It takes many years of study filled with intense coursework and plenty of hands-on supervised training to become a chiropractor, so the thought of continuing to take classes isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for most practicing chiropractors. Still, there are few better things you can do for your practice and your patients than to continuously work at learning more and more practical skills. Here are some of the more popular skills someone can pick up in their chiropractic continuing education.

Aromatherapy, which is a form of therapy focused on using essential oils that aid and assist in stress reduction, relaxation and healing. You’ll learn about a wide variety of essential oils and their characteristics, how to use and handle each oil, how these oils work with people on emotional and physical levels, how to identify what oil you should use for what conditions, and how the olfactory system relates to all other major and minor bodily systems.

Hand Therapy, a form of therapy devoted to identifying and working with different conditions that deeply affect hand functioning. You’ll learn to identify and work with conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Arthritis.

Massage therapy, which makes a natural avenue to pursue in your chiropractic continuing education. There are many different methods involved in massage therapy, but they all revolve around using different types of pressure and strokes with your hand to relieve muscular strain and impediments. It is extremely hands on, much like chiropractic practice, but focuses on the whole body’s muscular systems, and some forms (like acupressure) are concerned with concepts like the body’s invisible energy channels.

Because there are so many different methods and disciplines to learn, pursuing online continuing education is a great idea. Learning from online courses will give you a convenient and cost-effective way to dive deeply into many different methods that might be totally foreign to you, but still seem interesting or like they may help your practice and your patients.

That’s what chiropractic continuing education is all about- learning more so that you can better serve your patients. Even picking up one or two auxiliary methods, like aromatherapy, can add a truly unique feel and effect to your practice. Anything you can learn that can be added to your standard chiropractic training is a good thing, as it will add flexibility and a greater range to your healing understanding, allowing you to further develop your own personal system for promoting and creating great health in your patients.

Then there are many of us, who tend to prefer to only learn as much as we need to accomplish the task at hand. This feeling of learning ‘enough’ is understandable, especially when it’s applied to a really long and intensive period of learning – like the kind you undergo to become a chiropractor. Yet, if you want to be a truly effective chiropractor who is able to heal his or her patient’s as fully as possible, it’s a good idea to selectively cultivate the desire and ability to pursue chiropractic continuing education.

So, what exactly is chiropractic continuing education? Basically it’s making the dedicated effort to continue to learn about your craft, and about complimentary skills and practices that can aid your ability to help and heal your clients. It’s that simple, and it really can be done at your convenience.

While some people prefer to stay in school indefinitely, for most people this just isn’t feasible. Whether it’s the demands of work, finances or family, there’s a good chance that you can’t just duck away to a school for a few weeks to a couple years each time you want to add to your skill set. This is where online continuing education can really come into play.

So why online continuing education? What are the benefits it has over traditional education?

Online continuing education is a lot more affordable. Chances are you aren’t keen to add to your current heap of medical school bills and loans, and continuing your development online is a great way to learn without the same expense. Online courses have a lot less overhead than traditional courses, and thus can be run for a much lower cost.

You won’t be tied to a set class or course schedule. This is really important for people who already have full and busy lives and aren’t able to accommodate a traditional school’s rigid schedules.

You can keep working as you learn. Because you can go through the course and complete whenever you want, you can easily study and learn and take tests around your already set work schedule.

Overall, learning online is probably the best method for most people who decide to pursue their chiropractic continuing education- especially if you are someone who isn’t naturally inclined to the pursuit, who needs it to be as simple and convenient as possible.

Chiropractic continuing education is one of the most essential elements for success as an allied health care professional. After completion of your basic qualifications, the further development and consolidation of your skills and expertise is enhanced with specialized training.

Courses of study can be completed online or offline, depending upon your preferences – and may assist in consolidation of skills, upgrading, extending or revising your professional training. Continuing professional development or CPD provides an opportunity to receive certification for skills developed in the workplace. With numerous versatile training options available, you can select one that will fit in with the demands of your career.

How will continuing chiropractic education be of benefit?

Healthcare is a field that is subject to constant change. When new research comes to light, new discoveries are made or new techniques are found to be more beneficial it is essential for healthcare professionals to be responsive. As a chiropractor, you need to be up to date with the changes that impact upon your particular area of expertise.

Through chiropractic continuing education you could access information in any of the following areas:

You’ll have an opportunity to stay abreast of key issues in allied health

You’ll find out what new techniques are being developed and researched

You’ll gain further understanding of the place of chiropractic medicine alongside other health services

You’ll be able to learn specific new techniques that you may wish to use in your practice

You’ll have options to study professional support skills such as managing small business and so on

Undertaking professional development is an opportunity to keep up to date in what is happening in your industry, supporting your career and benefiting you as a professional chiropractor.

Continuing education in the offline environment

Offline learning can be a class based course, it could be a seminar or workshop, or may be run via distance education. By attending the course or workshop, you’ll receive training to cover the key points of the topic being taught. At the end of the session you’ll have an opportunity to get feedback, ask questions and improve your knowledge of the subject area covered.

Professional development via online study

For those who are pressed for time or simply cannot attend the location where the offline course is to be held, then online study is a great alternative. The internet allows for multi-media presentation of information, so you’ll be able to see a video demonstrating the techniques, post questions, interact with other professionals and gain a high level of skill – all at your own pace and at a time that suits you.

The beauty of online study is that you can be involved in informative webinars, e-courses and complete online training modules which cover the area of interest in depth, without the need to rearrange your busy schedule to attend the sessions.

Through professional development, you’ll enhance your expertise as an allied health professional, helping to develop your career in your field. With the many powerful online study options available, it is possible to achieve this nowadays with a greater degree of flexibility than ever before.

Online chiropractic continuing education delivers training, certification and skill enhancement that you can complete at your own pace – in a time and place that won’t take you away from your other important commitments.

The course provides 8 hours of continuing education and is broken down into 5 core modules:

Taking a Pain History

Pain and Opiods

Inflammation: Steroids, NSAIDs, and Paracetamol

Neurogenic Pain

Assessing Pain Interventions

Each module is based around a screencast video of Professor Bogduk taking you through each of these topics as only he can. His presentations are visual, entertaining, easy to follow and highly educational.

The 5 core modules are supplemented with presentations by Nic Lucas and Rob Moran in which they discuss the main points of each topic and how they might be applied to clinical practice.

This course can be taken at your own convenience – as long as you complete it within the next 12 months. If you need continuing education points quickly then you can do the whole course straight away. If you’d prefer to wait and do the course in a new continuing education cycle, then you are able to do that as well.

We are committed to providing you with high quality, comprehensive continuing education courses from international experts. Often you would have to spend thousands to attend one of their live training events – not to mention the travel involved; however our expertise in turning live education into online education means we can get access to these people for you and bring them right into your computer.
