As we continue our coverage of the 2010 Charleston Classic, I want to remind you guys to check out Shawdowmoss Plantation Golf Club for some great golf this weekend and also Twin River Lanes for some good clean fun at the best bowling alley in Charleston, SC.

First Round

Coastal Carolina vs Georgetown

All Hoyas in this one. Too much depth, too much talent. I expect Coastal to hang around for the first 8 minutes or so then the Hoyas will start wearing them down with the disciplined half court offense they display with skilled guards.

Georgetown 81 Coastal Carolina 64

USC Upstate vs Wofford

Wofford will take care of this rather easily and be up 12-15 by the half and pull away early in second half, allowing them to be rested for a second round battle with Georgetown.

USC Upstate 52 Wofford 71

East Carolina vs NC State

I expect this one to be pretty close, low scoring in the first half. NC state up by two at the half but pull away in the second half and win comfortably down the stretch.

East Carolina 67 NC State 79

George Mason vs Charlotte

The last game of the night should be the best…I think it will be a back and forth game but in the end, I think George Mason’s coaching experience will be the difference, but only in a nailbitter!

George Mason 68 Charlotte 63

Second Round

Georgetown vs Wofford

Historically, this would be a blow out. But not this year, in this tournament. Wofford should have a strong following in the tournament and with returning a solid team, Georgetown will be in for a fight. I expect Wofford to come out to a early lead and even lead at the half. In the end, Georgetown pulls it out as they have a superior back court and size.

Georgetown 74 Wofford 69

NC State vs George Mason

This is going to be a battle of youth versus experience. NC State will rely on the young guns of Harrow, Brown and Leslie while I expect George Mason to throw some zone looks at the Wolfpack to try to slow the running game down. Tracy Smith will dominate down on the blocks to carry NC State to a close victory.

George Mason 67 NC State 73

Finals

NC State vs Georgetown

This is the final ESPN wants and I believe they will get it this Sunday. Georgetown is trying to step it up to become a top 10 nationally ranked team. NC State looks to take this as a big chance to put them on a national stage along with a top 25 rank. Wow, a ton will be on the line here! Ryan Harrow, the future of NC State star point guard versus Chris Wright, the kid who was suppose to be the guy to run the show the last four years for NC State.. Two storied programs, going head to head. Who wins? NC State! Ryan Harrow has a breakout game to send a message to NC State fans, ACC followers, and the nation that the pack is back once again.

NC State 70 Georgetown 65

What do you guys think? Leave me a comment!

Staying the weekend for the Charleston Classic 2010 tournament and looking to hit the links as well? Remember, Saturday they will be zero basketballs hitting the hardwood!

Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club is the ideal choice for this upcoming weekend. Shadowmoss was carved from an original Charleston Plantation featuring beautiful Bermuda fairways and greens that were renovated in 2003. We feel that Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club offers the most value, as did Golf Magazine who said this course is a, “Fun, Well-Conditioned, Test”. Also, Golf Digest ranked it as one of the “Best Places to play in 2008.”

If you are looking for an enjoyable place to play, this is the course to be on. You will get great service from the staff at Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club . We will be playing there this weekend and I hope to see you out on the links as well!

You can book your tee time at Shawdowmoss Plantation Golf Club.

Shadowmoss Plantation Golf Club is located at:

20 Dunvegan Drive, Charleston, SC. 29414

You can also book your tee time via phone at 843-556-8251.

Look for a in depth review, with pictures next weekend!

The last team in the Charleston Classic 2010 field we will preview is the NC State Wolfpack. The recent years under former player and now head coach Sidney Lowe have been rough for Wolfpack fans. Lowe has compiled a less than spectacular record at 71-62 (20-44 ACC) but yet they are reason to be opptimsitic in Raleigh. Lowe has Tracy Smith returning, who averaged 16.5 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Tracy Smith was a force down low and Lowe will again look to run his offense through the senior power forward this year. Along with Smith, senior Javi Gonzalez will return to share the leadership role to try to return NC State to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2006.

The Wolfpack finished the season strong last year, making it to the ACC tournament semifinals and appearing in the second round of the NIT tournament. Along with the two seniors, NC State returns long range expert Scott Wood and wide body Richard Howell, both who contributed during the stretch run when the Wolfpack was hitting on all cylinders. Why would NC State be considered a favorite to challenge Georgetown for the Charleston Classic title? Look no further than the top 5 class that Sidney Lowe reeled in. The headliner, CJ Leslie, a 6′9″McDonalds All-American will add length and shot blocking to the defensive end of the court and electrify dunks to the offensive end. For the Wolfpack diehards though, the most welcomed arrival will be the backcourt tandem of Ryan Harrow and Lorenzo Brown. Harrow and Brown will bring a much needed ability to breakdown defenses and push tempo which is something Sidney Lowe has been looking forward to doing since taking the job at NC State.

Interesting Fact: Ryan Harrow and Lorenzo Brown, both five-star recruits are God Brothers. Harrow and Brown grew up in the Atlanta area together and played basketball against each other in high school before deciding to team up for the Wolfpack this year.

Joining the Charleston Classic 2010 field is a national powerhouse, the Georgetown Hoyas. Lead by Head Coach John Thompson lll. Georgetown is ranked top 25 in most preseason polls and will look for senior guard Austin Freeman to lead the way this year. Freeman averaged 16.5 ppg during his junior year and will be need to continue his dominance on the court for Georgetown to win the 2010 Charleston Classic event. Last season, Georgetown finished 23-11 overall and advanced to the Big East Tournament Championship game. Look for Georgetown to be the favorite headed into the Charleston Classic.

Interesting Fact: Senior Point Guard, Chris Wright, originally committed to North Carolina State before reopening his recruitment after former Wolfpack coach Herb Sendek left for Arizona State. Wright strongly considered joining the Wolfpack again under Sidney Lowe but at the last minute decided to stay closer to home at Georgetown. Wright averaged 15.2 ppg and 4.1 apg last season and still have many Wolfpack fans wondering how different things would have been if Wright would have stayed with N.C. State.

The 2010 Charleston Classic features a Southern Conference member in the Wofford Terriers. Wofford is coming off the programs first ever NCAA tournament appearance in a season they finished 26-9, 15-3 in conference. It took head coach Mike Young 8 attempts, but last season was the charm! Now, Young looks to use the Charleston Classic as a springboard to another successful season and NCAA Tournament bid. Wofford has been ranked as the 50th best basketball team in the nation by Sporting News so the talent will be there to capture the Charleston Classic 2010 title and keep it in the state of South Carolina. Wofford will look for senior Noah Dahlman to lead the way. Dahlman averaged 17.8 PPG as a junior last season. Excitement around the Wofford Terriers basketball program is at a all-time high and they will be looking to push it to the next level this season, starting with the Charleston Classic 2010 tournament.
