Questo libro è il risultato di due anni di lavoro trascorsi nell'intervistare quindici chitarristi conosciuti nel corso di questi sette anni di attività come blogger per il mio Blog Chitarra e Dintorni.

Poter frequentare musicisti come Paolo Sorge, Florindo Baldissera, Simone Massaron, Paolo Angeli, Elena Càsoli, Elia Casu, Vittorino Nalato, Gisbert Watty, Dora Filippone, Alessandra Novaga, Marco Cappelli, Maurizio Grandinetti, Donato D'Antonio, Eugenio Becherucci e Arturo Tallini è stato per me fondamentale per la mia crescita personale, sia dal punto di vista musicale che umano. Sono persone davvero speciali di cui ho imparato ad apprezzare la musica, le idee, l'istinto, il pensiero e la piacevole compagnia. Il titolo “Chitarre Visionarie” riflette proprio questo loro atteggiamento “visionario” nei confronti della loro musica e dei loro strumenti: indipendentemente dal fatto che si tratti di musica, classica, contemporanea, rinascimentale, jazz, avanguardia, blues ciascuno di loro si distingue per il particolare e innovativo approccio nei confronti della chitarra e per il libero, a tratti anarcoide, pensiero musicale.

Per mettere meglio in risalto queste loro caratteristiche ho scelto di fare solo domande aperte lasciando loro il massimo spazio possibile, si tratta in gran parte di domande indirette, come quelle dedicate all'improvvisazione (mia personale ossessione) o all'ambiente culturale in cui vivono. In altri casi sono state poste a tutti loro le stesse domande, come quelle sui generi musicali, su Zappa, sulla “trans-genericità” della chitarra e su Adorno. Come risultato ho spesso ottenuto 15 risposte diverse per ciascuno di loro, tutte ugualmente coerenti, interessanti e sincere.

Rileggendo più volte queste risposte mi sono sorpreso nel tracciare altri collegamenti e connessioni inaspettate tra chitarre, personalità e idee radicalmente diverse tra loro e credo che il risultato finale sia un libro che può presentare diverse modalità di lettura e che alla fine metta in risalto il pensiero creativo di ciascuno di loro.

Il risultato di tutto questo lavoro è un libro autoprodotto di 200 pagine, copertina retinata, carta avorio, con la gentile prefazione di Enrico Bettinello, Direttore del Teatro Fondamenta Nuove di Venezia. Le immagini in copertina sono opera del Maestro Gianfranco Lai.

Liebe Freunde und Bekannte, liebes Publikum,

seit Anfang Februar vermissen wir unseren engen Freund, Weggefährten, Schlagzeuger und Mitbegründer des Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Daniel Buess. Seit vorgestern haben wir nun die traurige Gewissheit, dass Daniel tot ist.

Sein Leben für die Musik und der konsequente Einsatz für seine starken inhaltlichen und künstlerischen Überzeugungen haben uns als Menschen sowie das ganze Ensemble entscheidend geformt und geprägt.

Auch wenn es uns sehr schwer fällt, die momentane immense Leere zu überwinden, müssen wir hier den Weg ohne Daniel weiter gehen - in der Überzeugung, dass wir die Aufgabe haben, seine Stimme am Klingen zu erhalten. Die archaische Kraft seines Musizierens - im Wuchtigen wie im Feinen - wird uns immer begleiten.

since early February we miss our close friend, companion, drummer and co-founder of Ensemble Phoenix Basel, Daniel Buess. We now know for certain that Daniel has passed away.

His life for the music and the resolute commitment for his strong artistic beliefs have formed us as people and left their marks on the entire ensemble decisively.

Although being very difficult to overcome the current immense emptiness, we must walk on here the path without Daniel - in the strong belief that we have the task to let his voice sound on. The archaic power of his music-making - forceful as well as sensitive - will always accompany us.

annuncia i due laboratori per musicisti e sperimentatori sonori

parte delle attività formative del 2016 rivolte alle arti dal vivo.

Gli ospiti chiamati quest'anno a condurre le attività laboratoriali dedicate alla musica sono Davide Tidoni, ricercatore e artista Italiano interessato alla dimensione umana e relazionale dell'ascolto, e Markus Stockhausen, trombettista figlio del celebre compositore tedesco e massimo rappresentante dell'approccio alla creazione tramite la Musica Intuitiva.

Il primo appuntamento con la formazione è "Venice by Night", condotto da Davide Tidoni: una sessione di 3 incontri notturni a Forte Marghera, Mestre (VE) il 15 - 16 - 17 aprile finalizzati a portare in primo piano la fisicità del suono, preparare i corpi dei partecipanti ad avere a che fare e interagire con una presenza che coinvolge e mette in vibrazione tutto ciò che tocca. I corpi dei partecipanti si alleneranno ad agire come veri e propri filtri in grado di gestire,fronteggiare e rispondere alla forza del suono che li colpisce. Il workshop si svolgerà a Venezia e si rivolge a chiunque sia interessato a confrontarsi con le possibilità d'interazione tra suono, corpo e spazio.

Davide Tidoni lavora con le registrazioni audio e il field recording; le sue performance invitano all'esperienza fisico/emotiva del suono, i suoi workshop mirano a produrre e sperimentare strategie di ascolto, di intervento e attivazione dello spazio acustico.

Il secondo appuntamento è invece destinato a musicisti elettronici esperti; si tratta del laboratorio "Intuitive Music And More with electronics" il cui obiettivo principale è l'esplorazione della Musica Intuitiva utilizzando strumenti musicali elettronici o strumenti musicali tradizionali filtrati da sistemi che ne permettano la manipolazioni sonora.

Trombettista e compositore, Markus Stockhausen ha collaborato lungamente con il padre, il compositore tedesco Karlheinz Stockhausen. Cresciuto tra musica classica, jazz e avanguardia, dal 2002 si dedica alle sue composizioni e improvvisazioni, includendo nel suo percorso un particolare tipo di Musica Intuitiva che trascende dai generi musicali. Tiene regolarmente seminari ("Singing and Silence", "Intuitive Music And More") e ha all'attivo oltre 80 incisioni.

Il laboratorio si terrà a Forte Marghera, Mestre (VE) dall'11 al 13 luglio e prevede un concerto conclusivo aperto al pubblico.

Announcement for Research-Led Performance Workshop The Guitar in the Work of Mauricio Kagel, Giacomo Manzoni and Fausto Romitelli

From 27^th to 29^th June 2016, the Institute for Music of the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, in collaboration with the Orpheus Instituut in Ghent (Belgium), will organise a workshop intended for musicians specialised in electric and/or acoustic guitar performance, who are familiar with any musical language for guitar.

The notice of registration for 12 participants with scholarships is intended to encourage collaboration between composers, musicologists and instrumentalists, preparing performances based on in-depth studies of musical structures as well as sources pertaining to the compositional process and documentation of historical performances.

Each of the three days of the workshop is subdivided into a theoretical section, held during the morning, and a section dedicated to musical practices. The section dedicated to musical practices will be held by Luk Vaes, who will discuss the works Tactil and Unter Strom of composer Mauricio Kagel; Elena Casoli, who will explore a few compositions for acoustic guitar by Giacomo Manzoni and Fausto Romitelli; Giacomo Baldelli, who will focus on the repertoire for electric guitar and especially on Trash Tv Trance by Fausto Romitelli.

The workshop will come to a conclusion with three concerts that foresee the performance, among other works, of the following compositions: Tactil and Unter Strom by Mauricio Kagel, Echi by Giacomo Manzoni and Trash TV Trance by Fausto Romitelli.

Il Quartetto di Liuti da Milano è un ensemble dedito al repertorio del Rinascimento e del primo Barocco italiano. Il gruppo nasce nel 2012 a Milano grazie al sostegno della Fondazione Marco Fodella, riscuotendo fin da subito un ottimo consenso da parte della critica. I suoi componenti sono quattro liutisti emergenti nel panorama italiano della Musica Antica: Emilio Bezzi, Renato Cadel, Elisa La Marca e Giulia La Marca. L’ensemble si pone come obiettivo la ricerca delle potenzialità poco esplorate del liuto nella musica d’assieme. Convinto del ruolo non unicamente accompagnatore o solistico del liuto, il Quartetto propone come suo repertorio non solo la letteratura liutistica, ma anche composizioni “per ogni sorta di stromenti” e l’esecuzione strumentale di musica vocale. Mottetti, madrigali e villanelle, infatti, non erano riservati esclusivamente ai cantanti, ma era anche pratica comune suonarli senza le voci. Senza testo poetico, il loro raffinato impianto polifonico esprime comunque il clima espressivo della composizione, esaltandone i contenuti musicali più intimi. Nell’esecuzione strumentale si possono inoltre sviluppare le melodie attraverso l’arte della diminuzione e dell’ornamentazione, esplicitando le tante sfumature non scritte insite nei brani. Lo studio delle fonti mostra con chiarezza come il liuto sia stato protagonista di queste prassi esecutive, non solo come solista. Un quartetto di liuti conferisce così un colore speciale a questa musica, offrendo al pubblico odierno una ricostruzione sonora degli ambienti più riservati dei palazzi antichi, dove il liuto era uno degli strumenti più amati.

Nel 2015, Brilliant Classics ha pubblicato il primo disco dell’ensemble, Vita de la mia vita. Il progetto, dedicato al secondo Cinquecento italiano, ha riscosso un ottimo successo da parte della critica. Il CD è stato recentemente presentato al pubblico di Radio 3 alla trasmissione Primo movimento e, con una performance live, a La stanza della musica.

Hello Nicolò, how did your idea of youtube Chitarra Classica Italia channel start?

Hello Andrea, the idea just comes from my desire to experiment and play on the instrument trying to create new and unique songs, which are the mirror of my artistic soul; from this experience I had the input to expand my concept of creating music and then, stimulated by the fact that I know many guitarists who are valid composers and arrangers, I thought it was only right to create a meeting point where everyone can deal with others and thus strengthen more and more the idea that you have to trust your instincts trying to look for new musical paths, maybe never explored. Then the Channel will be a reference for creative guitarists who will be able to share together a common project that is the "play with music" to pull off something original and unique.

What should distinguish this channel from the more or less professional ones already on the web?

On the web we can now really find millions of youtube channels that deal with classical guitar, but for the most part, these channels deal with classical or chamber repertory ; then there are the various composers guitarists who with great courage and effort, day after day try to make known their music. The youtube Chitarra Classica Italia channel has the intention to bring together all these composers and arrangers trying to create a catchment area where those who enter know they can listen to classical guitar from another point of view. This channel is unique in its own style, because so far no one has ever dedicated a well-defined creative guitarists space.

Who can contribute to this channel and how?

In this channel can join all classical guitarists who want to present their ideas both original songs that the original arrangements they have created. They will be published only the videos that have professional quality audio, a video resolution of 1080p and possibly even a minimum of video direction. Can composers and pieces already registered with the SIAE be charged on the channel and how?

They can also join us compositions already registered to SIAE without limits and constraints, initially we will deal only with us to promote on youtube and various social networks such as Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter.

For composers .. do you think to publish only their videos or even their music?

This is really a very interesting question; at this time we are not an edito, we are concerned about posting videos on youtube and advertise on social networks, in the future if the project will be significantly expanded one could even think of publishing scores. In any case, the composer who will publish the video on our youtube channel, will have the opportunity to enter a personal link in the video description where he can sell and distribute their music.

What goals do you propose in terms of visits and visibility on the web and on social networks?

Our goals are long-term course; On facebook already exists, since 2014, the group of Chitarra Classica Italia with more than 1000 members, Italian and international guitarists, this is already a good start. The fundamental concept that will bring up the project is: "Unity is strength", ie the more we are proposing interesting music and more chances of success and visibility it will have in the future.

What are your future career plans?

Currently expect, in 15 days, the release of the first video clip on youtube channel Chitarra Classica Italia; It will be the first video which will open the channel and it will be an original composition titled Vortex, composed and interpreted by 90100 Guitar Duo to which I belong with the talented guitarist Antonino Argento. In parallel I am already planning for 2016 to record my solo album that will contain original compositions for solo guitar and probably tracks with broader formations.
