I have been designing a new website for myself, so therefore I have not been out much lately. But my efforts will pay off and save me lots of money each month by not having to pay for a Livebooks site, they are a great company, and have many designs to choose from, but a little too pricy for the starving artist.

And because I missed the last few days of posting to the Blog, here is my trip to the grocery store,

and local bike shop. Dang, got some new fenders!

Note to self: More Depth of field is often a good thing, but you cant beat f-1.4 in low light.

New Photo-A-Day project

I have decided to once again embark upon a Photo-A-Day project. The last one lost much of its steam after about 6 weeks (even though it was a school assignment, sorry Christine) but I'm hoping that this one will go better. Now being done with school and living in Minneapolis MN my motivation is seeing new light. Also know as my 365 in 2011 project I hope that I will be taking and posting at least one photograph every single day to this here blog and facebook.

My current goals for photographs, being in a big city with no Lake Superior, Hogsback, Sugarloaf, (I miss you Marquette) Biking, Hiking, Climbing, and adventures in the woods, is to create a more elaborate series of portraits. A warning to all you who I often see in the Twin Cities, you will be in front of the lens often.

For day one, I started off with with a series I have been thinking on for some time now, a series of portraits of bicycles and those who love them most. Many people in Minneapolis ride in no matter what the conditions, Day or Night, 70 degrees or even -7. After getting a little too frustrated with the wind blowing my light stand over, even though it was anchored, we decided to go for a re-shoot at a later date.

The only one that turned out semi usable photo that turned out from today.

Today was the first day of my last semester of school. And I wish all college students a happy syllabus week. It was also the start of the photo-a-day assignment. Last semester I concentrated strictly on outdoor extreme sports. The most difficult aspect to shooting outdoor extreme sports is matching my schedule with those I am photographing. Although when there were times that schedules worked and I was able to go shoot things worked out well. Especially when I was able to have the assistance of my assistant and hair stylist who is a good friend of mine. But if I am to create a photo a day then I will need to expand to things other than sports. Although outdoor adventure/extreme sports is by far my favorite subject to capture there is constant constraints to that specific subject. So after finishing class for the day I reached out for anyone who would allow me to photograph them. Luckily I was able to get ahold of someone for a long enough to capture a few frames.

Went out with my bag of goodies knowing only that I wanted to be somewhere outside. Drove around town and ended up at tourist park, searched for a good spot and here is what resulted. Found some children's playground equipment, set things up, and started shooting.

Shot this one with a single off camera flash (canon 580 EXII) shot through a lastolite Ezybox hotshoe. Flash was set to 1/4 power. Camera was at F-8, 1/125 and ISO 400

Good Intentions isn't enough

Almost a year ago is when I first started up this blog. But for some reason a year ago those good intentions seemed to be all that I had, intentions. So almost a year later I am now into my last semester of this thing we call college and I am reaching for ideas as to how to spread the word of my craft. So time to start this off fresh again for the new year to go along with my new web site. www.chrisworlow.com if you would like to check it out (cause you might as well if your reading this).

And just a heads up, this post is a preface to the one I will be posting up soon after this.

This semester the all mighty Christine Flavin has assigned to our BFA Seminar the photo a day. Along with many other things things that I hope will push me to my breaking point and then beyond. Because if I am not out trying to progress then I will be quickly fall into the rut of creating the same thing over and over.

So thats all I have to say for now except to ask anyone who is reading this to do me a favor. If you have an opinion (which everyone does) please share it with me. If it good comments I say thank you, but no one grows from continual pats on the back, and if you think what I am putting up is garbage say so. But do remember that just saying "it sucks" does not do anything for anyone, even you. So along with the "it sucks" of you own words please follow it with any suggestions you may have for me.

So this is my first foray into the world of the Blog. I never before considered creating one of my very own blogs. But I have decided to take a swing at this for my own. So how to start this thing off. Well here is a little about myself. I am a student at Northern Michigan University studying photography(currently). The thing I enjoy the most in this world currently is the act of photographing things in Nature. Not just pretty flowers, trees, and sunsets but things of the more active sort. So one of the main things I am going to post on is my adventures in where I photograph in the out-of-doors.
