The Leominster Trail Stewards are a group of volunteers dedicated to keeping the community network of trails in Leominster clean, functioning and appropriately used by the public. They became an official group in 2010 after the destructive ice storm of 2008. Dozens of community members worked tirelessly after the storm to erase the damage it did to the trails and began to realize the true value of the Leominster trail system. The Leominster Trail Stewards have since been improving and maintaining the area and promoting appropriate community use of the 25 miles of trail in Leominster.

The Jeanie Barkley Memorial Fund was founded by the friends and family of Jeanie Barkley who passed away in 2007 due to Aplastic Anemia. Aplastic Anemia is a rare bone marrow disease which prevents the production of blood cells and platelets. Because of this disease, Jeanie underwent over 100 blood transfusions within just 22 months. Her loved ones continue to honor Jeanie’s memory with this annual blood drive and marrow registry to prevent others from getting diseases like Jeanie’s. The Jeanie Barkley Memorial Fund raises money each year to give out as scholarship money to a graduating senior at Alvirne High School who exhibits Jeanie’s love of the community and a potential for making a positive impact on the lives of others as Jeanie did in her life.

Kid’s Coop Theatre is a theatre organization for children of ages 8-18 of all levels of experience. The group has held over 40 exciting shows at the Derry Opera House, and thousands visit the events each year. The goal of Kid’s Coop Theatre is to provide every child interest in acting an opportunity to grow as a person and participate for as cheap as possible. Although government recognized, Kid’s Coop largely relies on donations. No child or teen is ever turned away from the theatre group with the belief that every child should have the tools they need to grow up strong and confident.

The Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth is one of only 205 hospitals providing care specialized for children in the United States. It is New Hampshire’s only full-service, comprehensive children’s hospital, seeing normal healthcare visits, as well as rare childhood disease cases. The hospital relies on community donations to help keep up their extensive care and specialty treatments for the children.

The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was founded by Danny Thomas in 1962 upon the belief that no child should die before they’ve had the chance to truly live. St. Jude is known for being the only pediatric cancer research center that does not make its patients pay what their insurance won’t cover and allows children to get the help and treatment they deserve regardless of financial status. The hospital also boasts the nation’s only on-site pediatric research center designed for producing specialized vaccines and treatments. The hospital’s research success continues to grow; the survival rate of children with cancer has increased from 20% to nearly 80% since St. Jude has been open.

The Manchester Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization that was founded 1996 on the belief that all animals should have a loving forever home. The shelter takes in abused, abandoned and homeless animals in the Manchester area and provides them with the medical attention, food and shelter, all through the community donations and help that they receive. The organization actively spays and neuters the animals that it takes in. Once the shelter gets the animals fully ready for adoption, they work to find them a permanent home. Since the shelter was founded, over 15,000 animals have been placed in loving homes.

The yoga class is donation-based class, but donations of $20 are strongly suggested because proceeds go directly to the Manchester Animal Shelter. The Krit Kearins Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Kristin “Krit” Kearins who passed suddenly during a bicycle accident in 2008 on the way home from her position at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. In just 26 years, Krit accomplished many things, having been an outstanding athlete and Andover High School and graduated with her B.A. in Early Childhood Development. The scholarship fund, raises money each year to support a senior athlete at Andover High School who demonstrates the same sportsmanship and energetic spirit as the fund’s namesake.

Race entry is just $25 for the 5K leading up to the race then $30 the day of. The childrens’ 1K race is just $5. To register, pleave visit the website. The Essex Street Gateway Community Mural was created to help make the community a better and prettier place in which to live. Team Haverhill is a non-profit organization whose focus is on the the connection between the arts and the community. They combine these passions and interests with projects such as the Essex Street Gateway Community Mural, which is the culmination of many tireless months of effort from volunteers and art students. The finished project will represent the culture, beauty, and history of the community.

The Humane Society for Greater Nashua was founded in 1900 and is a powerful non-profit organization operating solely through community donations to help protect and foster homeless animals. The organization takes in abandoned neglected and abused animals on a daily basis, protecting and advocating for them while placing them up for the long-term goal – adoption. The Humane Society for Greater Nashua provides a loving home, food and plenty of medical care in the interim but requires community volunteer and monetary efforts to continue doing their great work each year.

The community yoga event is donation-based, and all participants are encouraged to donate whatever they are comfortable with providing. The suggested donation amount is between $5 – $7. Operation Homefront is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks with a goal of providing aid for service members, the wounded and their families. The organization supplies emergency financial assistance, as well as other essential help for everyday living. This includes, but is not limited to, monetary funds, emergency food, shelter, home repairs and transitional housing. They have earned four out of four stars for the past five consecutive years from Charity Navigator, the nation’s top independent evaluator of non-profit organizations. All money raised through fundraisers and benefits goes directly towards helping those in need.
