Fishing lures are generally more expensive than live bait due to their materials, manufacturing, and reusability, and between loss and damage, their costs add up to a pretty penny if you’re a frequent fisher.

Fishing lure molds and models come in as many types as there are lures themselves, and each one is better suited to different environments and different fish. Here we’re going to look at not only the best and coolest looking 3D printed fishing lures, but also which ones are best depending on the kind of fishing you do.

3D Printed Jig Lures

Jigs are what come to mind when most people think about fishing, and they are fairly simple to make as 3D printed fishing lures for just about any freshwater catch.

Because they’re weighted, jigs are good for catching bottom feeders like carp and bass, but you can also use them to catch anything from bream to salmon.

http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

As you understand more about the environment fish live in and how they behave, you will learn how to identify the best freshwater lures and bait for what you’re angling for during different seasons of the year.

FRESHWATER LURES

These are the most common freshwater fishing lures you can find in your favorite fishing tackle store.

FISHING JIGS

Fishing jigs are commonly-used freshwater lures equipped with weighted metal heads and a tail made of animal hair, soft plastic, feathers or rubber. Anglers sometimes add a minnow or piece of pork rind to the fishing jig's hook. Fishing jigs can be used to catch nearly every kind of freshwater and many saltwater fish. Learn more about the best jigs for catching bass.

POPPERS

Poppers are small fishing lures used with spin-casting tackle. These fishing baits are very good for pan fish and other fish that feed on the surface such as trout and bass. Poppers get their action from a cupped face carved or molded into the front of the lure body.

SPOONS

Spoons are metal lures designed to mimic the action of a swimming baitfish or minnow. They’re one of the most popular of all freshwater fishing lures because spoons are easy to use and are versatile. Depending on where and how you're fishing, you’ll want the right spoon – casting, weedless (or topwater), jigging or trolling spoons. Different spoons have different actions. And there are a variety of colors depending on the type of water and species you’re fishing. Ask your tackle shop which ones you need.

PLUGS

Plugs have a plastic or wood body and are designed to be used on top of the water or at depths below the surface. Topwater or floating plugs are designed to float on the surface. Diving plugs have plastic or metal lips so they will dive to a certain depth. These diving plugs are often called crankbaits because they are often used with bait casting reels that operate like a crank.

SPINNERS

Spinners have one or more blades that spin, or revolve, around a straight wire shaft. Some spinners have tails made of soft plastic or animal hair.

PLASTIC BAITS

Soft-plastic worms, minnows and crayfish are available in many sizes and colors. You can use them with or without a weight. Sometimes, plastic fishing baits are used with a jig head, spinner or spinner bait. Some plastic baits have a scent built into them that is attractive to fish.

http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

Types of Fishing Lures

Fishing with lures has many advantages:

Lures are less messy than bait.

Lures gut hook fewer fish (gut hooking is when the fish takes the hook deeply, or even completely swallows the hook).

Lures allow you to cover more water, even from shore or a pier.

You can target the species you are after more efficiently with lures.

Lures are easy to change out.

As far as disadvantages go, they are mostly related to cost:

Lures can be expensive compared to bait.

Lures can be snagged on underwater obstacles or in trees, and the price of them makes it especially painful to lose.

Fishing Hook Sizes Charts

There are 7 main types of lures: jigs, spinners, spoons, soft plastic
baits, plugs, spinerbaits, and flies. When you finish reading this, you
will be able to recognize each of these lures on sight and have an idea
of how to fish them (in fishing lingo this is called “Presentation.”)

Jigs

Of all lures, I would say that jigs are the most versatile. A jig can
catch about every game fish there is, and are inexpensive to boot. They
have a weighted lead head and come in every size and color and can be
“dressed” (think of it like a tail or skirt) in feathers, hair, a soft
plastic grub, or with the bait of your choice.

Presentation

Jig fishing takes a lot of concentration, unlike spinners, all the
“action” (how a lure moves in the water) comes from you. If you don’t do
anything the jig just sinks. The classic way to fish a jig is to cast
it out, wait until it hits the bottom (you will know it has hit bottom
when your line goes slack), then retrieve it in a series of hops. You
make it hop by lifting the rod tip, lowering it, and retrieving your
line. Try different speeds, big lifts, little hops, twitching until you
find what works. Pay attention, though. Detecting the strike is the
hardest thing about jigging.

Spinners

Spinners are a great beginner lure because they are so easy to use.
They are essentially a metal shaft with spinning blade. The hook can be
bare or dressed. Dragging a spinner through water causes the blade to
spin. The spinning motion of the blade creates sound and vibration that
can be picked up by fish through their lateral line (you’ll learn more
about this in the fish section.) This makes spinners an excellent choice
for stained or murky water.

Presentation

Simple as can be. Cast and retrieve, that’s it. As long as the blade
is spinning, its working. You can try speeding up or slowing down your
retrieve for variety.

Spoons

Spoons are curved metal lures. The first spoons were just that,
spoons with the handle broken off. Today, spoons can be had (like all
other lures) in any color and size. There is a spoon for every fishing
situation. The shape of this lure gives it its distinctive action.
Spoons move through water with a side-to-side wobble that simulates an
injured baitfish, and game fish just love injured baitfish.

Presentation

Some spoons are made to be cast, others to be trolled, and some even
to be jigged. As a beginner you will most likely be using the most
common type; the casting spoon. Casting spoons are easy to use. Like
spinners, just cast and retrieve. You can vary your speed as long as
it’s wobbling. If the spoon begins to spin, slow down your retrieve. Add
a split ring to the eye of the lure for better action.

Soft Plastic Baits

Soft plastic baits encompass a variety of different lures, mostly
used for bass fishing. The classic soft plastic bait is the worm. These
type of baits are created by pouring liquid plastic into a mould and
adding dyes, metallic flakes, or even scent. They can resemble the
natural forage of fish, like worms, crawfish, lizards or frogs, but some
plastic baits don’t resemble anything you might find in or out of the
water; these are referred to as creature baits or “critters.” The soft
plastic bodies of these lures, encourage fish to hold on to them a
little longer before they spit them out, giving the angler a better
chance to set the hook.

Presentation

Presentation for soft plastic baits depends on the type of bait. For
the classic worm, the most popular technique is the Texas Rig. To rig
your worm this way, you use a bullet weight (read the section on sinkers
in the terminal tackle post
if you don’t know what a bullet weight is). Thread the bullet weight on
the the line above your hook, and then insert the hook through the top
of the worm’s head, then bury the barb into the body of the worm to make
it “weedless” (meaning it will not get hung up on underwater foliage.)
Now cast it into a likely fish holding area and let it fall to the
bottom. Twitch your rod tip a few times. If you still don’t have a bite,
hop it back to you in short twitchy hops.

Plugs

Plugs are constructed from hollow plastic or wood to resemble
baitfish, frogs or other prey. They usually sport two or three treble
hooks. These hard bodied lures can be fished at almost any depth, as
some are made to float or dive or both. Depending on the design, a plug
will wobble, rattle or gurgle. They come in all sizes, and most of them
have some sort of plastic lip that allows them to dive when you pull
them through the water. Different kind of plugs include: crankbaits,
jerkbaits, surface plugs, floating/diving plugs, and poppers,

Presentation

One of the most effective (and one of the first plugs you should add
to your tackle box) is the long, narrow minnow imitation in three to
four inch length, the original is made by Rapala. It floats when its not
moving and dives shallowly when it’s retrieved. Add a split ring to the
eye if it doesn’t have one. Cast it out and wait until the rings on the
surface of the water dissipate, then retrieve it slowly or fast,
stopping suddenly and maybe throwing in an occasional twitch.

Spinnerbaits/Buzzbaits

Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits are awkward looking looking lures,
consisting of a safety-pin like wire attached to a lead head body. The
body usually is dressed with a rubber skirt and the arm with one or two
metallic blades like those seen on spinners.

Presentation

The most common way to fish a spinnerbait is what is called
“Chuck-N-Wind,” simply cast it out and retrieve it at a moderate speed,
keeping the lure at a depth between the surface and five feet. It is a
popular technique because it is effective.

Flies

Flies are traditionally used with fly fishing equipment, but with the
addition of a clear bubble float, spinning gear will cast flies too.
Flies are very light lures that imitate insects in various stages of
their life cycle, or other natural prey such as baitfish, leeches,
hoppers or even mice and frogs. They are usually constructed of fur and
and feathers, though some patterns make use of new materials like foam
and rubber.

Presentation

Dry flies are intended to float on the surface of the water, to this
end they are dressed with some kind of floatant to aid in their
buoyancy. Wet flies, like nymphs and streamers are designed to be fished
below the surface of the water. Fly fishing is a difficult but
rewarding area of the fishing universe.

Now that you know the basic lures and how they are used, you should
have an easier time starting your own collection. Buy only a few at a
time, and take the time to learn to fish them. If you know anyone that
fishes the same water you do, ask them what kind of lures they like to
use and what they recommend.
The bait you use and the style of hook you use will determine how to set your hook properly. This article will talk about the most common ways to set your hook to catch your dream fish.

Snap-set:
The most popular way of setting your hook, it is ideal for single hook fishing. The best times to use the snap-set are when you are bobbing or jig fishing. To perform the snap-set, first drop your rod tip when you detect a strike. Reel up any slack on your line and quickly snap the rod upward.

Sweep-set:
When you are using multiple hooks or bait with a treble the sweep-set is ideal. Another time to use the sweep-set is when you are fishing with a slip-sinker or Carolina rig. The power is then used to lift the weight off the bottom and not transferred to the hook. To perform the sweep-set, when you feel a fish strikes your bait, sweep your rod away from the fish and keep and steady pressure on the line. Reel at a pace to keep any slack from forming.

Down-set:
The best time to use this set is when you are fishing topwater baits. It is similar to the sweep-set but the rod tip is pointed in a steep downward direction. Because the fish are near the top of the water, the downward motion allows you to get the most pressure on the fish and keep the rod in position. Keeping the rod in a downward position will prevent the fish from jumping after they are hooked.
Fly rod hook sets are treated much differently than any normal set. The only way to learn how to properly set is to practice with a fish on the far end of your fly line. To make a successful hook set, you should have razor-sharp hooks on your flies. If the hooks are too dull, you will have a poorer chance of penetrating the mouth of a fish.
Timing is the most important aspect when setting the hook with a fly rod. A general rule is to set the hook as quickly as possible, but there are exceptions to every rule. If your are fishing a surface fly in slack water, fish often feed more leisurely and need more time to suck in the fly. Be patient and wait until you feel the weight of the fish before setting the hook. Do not set the hook as soon as you see a fish snag your fly, you might lose the fish. An exception to that rule is when you are fishing for surface trout in slow moving water. Hesitate for about a second or two when you feel the trout suck in your fly. If you wait too long, they will spit it out and setting the hook too soon will pull the fly away from the trout.
Just because you have something on your line does not mean you should pull the fish and hook out with too much force. Setting the hook with too much zeal can break your tippets (monofilament leaders). Set the hook with a quick upward motion and you will get your fish and keep your tippets in tack.
If you are fishing with a lot of slack on your line or in an upstream presentation, strip in line with your line hand as soon as you set your hook. This will remove the slack on your line and will improve the chances for a good set.
Keep your line under the index finger of your rod hand as you set the hook. This puts you in a good position to plat the fish because you can usually bring your line in during the fight by stripping the line under your index finger. Larger fish will force you into a longer battle and may force you to use the fly reel. Always pay attention to when your fish strikes and how heavy it is to prevent losing a fish.
No matter where or how you fish, always keep in mind that if you do not pay attention to when your fish strikes, you could lose the best catch of your life. That does not mean you cannot have fun, just make sure you are paying attention to your line at all times.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

They are a very adaptable fish as well as a feisty eater. It takes a certain kind of fisher to be able to draw them out in any condition and this article will go over some of the best tips and tricks to become an excellent largemouth bass fisher.
Fishing for suspended bass

Finding suspended bass is easy catching them is a whole different matter. Often with a depth finder, you can find bass suspending far above bottom. Usually if bass are suspend in open waters at a depth of about 20 feet there is no point in trying to catch them because they are not actively feeding.
If a bass is suspended near some kind of cover they are a lot easier to catch. You can catch them fairly easily by jigging vertically along a sheer cliff or in flooded timber. Use a jigging spoon, vibrating blade or tailspin close to suspended timber and drop the lure into the water. Jig vertically and try to work the upper branches first. Drop the lure continuously until you reach bottom then retrieve it and continue the process.
You will often find bass suspending under schools of panfish in open water. Panfish will swim to a depth of five to 10 feet and bass will suspend several feet below them. Panfish will dimple the surface of the water when they feed on insects on a calm morning or evening. If you see a swirl of a bass grabbing a panfish, try to draw bass out with a topwater lure. Create a disturbance in the water by walking the lure across the surface and keep the lure moving while trying to cover as much distance as possible. You can also use the countdown method that is casting your lure and counting down as it sinks. Begin your retrieve at different intervals until you catch a bass. Once you know where the bass are you can use that countdown to wait until they strike.

Using a live bait dangling from a slip-bobber set up is also a good way to catch largemouth bass. The line will slip through the bobber as the bait sinks and will stop at a sliding knot positioned at the desired depth. Make sure to adjust the knot so the bait will hang right above the bass.
When fishing for suspended bass use a light line with a weight of about six to eight pounds. Light lines will subdue even the largest bass from cover when they are suspending in open waters.
Fishing for bass at night
Night fishing can cause a lot of problems: tangled line, snagged lures, the bass that got away. But the night is probably one of the best times to fish. Since the heavy traffic of water-skiers and other boaters is at a minimum, bass will come out of hiding in the deep to feed.
Bass will rarely move far from their daytime spots to reach nighttime feeding areas. Some of the best night spots are large shallow flats extending from shore, distinct points along shoreline breaks, and shallow mid-lake reefs. Place markers during the day to avoid spooking the bass at night. Once the sun goes down, sneak into position in the all ready marked spot.
The best time to fish at night is in the summer after a still, warm day that had clear skies. If the day was windy or overcast, the bass will have feed during the day and probably will not be back that night.
Some fishers will use dark lures that provide a lot of action, others will use plastic worms. Use a surface lure first to catch the active feeders since topwater lures are easily silhouetted against the light background at the surface. If this does not work, switch to deep-running lures and work a break that leads to deep water.
Use a slow steady retrieve at night because bass will use their lateral line more to home in on a potential meal. If you retrieve erratically, the fish may miss at biting your lure. The moon also has influences on night fishing. The best time to fish is two to three days before or after a full or new moon.
Fishing for bass in clear water
Oddly enough, fishing for bass in clear water is one of the toughest challenges bass fishers will face. In some bodies of water like strip pits, canyon reservoirs and natural lakes you will be able to see bass cruising along at 20 feet. And if you can see them, they can see you.
Since water will penetrate deeper in clear water finding bass quickly in clear water may prove to be more difficult than finding them in murky water. Because of the sun, bass will go deeper to escape the warmer temperatures and bright light. If the water is deep enough, bass will go to a depth of 100 feet or more to escape the sun and warm temperature but in murky waters they are confined to the shallows since the depths will lack oxygen.
If there is some kind of brush or other such cover, not all bass will go deep on sunny days in clear water. Docks, overhanging cliffs will also provide bass with the shade they need. Even though these bass are sticking to shallow water, it will not make them easier to catch. They will hang onto whatever obstruction is causing the shade so you must be extremely accurate with your casts.
When you are fishing on a sunny day on a clear lake, try to blend in as much as possible. Wear neutral colored clothing, keep a low profile and avoid moving suddenly or casting a shadow over the water. Even if bass are suspended by cover they are still easily spooked so you should be aware of where your shadow is.
The best time to try and catch bass in clear water is at dusk or dawn when there is a bit of wind or clouds. Most fishers will catch more bass on clear water during the night in the summer. Once the sun goes down, bass will move into shallower waters and out of cover in search of an easy meal.
Fast retrieves with a long cast work best in this situation. Use spinning tackle with a four to ten pound monofilament to increase your cast distance. Avoid fluorescent or gaudy colored lures that will easily be seen. Also avoid high visibility line.
If you can, avoid fishing in the clearest waters. Try to find murky water from inflowing streams or from waves washing against a shore line. The darker waters allow bass to escape from the sunlight and they will be feeding aggressively. Mud lines where the murky and clear water meet are one of the best places to look for bass.
Fishing for bass in low-clarity water
Murky water may seem like an ideal spot for fishing bass but sometimes murky water can mean trouble. Muddy runoff, heavy blooms of algae or plankton, rough fish that root up the bottom or the roiling actions of large waves will result in murky water. Many shallow fertile bodies of water will actually be turbid throughout the year.
Bass will be confined to the shallows in low-clarity water. Weed growth will usually end at about 12 feet and the water below 12 feet will lack the oxygen bass need. But these weeds and turbidity will make bass comfortable in low-clarity water at depths only about four to eight feet.
Surveys show that fishers will catch bass at a slower rate if the water is too turbid. Tie a white lure to your line and lower it into the water. Note the depth at which it disappears from view. This will help you check water clarity. If you can see the white lure at a depth of a foot or more, you will be able to catch bass.
Since very little light penetrates the waters bass will remain shallow all day so fish in the shallows. Target around obstructions but remember bass will stay further away from fallen trees, weeds and brush in low-clarity water. Use lures with a lot of flash that make noise and are relatively large. You can also add glitter or reflective tape to give your lure an extra shine.
Fishing for bass in fluctuating water
When avid bass fishers meet at the beginning of a fishing trip, their first question is: “What has the water been doing?” An excellent bass fisher will know that even a slight fluctuation in water levels will have a huge effect on where bass are.
Rainfall, whether it is a lot or a little, will cause water levels to fluctuate. During the summer, irrigation pipes will take huge quantities of water from rivers and reservoirs. In the fall flood-control reservoirs are drawn down to make room for the spring runoff. Dams may also brake water flow whether they are natural or man-made.
When water levels rise, fish go to shallow water. When water levels drop, they move to deeper water. Largemouth bass in shallow water are more effected by fluctuating water levels then any other bass in deep water. Rapid water level changes will effect how fish move through the water as well.
If the rain is heavy in a river bass will move to flooded vegetation near the shoreline. Willows are often where bass will hide. The best way to catch a bass in the willows is to flip a plastic worm or jig-and-eel as close to the bank as possible. Retrieve it through the branches of the willow. As long as the water is rising or is stable flooded brush will hold the most bass. Cast spinner baits into openings or parallel to the edge of the brush.
Any slight drop in water level and bass will go deep as fast as they can. This response is instinctual; bass want to avoid being trapped in isolated pools. In order to catch fish and be a successful fisher you will have to learn to move with the fish.
Water levels in lakes and reservoirs takes longer to change. Bass will go to shore as the water levels slowly rise though this may take several days. Fish will remain shallow as long as the water is stable or rising.
Fluctuating water levels can be a negative or a positive thing when fishing for bass. A rise will force inactive fish out of deeper waters to feed. Since the flooding shallows provide more food, bass formerly in deep water will feed heavily.
Bass will not bite well when the water level is dropping since they are being forced into deeper waters. But falling waters may cause bass to concentrate on holes and other areas where they may be easier to find. For example, bass may be scattered when the water is rising but as soon as it drops they could congregate in the channels.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

mepps fishing lures

Based out of Wisconsin, Mepps has been making some of the best artificial fishing lures avialable on the market for quite a long time. There is a Mepps lure for almost every specie of fish including trout, salmon, bass, panfish and walleye.

The Aglia model is the classic spinners used for stream and lake fishing for small, medium to large sized trout and other fish. Aglia spinners come equipped with the dressed treble or a plain treble hook or the brightly colored and flashy GLO Aglia.

Some of the most popular Mepps lures are the Aglia and Syclops models. Both come in a variety of colors and sizes to catch almost any type of fish species and conditions you can imagine.

The plain treble Aglia is a great spinner used for stream trout fishing small and medium sized fish... A small #1 sized lure in this model is popular forcatching smaller trout, panfish, crappie and perch while the larger size #4 and #5 are good for very big trout, bass, musky and salmon.

The dressed treble Aglia is like the plain model except it has a large piece of hackle concealing the hook and making the lure appear larger in size compared to the undressed model.

The Aglia Marabou looks like the classic spinner but comes equipped with a very large marabou tail dressing over the treble hook which makes the spinner appear life like in the water. Sizes #3 and #4 in this model are great for largemouth bass fishing.

The GLO Aglia spinner baits are similar to the regular models except they are painted with very bright white, yellow, blue and flouescent colors making for a high visibility lure in even the murkiest or cloudy water conditions.
How To Fish A Mepps Aglia

Aglia models come in a variety of sizes, however the classic models are most popular with trout fishermen. With a small size 0 (1/12 ounce weight) lure you can fish them by casting upstream reeling them in just fast enough to make the blade spin while guiding the lure past submerged objects and spots in the water where the fish like to hide out.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping
1

jig fishing lures

Accept the fact that something fluttering up and down stimulates the "strike" option in a game fish's brain more than something fluttering through the water parallel with the bottom. The fish thinks both types of erratic movement is that of wounded or crippled bait, but something fluttering up and down is more crippled and the easiest meal.

2

Use a long pole for jigging. If you are in deep water jigging straight up and down, the further you get the lure away from the boat's bottom silhouette, the less wary the fish are. If you are on a stationary pier, it doesn't matter. Make the up and down movement as erratic as possible by using the lightest possible weight, if any, to keep the jig going up and down.

3

Select a jig in the fishing section of your favorite store. If you are fishing on the Gulf Coast, you won't be able to jig straight up and down because the bays and surf are shallow. You want a jig that is weighted so that you can cast it a considerable distance. The jigging then becomes a series of "bounces" off the bottom or before the jig hits the bottom. Jigging off the bottom is a lot less work and will catch more flounders. A jig doesn't need to "flutter" as much as a jerk or swimbait, but it doesn't hurt.

4

Color is more important on a jig than many other types of lures because when it hits bottom the "thud" often attracts a fish. The fish must be able to differentiate the momentarily still lure from its environment. Pick very light colors and stay away from tan or beige.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

Most of them were amazing innovations in lure design when they were invented, and all of them have stood the test of time by catching countless fish for anglers every year. Every angler should have at least one of each of these in their tackle box.

Dardevle

The Dardevle is a lure that has come to be an icon of fishing in the North. This spoon was originally released in 1912 as the Osprey, but the name was changed to Dardevle in 1918. It is a versatile spoon that can be used for a variety of species, but is especially popular for northern pike.

Original Rapala
In the 1930's, Lauri Rapala was fishing from a row boat in Finland's Lake Paijanne when he observed that predator fish always attacked the baitfish that swam with a slightly off-center wobble compared to the rest of the school. He carved a lure that imitated this action, and caught ton of fish with it. This lure eventually became the Original Rapala, and can be found in almost every angler's tackle box.

Mepps Aglia

The Mepps Aglia is an inline spinner that has been around for a long time and has caught just every species under the sun. It's available in an array of colors and sizes that cover everything from tiny panfish to giant muskies. Its ease of use and effectiveness has made it a staple lure for many anglers.

Hula Popper

First introduce over 60 years ago, the Abrogast Hula Popper is a staple in every bass angler's tackle box. This simple yet effective lure is gently tugged on the surface of the water, creating a popping sound. It can be one of the most exciting lures to use, as anglers wait in anticipation of a big bass breaking the surface to engulf the lure.

Senko
The Senko is essentially a tailless soft plastic worm, but has quickly become one of the most popular baits for a variety of species. It is very simple to use, and often the less you do the better the better the results. This is one bait that catches tons of fish for everyone from beginners to pros.

Flatfish
This lure has a simple appearance, but is deadly in the water. It has been around for over 50 years, and is now available in a wide assortment of colors and sizes. It has an enticing wobble that has seduced countless trout and salmon.

Jitterbug

The unique metal plate on the front of the Jitterbug causes it to wobble and leave a trail of bubbles as it is retrieved along the surface. The gentle pops and splashes call the fish up of the depths, and the steady retrieve gives them an easy target to track. This lure is especially good in the late evening just before and just after the sun sets.

Heddon Torpedo

Heddon's Toprdeo is an old classic that has fooled many fish since its introduction in the 1920's. There have been many different versions and sizes of the lure, but all feature at least one spinning propeller. This churns the water and is like music to an angler's ears because fish can't resist it.

Mister Twister Curly Tail

The original soft plastic grub was the Mister Twister Curly Tail, released in 1973. It features a flat hooked tail that wiggles like it's alive when jigged. The Curly Tail is one of the best multi-species lures ever created, and it can be used to catch almost anything that swims.

Creme Wiggle Worm
The original soft plastic work was released in 1949 by Creme Lure Company. Today, there are hundreds of soft plastic worms on the market in every color under the sun. However, they all owe their existence to the original Creme Wiggle Worm.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

Fishing Lures Tackle

Fishing Lures Tackle, Tuna fishing lures throughout the world vary according to species, weight of tuna and method of tuna fishing. Our specially chosen tuna lures in our tuna fishing tackle shop were selected to give sports anglers the best chance at hooking and landing yellowfin tuna, albacore tuna, bigeye tuna & bigeye tuna.

Jigging for albacore tuna in Mexico, California, Oregon or Washington has become a favorite fishery among tuna anglers from across the country. During summer and fall months albacore tuna migrate with warm waters to within striking range of sport boats and charter boats along the West Coast. While some anglers love using live bait for albacore tuna, live bait is not always available or practical. Oregon and Washington tuna anglers have learned how to catch plenty of albacore tuna with tuna jigs purchased at our Tuna Tackle online store.

Tuna jigs are one of the most productive tuna lures to catch all varieties of tuna as well as any other sport fish in the area you are tuna fishing. At Tuna Fishing Lures we have selected the very best tuna jigs from Point Wilson Dart company, Stinger Jigs, Deep Stinger and Dungeness Stinger. We also like using squids, especially for trolling. Our FAT Squid works especially well for tuna while fishing for tuna at night. The FAT Squid has a battery-operated LED light stick that fits inside and lights the tuna squid lure from the inside out, making the FAT Squid a favorite lure of tuna at night.

Big albacore tuna sit below the major school of tuna, making Pt. Wilson Dart jigs and Stinger jigs the perfect albacore tuna lure choice. When a school of albacore tuna is near the boat lower an Anchovy, glow/chrome Pt. Wilson Dart jig to 100 feet and then jig it rapidly back to the surface. This tuna jigging method drives albacore tuna crazy.

When tuna hit your jig it's like hooking the bumper of a car traveling in the opposite direction. The tuna's hard hit on the jig is why tuna anglers love using jigs. And with jigs you don't have to worry about your bait dying or the time it takes to get a fresh bait.

Yellowfin tuna also love hitting jigs from our Tuna Tackle store. The same method mentioned above works for yellowfin tuna. Casting your jig as far away from the boat, toward "breezers" will also draw quick strikes from yellowfin and albacore tuna. After casting the jig as far as possible toward the tuna, let the jig drop in the water column for approximately 15 seconds and then begin a fast retrieve, toward the boat. You can also vary your retrieve by stopping every few seconds to allow the jig to sink.

Z2 Super Squid & FAT Squid tuna lures can also be used along side anglers using fresh bait or jigs. These tuna lures will attract the largest tuna in the school. When fishing these tuna squid lures from a drifting boat, use an inline torpedo lead weight two to three feet above the squid, cast it away from the boat and let it sink for three minutes then retrieve toward the boat. Big tuna will often hit the squid lure on the drop so be ready to strike if the line suddenly goes limp. Tuna will also viciously hit the squid as it is retrieved toward the surface.

Enjoy shopping at Tuna Fishing Lures online store and don't forget to purchase several colors for those days when tuna decide to be finicky for just one color. Better to have the color they want than go home wishing you had brought a better selection of colors for your tuna lures.

Sea Fishing Lures

Sea Fishing Lures, When purchasing lures for use in big game fishing, there are two details that most anglers pay the most attention to. These details they hold in such high regard are cost and color.

However, while many anglers insist that color is an important factor, it actually is not. There are a few other details that must be taken into account first.

In fact, even cost should not come into play as much as you might think. What is more important than both the cost and the color of large game and deep sea fishing lures is balance, weight and craftsmanship. All three of these factors can quickly and easily be observed immediately within the tackle or bait shop.

If the lure you are considering looks to be cheaply made with little attention to detail, then chances are that it will not perform as it should. When it comes to prices and lures, you will certainly get what you pay for.

The balance and weight of the lure is important as well. Be sure that you note whether or not any weight was added to the lure by the manufacturer. If you purchase a lure without any added weight to it, it is likely that it will have difficulties with diving in any other fishing conditions that might be less than ideal.

As you can see, the choice in leader, shape, rigging and speed all have an important affect on how your lure will perform for you. Always be sure that your leader is not so stiff that it hinders the action of your deep sea lure.

If the lure is properly weighted and balanced, it will look more realistic to the fish, as the eyes will appear as if they are in the correct place at all times. In addition to realistic appearance, having the hooks in the correct position according to what side of the boat you are using them on will also help your chances of catching your fish.

At the same time, it is not necessary to use hooks that are heavy enough to weigh the lure down. If the movement of your lure does not appear convincing in the water, the fish will notice, and you will have no bites.

Always choose a lure that is designed and constructed with balance, weight and careful attention to detail as well as materials. The color is not an issue. As long as you have a quality piece of fishing gear, you will be catching your fish.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

salmon fishing lures

Salmon Fishing Lures, I have used Flashtrap Spinners for years both professionally and personally. I have fished them from the lakes and streams of the Mat-Su Valley to the Sub-Arctic rivers around Nome. I have found them to be effective on everything from kings and silvers to pike and grayling. The choice of single or treble hook coupled with the wide assortment of color combinations and sizes make them a prime choice for everyone's tackle box. -- Bruce Knowles, Big Fisherman Charters, 1997 Alaska Sports Fisherman of the Year.

Here's a slip bobber technique that has proven extremely successful for our guide service when fishing Alaska rivers for king and silver salmon. For best results we anchor a boat above a long straight run of consistent depth water. Next we rig and adjust slip bobbers so they suspend salmon eggs (roe) inches above the river bottom. In slower and shallower water salmon eggs can be fished without weight, while in deeper or quicker runs a few split shot helps keep the bait near bottom. After positioning the boat and adjusting our bobber rigs we simply drop the floats and bait behind the boat and let the current drift them through the run. It is important to keep the bobber drifting freely with the current, while fishing, because if the reel is engaged the bobber drags, and current will kick the bait up, near the surface, and away from the primary salmon catching zone.

Advantages for fishing slip bobbers and bait straight behind the boat are: #1. You can fish a large amount of water quickly and thoroughly in a short amount of time, and #2. You will experience little slack line bellying in the current unless your bobber stops. When a salmon starts eating your salmon eggs and the bobber begins dancing on the surface, you should hook more salmon if you wait until the fish pulls the bobber completely underwater, before setting your hooks. In fact, even allowing a little slack line to drift downstream of the bobber before setting the hooks may be the best technique, as the downstream belly formed in the line pulls hooks back into the corner of a salmon's mouth as it faces upriver mooching your bait. While waiting a few moments after your bobber disappears before setting hooks often produces more hookups, if your bobber suddenly jerks underwater or torpedoes sideways across the water's surface, set the hooks immediately! Your salmon has felt a hook, and is running around trying to get rid of it.

We prefer fishing large brightly-colored bobbers, like a size 5 or 6 ESB, because they will float a lunker-sized gob of salmon eggs, along with a double hook rig, and a couple split shot, while riding high enough in the water to be visible a considerable distance behind the boat. How far do we let bobbers drift? On a long straight run we may release more than 100 yards of line from the reels while fishing. In fact, we've hooked several salmon at the very end of our lines, and partially because monofilament and even super braided lines stretch , we've never broken a line in this situation. However, when fishing baits under floats to the end of your lines, it is good idea to bring an extra fishing outfit or spare spool of line just in case.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

fishing lure parts

Fishing Lure Parts, There are a variety of fishing lures made from metals and plastics that contain a range of fishing lure parts. If you'd like to know what your fishing lure is made of, here's a list of lure types and the fishing lure parts that comprise them.

Spoons - these lures are thin rounded pieces of metal without a handle. They flash brightly in the water to imitate a fleeing or distressed baitfish. Spinners - There are many fishing lure parts to the spinner, from the base or the eye which is a thin wire shaft with a loop in the front, where the fishing line is tied; a large loop at the rear holds the hook. Some spinners use a skirt of squirrel tail hair. The shaft features a body of colored beads, small rings and metal cylinders to provide weight and attraction. Above the body is a clevis with a wire passing through it, with the spinner blade, shaped like a spoon attached via a hole in the clevis.

Swimbaits

The Walking Worm has constant curling
action that drives the fish crazy.

Plugs - Lures made from hard plastic or wood fishing lure parts and imitate bait fish. Topwater plugs float on the water while float diver plugs dive beneath the surface when retrieved. They are minnow shaped and feature a metal or plastic scoop shaped lip that protrudes from the bottom front of the lure. Crankbaits are plugs that have large lips that allow them to dive deep.

Spinnerbaits and buzzbaits - spinnerbait is a wire with a loop in the middle and arms bent into a V shape with a spinner blade at the end of the top arm. Buzzbaits have a propeller device on the upper arm instead of a spinner blade which rotates very quickly when retrieved.

Jigs - a hook with a ball of lead between the eyes that comes in many shapes and sizes to be fished on the bottom.

Plastic lures - made to imitate all kinds of fish, available pre rigged or plain. Plastic lures are the most popular today and one of the most successful is the Walking Worm from www.NGCSports.com. The company renowned for its scientifically designed lures scores big with the Walking Worm with its patented, multi-flex construction that traps air between tail segments, causing the lure to move in the water like a live worm. The Walking Worms beats other worm lures that remain stationery in the water. By curling naturally, the Walking Worm attracts bass and other hungry gamefish.
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

Deep Sea Fishing Lures

Deep Sea Fishing Lures, Fishing lures come in an infinite variety of styles and models--almost as many as there are fish in the sea. Selecting the right one for a deep sea fishing trip can be confusing, especially if you haven't had much experience. However, you can train yourself to pick the right fishing lures for the job every time.

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

1

Study the types of fish you want to catch and see what attracts them. Different fish eat different things and thus are attracted to different types of bait. Almost all lures are designed to mimic the fish's desired food, so find the ones that most closely match that of the fish you intend to catch.

2

Learn about other aspects of the deep sea fish's feeding habits, such as what depths they frequent and how they track their prey. Some fish use sight to follow their bait, requiring a brightly colored or otherwise noticeable lure. Others might depend on smell or other factors, which your lures must imitate.
3

Examine the different types of lures that are available and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Jigs, for example, imitate a jerky, erratic motion, while spinnerbaits can be pulled through the water to resemble a smaller fish's swimming motion. Knowing how each one operates will help you select the type that works best for your particular catch.
4

Learn how lures are tied to lines and the way in which they play off of each other. Lines are particularly important in deep sea fishing, where they can extend far longer and endure far greater stresses than lines for surface fishing.
5

Practice specific techniques that might be required for the lures you want to use. Each fisherman has his own way of doing things and some methods of fishing will fit with your character more readily than others. Furthermore, certain fish respond to different techniques--some are attracted to trolling lures, while others respond to soft jerks and wriggles. Learn which lures work best for your particular technique and select the ones that are right for you.

weedless fishing lures

Weedless Fishing Lures, The second weedless lure what i want to introduce to you is weedless frog lure Spro frog lure.It is not a crankbait like minnow spoon. It has two hooks on back.It is one of my favorite lures, it is the most interesting lure, you just enjoy when you see little wave moving towards the lure and the the fish gets the bait, i recommend before the fish gets the lure and before you hook, take a deep breath. This fishing bait is made of quality rubber, if pike gets this lure you will see teeth marks on your lure, but it wont change how the lure plays.Did i mention that this is topwater, but you can make this lure go deep also. You can make this by squeezing the lure and the holding it under water, it will suck the water in and then you can cast and it will go underwater.

One of them is Rapala fishing lure, it is not on sell in amazon, because it was assembled in Finland and they stopped producing it year ago..
What makes this lure special is that it has a very weird game , probably the weirdest game you ever seen, but it is very effective if there is a lot of weed in lake.It has only 1 hooks, so lot of fishes will just go away.My largest fish with this lure is 13 pounds(6.1kg) pike.I wouldn't say that i have got lot of big pikes with this lure, but i can say that this lure is more of bass fishing lure.I haven't caught any trout´s with it.But i must say that RapalaMinnow Spoon is one of the best weedless lures,
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping

Fishing Lure Making Supplies

Fishing Lure Making Supplies, Creating your own fishing lures can be a fun and rewarding hobby. The basic premise is simple: create something that a fish would want to eat and put a hook on it. But the materials that can be used in DIY lure-making are as diverse as the fish in the sea.

Natural Materials

If you've ever read the back of a Rapala fishing lure box, you know the story. The first Rapalas were hand-whittled by a fisherman so that he could troll with a hand line while waiting for his nets to fill. While it's a good story, wood is actually one of the more difficult natural materials to work with when making your own fishing lures.

You need to be a skilled woodcarver to make an attractive wooden lure. And even if you carve a great, lifelike wooden minnow, wood's buoyancy makes fishing at any significant depth with a wood lure difficult. Furthermore, wood lures will rot after a season or two unless they're expertly sealed and painted.

Deer antlers are about as easy to work with as wood in terms of cutting the material and being able to affix hooks and eyelets. Although they're somewhat harder than wood when it comes to making detailed carvings, antlers are a good material for fishing lures because they're less buoyant and more naturally water-resistant. They also add a rustic "outdoorsy" look to your tackle kit.

Other natural materials like fur and feathers can be used to good effect to dress up a lure. Where a store-bought lure might use a plastic or rubber-like skirt on a jigging lure, you can opt for the organic look of a tuft of deer fur or a brightly-colored feather. In general, any natural item you might find in a fly-tying kit can also be incorporated into lures for casting and trolling purposes.

Synthetic Materials

If you want to stray from natural components, you can once again turn to a fly-tying kit. Synthetic furs and feathers can be used to good effect on lures. Regular spinners, jigheads and skirts from your local sporting goods retailer can also be the basis for homemade lures. However, if you put a rubber skirt on a pre-painted jighead and clip on a spinner, you're really not making your own lure at all anymore--you're simply putting together a few store-bought components.

Craft stores are also great for finding unique fishing lure components--beads, colored string, small decorative items and googly eyes all have their potential uses in making lures.

Hardware

Most of the hardware for your lure can be found in your favorite sporting goods store. Treble hooks and swivels are must-haves. The best weighting mechanisms can also be found in the fishing section in the form of split-shot sinkers (be careful if working with lead sinkers.)

Small eyelets for connecting your line can be found in a hardware store or specialty lure-making supply store.

Finishing Touches

You may think the obvious final step is to paint your lure. However, it's often easier and better-looking to make your lure out of materials that are the colors you want in the first place. Many paints don't hold up well in water. If you do feel the need to use a paint or coating, look to a hobby or hardware store for waterproof paints and clear coats. Nail polish is also an option. If you use any chemicals or coating on your lure, give it at least 48 hours to dry before you try it out, otherwise you risk polluting whatever body of water you're fishing in.

Whether you use natural or synthetic materials, the most important elements used to create your own fishing lures will be creativity and a clear sense of what you're going to use the lure for (what type of fish or what depth.)
http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/ping
