Coaching Niche:

Average number of clients you serve each month:

What is your favorite thing about being a Christian Coach?

I love to simply “be”, meaning, being a coach really isn’t “doing,” it’s “being.” I am able to be present with someone, drop into her story with her/him, ask powerful questions, and watch her true authentic self come alive. I love not knowing where the sessions will take the client, and it’s exciting to be a part of his awareness and growth.

Who is your ideal client?

I coach parents – mostly moms – who just need a break. They’re overwhelmed and secretly feel guilty for not enjoying every moment. I help them make time for themselves, do things they love, and handle hard situations with confidence so they can become the kind of parent (and person) they’ve always wanted to be.

What inspired you to become a Christian Coach?

When my husband passed away in 2015, I found myself stuck. I hired Jennie to coach me and with her skilled coaching, I was able to gain insight and hear God’s design for my life.

What led you to choose to study through the Christian Coaching School?

Jennie was my coach, and I was so impressed by her natural ability and skills to presence with me in my vulnerability and a very difficult time. It was such a life-changing experience, that I knew that coaching was something I was always meant to do in my life. Christian Coaching School is a credible coaching school, but most of all, Jennie is extremely knowledgeable and professional.

What was your favorite part about the program and why?

Honestly, I looked forward to every single class! My favorite part was coaching a client, recording it, and reviewing the coaching sessions with Jennie.

How did you change as a person as a result of going through coach training with CCS?

I would say that now I approach life and people with curiosity, authenticity, and love….rather than as someone who fixes, advises, and judges.

What do you find yourself holding on to from your training with CCS all these months/years later?

The reminder to come into a session with the posture of honoring where the client is, and trusting the Lord to take the layers off. All I have to do is be curious and ask questions, and defer to their way of getting to where they need to be.

What would you tell an individual who is thinking of training with CCS but isn’t sure if they are ready to take the plunge?

I would tell them to talk with Jennie and read the testimonials. I would tell them that CCS is a life-changing experience and an excellent coaching program. They will only gain from this program!

What is your favorite thing about being a Christian Coach?

I get to live out my calling to be a listener and create safe spaces for people to share their hearts! I’ve always been told that I ask good questions and am easy to talk to – and in being a coach, I get to do that, PLUS help people become more of who they were created to be. It feels like being the best possible version of myself – in order to do some of the most important work I can do in the world.

I’d known for a long time that I’m a great friend and relationship builder. But being a great friend isn’t a job (at least I never found a job opening on LinkedIn!), and I felt incredibly angsty about not knowing what my purpose was beyond being a mom. When I heard about coaching, I realized that it’s exactly what I love doing: listening well to people, building relationships with them, and asking them powerful questions to help them uncover what growth they’re being invited into. A light bulb went off! I had everything it took, with the gifts I’d been exercising since kindergarten, to learn to be a great coach.

What led you to choose to study through the Christian Coaching School?

My dear friend, Ellen Hoffman, trained with Christian Coaching School, and recommended the program to me. Being able to visit a class after speaking with Jennie after a consult helped me to feel like it was a kind of place where I could be at ease being myself, being vulnerable, and learning and growing alongside others.

What was your favorite part about the program and why?

I loved getting to see Jennie coach us, live. I was amazed at how it only took a few minutes for her to get to the heart of the matter with people that she was just getting to know. It helped me to see how a skilled coach can serve others in such a meaningful way by helping them go places they might otherwise be afraid to explore, and drawing out ideas that left them feeling excited, freer, and more confident.

How did you change as a person as a result of going through coach training with CCS?

As a natural listener and question-asker, it was SO humbling to get specific feedback and gentle corrections in these two areas. It was greatly freeing to realize it was okay to make mistakes, and that I was strong enough to receive correction and be teachable.

What do you find yourself holding on to from your training with CCS all these months/years later?

One of the things I hold onto is really believing in my clients, seeing the best of them, and encouraging them to see themselves with gentle care.

What would you tell an individual who is thinking of training with CCS but isn’t sure if they are ready to take the plunge?

If you’re on the fence, I’d encourage you to observe a class if you can and see if you can picture yourself there! I’m also happy to answer questions about my experience if it would help you: charissa@braveselfcare.com

Christian Coaching School Graduation Year:

2018

Coaching Niche:

I help women to push past defeat and pursue their goals by tackling the root of what is holding them back, so that they can feel empowered to walk out change that lasts.

Average number of clients you serve each week:

I choose to take an average of 2 clients per month for the time being, while I continue to teach elementary school full-time and make preparations for launching mentoring services for inner-city youth. As you can see, there are several facets of this dream on my heart to accomplish, much of which have only just begun!

What is your favorite thing about being a Christian Coach?

I love the premise that God initiates the change in those whom we serve. As a Christian Coach I come without an agenda, judgment-free, and ready to listen with discernment about where to direct the conversation and bring to light the a-ha’s that have been overlooked just below the surface.

Who is your ideal client?

My ideal client is the woman tired of looking in the mirror and feeling like she’s not enough – for that calling, for relationships, and for God. For far too long, I was that girl, without the confidence to grow and step into the fullness of who I’m meant to be. Does it appear like you’re making gains in a few areas of life, but carrying around a damaged self-concept within, feeling overwhelmed, insecure, or often giving up on new aspirations before even trying? My heart is to believe in your potential and help pull out the answers God has planted deep down inside of you about how to break the mental habits that are stealing your joy.

What inspired you to become a Christian Coach?

I’ve always been that friend ready to listen and offer encouragement at the drop of a hat. I’ve also made my share of mistakes I’ve had to overcome and lessons I’ve had to learn along the way. Seeing women who look like me be written-off either by those around them, or by dismissing themselves of ever being capable or worthy of realizing their goals because of who they are or what they’ve done, fueled me to do so much more. I needed to build bridges for others in the way that bridges had been built for me. The grassroots of a vision to serve my community beyond the four walls of the classroom dropped into my lap only two months into my teaching career. I knew that in order to be prepared for the transition, I needed formal training with proven strategies on how to guide my clients through discovering what holds them back from finding the contentment they desire.

What led you to choose to study through the Christian Coaching School?

As a born-again believer in Jesus, my pursuit is always to view my clients through the eyes of Christ. I wanted my foundational certification to be attained where method and theory go hand-in-hand with biblical truths. To be honest, at the time I didn’t even know what coaching was or how it differs from therapy. As I began to do more research, there was something about Christian Coaching School that was drawing me in beyond all others. I’m no believer in coincidence, so I decided to take a mini-dive and book a consult call. My initial consultation with Jennie sealed the deal. At that time I was still trying to figure out how I fit into this new venture God was nudging me to start. There were so many unknowns, and I felt incapable of getting started – whatever that meant. Jennie put me at ease and confirmed that these aspirations were valid. Her confidence and care let me know that I’d be in good hands. I knew it would be the first step to so much more, and I am getting to see the fruit of that decision now. Jennie, I am forever grateful!

What was your favorite part about the program and why?

My favourite part of the program was the amount of live interaction, and the opportunity to develop our skills through practicum. Every coaching model taught and practised was first modeled live or through unscripted, pre-recorded sessions. Practising our skills on each other in such a safe space gave us a real sense of the coaching experience both as a coach and as a client. We got to see and experience first-hand how to work through roadblocks and get our clients back on-track.

How did you change as a person as a result of going through coach training with CCS?

Training with CCS gave me the confidence to launch into the business realm with the training and certification needed to develop giftings I hadn’t yet fully tapped into. Not only that, but the skills gained within the program have made me a much more empathic and discerning listener, and an overall better friend!

What do you find yourself holding on to from your training with CCS all these months/years later?

Since my training with CCS, I keep coming back to the importance of believing in the client by asking instead of telling and listening instead of giving advice. The training I received taught me that I can rest in God’s faithfulness to speak to the hearts of those He allows me to serve, and to provide the insight required for me to nurture them along the road to stewardship over their own lives. A coach is not there to fix, but to support in the process of becoming.

What would you tell an individual who is thinking of training with CCS but isn’t sure if they are ready to take the plunge?

The investment was worth every penny. If you’re like me and you’re not into deep dives head-first, try a consult call. Come with your questions and the curiosity needed to consider how training with CCS can take you that next step forward. Register that business and claim those expenses! Do whatever you need to do to remove the barriers between you and the dreams you’ve been longing to walk out in the flesh. I’m living proof that it’s worth it.

Coaching Niche:

My niche in coaching is female Christian leaders stuck in their journey to wholeness and health.

What is your favorite thing about being a Christian Coach?

My favorite thing about being a Coach is the surprise at every session of how personal and gentle God is in bringing transformation and guidance to my clients. The things the Lord brings to the client to restore their balance, perspective and wholeness is always exciting and new. It’s nothing I could come up with, suggest or advise them to do on my own. I am convinced of the power of coaching and the method it employs to affect lasting change because it all hinges on expecting God to show up on behalf of my client-and He always does!

Who is your ideal client?

A high capacity leader already activating success in a lot of areas but has a particular area that she’s never gotten lasting success in, and maybe accepts as “just the way it is”. My client suspects there is freedom and wholeness available but doesn’t know how to get it.

What inspired you to become a Christian Coach?

My sister is a Coach. She loves it and had been telling me for years that I would love it. I think I misunderstood the core mechanism of Coaching to be similar to mentoring, which has a marginal success track record and didn’t seem exciting to me. I finally decided to trust my sister and give it a try. I was blown away at the way God met my personal hesitations and concerns. Coaching 100% lines up with my desire to be a facilitator to the Lord’s work (a bystander so to speak).

What led you to choose to study through the Christian Coaching School?

Several people I know, trust, and respect had gone through CCS. I’m a big believer in letting others do the hard work of researching and discovering and then sharing the information.

What was your favorite part about the program and why?

I liked the format of the classes and the trainers were knowledgeable and experienced, but most importantly, God totally changed ME through the process!

How did you change as a person as a result of going through coach training with CCS?

I feel that I’m literally a different person after going through the training. I have a lot of experience already in pastoring, leading, running a non-profit, etc., but personally my life was not showing much transformation or evidence of continued growth. I’ve become a more engaged, empathetic listener. I am deeply curious about others. I lean in to hear others. I have experienced personal transformation (including losing over 50lbs) and continue to set and knock out goals. The momentum I’m experiencing in my life right now is nothing short of miraculous.

What do you find yourself holding on to from your training with CCS all these months/years later?

Curiosity – having curiosity for others. That one simple thing has assisted me in grace and less judgment towards myself and others. It has positioned my heart to be able to receive from the Lord in new ways.

What would you tell an individual who is thinking of training with CCS but isn’t sure if they are ready to take the plunge?

Do it! The Christ-centered approach is unique to coaching schools. You will leave feeling confident in your ability to assist others towards healing, and you will grow so much yourself! Don’t wait.

Coaching Niche:

My niche in coaching is women who feel lost in the chaos of life; stuck in the mundane who long for a deeper relationship with Jesus and others. I have personal experience in healing from adultery and divorce and finding hope in what feels hopeless.

Average number of clients you serve each week:

On average I see 15 clients a week. Some come weekly and some alternate weeks depending on their needs.

What is your favorite thing about being a Christian Coach?

My favorite thing about being a Christian Coach is teaming with the The Holy Spirit and creating a safe space for Him to move, direct and heal. I’m smiling as I write this because it truly is a delight for me to watch this happen…weekly!

Who is your ideal client?

Originally, I had planned to work with only women. Since starting I have expanded to woman and young teen girls who are hurting. If you feel lost and need someone to spur you on in love through the valley toward God’s amazing plan for your life, I’m your gal! Brokenness without hope is my favorite place to start. God sees you and has a plan to bring you through.

What inspired you to become a Christian Coach?

In 2015 I was a complete mess, a second important relationship had ended in unfaithfulness. I felt unworthy, ugly and convinced that life might never get better. While talking with my local pastor he told me that he had personally started seeing a life coach. To be honest, I thought it sounded strange, but I left intrigued. When I got home I Googled (Christian Life Coach) and Jennie’s name popped up. With nervous hands and lump in my throat I filled out the contact information. To sum up a very long story, I coached with Jennie for over a year and a half. During that journey God spoke through my Life Coach truths that came straight from His Word. That became the baseline of who I was and later shaped what I wanted to be for others as my career. I am a personal testimony of what Christian Coaching can do, and I am forever grateful for the ministry Jennie leads. (Thank you, Jennie!!!)

What led you to choose to study through the Christian Coaching School?

I chose CCS because Jennie was my personal Life Coach, and I wanted to learn to do what I had experienced in our individual sessions.

What was your favorite part about the program and why?

My favorite part of the journey was the relationships I made with my classmates. I still talk weekly with a fellow graduate, Lisa Bellaire. We take turns coaching each other weekly. She is a treasured mentor and friend that I might never had met outside of CCS. Lisa lives in North Carolina, and I am from California.

How did you change as a person as a result of going through coach training with CCS?

I experienced the most growth in how I’ve learned to listen and ask good questions that can go deeper into what a client is feeling. The Lord has helped me see that outside of me He is fully capable of revealing to the client what is at the root of their concern. Pressing into their story and walking beside clients an honor and CCS taught me how to do that by following modules designed to allow clients to find their own answers. I can remember being corrected (lovingly) not to lead my clients but to allow them to find the answers they already know inside of their hearts. My job is to encourage, support and listen and watch The Lord do the rest.

What do you find yourself holding on to from your training with CCS all these months/years later?

Oh my, what I find myself holding onto all these years later is that it’s not about me. It’s all about the client, putting their needs as the priority. Listening without leading and loving without judgment the way Jesus listens and loves us.

What would you tell an individual who is thinking of training with CCS but isn’t sure if they are ready to take the plunge?

If someone has been on the fence about taking this leap and getting certified as a Christian Life Coach is…GO FOR IT!!! If something in you keeps knocking at your heart with “what if I went for it” I would say…it will be the best investment of your career! You never know what the next 365 days hold for you. What if you are the exact answer that someone right now is praying for? That gets me excited!
