex Harrison (who also played Professor Higgins in the original stage adaptation), so he can conduct an experiment and win a bet. Will he be able teach Eliza to speak properly and pass her off as a duchess at the Embassy Ball? And in the process, will Professor Higgins fall for the Cockney flower girl? This charming musical is filled with great numbers, beautiful costumes, and magnificent scenery. In 1964 it won eight Academy Awards, including: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. It's a classic for a reason!

5. Charade (1963) - In this fun romantic comedy/mystery Audrey is the newly widowed, Regina "Reggie" Lampert. Reggie starts to discover that her late husband had some dark secrets. And, consequently she is thrown into a wild adventure alongside a mysterious stranger, Peter, played by the wonderful Cary Grant. This movie has lots of mystery, romance, comedy, and lots and lots of plot twists. It is just so amusing! You'll find yourself at the edge of your seat (along with a development of "trust issues"!).

I honestly have to restrain myself from continuing the list! These are just my personal favorites but, there are so many more great Audrey Hepburn movies out there. Some very honorable mentions are: Roman Holiday (which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1953), War and Peace, and Paris When It Sizzles. Like I said, the list can go on!

Audrey was, and continues to be, the epitome grace and kindness. And that is something that will never be "passé". Here's to a true classic!

Worth It: Foundations

Today I thought I'd share with you guys my top five foundations. I say top five because I actually own a couple of more foundations that I'm not so fond of. See, the reason I have various foundations is because each one offers different consistencies, application, coverage, and longevity. That being said I'll divide them into three categories: full coverage, medium coverage, & light coverage.

Also, I should tell you before that I have oily skin with mild hyper-pigmentation. Living in Puerto Rico means that I constantly battle with humidity. Oily skin with humidity is not an ideal combination, so I always try to keep my skin as matte as possible.

Now, lets jump in!

Full Coverage:

Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation: I'll start with my most recent purchase. To be honest I have only used this foundation twice but, I already know I love it. Just like the name suggests it gives an airbrushed look to the skin. And it is particularly good at concealing the redness in my skin. I also like that it doesn't have a completely matte finish; it has just enough dewy-ness to look natural. It dries very fast, so you have to make sure to blend quickly. My preferred application method is to spray the product to the back of my hand and then apply it to my face with a brush. I find that directly spraying it on the face causes a huge mess (you get it everywhere), which consequently causes you to waste product (and you paid good money for it!). I see myself getting a lot of use out of this foundation.

Estée Lauder Double Wear: Now, this product is a well known cult classic, and for good reason. It is an amazing reliable foundation that you will find yourself reaching for over and over again. It really is full coverage and has a completely matte finish. However, because of the humidity I always make sure to apply a bit a setting powder before I head out the door. But, be sure not to apply too much powder or it will look cakey. Also, have in mind that a little goes a long way, or else you will get that same undesired cakey effect. I like to apply this product with my Beauty Blender because it distributes and blends the foundation evenly. This is my go-to foundation for events and special occasions because I know it will last all night/day & look great in pictures.

Medium Coverage:

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation: I previously talked about this foundation in my Worth It: Makeup Products post (if you haven't checked it out click here). Like I mentioned before, this is a great drugstore foundation and just an amazing foundation all around. It's definitely my everyday foundation of choice. It lasts all day and blends effortlessly into the skin. I just love how natural it looks. Like with my Double Wear, I apply it with my Beauty Blender. I'm currently on my second bottle of this foundation. I just can't live without it!

Light Coverage:

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua: I must confess that this foundation is not the most ideal for my skin type. It does not keep my skin matte and it doesn't offer much coverage. So why is this my third bottle of this product? Well... It feels wonderful on my skin! This foundation is water-based, so it's almost refreshing to put on. And, it is so light that it literally feels like you're not wearing any makeup at all! Once again, it's water-based, which means that applying it with a sponge is not advisable. I like to use my paddle foundation brush (Sigma F60) to apply and blend this foundation. Chanel recently came out with the Perfection Lumière Velvet, which is suppose to be similar to the Vitalumiere Aqua but, with a matter finish. I can't wait to try it for myself. Jouer Matte Moisture Tint: Ok, so I cheated... This product isn't a foundation; it's technically a tinted moisturizer. But, I felt the need to include it because it offers just enough coverage that it can be worn on its own as a light coverage foundation. It does a very good job at evening out my skin-tone. Even though it does have a matte finish, this product is not formulated to be long-lasting, so just remember to finish it off with some setting powder.

I will shamelessly admit that I spend a lot of time on YouTube… I can't help it, there's just so much to watch!!! Throughout the years this site has led me to discover many talented people. Some are gifted with comedy, others create amazing looks with makeup, and some are just plain entertaining (so entertaining that we wonder what they are up to every day… those vlogs can be so addictive!) And then there are those who use Youtube as a platform to showcase they're gift of song.

I wanted to share with you guys today some of my favorite original songs by various YouTube artists.
(Listed in no particular order.)

Once in a Lifetime - Landon Austin: …This song… boy does it tug at the heartstrings! It's such a beautiful love song. And then of course there's Landon Austin… what a dreamy voice! I made this discovery thanks to Fleur DeForce's wedding video (very suiting). What I love most about this song is that it's very cinematic… it literally plays like a movie in my head. I just know it will always be one of my favorite love songs. Also check-out Stop Time, another great song from Landon.

Dear No One - Tori Kelly: I have officially claimed Dear No One as the theme song to my life. That being said, what drew me (and many others) to this song was its relate-ability. I found Tori through her cover of Suit & Tie (Justin Timberlake). And from that point on it was evident to me that this girl can sing!!! She really deserves to make it big, and hopefully her new manager Scooter Braun (Justin Beiber, Ariana Grande, Cody Simpson) can make that happen. Another amazing song from Tori is Treasure.

Dear River - Kina Grannis: I have followed Kina ever since she came out with In Your Arms (you have to watch this music video; it was make entirely with Jelly Beans!) And ever since then she has grown so much as an artist. Dear River is evidence of this! It's an absolutely beautiful song with fun tribal elements. So well done!!! I can't wait until her album comes out on May 6th.

If I Ever Lost You - Tom Law: Another song I found thanks to Fleur. This song is fun and catchy. I dare you to listen to it only once! Not only is Tom very talented, but he's also a cutie! Another great song by Tom is Never Met You. He also does an awesome cover of Pharrell's Happy.

Candles - Natalie Lungley: Now, the only way I can describe this song is beautifully haunting. I have no idea why this girl isn't a superstar yet!!! She is amazing! I literally love every song cover she has done. But, what really blew my mind was her cover of Lana Del Rey's Born to Die. Just go to her channel and see for yourself. I promise you won't regret it!

Rooftops - Sara Niemietz: This song is amazingt but, Sara's voice is out of this world. So talented! And, it doesn't hurt that she has teamed up W. G. Snuffy Walden (Emmy Award Winning musician). She reminds me so much of Norah Jones. I can listen to this girl sing forever. My favorite cover that Sara's done is the Etta James's At Last. It's so lovely it cannot be put into words.

Like I mentioned before, I wanted to talk a bit about Free People. This is truly one of my favorite clothing brands. For one, they have managed to find a beautiful balance between bohemian & edgy. A style that I have always found appealing, especially since I live in Puerto Rico. And second, the clothes fit & flatter my plus size figure! See, bohemian style clothing tend to be more "spacious" and not so "body conscious", so I'm glad to say it's a style I can rock!!! Also, even though Free People's sizes range from XS to L, they run a bit bigger (maximizing comfort). So, I encourage you to stop by Free People during your next shopping trip (here in PR there's a section in Macy's second floor). You might just find a new favorite brand…! Happy shopping!!!

Worth It: Makeup Brushes (Eyes)

As promised, today I wanted to share with you which are my favorite eye makeup brushes. These are my five "go to" bushes whenever I apply eyeshadow, eyeliner, concealer, and eyebrow powder. (If you haven't checked out my post on "worth it" face makeup brushes then click here!)

Like I mentioned in my previous post, there are three main factors I look for in good quality brushes:

Soft synthetic bristles
No shedding
Keep their shape

Clockwise: Sigma E40, MAC 195, Anastasia 12, MAC 239 / Center: Sigma E05

Here are my "top five" eye makeup brushes:

MAC Eye Shader Brush - 239: This is probably the first "real" makeup brush I ever purchased. That being said, it's been with me for about eight years. This brush is dense, yet soft. So, not only is it great at building up color but, it also allows you to go back and blend out any harsh lines left behind. I can always rely on this shader brush to get the job done.

Sigma Tapered Blending - E40: I mostly use this brush to blend out my crease. Actually, sometimes I even use it to apply the color before I blend it. Its big & fluffy but, at the same time dense & precise. I truly love how it does its job effortlessly.

MAC Concealer Brush - 195: This is actually the only concealer brush that has worked for me. And it's the only one that I use for my under-eyes. All others just don't distribute the product as evenly as this MAC brush does. I tend to blend any concealer on the rest of my face with the Beauty Blender. On a side note, I also use this brush to "clean-up" the edges of my lips with a bit of concealer whenever I use red lipstick.

Sigma Eyeliner - E05: This eyeliner brush is amazing! I use this brush along with my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. What makes this brush so great is that it keeps its shape. This is important for all makeup brushes but, even more so for an eyeliner brush. The E05 is precise & tapered and, it stays that way no matter how many times you wash it. It delivers a nice smooth line every time.

Anastasia Large Synthetic Duo Brush - #12: They say that "eyebrows frame the face"... So, consequently you need the proper tool to define them correctly. This brush is great at just that, offering precision. For me it's not just about filling-in the brow; it's about creating nice & clean edges. The best part about this brush is that it's a "two in one" tool. When you're finished filling in your brows just flip the brush over and blend with the spooley to ensure that they stay looking natural.

OOTD: Out Of My Element

Lately, I've been making a "conscious" effort to add color into my wardrobe. You see, I "subconsciously" gravitate toward dark colors… Black to be more specific. I think it has to do with the fact that from a young age I was always told that wearing black makes you appear slimmer. True or not… I gave up on trying to appear slimmer. I just want to be confident & happy!!!

Worth It: Makeup Brushes (Face)

I don't pretend to be a professional but, through years of trial and error I've learned a little something about makeup… At least I'd like to think I have! Truth be told, the quality of your makeup brushes will determine the way "you look" (your makeup look, that is). What's it worth having an great foundation if you don't have the correct tool to apply it with? Allow your makeup products to meet their potential by investing in the right application tools.

There are three main factors that I look for in good quality makeup brushes:

Soft synthetic bristles (I have sensitive skin so this factor is important to avoid irritation)
They don't shed
They keep their shape (especially after being washed)

That being said, whenever I apply my makeup these are the face brushes that I rely on to do the job:

Note: I haven't included the Beauty Blender (since it's not a actual brush) but, it's the tool I use to apply most of my liquid foundation.

Sigma Large Powder - F30: Last year I bit the bullet and decided to invest in a good brush kit. I chose Sigma's Mrs. Bunny Essential Kit and I've never looked back! This large powder brush is probably my favorite in the kit. It's big and fluffy but, compact at the same time. It provides precise application of powder (so the powder doesn't end up everywhere except your face). In my experience, a good powder brush is the most difficult to find since they're so prone to shedding. And, I'm so glad I found this one!

Sigma Foundation - F60: This tapered foundation brush provides flawless application. This is the only other tool I use to apply foundation besides my Beauty Blender. What I love about it is that it's not stiff like similar brushes. Its flexibility makes foundation easier to blend, ensuring you don't get a streaky application.

Sephora Angled Synthetic Blush - 130: This is a brush that I've had for years and it has never failed me! Originally designed for blush, I find that it actually works best with bronzer. It picks up just the right amount of product and delivers very precise application (great to achieve a chiseled look). It's the only brush I use to contour.

Sigma Large Angled Contour - F40: I thought this was going to be the brush that would replace my Sephora 130 but, alas it couldn't. Even though it didn't meet my countouring needs, it turned out to be a great blending brush. Once I'm done applying my bronzer and blush I use the F40 to blend-out any harsh lines. It also does a decent job at applying blush. Ultimately, I'm very glad I found another use for this brush.

Sephora Pro Airbrush - 55: I purchased this brush with the intention of using it as a foundation brush… Long story short, that turned out to be a disaster. However, I refused to believe I had just wasted my money and was determined to give it a new purpose. After playing around with my products, my Airbrush 55 was reborn as a blush brush! And, so far it has a done a wonderful job at applying the appropriate amount of product to my cheeks (I fully admit guilt to overdoing my blush once or twice).

Review: Kate Somerville Purify Clarifying Cleanser

Anybody who really "knows me" knows that I'm very particular about my skincare routine. See..., I have sensitive & oily skin, which makes it very difficult for me to find the appropriate products to fit my needs. Previous products either caused break-outs or did nothing for my skin. These frustrating experiences taught me to research products before purchasing them!

My latest research led me to Kate Somerville. This brand has a wide range of products: cleansers, toners, exfoliants, masks, etc. Having such sensitive skin I decided to go for a cleanser. So, I picked up the Purify Clarifying Cleanser, which is targeted for oily skin.

Its claims: Removes impurities, like makeup and excess oil, and reduces the appearance of pores.

Main ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Peppermint Oil, and Rosemary Leaf Extract.

I've been using this product for about a month. Here is my experience with this cleanser:

Pros:

Leaves skin clean & refreshed (the peppermint oil creates a nice tingling sensation)
Great at removing makeup (light & heavy application)
Good oil control
Reduces the appearance of pores
Reduces blemishes & hyper-pigmentation
A little goes a long way (you only need a dime size amount)

Cons:

First use caused a stinging sensation (it literally only happened that one time… but, it kinda freaked me out)
Caused dry patches for the first week (for two days I went back to the Neutrogena Naturals Acne Cream Cleanser, a product that did nothing for my skin)
Its expensive ($32)

As of right now, I actually enjoy this product (even after the whole drying my skin out incident). I use the Clarifying Cleanser twice a day, morning and night. And, I truly do see a difference in my skin!!! However, for someone with sensitive dry skin I would recommend they try the Gentle Daily Wash instead. What cleanser works for you?
