La scelta dei musicisti è da sempre un fattore cruciale per il successo delle musiche di Zorn: sono i musicisti impiegati che determinano il suono che prenderanno le musiche da lui composte o riarrangiate.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;In ciascuna performance, che si tratti di suonare blocchi di noise cacofonico, libere improvvisazioni, temi di film dell’orrore, bucoliche melodie popolari giapponesi, linee di jazz bebop, richiami per anatra o chitarre di metallo che ruggiscono a tutto hardcore. Nel libretto che accompagna il cd c’è una frase: “The effect is like watching a chameleon race through a paint box.”, meravigliosa. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;i&gt;"That style of improvisation is a true American hybrid music, like rock was a hybrid music," dice lo stesso Zorn nel libretto della prima edizione del cd. "No generation of composers has been exposed to as much different music as we have, thanks to the technology of recording and the resulting boom in the quantity of music available."&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;La musica di Zorn può essere etichettata come “citazionista”, lui stesso è un grande collezionista di dischi (in un intervista risalente ai tempi di Spillane parlava di possedere circa 14.000 dischi di vinile e esistono numerose foto che lo ritraggono sullo sfondo di pareti coperte da dischi) e sicuramente il suo particolare stile riflette questo immensa quantità di ascolti: &lt;i&gt;"Twenty or thirty years ago you had to bend over backward to find a record from Bali,today, media's gone nuts. We're just trying to incorporate all these different elements that are available to us."&lt;/i&gt; &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Da qui la necessità di un gruppo di musicisti perfettamente coeso e in grado di interpretare al meglio le notazioni di Zorn, tutti presentano fondamentalmente le medesime caratteristiche: eccellenti capacità tecniche, una dedizione totale per la musica, una “naturale” predisposizione per l’improvvisazione, marcata personalità artistica, eccellente capacità di lavorare in gruppo, un approccio non convenzionale agli strumenti tradizionali.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;L’effetto è quello di poter aggiungere nuovi colori alla già estesa tavolozza a disposizioni di Zorn. In quell’occasione poi Zorn incassò anche i “dividendi” maturati con i lavori dedicati a Weill e a Monk: la possibilità di avere a disposizione uno studio di registrazione di prim’ordine in cui poter sperimentare a piacere: &lt;i&gt;"I got to spend time in a good studio, and it was a pleasure, that process of getting everything so perfect, being able to overdub even in the improvisation, we could layer the sound." &lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Questo gli permise anche di poter sfruttare al meglio le già notevoli capacità dei musicisti coinvolti: &lt;i&gt;"I realized, here were all these incredible musicians I'd been working with, and I'd been using onetenth of their capabilities by restricting the music to whatever was happening in that one hour the tape was rolling." &lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Il cast dei musicisti coinvolti per The Big Gundown è semplicemente impressionante e rappresentava all’epoca (e anche oggi) il meglio dell’ala più avventurosa della nutrita comunità musicale di New York:&lt;i&gt;"I wanted each track to be very different and one of the  things that made that possible was the people that play on the record,".&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Molti di loro collaboravano con Zorn già da diversi anni e a loro volta erano compositori e band leader: la violinista Polly Bradfield, il batterista Mark Miller e il tastierista Wayne Horvitz probabilmente potevano vantare la maggiore “anzianità di servizio”, ma anche gli altri tra cui Anthony Coleman [tastiere], Christian Marclay [giradischi], Carol Emanuel [arpa], Bobby Previte [batteria], David Weinstein [tastiere], Bob James [nastri magnetici], Michihiro Sato [Tsugaru shamisen], Guy Klucevsek [fisarmonica], Jim Staley [trombone], Luli Shioi [voce], and Vicki Bodner [oboe] avevano già lavorato con lui.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Una delle caratteristiche della musica di Morricone era l’uso particolare della chitarra elettrica nelle colonne sonore per gli spaghetti western degli anni ’60. The Big Gundown schiera sei tra i più quotati chitarristi d’avanguardia: Bill Frisell, Fred Frith, Jody Harris, Arto Lindsay, Robert Quine, e Vernon Reid. Memorabili le loro interpretazioni nei remake di "Milano Odea," "Once Upon a Time in the West," e "Metamorfosi" conferendo una dose di drammaticità e di sana nevrosi newyorkese alle già “cariche” musiche del maestro italiano. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Gli altri musicisti sono il batterista Anton Fier dei Golden Palominos; la cantante Diamanda Galas; Ned Rothenberg [ocarina, shakuhachi and Jew's harp]; Shelley Hirsch [voce]; Melvin Gibbs [basso elettrico]; Tim Berne [sassofono] e l’ensemble di batucada brasiliano presente nella title track. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Stupisce, ma si rivela perfettamente azzeccata come scelta, la presenza del leggendario tastierista proveniente dalla Blue Note Big John Patton che suona il suo organo hammond in "Erotico," e la sublime armonica a bocca di Toots Thielmans che “recita” un cammeo in "Poverty," dalla colonna sonora di C’era una Volta in America.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;La ristampa per l’anniversario dei quindici anni è stata poi impreziosita di ben sei tracce in più, tra cui vale la pena di citare una stupenda versione di "The Sicilian Clan", meno sconvolgente ma non meno affascinante di quella che comparirà sul mitico Naked City qualche anno più tardi.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Zorn distrugge, ricostruisce, ci mette dentro di tutto, musica sperimentale, classica, bebop, folk giapponese, rock, country, jazz, creando come al suo solito una musica che ha la propria forza nella massima libertà d'espressione, priva d'ogni limite ed etichetta, una musica dove non ci sono né vincitori, né vinti ma soltanto "Suono" creato dalla più pura disciplina artistica, madre dell'improvvisazione. Un disco eccezionale, imprescindibile per chiunque voglia accostarsi alla musica di Zorn, mi permetto di chiudere con il commento (scritto) di Morricone, una simile dichiarazione vale più di mille recensioni o saggi sull’argomento.&lt;/div&gt; &lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;i&gt;"This is a record that has fresh, good and intelligent ideas. It is a realization on a high level, a work done by a maestro with great science-fantasy and creativity. At limes my works have been varied from but it doesn't change anything because the pieces are still recognizable. My ideas have been realized not in a passive manner, but in an active manner which has recreated and re-invented what I have done previously for films. Many people have done versions of my pieces, but no one has done them like this. La compositrice parlerà della sua musica, e delle sue esperienze. Nell’occasione l’ensemble Elettrofoscari eseguirà due sue composizioni.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pauline Oliveros è una delle figure carismatiche della musica contemporanea, è stata una delle protagoniste dalla straordinaria stagione musicale californiana degli anni 60, insieme a Terry Riley, Morton Subotnick, Ramon Sender. Da molti anni Oliveros è impegnata nello sviluppo di quello che chiama ‘ascolto profondo’, una pratica musicale fondata da una parte sull’improvvisazione, e dall’altra sull’esplorazione delle pieghe più nascoste delle esperienze sonore quotidiane. Poi le insistenze del produttore Yale Evelev, la fiducia conquistata e meritata con le rielaborazioni dei brani di Monk prima e di Kurt Weill dopo, l’ammirazione csconfinata che il newyorkese da sempre ha avuto nei confronti di Morricone e il pieno sostegno da parte della casa discografica gli fecero dire finalmente sì.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;L’opinione del produttore fu semplicemente determinante: &lt;i&gt;"John's own stuff was so free that there was no chance he was going to put all his people together and have them stay within the originals. He would be a catalyst to change things." &lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Per Zorn la sfida era troppo allettante per lasciar perdere: finalmente gli si dava la possibilità di uscire dalla ristretta cerchia di adoratori della musica underground potendo contare da un lato sul pieno appoggio della casa discografica, dall’altro di un nome di sicuro richiamo come quello di Morricone e infine la piena possibilità di scegliere i musicisti con cui creare le musiche. In pratica il pieno controllo sull’intero progetto e la completa libertà d’azione.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Gli arrangiamenti astuti e coraggiosi di John Zorn agiscono su queste colonne sonore col chiaro intento di rompere e aprire le loro strutture. Zorn non si limita a fornire degli abbellimenti alle musiche originali, ma piuttosto ingaggia un combattimento, una interazione al limite del nevrotico con le musiche di Morricone qualche volta con toni allegri e scherzosi, qualche volta con toni indagatori e scettici. La parodia musicale è una delle caratteristiche della musica di Zorn di quei periodi (anni ’80), ma qui si va oltre, la sua musica si incrocia con il tema del telefilm Rawhide per portarsi verso il grande macello. Zorn zoomma sui suggerimenti di Burt Bacharach della colonna sonora di Giù la Testa e sordidamente soppianta il gentile, "Sean, Sean... Sean, Sean" con un ritornello “shoop shoop” più effervescente. Se "Milano Odea" di Morricone ondeggia quasi meccanicamente, Zorn ne smantella attentamente il meccanismo e lo ridisegna in modo tale che le singole parti non siano correttamente saldate assieme. In "Giu la Testa" lo shakuhachi giapponese e lo Tsugani shamisen sottolineano lo Yojimbo di Kurosawa come una sorta di ur-text alla base del cinema di Leone; mentre la “americana” armonica a bocca di “C’era una volta in America” stride con la più “italiana” fisarmonica.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Spesso Zorn intensifica l’aggressività già espressa da Morricone nelle sue composizioni. Nella versione originale di "Metamorfosi" (da La Classe operaia Va in Paradiso) rauche strida e strilli acuti, a suggerire l’interno gotico di una fabbrica o di un macello, si avvicendano a musica da camera imbronciata e a lamenti spettrali, come tessere di una oscura sinfonia, seguendo un metodo di composizione che Zorn approfondirà con Spillane (vedi articoli sul Blog). L'adattamento di Zorn è oltre ogni modo abrasivo, con ritmi malaugurati e gemiti di morte orripilanti; come se i lavoratori si fossero risvegliati all’inferno. Per la "Battaglia di Algeri" invece Zorn raddoppia la ritmica marziale di Morricone e mina il suo tema eroico con scoppi angosciati di rumore orchestrato e grida, fischi, cariche di cavalleria. Nella colonna sonora di Peur sur la Ville di Henri Verneuil (il film è la storia di uno psicopatico che chiama le donne al telefono e poi le strozza), una melodia inizialmente ariosa e dolce viene gradualmente ostruita da sequenze di dissonanti e da gorgoglii contorti, come quelli che produce un’orchestra mentre si accorda prima di un concerto. Quello che Morricone sviluppa orizzontalmente, Zorn traduce in pratica accatastando sulle sue chitarre maniacalmente compresse, sassofoni e voci in una stretta di metallo pesante.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Grappoli stupefacenti di suoni galvanizzano anche la suite ambiziosa che Morricone ha composto per The Big Gundown di Sergio Collima, da Zorn tradotta corentemente nei propri idiomi. L'inspirazione per questo pezzo arriva da un sogno. Zorn inizialmente pensava a una versione in salsa brasiliana con un strato di surf guitars per aggiungere un po’ di sapore. Prima di registrare, però Zorn ebbe il suo primo sogno della sua vita che era musica pura. Si svegliò nel cuore della notte e scrisse la musica che lui aveva appena sentito, e non solo divenne l'introduzione al brano ma all’intero disco: un ensemble batucada brasiliano si scatena in modo decisamente non ortodosso massacrando frasi prese da dal Fur Elise di Beethoven con aggiunta di rumori chitarristici pepati. Il risultato non è soltanto un “indurimento”  rispetto alla versione originale, ma un ulteriore aumento del senso di frustrazione e minaccia già espresse dal tema principale, che viene ridotto in frammenti spasmodici e quasi disperati.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Trova spazio in questo disco anche una composizione originale del sassofonista newyorkese che amplifica la carica sperimentale espressa nei brani del maestro romano e che è un indizio sicuro dell’impegno da lui versato in questo progetto, si tratta di "Tre Nel 5000", sua composizione originale che in un certo senso “vaporizza” le idee e gli stili di Morricone per creare un brano che cita tutto e niente, con continui rimandi che continuano a sfuggire all’ascoltatore, Zorn  trascende&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Morricone Zorn capisce che non c'è niente di innovativo nel riproporre pedissequamente le idee avantgarde di un'altra generazione e quindi preferisce piuttosto attingere alla vitalità della musica di Morricone mettendola al centro di ogni performance. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;iframe Ha raccontato a più di un intervistatore quanto fosse "snervante" sedere vicino a Morricone mentre lavoravano assieme alla stesura della colonna sonora: “&lt;i&gt;sembrava che lui ridesse di tutto, mentre ruggiva e ridacchiava mentre sullo schermo proiettavamo scontri a fuoco, scene di amore, e cambi di scena”&lt;/i&gt; afferma nel libretto che accompagna il cd.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Le musiche risplendenti di Morricone suonano e funzionano diversamente da qualunque musica cinematografica precedente. Come per il lavoro di Bernardo Herrmann per Orson Welles ed Alfred Hitchcock, di Nino Rota per i film di Fellini, o John Barry per i film di James Bond, le composizioni di Morricone scritte per Leone segnavano una delle collaborazioni più intense tra compositore e direttore che la storia del cinema ricordi, nella quale la musica non solo segue ed illustra le sequenze girate del film, ma anche lo spieghi, lo espanda  e lo commenti.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Un esempio perfetto in C’era una volta il West sono l'armonica stridente e la chitarra elettrica che segnalano la presenza di Charles Bronson nel granaio di Jill ancora prima che la macchina da presa lo inquadri. Suoni "concreti" ed elettronici, rumori di fondo ed amplificati (il gocciolio dell’acqua, un bisbigliare, il ronzio delle mosche ….) fanno frequentemente da ponte collegando tra loro episodi altrimenti apparentemente discontinui, a volte sostituendo direttamente i dialoghi e sottolineando le sequenze e i primi piani di Sergio Leone.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Sempre per la colonna sonora di C’era una volta il West, sceneggiatura precedentemente scartata da Bertolucci, essa fu completata addirittura prima dell’inizio delle riprese, come confermato da Leone: &lt;i&gt;"throughout the shooting schedule, we listened to the recordings. Everyone acted with the music, followed its rhythms, and suffered with its 'aggravating' qualities, which grind the nerves."&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Il capolavoro del Leone è un capriccioso balletto di morte, coreografato dal maelstrom musicaledi di Morricone. Ogni personaggio si muove su un tema ricorrente e la musica mima e sottolinea le interpretazioni iconografiche di Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robards, e Claudia Cardinale.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Tuttavia, per quanto siano le più note ed imitate, le colonne sonore scritte per Leone rappresentano solo una parte della vena creativa del compositore, il quale si è cimentato praticamente con tutti i generi cinematografici: dalla fantascienza al thriller, dal film erotico alla commedia di costume, fondamentale la compilation “Crime and Dissonance” curata dal Mike Patton e uscita per la sua casa discografica Ipecac che permette l’ascolto delle perle nascoste di Morricone. Durante la sua carriera si è cimentato in tutte le specializzazioni della composizione musicale: nella musica assoluta così come nella musica applicata, dapprima come orchestratore e direttore in campo discografico, poi come compositore per il teatro, la radio, la televisione ed il cinema. Nel 1946 consegue il diploma di tromba al Conservatorio e ottiene il primo impiego come arrangiatore per il teatro di varietà; nel 1947 viene ingaggiato come compositore di musiche per teatro; nel 1953 realizza il primo arrangiamento per una serie di trasmissioni per la radio. Nel 1954 si diploma in Composizione al Conservatorio sotto la guida di Goffredo Petrassi. I voti: diploma in tromba (7/10), strumentazione per banda (9/10) e composizione (9,50/10)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Comincia a scrivere musiche per film nel 1955, lavorando parallelamente come arrangiatore di musica leggera per diverse orchestre e per i dischi dalla RCA Italiana. Nel 1956 sposa Maria Travia e nel 1958 viene assunto dalla Rai come assistente musicale, ma si licenzia il giorno stesso non appena apprende che gli sarà preclusa ogni possibilità di carriera e che, per espressa volontà dell'allora direttore generale Filiberto Guala, era assolutamente proibita la trasmissione delle musiche composte da impiegati dell'ente radiotelevisivo pubblico. La sua carriera di compositore di musica per film ha inizio nel 1961 con Il Federale di Luciano Salce. Nel 1965 entra a far parte del Gruppo d’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza; nel 1984, insieme ad altri compositori fonda a Roma l'I.R.TE.M. (Istituto di Ricerca per il Teatro Musicale, a testimonianza del suo desiderio di voler farsi considerare come un autore di estrazione "colta" e non solo come il "mago delle colonne sonore". Dal 1960 Morricone ha musicato oltre 400 film lavorando con moltissimi registi italiani ed internazionali (tra questi: Sergio Leone, Gillo Pontecorvo, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Bernardo Bertolucci, Giuliano Montaldo, Lina Wertmuller, Giuseppe Tornatore, Brian De Palma, Roman Polanski, Warren Beatty, Adrian Lyne, Oliver Stone, Margarethe Von Trotta, Henry Verneuil, Pedro Almodovar, Roland Joffè). Tra I suoi film più noti ricordiamo: La Battaglia di Algeri; Sacco e Vanzetti; Cinema Paradiso; La legenda del Pianista sull’Oceano, Malena; The Untouchables, C’era una volta in America; Mission; U-Turn. La sua produzione di Musica Assoluta comprende più di 100 composizioni scritte dal 1946 ad oggi. Alcuni titoli: Concerto per orchestra 1 (1957); Frammenti di Eros (1985); Rag in Frantumi (1986); Cantata per L’Europa (1988); UT, per tromba, archi e percussioni (1991); Ombra di Lontana Presenza (1997); Voci dal Silenzio (2002); Sicilo ed altri Frammenti (2006); Vuoto di Anima Piena (2008).&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Fondamentale per la sua carriera l’incontro con Sergio Leone, Morricone già aveva realizzato le colonne sonore per due westerns (Gunfight at Red Sands di Ricardo Blanco e le Pistole non ragionano di Mario Caiano) prima di venire da lui contattato nel 1964 per la colonna sonora di Per Un Pugno di Dollari. Morricone e Leone in realtà si conoscevano già, erano stati compagni di classe alle scuole elementari e Leone era stato colpito dalle prime colonne sonore di Morricone, ritenendole come nettamente differenti nell’ambito della comune routine cinematografica. In particolare era rimasto colpito dall’arrangiamento discordante della canzone popolare americana “Pastueres of Plenty” che Morricone aveva realizzato l’anno prima, vi riscontrava le stesse idee sovversive e revisioniste con cui aveva intenzione di rileggere il cliché dei film western.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: E’ il 2007, siamo a Colonia, in Germania, per la Triennale di Musica. Il programma della Triennale prevede che sei specialisti di musica rinascimentale si confrontino con altrettanti esperti di musica contemporanea. Pianoforte con clavicembralo, organo con tatstiere e sintetizzatori e così via. La chitarra ovviamente si affianca al liuto.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Da questi accoppiamenti i musicisti devono creare della musica nuova che tenga conto delle caratteristiche dei loro strumenti e della loro formazione musicale. Per la chitarra il campione chiamato nel nome della modernità è il signor Scott Fields, americano, chitarrista e improvvisatore votato alla libera improvvisazione sullo stile di gente come Derek Bailey o Larry Ochs, e compagno di giochi di Elliott Sharp. al liuto anzi alla tiorba viene chiamato Stephan Rath.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;I due suonano, si divertono, creano una bella intesa tanto che le loro musiche vengono registrate dallo stesso Fields e dopo un paio di anno stampate su cd per la Neos, casa discografica molto attenta ai repertori contemporanei.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Nelle note che accompagano il cd Fields parla tranquillamente di musica “composta” per la Triennale, ma non esiste alcun riferimento sul fatto che queste musiche siano state stampate o siano disponibili per altri interpreti. Sinceramente spero esistanod elle trascrizioni perché le musiche sono davvero belle, molto intense e quasi sognanti nella loro malinconia e i due musicisti suonano benissimo. Nonostante la differenza di strumento e di formazione superano benissimo le difficoltà e suonano con un interplay davvero bello e piacevole. I due strumenti posso fare quello che vogliono, suonare il basso d’accompagnamento, le parti melodiche, essere dissonanti .. e si scambiano con molto gusto i ruoli e le competenze senza scalfire il tessuto musicale o senza mostrare segni di cedimento. Sono 5 brani i primi quattro ideati come parti di una suite e l’ultimo “what we talk” che da il nome la cd concepito come a se stante, le durate comprese tra un minimo di di quasi 6 minuti a un amssimo di quasi 23. La musica non è da meno e molti compositori contemporanei hanno deciso di evocare l’oriente nelle loro musiche, con risultati non sempre rispettosi delle culture che essi andavano a studiare (e in molti casi a saccheggiare).&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Alcuni compositori si sono semplicemente limitati ad incrementare i colori a loro disposizione nella loro tavolozza musicale, altri hanno assimilato queste culture all’interno della propria e altri ancora ne hanno utilizzato alcuni aspetti mantenendoli intatti. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Per un compositore come George Crumb, che ha sempre amato lavorare e confrontarsi con suoni nuovi e particolari l’oriente ha rappresentato una cornucopia di strumenti, timbri e colori particolari: in Music for a Summer Evening ha utilizzato campane buddiste giapponesi, thumb piano e percussioni africane e cinesi e altri strumenti di derivazione non occidentale. La pluralità e la diversità fra loro di questi strumenti indica non tanto la volontà di rappresentare qualche aspetto specifico di un’altra cultura, piuttosto il fatto di impiegarli in modo più o meno arbitrario in quanto portatori di novità per il pubblico occidentale.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Tehillim di Steve Reich è un buon esempio della seconda categoria in quanto si parla melodie derivate da Salmi Ebraici e mediorientali impiegati all’interno delle tecniche minimalistiche e di derivazione jazzistica dello stesso Reich. Questo rappresenta un interessante utilizzo di materiale musicale non Occidentale e crea una nuova sintesi tra arte Occidentale e Orientale.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;La terza categoria è rintracciabile invece all’interno di alcune musiche di John Zorn, come Forbidden Fruit (Spillane), che presentano aspetti e caratteristiche delle musiche e delle arti orientali liberi però dai condizionamenti della cultura Occidentale.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Frequentemente però i compositori occidentali si limitano a saccheggiare indiscriminatamente le idee orientali a proprio beneficio, permettetemi una piccola polemica personale: credo che un koreano che ascolti le Variations on a Korean Folk Song di John Cage rimarrebbe piuttosto sorpreso nello scoprire quanto la musica cinese faccia parte della sua musica popolare.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Tutto questo “pistolotto” perchè mi chiedo se sia corretto per un compositore ignorare in modo più o meno innocente e consapevole le strutture culturali sottostanti all’arte orientale e allo stesso tempo mi chiedo però se per il pubblico sia davvero necessario conoscere questi aspetti per apprezzare musica composta con strutture o strumenti “esotici”.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Penso che a un Cinese farebbe piacere scoprire che l’arte del proprio paese è correttamente rappresentata e citata e non scambiata per arte Coreana o Giapponese, ma per chi ascolta … importa davvero?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Penso che Lou Harrison possa essere citato a fianco di Steve Reich per l’utilizzo mirato, consapevole e rispettoso di alcuni elementi dell’arte e della musica Gamelan e Indonesiana portandoli all’interno dei suo codici compositivi personali derivati dalla cultura Occidentale. Il risultato come in questo disco stampato nel 1990, ma che porta musiche registrate a metà degli anni 80 ne sia un ottimo esempio, John Schneider è bravissimo a interpretare brani come Avalokiteshvara, Cantiche No.3, Plaint &amp;amp; Variations, Serenado Por Gitaro, Serenade for Guitar. Le musiche composte per Just Intonation e Pythagorean Tuning sono molto belle, armoniose, melodiche, luminose e rilassanti allo stesso tempo, Darmstadt e certi intellettualismi esacerbati europei sono lontani anni luce. e &lt;a href="http://chitarraedintorni.blogspot.com/2008/11/recensione-di-from-new-world-di.html"&gt;From The New World&lt;/a&gt; qualche anno fa. La sua recente scomparsa, il 10 gennaio di questo già triste 2012 dopo una lunga malattia (la sclerosi laterale amiotrofica) all’età di 55 anni mi ha spinto a rimetterli sul piatto e a riascoltarli nuovamente e a scrivere queste poche righe come mio personale commiato e omaggio.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;La figura di Scodanibbio si aggiunge a quella di altri grandi a cui le Parche, figlie di Zeus e Temi, hanno voluto tagliare il filo della vita. Nomi come quelli di Romitelli e di Maderna, giganti sconosciuti ai più, giganti in confronto a una italietta sordida e parlamentare, becera e volgarmente salottiera e televisivamente ignorante e pure fiera dei bunga bunga e dei celoduristi manganellari e dei privilegiati vaticani e dell’impunità degli evasori fiscali e dei fascisti inneggianti alla morte di chi combatte il terrorismo.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Scusate non ho mai fatto politica sul mio Blog ma la morte di Scodanibbio ha aggiunto ulteriore amarezza al mio sconforto per come vedo la mia “Povera Patria” massacrata e umiliata dalle tante iene che la circondano e dai tanti vampiri che la depredano.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Parliamo di musica, parliamo di Arte e cerchiamo di risollevarci il morale e di costruire qualcosa di positivo per noi e per i nostri figli. Ho un grande rammarico, volevo intervistare Scodanibbio per il Blog, mi stavo preparando, piano piano stavo acquistando i suoi dischi, costruendo la sua discografia all’interno della mia biblioteca musicale, volevo prepararmi bene, ma non ce l’ho fatta maledizione. La vita, la morte, il destino sono stati più veloci, Le chiedo scusa Maestro, non ce l’ho fatta ed è questo il mio più grande rammarico e rimpianto, pensavo di avere tempo … sono stato sciocco, la vita mi ha ricordato una volta di più di quanto fosse necessario che “we are only immortal for a limited time” per citare i Rush di “Dreamline”.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Lei è stato un grande, scriveva giustamente Luigi Nono che niente come un grande interprete può spingere i compositori a creare musica per uno specifico strumento e Lei ha dimostrato di saper travalicare i limiti del suo contrabbasso raggiungendo nuove vette di virtuosismo e di intelligenza e creatività musicale, per Lei hanno scritto in tanti: Bussotti, Donatoni, Estrada, Ferneyhough,Frith, Globokar, Sciarrino, Xenakis … un elenco lunghissimo, Lei ha saputo unire l’America e l’Europa della musica contemporanea sotto la bandiera della grande Musica. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Tutti Le dobbiamo tanto .. per esempio … Sa come ho saputo della Sua scomparsa? Un post su facebook di quel pazzo geniale di &lt;a href="http://chitarraedintorni.blogspot.com/2009/01/speciale-paolo-angeli.html"&gt;Paolo Angeli &lt;/a&gt;…. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Di Lei Cage ha detto: &lt;i&gt;"Stafano Scodanibbio is amazing. I haven't heard better double bass playing than Scodanibbio's. I was just amazed. And I think everyone who heard him was amazed. He is really extraordinary. His performance was absolutely magic."&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Io non mi sento di aggiungere altro … completerò la Sua discografia Maestro, e mi impegno a scrivere qualcosa di serio, di intelligente, di vero e di umano su di Lei.
