My friend who plays poker online professionally gave me an easy way to get some holiday cash. You don’t need to be an expert, just know the basics. Sign up and get the bonus and play out your hands in the low limit tables. I think the bonus is like $500 right now.

You have to be a little careful as there are a lot of bad companies running online poker books. One’s that don’t pay out on time or have fake players. Stick to the big names like Party Poker or something and you’ll be fine. It sounds kind of difficult but it’s really not. Good luck and get that money.

When I first arrived here, certain people, mostly older people would serve food to me and watch as I ate it to see my reaction. They would say “be careful, it’s spicy”. One person even asked me if I could eat kimchi which was borderline insulting.  While there are peppers in a lot of Korean foods, I generally don’t think of Korean food when I think of spicy foods.

So recently my friend proposed that I try buldak (fire chicken) before I leave Korea. She played it up and said she wanted to video tape my reaction. After close to 2 years of eating all kinds of mildly hot foods, I thought this should be good for a laugh and that she would end up extremely disappointed.

We ended up at Hwarang Buldak in Nonhyeon. Apparently this place is one of the more famous buldak restaurants in Seoul. For instructions and a map of the area, you can check out this person’s blog.

The verdict:

It’s hot. Hotter than any other food I’ve tried in Korea by far. Both the buldak and the dakbal (chicken feet).

The food has a nice smoked flavor. That’s before the chemicals come start a fire in your mouth/stomach.

Buldak has “capsicum” cooked into it. If you aren’t familar with capsicum, it’s the same chemical which is found in pepper spray (self defense spray). At least you can feel better knowing that if you’re ever encountered by a rapist, you can throw your leftovers at him and save yourself.

Again it’s my opinion but if you’re starving, I don’t recommend eating this food. Even with rice and Calpis (juice), I couldn’t wash the burning sensation out of my mouth.

Worth trying if you want to embarrass your friends or if you’re real fond of spicy food but otherwise it’s just a moderately expensive experiment. 66,000w for 2 people.

The first place I saw it was at the Family Mart down the street. The guy who runs it says it’s not everywhere but the individual marts have to ask for  it, that’s if they even know what it is. Knowing how aggressive Red Bull’s marketing is, shouldn’t take too long. They’re already up to their usual craziness as shown in the following clips.

So why I’m I bothering to write this somewhat extensive post about Red Bull here in Korea? For starters, brand loyalty. Back in the US the local Red Bull team used to come around our bboy practice spot and hand out cases of Red Bull like it was water (the free water). Sometimes I had so much Red Bull, it would spill out of my glove compartment in my car.

Other times people would just play around with it lol

Aside from that, it’s a good product. You don’t get your own stadium and racing team by putting out crap.

We flew from Incheon to Osaka and took a bus from Osaka to Tokyo. My friend set that up because it’s less than half the cost of the speed train. For those considering that as an option, I’ll say it now. Don’t do it! It’s around 8-9 hours and personally I’m not the kind of person that can sleep in small spaces so it was not too fun.

I grabbed this delicious bowl of takoyaki ramyun before the bus ride!

They also had these UFO catchers up everywhere. I’m usually pretty good at the skill crane (with the 3 grabbers) but these were impossible!

Went to Tokyo that night and woke up to see a Rilakkuma store in the subway by the hotel!

Later on we went to the little Korea town they had and they had a cafe for 커피프린스!

After we went to Harajuku and the Meiji Shrine. Here I am at the little prayer fountain.

Then to Akihabara to check out the electronics and gaming district. On the way home we stopped at a maid cafe XD

I honestly had no idea there was clam digging in Korea. I know there are plenty of beaches but the thought never crossed my mind until my friend mentioned it.

We hopped on the subway from Seoul Station to Oido, line 4. It was about an hour and twenty minute trip! But I guess the bus isn’t much faster and the traffic sucks. If you’re looking to visit Oido, it’s on the very faaaaaarrr end of line 4.

So to catch clams, you have to hop in the mud at low tide like this guy. Haha I had nice jeans on and wasn’t ready to get dirty XD

Then you take your catch to one of the restaurants and throw your catch on one of these super hot charcoal grills. It was so hot that the clams would burst open if you left them on the grill for to long. Burned my finger >____< Definitely some of the best seafood I’ve ever had though. Nothing beats fresh food and food doesn’t get any fresher than this.

Then we got some fireworks from the mart, headed back to the beach to launch them off. That about wrapped up the trip. Hopped on the bus back which took me to Yeungdeunpo.
