At the bottom of this page, you can get a free download of one of the album’s tracks. But, I wanted to take a moment, first, to write about why you might want to buy the album instead–and all the bonus items you’ll get for helping out.

Why It’s A Good Cause
I don’t want to belabor the point with a lot of horror stories here. Put simply, all of the profit from the album goes to Oxfam’s Community Aid Abroad program. The group has been providing aid in East Timor, which has the lowest standard of living in all of Asia.

Why It’s A Good Album
There are 15 tracks in total–including two (!) rockabilly tunes, an acoustic song about Poughkeepsie from Over The Rhine, a Czech song that sounds like a drunken pirate singalong, an operatic metal track that the Journal-Gazette claimed “ups Queen and Megadeth’s respective antes with such ludicrous brilliance that it justifies buying the album on its own,” an a capella cover of George Michael’s “I Want Your Sex,” and the aptly-titled “Do Something” by the Smoking Popes–which NPR selected as their song of the day.

The Stuff You’ll Get With The Album
To entice folks to take a chance on the album–I pulled some strings and piled together a bunch of related (and unrelated) bonuses to go along with it.

*Maslove CD – This is a curious concept album about love. It comes in a pretty sharp-looking, gold-foil sleeve and sounds a bit like one of those spoken word, romantic interludes that show up between songs on a Janet Jackson album. But, instead of lasting 30 seconds, it goes on for 40 minutes.

*Workout Songs: Volume I CD – This is the most recent compilation I’ve put together. There are a zillion dance workout albums. But, I thought it might be fun to make an indie one. So, I found dozen indie bands and solo acts, from a variety of genres, asked each to contribute one of their faster songs, then brought in a DJ to turn it into a 30 minute continuous mix. In all, it’s more like an uptempo mixtape than a workout album. So, if you don’t exercise, you might still find a use for it.

*Alone On A Bridge – A friend of mine published this book of poetry, only to find that no one really buys books of poetry. But, I liked it! So, I asked if we could give out a few with the benefit disc.

*Onan CD – I know that calling something an “erotic instrumental album” probably reads like a typo. But, I don’t know how else to describe this one. There’s no singing or anything. But, hearing it always makes me feel like I stumbled onto the set of Basic Instinct.

*The Sound Of Your Breath Still CD – This is an angular, screamy punk album. I put it out on my label years ago and it bombed. But, the artwork on the disc is pretty nice. (It’s just a little black and white drawing of a tree, on a hill, at night.) Anyway, I’m going to include two copies of this. I don’t think you’ll want to listen to them, per se. The audience for this kind of music is pretty limited. But, with a matched pair of the discs, you can always use them as coasters.
