Gamasutra reports that the Vancouver Film School offers a $49,250 scholarship to girls who are into video games, and who wish to attend its Game Design program. The video games industry is dominated by males but female graduates form the Game Design program have gone on to work in well known gaming titles. Other companies that provide scholarships for boys and girls into video game design, and everyone passionate about games, include G4TechTV ($7,000), Radical Entertainment ($2,500), Slant Six Games ($2,500), Annex Pro ($2,000), and BigPark ($1,000).

23-year-old Wade McGilberry from Mobile, Alabama, won a million dollars playing Take-Two Interactive Software's "Major League Baseball 2K10." Take-Two offered the $1 million prize to the first person to pitch a perfect game. In a perfect game, no batter from the other team ever scores or reaches a base. That means no hits, no walk and no getting on base because he is hit by a pitch or for any other reason. It is among the rarest feats in all sports. And "MLB 2K10" tries to simulate real baseball as closely as possible with the player sitting on the couch.

McGilberry said that when he bought the game, his wife suggested that he take the day off work so he could get a head start on the competition. "I thought about it (and) the responsible thing to do was to go to work," he said. When he came home, he set up a video recording, started playing and achieved the perfect game after "five or six attempts."

Meredith Molinari gamer girl

Meredith Molinari is the host of the PlayStation Network's reality TV show The Tester. In an interview with USA Today, Molinari says: "I don't necessarily have as much time to dedicate to video games as I'd like but when I play I do love to play. I definitely run the gamut of all different types of games I like to play. But after seeing (The Tester contestants), these guys are real gamers. This is their life. They are serious about their games. But I love to play and I love the culture."

Meredith worked in Ubisoft's booth at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo and served as a model for an upcoming Bandai/Namco game. Over The Tester's eight-week run, contestants are evaluated in physical and mental challenges, individually and in teams. Molinari says, "Final Fantasy was probably the first game that I played as a kid and I got lost in it."
