RAM (Random Access Memory) adalah satu komponen yang bertanggung jawab terhadap
semua aktifitas sistem komputer. Semua proses
aplikatif yang berjalan pada
sistem akan tersimpan di
dalam RAM, baik itu yg
diperlukan ataupun tidak
diperlukan oleh sistem
komputer. Proses-proses yg
tidak diperlukan oleh sistem
inilah yg sering menyebabkan
komputer berjalan lambat,
error , ataupun nge hang/lag.
maka dari itu, kita perlu
untuk selalu rutin
menyegarkan kembali kinerja
RAM. Masalahnya adalah anda
butuh tools tertentu, atau
menggunakan cara
konvensional untuk
menyegarkan RAM. nah, ane
kali ini akan membahas
bagaimana cara menyegarkan
RAM dgn hanya memakai
notepad saja.

Jalankan aplikasi notepad
dulu.. habis itu ketik bentuk
script berikut ini..
Code:

FreeMem=(1280000000)
FreeMem=(2560000000)
FreeMem=(5120000000)
FreeMem=(10240000000)

Simpan script dalam format file Vbscript (Vbs). klik menu file->Save as.
kasih nama, misalnya Refresh RAM.vbs dan klik tombol save utk menyimpan script. Untuk menyegarkan kembali RAM
komputer cukup lakukan double
click pada Refresh Ram.vbs
secara otomatis script tsb akan
refresh/menyegarkan kembali
RAM kompi..

Beberapa hari yang lalu temen saya menanyakan kepada saya apakah ada cara untuk melacak orang yang menelepon kita dan mengetahui lokasi orang tersebut sepertu yg sering kita lihat di film film detektif yang bisa melacak lokasi targetnya dengan menggunakan alat khusus.Terinspirasi film tersebut disini kita akan mencoba melakukan hal yang sama namun dengan menggunakan bantuan dari mbah Google.Pertama langkah yang harus kita lakukan adalah Buka https:/ /www.google .com/ latitude/
b. Log In menggunakan akun Google anda.
(Google Akun anda adalah login yang sama yang
Anda gunakan dalam layanan Google seperti
GMail, dll.).
Skip and use Latitude on your computer
c. Setelah kamu meng-Klik beberapa pilihan, lalu
masuklah ke link "Tambah Teman" (letaknya di kiri
atas halaman). Klik pada menu drop-down di
bagian atas kotak dialog dan pilih "All Contacts."
d. Cari sampai kamu menemukan informasi kontak
untuk orang yang teleponnya ingin kamu lacak.
Klik "Teman" tab pada halaman Google Latitude,
kamu akan melihat Google Map di sebelah kanan.
Di sebelah kiri peta adalah daftar teman Latitude.
Klik pada nama teman kamu dalam daftar untuk
melihat mana ponsel orang tersebut di Google
Map. Anda juga dapat melihat berapa lama telah
sejak lokasi itu terakhir diperbarui
e. Kemudian, yang lebih menariknya lagi, aplikasi
ini bukan hanya mencari lokasi saat ini saja.
Dengan Google Latitude ini Anda dapat juga
mencari history (sejarah ) lokasi terdahulu dari
"target pencarian kamu", dan juga melihat status
online/offline dari layanan Google Talk yang
mereka gunakan.

Sekedar info:
- Cara diatas bisa kamu lakukan jika kamu online
menggunakan komputer/laptop.
Jika kamu online melalui perangkat mobile maka
ada beberapa perbedaan. Google Latitude
memerlukan Anda dan orang lain untuk menerima
pelacakan. Anda tidak dapat melacak ponsel
seseorang tanpa izin orang itu.
- Google Latitude akan menampilkan lokasi Anda
dan teman Anda di Google Maps. Jika telepon
yang dilacak tidak memiliki kemampuan untuk
menggunakan satelit global positioning atau GPS,
maka Google masih dapat melacak lokasi umum
dengan menggunakan menara seluler atau BTS
terdekat.

menggunakan Google Latitude ini dapat

Sprint's variant of the HTC Flyer - the HTC EVO View 4G - is finally getting a taste of Honeycomb, bringing it up to par with competing Android tablets. Originally launched with a heavily customized version of Android 2.3, the View 4G is now receiving an over-the-air update to Android 3.2.1. As you'd expect, the update brings Honeycomb to Sprint's version of the Flyer, featuring HTC's Sense overlay, and on-screen buttons which replace the View 4G's capacitive keys – here's the full changelog for this 217MB update:

This update adds Android 3.2.1 (Honeycomb) and a new virtual and holographic user interface. Updates include:

Saat perjalanan mudik bisa saja pemilik
smartphone Android menghabiskan waktunya
dengan men-download aplikasi dan
menjalankannya dari beragam tempat yang dilalui.
Tapi apakah anda tahu bahwa saat inilah
smartphone Android Anda justru terancam
disusupi virus. Anda bisa saja asyik bermain games
yang diunduh dari layanan berbagi di internet, lalu
tiba-tiba Anda akan mendapatkan link menuju
situs yang siap 'membuat hang ' ponsel Anda.
Ini bukannya hal yang mengada-ngada, setidaknya
Trend Micro, mencatat di pertengahan tahun ini
saja terdeteksi malware Android berupa 3 installer
palsu untuk update aplikasi, yakni Androidos_
ADSMS.A , Androidos_Dordrael .l, dan Androidos_
crusewin.A . Yang terbaru tentu saja ditemukannya
malware android, bernama Droid Dream Light
(DDLight), yang telah memakan korban 25 aplikasi
terinfeksi serta antara 30.000 hingga 120. 000
pengguna percaya mereka telah dipengaruhi.
Nah, buat mengeleminir hal tersebut, dengan
mengamankan smartphone Anda dari hal-hal
yang paling sederhana. Team dari Trend Micro,
telah merumuskannya untuk pengguna, terutama
agar Anda bisa nyaman dan aman menjalankan
aplikasi selama perjalanan mudik nanti:
1. Gunakan standar fitur kemananan yang ada di
dalam smartphone Android Anda.
Masuklah ke dalam menu > Setting, lalu Pilih >
Location & Security > masukkan data seperti no
PIN dan Password untuk menlock smartphone
Anda. Hal ini sangat bermanfaat untuk
mengamankan data-data pribadi saat ponsel Anda

4. Hati-Hati Saat Sebuah aplikasi meminta ijin
Anda untuk membuka akses data pribadi.
Pada beberapa aplikasi yang diinstal biasanya
meminta ijin Anda untuk membuka beberapa
data, tapi Anda harus yakin tidak memberikan ijin
akses untuk masuk ke dalam data pribadi seperti
list kontak telepon
5. Gunakan aplikasi keamanan khusus
smartphone Android.
Hati-hati dalam menginstal dan membuka link
tertentu adalah cara sederhana, tapi lebih dari itu
disarankan Anda juga menginstal aplikasi

sebagai aplikasi resmi yang seolah-olah ditawarkan
dari dalam Android market. Beberapa pengguna
telah menginstal aplikasi tipuan tersebut sebelum
Google menghentikan layanannya segera setalah
mendapat reaksi dan respon dari pengguna yang
waspada.
Setidaknya hingga tahun depan, saat Android
menawarkan aplikasi seharga 10 cent saja untuk
merayakan 10 milyar download, pengguna
biasanya cenderung terpancing untuk menginstal
aplikasi dengan biaya murah tersebut tanpa sadar
mereka telah menggiring masuk malware.
Karena itu lah untuk membantu pengguna, Trend
Micro memberikan panduan agar pengunduh bisa

Tips pertama: Cek lah developer dibalik
pembuat aplikasi yang ditawarkan

Kadangkala jika kita mendengar MP3 ada kalanya
suara lagu antara satu lagu dengan lagu lain tidak
sama, kadang- kadang lagu pertama suaranya
menggelegar sedangkan satu lagu lain suaranya
kecil, pasti deh kita sebagai pendengar MP3
rasanya agak jengkel. lewat software yang
bernama MP3 Gain, file berjenis MP3 ini mampu
dibuat bisa normal, bahkan suara yang tadinya
terdengar pelan dapat dibuat menjadi lebih besar.
dan satu lagi software ini berjenis freeware .
Berikut ini adalah cara-cara penggunaan
software ini:
1. First step tentu saja jalankan software ini,
kemudian klik Add files untuk memasukkan MP3
yang akan kita normalisasikan suaranya (disini
saya mencoba untuk memperbesar suara MP3 ).
2. Sebelum memperbesar suara perhatikkan
kolom Target Normal Volume. Dalam kondisi
default, kolom ini terisi angka 89.0 Artinya dalam
kondisi default, aplikasi ini membuat file MP3 anda
berukuran 89.0 desibel. Kolom ini berfungsi untuk
menentukan berapa angka yang akan kita
keraskan suaranya.
3. Sedangkan ikon Track Analysis untuk
menganalisis berapa desibe volume suara MP3
anda.
4. Kalo kamu sudah menganalisis dan sudah
mengetahui ukuran aslinya yang bisa dilihat di tab
volume, jika dibawah 92 desible suaranya masih
pelan. Biasanya saya menggunakan nilai 98 pada
kolom Target Normal Volume. Langsung aja anda
klik tombol Track Gain untuk memperbesar suara.

Samsung just recently announced they will be
releasing two dual-SIM versions of the Galaxy Y in
Q1 2012, the Galaxy Y DUOS and the Galaxy Y Pro
DUOS.
The specs have the Galaxy Y DUOS sporting a
bigger 3.14" display than the original (3") , 3MP
camera (instead of 2MP ), slightly larger dimensions
at 4.32 " x 2.36 " x 0.47 ", 4GB onboard and of
course 2 SIM slots .
The Galaxy Y Pro DUOS has the same QWERTY
keyboard as the original, virtually identical
dimensions to the original, 3MP camera (over the
2MP) , 4GB onboard and the 2 SIM slots.
There really doesn't seem to be any need to
upgrade unless you need the dual-SIM
functionality. No word on which carrier these will
be appearing on.

The Valentine's Day release slate is getting awfully crowded. February 14 will see the launches of Twisted Metal, Grand Slam Tennis 2, and Binary Domain, not to mention the following day's PlayStation Vita First Edition launch and its accompanying software lineup.

The week's release schedule just got even more packed, as Namco Bandai confirmed a February 14 launch for Tekken 3D Prime Edition on the 3DS. The first Tekken game for a Nintendo portable since 2002's Tekken Advance, Tekken 3D Prime Edition features a roster of more than 40 fighters, from series mainstays Heihachi and Kazuya to recently introduced characters like Lili and Alisa. Namco Bandai is also promising wireless multiplayer action at 60 frames-per-second, and 3DS Street Pass support that will have players trading collectible Tekken cards with others while the system is asleep.

Beyond the fighting action, Tekken 3D Prime Edition will feature the Tekken: Blood Vengeance full-length 3D feature film. The movie follows the android Alisa and Xiaoyu as they get wrapped up in a Mishima family feud for control over the only surviving subject of a mysterious science experiment. It was also included as a bonus in the recently released PlayStation 3 Tekken Hybrid bundle.

bahkan sekarang banyak 'bertebaran' gadget berbasis Android dengan spesifikasi yang lumayan lengkap namun dijual dngan harga yang cukup murah. Namun ditengah tingginya popularitas maka banyak juga yang memanfaatkannya.Diantaranya adalah para hacker yang menyisipkan berbagai macam malware,spyware,adware dan virus ke dalam berbagai aplikasi Android yang mana aplikasi tersebut disediakan secara free atau gratisan yang kemudian diupaload ke dalam Android Market dan bisa di download secara mudah oleh para pengguna Android. Berikut ini adalah 7 virus android
yang terkenal sebagaimana ditulis detiknet (6/8 /11).
1. Android.PjappsM
Awal tahun 2010, penyerang mendownload
program sah dari Android Market lalu
menginfeksinya dengan malware Android.Pjapps.
Versi modifikasi itu didistribusi ulang ke
marketplace Android pihak ketiga. Selain menyedot
pulsa dengan mengirim SMS premiun, malware ini
menurut Symantec bertujuan mencuri data
personal user yang perangkatnya terinfeksi.

2. Android.Geinimi
Trojan yang dikenal bernama Geinimi ini
menyebar terutama di China. Ia menginfeksi game
Android dan begitu terinstall di perangkat
pengguna, perangkat itu jadi botnet mobile yang
bisa dikendalikan penyerang dari jarak jauh.

3. AndroidOS.FakePlayer
Menurut Symantec, program jahat ini
menyamarkan diri sebagai aplikasi media player.
Jika terinstall, secara diam- diam akan mengirim
SMS premium pada nomor di Rusia.

4. DroidDream (aka, Android.Rootcager )
DroidDream termasuk malware yang menggila
dengan menginfeksi sekitar 60 aplikasi berbeda di
Android Market serta menginfeksi ratusan ribu
user di kuartal pertama 2011. Malware ini
mengubah perangkat terinfeksi menjadi botnet,
menembus sekuriti Android, menginstall software
tambahan dan mencuri data.

5 Android.Bgserv
Beberapa saat sesudah terjangan DroidDream,
Google merilis tool untuk 'menyembuhkan'
perangkat yang terinfeksi. Namun penjahat cyber
turut mendompleng momen ini dengan merilis
versi palsu yang jahat. Beruntung tidak terlalu
berbahaya meski tetap bisa mencuri data.

6. GGTracker
Ancaman GGTracker dinyatakan cukup canggih.
Penjahat cyber mengelabui user dengan membuat
halaman web mobile yang terlihat seperti Android
Market di mana sebagian user terjebak
mendownload aplikasi penghemat baterai palsu.
Jika terinstall, malware ini akan mengirim SMS
premium dengan biaya sampai USD 40 per SMS.

7. DroidKungFu
Taktik pembuat malware ini adalah mendistribusi
aplikasi sah di Android Market, menunggu banyak
user mengunduhnya, kemudian menginjeksinya
dengan malware kala user melakukan update over
the air (OTA). Beruntung, DroidKungFu sudah
diketahui 'kejahatannya' sebelum menginfeksi user
sehingga tak jadi masuk ke Android Market.

Google Inc.’s Android software was the “exclusive” platform for hackers targeting mobile devices in the last quarter, McAfee Inc. said in a report Monday.
The amount of malicious software (read: malware) targeting Android devices jumped 37% between late June and late September, according to the digital security company’s third-quarter threats report. Following a previous quarter of spiking threats against Android devices, McAfee said 2011 is on track to be the busiest year in mobile malware history.
All new mobile threats identified by McAfee during Q3 were specifically designed to target Android users, the report said. Android’s popularity among cyber criminals has been growing in parallel to its popularity among consumers as hackers seek the largest possible group of victims.
Last week, communications equipment maker Juniper Networks Inc. identified what it called an “exponential” increase in Android malware over the last few months, noting 472% growth malicious software samples since July. Accelerating attacks against Android led Juniper to say “the months of October and November are shaping up to see the fastest growth in Android malware discovery in the history of the platform” in a Nov. 15 blog post.
“We’re seeing a mix of the traditional hacking community [working] on malware very similar to organized efforts on the PC side, as well as people who are just a little smart, the ’15-year-old kid crowd,’ who are able to hide some malicious content in an app,” Dan Hoffman, Juniper’s chief mobile security analyst, explained in an interview with ITbusiness.ca on Monday.
Far more attack apps have appeared in Chinese app stores that distribute Android software, Mr. Hoffman said.
Most of the new threats came in the form of apps on Google’s Android Market disguised as benign programs that secretly record and transmit a user’s activities once downloaded in hopes of obtaining sensitive financial information. However, the McAfee report also noted a rise in what many would consider an even deeper privacy invasion: malware capable of recording and transmitting phone calls.
“Two examples are Android/NickiSpy.A and Android/GoldenEagle.A — both of which record user conversations and forward them to the attacker,” reads an excerpt from page four of the report.
“Attackers can’t be sure that the first one or two calls have the information they seek, so these malware remain on the devices for extended periods without being detected; that’s a very persistent threat indeed!”
Researchers blame Google’s lax approval process of new Android apps in addition to the platform’s general popularity as the reason for the dubious honour. As the following excerpt from Juniper’s blog post explains, the process of removing an allegedly malicious app from the Android Market is reactionary based on user complaints and therefore open to sustained vulnerability.

How vulnerable is your smartphone to malware attacks? Android is by far the most targeted mobile operating system, but some popular Android phones made by Samsung, HTC, and Motorola, fare a lot worse than others.
Bit9, an enterprise-oriented security vendor, ranked the 12 most vulnerable cell phones (the "dirty dozen") based on how dated its software is out of the box. Android fragmentation is well documented, but your average cell phone user probably doesn’t care if he or she’s on Android 2.3 or Android 2.3.7. Functionally, the versions are similar.
However security-wise, it matters. A lot. For instance if a malicious app breaches an older version of Android, Google patches the vulnerability and releases an incremental update so that app can never exploit your phone again. Then it’s up to the cell phone operator to send your phone that update.
The timing of when you get these updates depends upon your cell phone operator and cell phone manufacturer, rather than Google, which is fundamentally different from how PC security is distributed (it would be akin to buying a PC from Dell and relying on Dell to coordinate with your home Internet provider, instead of Microsoft, to update your Windows software).
Unfortunately, not every Android phone gets updated to the latest version at the same time; pundits say carriers have no economic incentive to send updates to old or unpopular phones.
As a result, according to Google, 56 percent of Android smartphones are stuck on the 18-month old Android 2.3 Froyo, or older versions.
“We need to put pressure on the carriers. Why are they alone responsible for updating your security?” Harry Sverdlove, CTO of Bit9, told PCMag.

Apple's iOS is less fragmented because Apple retains full control over when it releases its software update. But fragmentation still exists, because newer versions of iOS either don’t work or perform uber slowly on models that are over two years old. Others iPhone owners are simply turned off by slow download speeds or excessively large files. Lookout Mobile recently discovered that 30 percent of iPhone users don’t download the latest version of iOS when it comes out, and therefore miss out on time-sensitive iOS patches.

Bit9’s findings may be preaching to the choir here, but its study is really aimed towards business workers who are ditching their BlackBerries for other popular operating systems—in droves. This week, one study claimed iPhone has surpassed BlackBerry as the most popular smartphone used in the office. But Bit9 and PCMag’s networking analyst Samara Lynn still believe BlackBerry is “tops for IT,” because it uses an enterprise server that gives companies full control over issuing updates.
As mobile malware matures, the targets will inevitably grow bigger and more lucrative.
“We’re going see more and more corporate attacks on smartphones, more spear phishing, more targeted email attacks. Given the landscape, it’s a ripe field that’s growing faster than the security itself,” said Sverdlove.

At the Developer’s Day in Mexico Nokia has revealed the upcoming two versions of its Symbian operating system, Carla and Donna.
Symbian Carla, which is set to introduce a new version of the Nokia browser version 8.0, will be the first to make its way to the market with a bunch of smart features bundled with it. It is intended for smartphones with a 1GHz processor or higher and is believed to be scheduled for release in late 2012. Symbian Carla also offers better widgets, NFC support with improved functionality and Dolby Surround Sound.
As for Symbian Donna, which will support dual-core processors, it has no confirmed details so far as Nokia did not reveal in their presentation some other features of the update; however, most probably it will be launched before the end of 2013 or the early 2014 and will be equipped to the rumored successor to the Nokia N9.
Nokia mentioned earlier that Symbian might be running over dual-core processors by year 2012 and that they plan to abandon Symbian in 2016.

As smartphones become more ingrained in our daily lives, a battery that can hold a charge all day is more important than ever to consumers. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.
Take Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 4S, for instance. Consumers flocked to Apple stores in droves to scoop up the device, only for many of them to discover that the battery screeches to a halt after eight hours or less.
Not good news for those becoming addicted to the device’s celebrated (and battery-sucking) personal assistant app, Siri.
Luckily for them, however, new research from Northwestern University could make battery anxiety for smartphone and tablet owners a thing of the past.
Let me explain…
Solving Capacity Issues With a Carbon and Silicon Sandwich
When you charge a mobile device’s battery, a chemical reaction forces lithium ions from one end of the battery to the other. The amount of time a battery holds a charge depends on how many ions you can jam into it at once.
This capacity is limited by how many lithium atoms a battery’s layered carbon sheets can accommodate. Right now, it’s not many.
But using silicon instead of carbon can boost the density of lithium ions considerably. Except silicon tends to expand and contract – compromising a battery’s ability to hold a charge.
So Northwestern University researchers decided to step in and tackle this problem.
You see, instead of replacing the carbon entirely, they figured out how to stabilize the silicon by sandwiching it in between a battery’s carbon layers.
As a result, they created a lithium-ion battery that can last more than a week without being plugged in!
But that’s just one benefit of their amazing breakthrough…
From 0% to 100% in 15 Minutes Flat
Carbon sheets don’t just lower a battery’s charge capacity. They’re also the reason it takes so long to charge our mobile devices in the first place.
Lithium ions need to travel to the edges of each carbon sheet before passing through them, creating what scientists call an “ionic traffic jam.”
To solve this issue, the Northwestern team punctured the sheets with tiny 10-nanometer holes. This resulted in the battery charging about 10-times faster – in just 15 minutes flat.
But there’s a catch: After 150 charges, this new system begins to lose its affect.
However, it would still take well over a year to reach 150 charges, since the battery lasts more than a week. So I wouldn’t worry about that limit. Besides, even after you reach this 150-charge threshold, the battery is still five-times more efficient than today’s technology.
When can you hope to get this stellar battery performance in your own devices?
Well, researchers see the technology hitting the market in the next three to five years. Meaning you shouldn’t expect to see it in the iPhone 5.

But as battery issues continue to plague some iPhone 4S users, perhaps it’s worth waiting for the seventh or eighth member in the Apple lineup.

3. Kindle Fire

Amazon rolled out the Kindle Fire at the end of last month, but its reverberations continued through October in anticipation of its Nov. 15 sale date. At $199, it’s the lowest-priced tablet from any major player. It’s running the Android operating system, but its home screen looks nothing like it, resembling a bookshelf instead — and that gives you a clue of its purpose: It focuses on content. In fact, it costs Amazon more to manufacture a Kindle Fire ($209.63) than its retail price, but Amazon, being “the world’s largest bookstore,” plans to earn its money from selling ebooks for its new tablet. There’s no 3G, no camera or microphone, but this handy little slab with its new Amazon Silk browser, dual-core processor, 8GB of storage and a 7-inch touchscreen might be just good enough.

Microsoft's big Mango update to Windows Phone brought the platform to version 7.5. It has over 500 new features, most aimed at the consumer, but some of these features will also help professionals.

1. Connecting to a hidden SSID: Some people use a hidden SSID under the illusion that it provides some level of security, even though it doesn't. Windows Phone 7 originally wouldn't connect to a hidden Wi-Fi access point at all. Now it will, but there is a caveat. The manufacturer or carrier also has to ensure the phone is running an updated Wi-Fi driver. If you have Mango and still cannot connect to a hidden SSID, contact your carrier. Mango has the capability and Microsoft has done all it can on this front.
2. Threaded email conversations: This is one of those love it or hate it features and some people love it. If you fall into that camp, then do nothing. Mango enables this by default. You can easily turn it off on a per-mailbox basis though.
3. Linked inboxes: If you have to manage multiple mailboxes, you can now see them all at once. Mango keeps the databases separate, but visually it looks like one big mailbox with all of your mail. A reply is sent from the mailbox it was sent to and all preferences are kept separate, so things like how long an email is retained and signatures are on a per-mailbox basis. You can link all, some, or none of your mailboxes, depending on your preferences.
4. Better live tiles: Live tiles in Windows Phone 7 were nice but didn't always function properly, especially third-party tiles. The more you had enabled, the more likely you were to run into problems. Once you had 15, you were maxed out. Additional live tiles were static. Mango upped the limit to 30 live tiles and improved the performance of all of them. They work best when a third-party developer redoes its tile to support multitasking. So feel free to add as many inboxes, people, and weather tiles to your homescreen. Having multiple weather tiles, with apps like WeatherLive, makes traveling easier as you can see the weather conditions at all of your travel destinations at a glance.
5. Contact history: This has been greatly improved. Simply pull up a contact in the people hub, or tap on a person if they are pinned to your homescreen, and swipe to the history section. You will be able to see all of your recent interactions with them via phone, SMS, and email. Tapping on any of those will bring you to that item. You could reply to an email right there, for instance. An additional swipe to the What's New section will show you their social interactions on Twitter and Facebook, including things like @replies to you.
6. Task switching: If you are like most professionals, you are doing multiple things at once. Twitter, email, checking out an Excel document, looking for directions, etc. Now you can seamlessly move through these by pressing and holding the back button. A task window showing thumbnails of recent apps pops up that will allow you to go directly to any of them. This works with all apps, but the experience is faster and more likely to return you to exactly where you were if it has been rewritten to support this feature. If you have ever used or seen the app-switching cards in WebOS, then you know exactly what this looks like.

This barely scratches the surface, but it gives you a hint of some of the improvements in Mango that makes the life of a professional, especially one that travels, a bit easier.

Your smartphone tracks your location for all sorts of useful things—driving navigation, updating the weather forecast, and even live traffic updates. However, if you'd rather not have Google and Apple tracking that information—not to mention having it available on your phone for thieves to find—here's how you can turn off location tracking.

Location tracking actually provides lots of useful things to us, but while Google and Apple collect all that data anonymously, it's still stored on your phone (and in Apple's case, your computer). Anyone with the right tools could easily find out where you've been with your phone over a significant period of time, so if you're worried about this, you may want to turn this features off. Here's how.

Disable Location Caching on Android

Luckily, Android's location tracking is actually an opt-in feature. You may or may not have enabled it when you first set up your phone. To find out, head to Settings > Location and Security, and uncheck "Use Wireless Networks". This will make applications like Maps a bit slower to grab your current location, and it won't be quite as accurate, but Google won't be collecting any location data, nor will it be stored on your phone thereafter. However, if you want to clear the previously cached locations from your phone, you'll need to rooted your device. Then after installing the free Location Cache app, you can view a map of your tracked locations on it, as well as clear them from your phone and disable the cache with one tap.

In iOS, the situation is a bit more complicated. Turning off location services will stop sending data back to Apple, but it will still cache your location on your phone, so anyone with access to your computer or your phone can see where you've been (since iOS syncs all that information back to iTunes). The only way to do anything about it is to jailbreak your device and install the previously mentioned Untrackerd app. Untrackerd is very simple, though, just install it, and it'll clear your location cache and prevent it from recording anything in the future. It doesn't even have an icon on your home screen—just install it and forget it.

Location tracking can be a great thing—in fact, we think it's one of the best things about smartphones. However, if you don't like the idea of big brother knowing your whereabouts—or if you're concerned about what could happen if your phone was lost or stolen—these simple tips should help keep your phones clean of location information.

Today, we are more dependent on computers and the information that they store than ever before. From spyware, viruses, and Trojans to identity theft and computer hardware malfunctions —any disruption can have a huge impact on our lives. No matter how savvy the user, safe computing practices are a combination of physical protections using computer software and security settings and the secure actions of the user. You need both to make a difference. Below are 10 tips that will help you protect your computer and ultimately the information stored on it.

1. Keep your computer updated:

1. In the evolving world of software viruses, it is essential that computer owners use anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date. Most anti-virus software gives the user the ability to do automatic updates.

2. Whether individuals choose to update their operating system software automatically or manually, we recommend making it a continuous process. It is also important to keep other software on your computer updated. Software updates often include essential bug fixes and security features that address existing vulnerabilities.

3. Finally, enable the personal firewall on your computer. This will help to keep unauthorized people from snooping around your computer when it’s connected to the Internet.

2. Create strong, secure passwords

There is power in strong passwords. We recommend passwords that contain at least 8 characters with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols. Strong passwords are less likely to be hacked than very generic passwords. Use creative pass-phases to avoid having to write down a password. Do not share your passwords with anyone.

3. Download files legally

Along with the possibility of significant legal penalties, downloading music and movies from peer-to-peer networks can be harmful to your machine. These downloaded files are sometimes riddled with viruses and spyware.

4. Keep personal information safe

Reduce your risk of identity theft. Never share your personal information via email, no matter how official the email looks. Official business that requires personal information should not happen via unsecured email.

5. Scan email attachments and validate links

In an effort to keep viruses off your machine, scan all attachments that are sent to you. Viruses can lurk in emails from friends and family. While you may be fooled about an email that contains a photo you would like to see from a friend, anti-virus software will know the difference. If you receive a link in an email from a trusted source, hover over the link using your mouse and look in the bottom bar of your web browser to reveal the true URL and validate that the link is legitimate. This will ensure that you know where you are going on the Internet, and whether or not you want to go there.

6. Lock your computer

When leaving your computer unattended, physically lock it to prevent theft of the machine. We also suggest that users lock the screen with a password to safeguard data.

7. Log off any public areas

Remember when using a public computer or network, it is just that…public. Be sure that you completely log off the site or machine when you are finished using it. Users should be especially mindful to uncheck boxes that will remember users’ login information when logging into online services, such as email and bank accounts.

8. Back up important data

We have seen final papers vanish—hard drives crash and files become corrupt. If you have important information that you cannot afford to lose, back it up. We recommend that you store this information securely and even consider storing extra copies at another location.

9. Limit information on social media sites

People will post almost anything on social media site. For many people, birth dates, anniversaries, addresses, phone numbers, and a lot of other personal information can be found on social media sites. Protect yourself from identity theft and other scams by limiting what information you disclose online and who can see that information.

10. Avoid surfing websites that you don’t already know

Browsers are quickly becoming one of the larger vulnerabilities in computing. Adware and spyware are written specifically to exploit Internet Explorer and Firefox. So try and stick with the websites you trust.

While these steps are not foolproof, they will go a long way towards extending the life of your machine and protecting the valuable information contained on it.

For some, the humble browser is little more than a gateway into the World Wide Web, and whatever version comes bundled as default with their computer is the one they use.
For others, however, the browser is much more than that – it’s a malleable, customizable tool that can be moulded to suit their Web-browsing needs. But which browser you choose will determine how and to what extent you can customize it.
Internet Explorer (IE) has pretty much dominated the browser market for some time. But as we reported last month, its dominance is starting to dwindle, falling from almost 60% market share in June 2009, to less than 45% today. Google Chrome, on the other hand, has shot up from a mere 3% to over 20% in the same period, with Firefox dropping a couple of percent.
Indeed, the latter of these has proven to be a major success story since it was launched by Mozilla Corporation in 2004, and it has even usurped Internet Explorer into number one spot in some countries – such as Germany, Austria and Poland. In fact, Firefox was the number one browser in Europe for much of 2011, with IE only recently regaining top spot – but they’re pretty much neck-and-neck.
What has made Firefox a formidable force has been its malleability, enabled through a vast selection of extensions created by third-party developers, and which have helped create a much richer Web-browsing experience. Extensions are one of three different types of add-ons, alongside plug-ins and appearance (themes and personas).
There are thousands of Firefox browser extensions, which are free to download and available instantly. Some of the more common ones you may have encountered include Adblock Plus, Greasemonkey, FlashGot and Screengrab. There’s certainly no shortage of great extensions, but we thought we’d highlight some of the Firefox extensions that Google Chrome wishes it had.

1. Integrated Gmail

Integrated Gmail (IG) is a neat Firefox Extension, making Gmail a much more pliable platform.

Among its features, Integrated Gmail lets you collapse your inbox and load the likes of Google Calendar, Reader, Google Maps, Picasa, Sites, News and more from within the main central pane. Furthermore, IG also lets you collapse the sidebar and header, giving you the full screen to construct your email.

You can also add Google Gadgets easily into the Gmail interface beneath the inbox, as opposed to in the sidebar, accessed through a collapsible box.
If you use Gmail a lot, you may wonder how you got by without IG. This extension helps you monitor multiple information streams all within one page, and there’s no need to keep countless different tabs open. It’s yet to come to Chrome…but surely it can’t be that far off?

2. DownThemAll

DownThemAll covers pretty much everything you need in a download manager, and Chrome could do with such an extensive download manager. It can increase download speeds and also allows you to pause/resume downloads.
This extension features a nifty download technique called ‘multipart download’ – it essentially divides files into sections that are downloaded simultaneously. This helps to maximize the bandwidth which increases the speed by up to four times.

It has other useful features such as letting users download all the links and images on a webpage, or you can stipulate that it downloads only what you need.
You can also manually add mirrors, to download from different servers simultaneously to speed up downloads. You can see a full list of the features here.

3. Firebug

Chrome, IE6+, Opera and Safari have Firebug Lite, but Firefox has Firebug, the real McCoy. It’s one of the must-have extensions for Web developers, and integrates with Firefox to give developers many tools to edit, debug, and manage CSS, HTML and Javascript while they browse.
If you encounter a problem where a particular element isn’t working, simply activate Firebug and click ‘Inspect’. Then, hover your mouse over the offending part and Firebug will divulge a lot of detail about what’s wrong.
But, it’s the on-the-fly editing of code that’s particularly alluring about Firebug, allowing developers to tweak and troubleshoot quickly. So, if your inspection finds a problem, hit the edit tab and start fixing.

4. Video DownloadHelper

Video DownloadHelper is an extension that helps you extract content from the Web.
It enables users to capture video and image files from many websites. As you’re surfing, DownloadHelper automatically detects that it can help you in some way, and a little icon becomes animated and the associated menu lets you download the files by clicking an item.
So for example, if you visit a YouTube page, simply click the little arrow in the menu bar, and you can download the video directly to your computer. It works with many video websites.

5. All-in-one sidebar

All-in-one sidebar is pretty self-explanatory in that it extends Firefox’s sidebar with a number of additional cool features.
You can open bookmarks, view browsing history, view/manage add-ons and more. It’s fully customizable too, meaning you can add and remove items and change how and where the sidebar’s displayed. If you only like intermittent access to the sidebar, it has a one-click show/hide option too. Click here for a full list of features.
If you’ve never used a sidebar, then you may not be too fussed about this extension, but many people have grown accustomed to this wingman, and Chrome’s yet to integrate such a feature.

6. Fox Splitter

Fox Splitter enables users to split Firefox’s window into multiple browsing panes, and you can choose how the panes are divided, e.g. top/bottom, left/right or a combination. This is very helpful for comparing Web pages, or even reading from one email whilst writing another.
So in effect, what you have is multiple windows navigable within one screen, and you can even synchronize the scroll state, so both screens scroll simultaneously or independently.
It’s a very malleable, customizable feature that you can chop and change to suit your browsing needs. Chrome does have similar extensions, for example Split Screen, but that is limited to two viewing panes and users are required to manually enter two different URLs. Plus, it doesn’t support HTTPS sites either.
