Cat. Lords Day 5,6

POINTS TO PONDER Pulling Together
Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

If someone ever calls you a goose, chances are it isn’t a compliment! But there is just one area of Christian life where being a bit of a goose is actually a good thing. Some of us may have observed geese flying in a V formation. They do so because it makes it easier for the whole flock. The lead goose bears the brunt of the wind resistance thus making for easier flying for others. When the lead goose is tired, another goose takes its place. So flying as a group enables them to get to their destination in better shape than if they flew off as individuals.

And so we come to the Christian church, which is called the body of Christ but could also be likened to a flock of geese (much less profound and far less flattering!). We each can play a part in the church getting to where it is intended to be: a group of mature Christians honouring God and loving each other and making the world a better place to be. If we tried to grow up into Jesus as mere individuals, it would be so much harder. And God hasn’t intended it that way.

Paul says in this passage that we each have a gift, or an ability to serve God and others. This ability, together with the various abilities of others, helps us grow individually and corporately. We can waste much time trying to figure out our gift. Better to see such gifts as abilities given by God, when needed, to help us follow his ways. Rather than asking God what gift we might have, it might be better to ask God to equip us to obey him. However he equips us becomes our gift. And that gift can vary from day to day according to how God wants us to obey him.

No one is useless in the church. We need each other. We can’t fly solo without dropping with exhaustion. Only as we travel together can we arrive at our destination.

David Reay from a daily devotion, called "Lifewords", that comes from the Christian radio station, Hope 103.2.

Today 1/2/09
Come and join us today and find out how you too can be
Rescured and Set Free.

9.30 A.M
Serman "Rescued & Set Free"Text: Romans 7:24-8:2

5P.M. AND APPLY !!!!!
In writing on the Heidelberg Catechism Lord's Day 23
(and what a brilliant gospel summary that is !)
Rev Herman Hoeksema writes the following in his book
"The Triple Knowledge" ( see Q/A 2).
He is discussing the christian's dual awareness of their sin
(including its sad continuation) and of God's redeeming work
in Christ applied in the heart, mind and life of the believer.
In other words he is discussing 2 of the 3 things we must know
to live and die in the joy of the comfort of the gospel ;;;
1. How great our sin and misery is; and 2. How we are set free
from all our sins and misery.(Q/A 1)
He writes "these two witnesses, the one of our natural conscience,
the other of our liberated conscience in the Spirit of Christ,
are not of equal value and power. The justified believer does not say:
I am both righteous and unrighteous, acquitted and condemned,
worthy of eternal death and an heir of eternal life.
On the contrary, the verdict of justification,
wrought by the Spirit of Christ, through the gospel,
in his heart, is completely victorious, overcomes, transcends,
swallows up the accusing testimony of his natural conscience.
Standing before the tribunal of the sole Judge of heaven and earth,
by faith, he declares: 'Though I have sinned and do sin,
YET I am perfectly righteous before the judgement seat of God.'...
The deep reason for this victory of faith is that it clings
to God Who justifies the ungodly.
Justification is the forgiveness of sins.
It is the adoption unto sons of God."
The glorious gospel truth expressed in Lord's Day 23 is fuel
for the fire of the 3rd thing we must know to live and die in
the joy of gospel comfort ..3. How we are to thank God for
such deliverance.
May we all enter into what it really means to rejoice in the
Lord and to live accordingly!!

Our New Pastor

Our New Pastor has arrived and has completly settled into his new home with his wife Sandy. It was decided that a luncheon be held after the morning service on Sunday 18th May as this is the official finishing date for our pastor.
The congregation is asked to remain behind for this luncheon, so that we as a congregation can
take this opportunity of saying our goodbyes and thanks for seven years faithful service to us and to express our best wishes for Werner and Yolindi's future in Toowoomba (and the kids).
A collection box will be placed in the foyer for anyone who would like to make
a donation to the present that we as a congregation will be giving to the Viljoen family.
The Ladies Fellowship will be organising the luncheon and anyone who would like to suggest an item or participate in the entertainment or speeches segment of the luncheon please contact COM.

Sadly You are leaving. We'll miss you and your family.

Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ,
As many of you may know, it is hard to express the emotions that go through one's mind during times of considering a call to move on and serve in another congregation. We stand in awe and gratitude before the Lord for the way He has blessed us in the almost 7 years here in the Christian Reformed Church of St Marys. We are extremely grateful for the way that this body of Christ has received and made us part of the family here in more than just the normal way. The brothers and sisters here also filled the void of the family we left behind in South Africa when we moved here, in a wonderful way and words can never express our sincere appreciation. For this, we are sure; there will always be a special bond between us.
However, the Lord has given us peace with the decision to accept the call that the Toowoomba congregation has extended to us. May the Lord in His goodness and faithfulness lead the right man to come and serve this wonderful church family in St Marys.

From Pastor Werner

Bikes For Bibles

Rides for 2008

Bike for Bibles are rides organized to raise much needed funds for various Bible Society Mission Projects here in Australia and around the World.
