Another Month, Another Post

Okay, so it's been a month since I have posted, I apologize, it seems to be the norm lately. Been a little busy around the Brown household lately. 2 kids, Soccer, 16 kids, more soccer, kindergarten, moms day out, my regular job, this "wanna be" job, you name it, we have done it.
I promise to be better as we have some stuff coming up I am really starting to get excited about. You down? I am!

The Best Camera..........

So I follow the blogs of several photogs who I dig their style and shots. Mostly sports dudes and a National Geographic guy or two. All of them obviously making a living at photography and very incredible at what they can do with a camera. One of blogs I follow is a guy named Chase Jarvis. Chase shoots all kinds of stuff and most recently published a book using nothing but images taken with his Iphone. He even created an App for the Iphone to do some touch up work on the images shot with an Iphone. So, for 3 bucks, I gave in and downloaded the app to the ole' Iphone and boy let me tell you, this is cool. Only had it a day or two but so far so good.

The App is called, "The Best Camera, is the one that you have with you." Pretty fitting for an app and book by the same title made up entirely of cell phone pics.

This is probably one of my all-time favorites of SB. Here she is wearing my hat from my girls soccer team. She loves to ham it up for the camera.

Below are two images, one of rain on the windshield of Triple G and one of some cloud formations. Why? Not sure what the sun looks like anymore so we shoot clouds now....Again, just wanting to see what the Iphone cam can handle. Too bad we cant remote that puppy somewhere.......... More to come.

Again, all of these were shot using the IPhone and the APP "the Best Camera is the one with you." Some cool stuff that I am already trying to figure out how to utilize to make a series out of. The Pearson Circus......Popsicle anyone?

So my Creative Director "G" and I get the text on Sunday afternoon to shoot some pics for my buddy Tin Cup and his crew. So we jump in the ole mini-van and head right over. Okay, so really he sent me a text to shoot pictures of his family. HEY!!! It's my blog! I'll tell the story how I want to tell it.

A few things I learned on this excursion. In order to photograph a 9 week old, shoot him right after he eats and just before he gets cranky and crashes. Another thing, and you would think I would know this one having 2 kids of my own, but always, always, always when shooting 2 year olds, pack plenty of popsicles.....just make sure your Creative Director knows the brand before she spouts of Dora or Hannah Montana. Although Eliza could care less, Popsicles can get you alot of places in this world. Got a box in the freezer now just waiting to help me move up the ladder........Whats that Boss, your a strawberry guy? Coming right up DB!

So we shot The Pearson Circus which includes Tin Cup, Jen, Eliza and "Chi" too bad we did not get Red the 200 pound Golden Retreiver in on the action. That would have been a pic to remember.

Okay, Story time. I told you earlier I would be coming back to a pic and telling you more about it. Close to 30 years ago a picture was taken of Jennifer when she was 3 or almost 3. She wanted to see if we could shoot something of Eliza so she could have a side-by-side made. Well, we got the shot and you know I could not leave well enough alone.

Here is the collage I put together in photoshop pretty quickly. The lower right hand pic is of Jennifer almost 30 years ago and of course Miss Eliza in the upper corner. The center image is a perfect Mommy / Daughter moment. Thanks guys for letting us in on it.

Special thanks to the Pearson Circus for letting us invade thier home for a couple of hours.
I shot over 250 pics and came away with well over 70 to choose from. Pretty good odds with a couple of 30 somethings I would say............

I apologize for being so behind, but frankly, I am way farther behind than you would think. Life is crazy, good but crazy right now. Here is a sneek peek.

2010 Basscat Jaguar - The Battleship Galactica or USS Mt. Home as I call it.

So on Monday I after my morning soccer practice workout with my girls team I make the drive over to Mt. Home Arkansas to shoot some pics for my buddies RP and GG. RP builds em', GG markets and makes these dudes look good in print and on the web. Me, I am just a button pusher. So, I show up to smell of new fiberglass and some sharp looking rides. The 2 most noticeable were the new Basscat Jaguars. These are 21-22 foot boats and are massive machines that are so easy to drive my Grandmother could drive it running 70mph with her hair on-fire. She wouldn't' but she could......

So anyway, once the dealers were taken care of we jumped right in an headed out. Marty Stone, my bald headed buddy from North Carolina jumped into the seat of my chase boat and I could not have asked for a better one, except for the time he got em wet from the spray of the other boat or the time he almost bounced me off the front deck, he did a great job. More on Marty in minute. Lets jump into pics and talk more there.

Here is Elite Series Pro John Crews getting it strung out. For a big boat she will run pretty hard. Would not expect anything less from a Merc powered BCB!

Thought this was a cool shot off the back deck. Marty stepped on it and I came really close to being a hood ornament for that big Mercury!!!

Artsy Fartsy time.......

Earlier this year Elite Series Angler and good friend Kevin Short, aka K-Pink and I got together on a "Day on the Lake" photo shoot and we busted out the remote equipment to try a few things. Being new to remotes I wanted to play and K-Pink was willing so we did. On my drive up on Monday I started getting text messages from Kevin on some remote stuff we needed to try on the new boat. We had time for one, see what you think.

So we had time for one remote and we set it up on the trolling motor looking back. Last time we did this at 60 mph the camera nose dived into the carpet. I have some really good shots of the carpet if anyone wants one. This time I came prepared with a small tripod to put under it. K-Pink tested, BCB approved, the mount held like a rock, check it out.

Here we are rolling out. See Nimrod on the front deck. That is actually where I sit until we get up to speed. The shots of the boats from the front are shot from this position. Once they pass I lay on my stomach on the front deck and shoot the rear 3/4 stuff. Would not trade this gig for anything, the adrenaline rush when everything is humming is unreal...Trust me it rocks, but kids, do not try this at home or with any other boat, this is a BCB deal!

K-Pink is catching us pretty quickly, this boat would run.

Rear 3/4 with the remote labeled. This is where it hit me that I forgot to tether the camera to the boat in case it got loose.......oops! Thank goodness all was well or else K-Pink would have had a Canon tattoo on his fore head and I would have been out of equipment.

Here is the remote shot. Same shot as above but different angle.......This front deck is huge, wish I had something to compare it to.

Here is another Remote Shot as me and my buddy get closer in the chase boat. I saw this later on the way home and wished we had dropped back a little so you could see my position in this deal, it's interesting to say the least......

This was the next frame as Marty and I sped up to move ahead of Kevin, you can see our rooster tail off the right side of the pic....

My apologies to all for not updating in what appears to be a huge amount of time. My "real" job is crazy right now and will be for a couple of weeks. I have been shooting, a bunch actually but just no time to write about it. That will all change though here very soon as I get back in to shooting and posting and running this crazy little business. Life's Little Buddies

You got a little buddy?
I do. His name is Caden. He is 4 about to turn 5 in July.
I had to shoot some stuff for my church last night and it had been a long day at home for Wifey and the kiddo's so I told Caden to get his stuff he was coming with me. "I want to shoot pictures too Dad!" I heard him holler down the hallway. "Okay!" You can use your Mom's camera I thought. So he grabbed his crocs, his bag of skittles (all photographers must have their energy bars Mom) and his Mom's point and shoot digital camera. He took a few shots of traffic from the back seat of the Golden Grocery Getter (Triple G we call her) and had some fun.

We stopped off at the local Huey's for a burger and some mini-corn dogs and he asked me, "Dad, how many friends do you have?" Before I could answer he gave me multiple choice, "1, 2, 6 or 10?" I said 10 and he got excited. Then he asked me who my best friend was. "You" I replied and he really got excited.

He followed me around the church gym as I shot recreation photos of a basketball game and then on to the sanctuary as we shot some images for the local high school graduation being held on the grounds. He had a blast and matched me shot for shot just about. Here are a few of Caden.

Caden at the gym shooting me as I was shooting Basketball. I could see his reflection in my LCD screen on the back of my camera and I quickly turned and shot this one and the next one before he knew what happened.

He obviously got a kick out of this one.

This next one we were walking across the balcony of the sanctuary during the graduation commencement. The sanctuary holds roughly 4500 folks and it was full. He was a trooper as we shot from 3 locations and he was right there beside me every step of the way. I looked back to make sure he was following me and hadn't lost his crocs and saw the intent look on his face so I held the camera backwards and shot this without him knowing I was shooting, nothing fancy, but it tells a story.

Thanks for reading, I will steal his memory card tonight and might try to post some of his pics this week, we are shooting baseball and volleyball tonight. He's pretty excited about this one too. Guess I will have to be on the lookout for a beat up Digital SLR to get him shooting more if he wants too. This was a blast for me probably more than it was for him I am sure.

Hug your little buddy or buddies tonight and remember, good or bad, all we do will be passed down to future generations, lets make those things rewarding & Godly.

Blind Squirrels

This past week I get invited down to the "Ponderosa" outside of Birmingham, Alabama for the annual Vicious Fishing Writers Conference. Vicious Fishing Line is a great bunch of guys who are much like Strike King Lure Company in the fact we are small and a pretty close knit group of folks. Alot like a family. Well they brought in some pretty heavy hitters Writer wise and a great group of Pro-Fisherman many of who I have known and a few who I got to know on this trip. All in all a great time was had and we even caught a few fish. I only shot a picture or two........thousand! and even found a couple of Blind Squirrels....(more on that later.)

Blind Squirrel.

Chris Dutton with Vicious is a huge photographer, He makes his living at it while I just blow my living on mine. Anyway, we got into a little backseat competition on jump shots of fish. Everytime I would get one he would see it and call "Blind Squirrel." Well, I can receive it and dish it and believe me I did. He had more Blind squirrels than me but it's all fun and games until someone loses a fish or gets a blurry jump shot.........Enjoy.

So G-Man Gerald Swindle shows up at the Ponderosa and I laughed until I cried and then until I hurt. I only have 2 photo's of him, well only 2 that wont incriminate him anyway due to the camera shake from laughing so dang hard. This guy is hilarious.

Here "G" is fishing with Alan Clemmons and caught "The lake record!!!!" It's a giant G!

Here he is teaching the finer principles of shakey head fishing.......I laughed so hard I forgot what he said. Thanks for the laughs G, that was a blast.

Last but not least is my good buddy Marty Stone of North Carolina. I know Marty through our Bass Cat Boats affiliation and we have become pretty good friends. I shot with Marty one time prior but it was a rush job. This was a little better. Enjoy.

I know, I know, I know..............

It's May 17th and I am trying to figure out where April went. The past 6 weeks have been a blur for me. My last post, well full post was on the Oliver North service at my church, then I packed up all my gear in the "Golden Grocery Getter" (Don't ask) and headed to Lake Norfork in Mt. Home Arkansas for the Bass Cat Boats Owners Invitational. This was an awesome event that lasted for 3 days. I shot over 2000 photos and widdled it down to 600. Check them out as there have been over 1000 visitors to the site and we have raised over $300.00 for the Michelle Short Scholarship Fund and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Portraits, Portraits and more Portraits.........
So before Mothers Day rolled around my Creative Director (My Wife) agreed to have me shoot some portrait shots of her BFF and her BFF's Sister. Not a bad gig for a Saturday morning but you know who pocketed the cash, My Wife, not me. So here are a couple of shots of Shelley and Wendy. Poor Wendy is newly pregnant and lets just say the morning sickness has yet to let up, she was a trooper though as an hour shoot turned into 2 hours. Lots of fun and tons of images.

Had another shoot that afternoon with my Brother and his Wife and their son Cole. His Wife brought along her whole family as well including a dog. Yep, You guessed it, Little Miss "Creative Director" pocketed the check on that one too. That shoot was a blast as well, 6 adults, a 5 month old and 1 dog...a first for me! Those pics are a surprise so we'll skip them on this post. Here's Shelly and Wendy.

We had permission to shoot at Bellevue Baptist here in Memphis. The light in the morning and late evening is awesome. Here we are in the courtyard.

547 teams rolled into the Ramada Inn in Mt. Home, Arkansas tonight for the Bass Cat Boats Owners Invitational slated for this weekend on Lake Norfork. Day one starts early Thursday morning with blast off beginning at 6:30 sharp. The weigh-in will begin at 1:30 for the first flight.

Here is a Dad and his Son getting registered for the tourney and getting ready for day 1 on Thursday. This is what this event is all about. Family. It is so neat to see families, Father & Sons, Fathers & Daughters fishing together, having fun and catching fish!

Colonel Oliver North & Bellevue Loves Memphis.

So this past week and weekend all started with me doing some journalist work for Bellevue Baptist, the church my family and I attend here in Memphis. Bellevue Loves Memphis is a program the church jumps into once a quarter and we send teams out into the city and inner city to help with community projects and to do some spring cleaning. This is truly a cool program. I got to shoot 3 different locations and here are a few pics from my rainy, cloudy & briefly sunny Saturday morning. Enjoy!

This little guy was working with his Dad and a few other guys in a part of town I did not like in the daytime and no way I would be down there at night!

This young lady was 66 years old and proud of it. Of all the folks planting flowers in this part of town she was the only one not wearing gloves, God Love her, she was great.

Here's My "artsy fartsy" shot for the day, this was not set-up, someone actually placed the sign against the shovel and took a break, cue the camera!!!

Celebrators Conference presents Colonel Oliver North

Growing up I remember living in South Fulton, TN and the summer of 1987 I remember turning on the TV everyday and the only thing on it seemed was a hearing of some sort with this Kernel guy and it seemed to go on and on and it really messed up my cartoon watching, I was 11 and cartoons were important to my daily activity. Spring forward 22 years and Kernel North was a guest speaker at Bellevue Baptist Church and yours truly was asked to cover it. Que the remotes!!

So, I knew that during a service like this I needed to be in two places at once. I had originally planned to shoot a remote from the balcony since it was closed off during the service but once I arrived I found out the music dept. already hired a guy to shoot wide shots to shoot mainly the color guard they had in for the service so I chose an alternate route. Within the sanctuary we have dead smack in the middle 2 TV cameras. Not just 2 dinky deals, but these are the big boys you see on the sideline of SEC football in the fall, they count your nose hairs from 30 rows away. Well I found Steve Cowhert the production guy, told him what I wanted to do, he said "Do it!, but stay away from the cameras!" Man!!! So I set-up the remote in between the 2 video cameras and I would love to show you the pic of it had Nimrod here not inadvertently deleted it. Use your imagination!

Here is the shot I was looking for. Nimrod here shot this from the seat where he would be spending the next 2 hours getting tight shots so I wanted this one to get the wider shots. This shot freaked out a bunch of folks. When I walked back to double check the settings after this shot one guy was fixing his hair, or lack of hair and asked me to shoot it again....funny.

This wasn't him but I learned quickly to turn the remote off when the crowd stands up. This is Earl, (That is what I call him) Nice shirt Earl, Hang with me, I will make you a star!

Colonel North is an awesome speaker, It's tough to pay attention to his stories and testimony as I am trying to fire off shots. He moves around alot and had plenty of pics to show us of the war on the big screens.

Colonel North's Testimony was incredible. Honestly, no smoke here, if you ever get to hear him speak you need to, He is really, really good.

Here is the tight shot with the Canon 50D and the 100-400L lens. This 2 camera set-up is really helping me be more efficient. I know they are nothing special but you have to admit it is pretty freaking cool!

Lastly this is probably my favorite shot of the 967 that I shot. Seriously, this one and the the 2 right above it are my favorites. Here Colonel North is towards the end of his talk and he pauses while telling of the letter he leaves for his wife each time he travels back to the war. The letter she is to open only when and if he does not come back alive. You could hear a pin drop and the shutter in my camera clicking away.

The Faithful banner in the background seemed fitting.

Colonel North spoke not on political correctness but more so on Biblical Correctness and the job the Heroes of this great Country are doing overseas. They are the real Heroes to allow us the freedom to do what we can do.

A Day on the Lake with K-Pink

A week or so ago I get a call from my Buddy Kevin Short aka. K-Pink from Arkansas. At the time K-Pink was going through a rough bout of shingles but seemed to be in typical K-Pink mood. He let me know he was going to be spending some time after the Lake Wheeler BASS event at Kentucky Lake and was curious if I was in the mood for a photo shoot. It did not take me long to jump at the chance to:

1. Get my Camera back on the water and finally shoot some more fishing pics.

2. Try out some crazy remote stuff that I had spent way too much time thinking up &

3. Maybe actually get to make a cast for the first time this year.

Well, Check, check and check, I accomplished all three and had a blast doing it. I am still editing but I think Kevin and Kerry will be happy with what I got. Let me know what You think! Be sure and click on the images to make them bigger!

Crazy Remotes.

I knew Kevin and Kerry would be willing to let me try some stuff throughout the day so we jumped right into it right off the bat.

So here is a typical (yeah right) remote on the back of a boat trailer.

Here is the result. Had to add a little but to it in the final editing etc... to get colors right, I think it worked pretty good.

Here we move to the truck to capture another angle. I know stupid.

Not as crazy about this angle. We shot these pretty quick, I will better refine my angle for future shoots.

Still this was pretty cool.

So here is another remote from the water. We mounted the rig to the trolling motor, I wanted to get the trolling motor head into the shot to make it look more realistic.

Here is the initial shot, The fat guy on the right is the reason the boat is leaning that way. Actually,

Kevin just gunned it and turned the wheel but it never helps having the fat guy in the boat in the first place. This was a cool shot and I got excited until.........

The wind from the boat traveling at over 60mph is too much for the clamp and forces the camera almost face down on the front deck. I know. Stupid. But it was fun for the moment.

Now on to the regularly programmed entertainment.

So we got out on the water and I told Kevin to just go fishing and lets see what we can do. If we try and stage stuff it looks staged and therefore is crap. He agreed and off we went. First thing I realized was it was great to be back on the water, next thing is how great it was to be back in a Basscat Boat!! Man I miss my boat!

So we are on the water, 3 minutes tops, go to K-Pinks first stop. BAM! 4 pounder! STRONG!!!!

I snap a few Hero shots and Kevin puts her in the livewell for insurance. Thank goodness he did....

Here are a couple of "Eye of the Tiger" Shots, Kevin was practicing for an upcoming event and I wanted him to act that way. Just because we had some cameras in the boat should not make him feel or act differently and it didn't. I am digging this one.

Here's another. I think I should send these to Costa DelMar!

Next was back to fishing. Here are some creative shots from the back of the boat. Let me know comments.

Another Hero Shot. We had a storm blowing in and the ensuing clouds crapped out my light for the most part. I pumped a bunch in Lightroom but its no better than this.

We did have one small ray of sun blow through and after a brief wardrobe change we got a little action from the fish too.

Next we ran into a friend of mine on the water who helped us out in getting some running shots. It was a little windy that day which made it hard to hold the camera running 70mph but it worked for what we had to deal with.

Lastly, Here is Kevin Short's Rig he is running minus the camper. Kevin and Kerry actually camp at each event carrying a slide-in camper int he bed of the truck. This thing is plush and has all the amenities. K-Pink left and is headed up to Maryland for his next event, If you see him on the highway give them a wave, Heck of some good folks.

Well, that's enough fun for one night. A special thanks to Kevin and Kerry Short for letting come and bug them for a day and shoot pics of them. This was a fun trip and look forward to more. Like I said I am still editing as I shot a ton, These were just a few.

Remote in Detail

Okay, so my last post on the Passion Play was a bit rushed. Here is a little more in depth on the remote camera set-up and some shots. I know, exciting stuff......

So here is the set-up with more detail for you to see the complexity of this deal.

This is my Canon 30D with the 28-135mm lens. The focal point you will see in a minute.

So here is what the shot looked like with Nimrod (me) testing the remote.

The white deal next to me was the focal point. Tony, the MPP Production Dude told me the

basic area where the cross would be, I had to guess on the adjustment. I figured a center focus

point would get me there. I will let you be the judge.

Here is the wide angle shot again, this is from an actual seat on the sanctuary floor. I was firing this one myself and the remote was being fired off with the remote mounted on top of this camera. Shot with the Canon 50D and 100-400mmL "The White Whale"

This is almost the same shot with the remote. Again, I am 150 yards away and had no idea if this would work. I think it did and it did well. This was basically the reason this set-up was mounted where it was. Ths folks at Bellevue liked them and I am set to shoot again before the performances are done. Lets see if I can improve on them.

Memphis Passion Play

If you remember the Singing Christmas Tree program the church I attend, Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis. For Easter they put together a program called the Memphis Passion Play. This is an awesome program and if your in Memphis or close by you need to check this out, go to Bellevue Baptist Church for times and tickets, it is a great deal. Well, last night they gave me the opportunity to shoot the dress rehearsal. Well Nimrod here jumps at the chance and I bring all my gear. I had spoken to the communication folks about some shots where I could mount a remote camera on the catwalk high above the stage to capture some unique shots, especially when Jesus was placed on the cross. I placed one camera there, my old trusty i have shot with for the past 2 years and I took the new one and the big white whale and walked around and shot elsewhere. The remote deal was a first and this thing scared the crap out of me as I had it mounted about 3-1/2 stories above the stage. It was fired off with a wireless remote control called a Pocketwizard. Got the camera mounted and cabled up and walked away, kind of. The catwalk is not a very, lets say "heigth friendly" place. In other words watch your head and bring a flashlight, its a little dark. Here are the pics and commentary.

This is the camera mounted on the Magic arm and cabled to the catwalk with steel cables. This is my Canon 30D with a 28-135mm Canon lens attached. Again, this is my first remote like this so I was scared to death. Oh, did I mention I am scared of heights? not a good time to figure that one out.

Here is the camera with the stage behind or below it. Again shot with the Ole' IPHONE and lit with a beautiful green EverReady flashlight. Notice the pocketwizard remote on the top of the camera, that's the business end of this deal.

Hey look its Nimrod! Here is a shot of me testing out the remote. This was about an hour before rehearsal so it was quiet enough I could hear the camera shutter go off. I tried to shoot from this point looking up but could not see the camera due to it being black and the lack of light on the catwalk.

So obviously alot took place before this scene as Jesus is crucified on the cross. This is the shot from the balcony actually about 150 yards away with the Canon 50D and the white whale.

Here's the shot with the remote camera. Pretty stinkin' cool huh.

The remote was set at a port on the catwalk almost directly above the stage. Looking back Nimrod here forgot to shot a wide shot from behind to show you the layout.

About 40 yards back from the remote was another port or drop in the catwalk to a lower level where all the main lighting was set-up. I chose not to set the remote here because this location I could access during the performance, the remote spot I could not. Here is the shot from the 2nd port with me sitting between several very warm lights.

This is the part where the guard tells his guy "Make sure he's dead" in the manly guard voice so the guard spears his side, Hard to see here but on the high res version you can see the blood splatter. It's not real blood!

This was also shot from the 2nd location handheld. The remote was focused on the back 1/3rd of the stage and for only the cross shots basically. This shot is of the "demon girl" that Jesus removes the demon from, she then sang a beautiful solo. I followed her around the stage and then she looked up, I think I scared her at first as she was not expecting to see someone up there but I thought this shot was cool. Oh, nice pedicure job by the way, had no idea they painted toe nails back in those times......

He Arose! Hallelujah Christ Arose!

What an awesome moment in a Christians Life, to know that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, was buried and 3 days later rose from the grave. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

This was one of those shots you just had to shoot. Moses checking his email. Too funny. Notice the IPHONE in his hand, he might have been using an app to find dinner for later, who knows.

Spring has sprung...Almost

Dumping cards for shoots for this weekend and next week I came across a card that still had some images on it of my son from last summer. I had borrowed an under water bag from the video dept of my "real" job for a project that ended up being a bust. This however was not. Scared to death to get my camera submerged in the first place I prayed and then went for it in this underwater bag. Here is some of the result without really trying. Back from Sea World, Disney and Dinner with a fish, a BIG Fish!!

So I am back from the vacation with the Family and man what a blast! Spent 2 days at Disney and then a day and half at Sea World and a half day lounging in the pool at the hotel, well as much lounging as you can do with a hyper 4 year old who swims like a fish! Here are some pics and comments on the trip. Enjoy......

Okay, So I started this Blog last Tuesday (the 24th) and 1 week later I am finishing it up. Crazy deal and crazy week. Sorry......

Here's the crew, well 1/2 the crew, I'm always behind the black thing called a camera and wife is always making sure she is no where to be seen during the actual shots of the camera.

So our first stop was Sea World, Its almost Lunch, She's hungry, tired and trying to figure out why I keep taking pictures of her......

This is the "Dad if I could talk I would tell you what you can do with your camera" look.

She is going to hate me when she gets older......grin.

Here are some Dolphins we swam with.......kidding, Actually, we walked by the underwater observatory around feeding time, apparently it makes em' happy.

Next was the headless Penguin exhibit......Ahhhhh! Actually they said this one was sleeping. Yeah right.

Here's the shark tank, this was cool and the shot was achieved by me holding a 1 year old in one arm (no strollers allowed) and basically just holding the camera down below my waist with my other hand and hoping I get something usable. My inlaws think I am nuts!

I Have no idea who the lady in the straw hat is. You can see the shark to upper right. Big shark!

Next was Shamu's world. We went to Sea World twice during the week.

On our second trip we set up a deal called "Diner with Shamu." If you ever go, look into this as this is a cool deal. You sit poolside with the trainers around and Shamu. They bring him pretty close to you as you will see by the following pics. This one is Caden eating and Shamu as well.

My what a BIG NOSE you have......

This Whale was shot with the big white whale ( Earlier post) but anyway, these guys are huge and absolutely amazing. Dinner with Shamu was cool, oddly enough there was not fish on the menu......

We also spent 2 days at the old Magic Kingdom, Had a blast with the other 2 million folks who were there and the entire province of Ontario, I swear!

This is a very creative and dangerous shot, its the ole' hold the very expensive New camera and NEW lens out in front of you while your 4 year old drives a car on rails on a bumpy road, aim and fire! Scary stuff as Mario Andrussi motors around the course, this kid will be in transportation somewhere someday.

Last but not least, Here is Sarah Bailey waiting for Brother to get off another ride. I swear she woke up and saw the camera and got mad, She knew I had been snapping pics of her.

Well, thanks for following the Brown family vacation. We had a blast and these were only a snapshot of the 800 or so I shot! Seriously!

So I'm 33 today, yep I admit it, the BIG 33, whoopee!!! Hey that rhymes! I'm a poet and don't know it.
Okay, seriously. I am in Florida for a much needed family vacation. This adventure started Friday in a Hyundai Sonata. 4 of us and all our stuff, all of it! in a Sonata.........I don't do well in tight spaces......But I made it. Now we are in a "new to me" Chrysler mini-van and feel like we're in a limo compared to the Sonata, did I mention I don't do tight spaces well?

Space Shuttle? In Florida?

So, we're in Florida and the guy on the radio tells me that the Space Shuttle is taking off at 7:43pm tonight. So, I punch in Cape Canaveral into the ol' GPS and BAM I'm 2 hours away. A little quick calculation and guess what! I can't make it in time. So, I do what the rest of Leesburg, Florida did, walked outside the house, looked to the east and there she was, The Space Shuttle in all her fiery glory, Here's a pic, honest! Seriously, I am 100 Miles away and dude on the news said, "WE HAVE LIFT OFF" and there she was, 100 miles away and climbing fast. My 4 year old loved it, my 1 year old was asleep, It lasted 3 minutes tops........... So we move on.

Livin' on a lake.

So we are spending a day or two with my Wife's Aunt and Uncle in Leesburg, Florida and then heading down to Orlando to see Mickey and his pals. Bill and Birdie live on a lake, a small lake but a lake. They have a lake, I have a camera, coincidence? I think not, like a fish to water, I meet Mr. Bird. Had about 5 minutes before dinner and Mr. Bird was cruising the bank looking for supper. I snapped a few. Enjoy!

So whats a birthday without a cake?

Well, We made a stop off at my parents house in Georgia on the way down. (the whole Sonata vs. Mini-van saga mentioned earlier.) Anyway, Mom makes the best birthday cakes ever! seriously! and I am still enjoying that one while on the road. Gretchen's Aunt Birdie thought since I was staying here on my Birthday that she would join in the fun as well. Nothing like a bunch of Jelly Bean topped chocolate cupcakes!!!!! Here is my 4 year old giving me a hand with the candles and then cup cakes. Thanks Bro!

Oops is right! One reason to always have a camera strap!

Okay, So maybe I have'nt always been a big proponent of camera straps but I am now!!! I had just pulled the new 50D off the tripod and was asked to take some shots in our warehouse of some mislabeled product. (I know real exciting stuff) Anyway, one quick turn, one slight of the hand and BAM!!!!!!! New camera on the ground, old lens in about 14 pieces, I did not chalk the area but wish I had now. (that would have been a cool pic) Anyway, luckily for me the camera is A-ok but this lens is a goner. Bad scratch on the front element internally and enough messed up wiring to make me sick. Anyway, here is a lesson to you kiddo's to always have your neck strap on your neck or wrapped around your wrist. This made me sick!

K-Pink's Chartreuse Softball

Throughout my short photography career, experiment, hobby, whatever you want to call this thing I am doing, I have had the opportunity to shoot some kids, babies, families, neat folks, weird folks and some super cool folks. I reserve Kevin Short as one of the neat, weird, cool ones. Having the opportunity to shoot the Basscat Catalog and some of thier events I have gotten to know Kevin and Kerry Short pretty well. Straight outta Arkansas with his pink shirts, pink crankbait key chains (which I have 2 of) pink boat wraps and custom pink Costa Delmar sunglasses, I noticed something one day while shooting Kevin during an event that struck me as odd, almost out of place.

On both his jersey and the windshield of his Basscat boat Kevin wears a Chartreuse colored softball with the number 13 in it. He does this in honor of his late Daughter Michelle Short who was killed in March of 2004 in an automobile accident at 19 years old. I have never talked to Kevin and Kerry about it, but each time I see them they ask about my family and especially my kids. My Daughter turned one this week, My son is 4.

I never met Michelle, but my heart aches for Kevin and Kerry each time I hear or read a story about them. Good friend and Basscat Boats President Rick Pierce called me today to check on a few things and I gave him an idea to ponder and he did and responded quickly. During this years Basscat Boats Owners event I will shoot and post a gallery of images of anlgers and thier families on my Zenfolio site for purchase and printing. All proceeds that may come from the sale of those images and prints will be directed to the Michelle Short Scholarship fund at the University of Central Arkansas. We will also give a portion of the proceeds to the Cystic Fibrosis foundation for research. We do this to honor Michelle.

Why did I write this blog, one because I have kids and I could never imagine the thought of losing either one of them that early in life. When I came across this picture today in the archives and spoke to Rick I thought about my kids and Michelle and Kevin and Kerry and wanted to share this with you. If you have kids you will understand.

TSR Autograph Card for Bryan Schmidt

Here is a autograph card that Texas Sidewinder Rods had me build for their Pro-Staffer Bryan Schmidt who qualified to fish the Bassmasters Classic this year in Shreveport. I have not shown off much of the creative stuff I do like this and the print ads etc.. I have created, this is 2nd most fun I have after shooting the pics. Its always cool to see the shots you take fall into place on something like this. This is actually version 2 that got updated after using some of the images that we shot at the Classic. Apologies are in order for not updating more last week while I was in Shreveport for the BassMasters Classic. One night I did'nt sleep and stayed awake for 22 hours straight for no odd reason and was plainly worn out all week and weekend. Finally got the pics uploaded and worked on and most of them turned out pretty good. Here is a small sampling from day one when I followed Texas Sidewinder Pro Bryan Schmidt around. This was Bryan's first Classic and he proved he is a Professional Angler by finishing 6th among the big boys. Bryan showcased a TSR Boat wrap this week and these were pics for Randy and Dorothy with TSR to use. If you remember a few posts ago I showed some logo work and image work I had done for them.

Okay, More to come each day this week but here is a little update to keep you interested. Did some product shots in the studio this week to show off some mew products for my "real" job at Strike King Lures. This is a new product called the Sexy Swimmer that we just introduced. This is a pretty neat bait that we are excited about that should make for some really good pictures of fish later on this year.
