We all know about God, Jesus and the Bible, but how does that translate into action in the everyday? Is there a Christian approach to how to vote in elections? How does a Christian deal with questions like abortion and euthanasia? Is there a Christian postion on taxation or economic policy? How should Christians deal with aspects of secular culture? Jason Rennie sets out to explore all these sorts of questions in Christian Meets World, looking into areas of economics, ethics, philosophy, history, apologetics, and anything else that seems to fit.</itunes:summary> <itunes:author>Noodle.mx Network</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>clean</itunes:explicit> <itunes:image href="http://media.noodle.mx/cmw_cover-600x600.jpg" /> <itunes:subtitle>Interfacing Christianity with the everyday</itunes:subtitle>

Christian Meets World

<rawvoice:frequency>Weekly</rawvoice:frequency> <atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" type="application/rss+xml" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/ChristianMeetsWorld" />
<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="hub" href="http://pubsubhubbub.appspot.com/" />
<media:keywords>worldview,politics,religion,christianity,philosophy,history,ethics,world,bible</media:keywords><media:category scheme="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">Religion & Spirituality/Christianity</media:category><media:category scheme="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">Society & Culture</media:category><media:category scheme="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">Government & Organizations</media:category><media:category scheme="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd">News & Politics</media:category><itunes:owner><itunes:email>feedback@noodle.mx</itunes:email><itunes:name>Noodle.mx Network</itunes:name></itunes:owner><itunes:keywords>worldview,politics,religion,christianity,philosophy,history,ethics,world,bible</itunes:keywords><itunes:category text="Religion & Spirituality"><itunes:category text="Christianity" /></itunes:category><itunes:category text="Society & Culture" /><itunes:category text="Government & Organizations" /><itunes:category text="News & Politics" />

CMW043: You’re not Luke Skywalker and this isn’t Star Wars

Podcast

cogitation

feelings

luke skywalker

reason

star wars

The subtitle for this episode is, “Tell me what you think, I don’t care what you feel”. And the original description can be found over at Live Science The Hoover Institute has a paper on the topic titled Religious Faith and Charitable Giving I would definitely recommend How to Lie with Statistics. Not perfectly on topic for this subject but it does teach you how to approach stats and claims with an appropriate degree of skepticism.Ask your questions or share your feedbackComment on the shownotes Call (903) 231-2221 to leave a voicemail Email christianmeetsworld@gmail.com (audio files welcome)Please connect with meSubscribe, rate, and review Christian Meets World™ in iTunes Follow me on Twitter</itunes:summary> <itunes:author>Christian Meets World</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:duration>20:58</itunes:duration>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://media.blubrry.com/noodlemx/media.blubrry.com/christianmeetsworld/media.noodle.mx/cmw041.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

CMW040: What is your fair share of what someone else earns?

Podcast

bastiat

caesar

Christian

consumption

evil

fair share

flat tax

income tax

podcast

progressive

taxation

thomas sowell

“Since this is an era when many people are concerned about “fairness” and “social justice,” what is your “fair share” of what someone else has worked for?” – Thomas Sowell Notes I highly recommend you have a read of Thomas Sowell’s regular column at Townhall.com. I have always found it to be an excellent read, especially his occasional random though columns An interesting read on the progressive taxation system in the US called Our Marxist Tax Code, which was also in part inspiration for this episode. If you have a look on Google you can find plenty about the whole Sandra Fluke spat Does anybody else agree with the observation that demanding government funded contraceptives as some sort of a right treats women as mere rutting animals enslaved to their sexual desire and unable to exercise self control an restraint? And should we really let such irrational people vote? You can find lots of different versions of Frederic Bastiat's The Law on Google. Pick the one you like best You can get Thomas Sowell's excellent book Dismantling America and other controversial Essays in both Paperback and Kindle editions. I can't recommend this highly enough.Ask your questions or share your feedbackComment on the shownotes Call (903) 231-2221 to leave a voicemail Email christianmeetsworld@gmail.com (audio files welcome)Please connect with meSubscribe, rate, and review Christian Meets World™ in iTunes Follow me on Twitter</itunes:summary> <itunes:author>Christian Meets World</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:duration>27:04</itunes:duration>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://media.blubrry.com/noodlemx/media.blubrry.com/christianmeetsworld/media.noodle.mx/cmw040.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

CMW039: Doing Evil so Good will Result

Podcast

dentisty

evil

god

good

omniscience

suffering

theism

theodicy

Is it ok to do evil so that good will result? Waynes story can be found at Out of the Darkness, in to the Light, an atheist’s conversion story . It is enlightening. A good read, that I am part way through on the topic of science and religion is Alvin Platinga's new book Where the Conflict Really Lies: Science, Religion, and NaturalismYou can find the text of The Gay Science online if you want to read it If you would like some more information on Same Sex Attraction have a look at this video by Ricky Chelette. I think he makes a good case. You can always email me about this if you want more information.Ask your questions or share your feedbackComment on the shownotes Call (903) 231-2221 to leave a voicemail Email christianmeetsworld@gmail.com (audio files welcome)Please connect with meSubscribe, rate, and review Christian Meets World™ in iTunes Follow me on Twitter</itunes:summary> <itunes:author>Christian Meets World</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:duration>36:27</itunes:duration>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://media.blubrry.com/noodlemx/media.blubrry.com/christianmeetsworld/media.noodle.mx/cmw037.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

CMW036: 10 Questions for a moderate Christian, some thoughts

Podcast

atheist

catholic

Christian

clueless

questions

silly

I was going to do something else tonight but I decided to cover a blog post I saw called “10 Questions for a moderate Christian”. To address Question 1 Tekton has a really good collection of articles under the heading of Christian Variations. It looks at some of the differences. If you have never read Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis, stop reading this and go get a copy now. Tekton also has a great collection of articles on The Reliability of the New Testament. Tekton also has an excellent article on reliability called On the Textual Reliability of the New Testament If you would like a good introduction to Natural Law has a read of What We Can't Not Know: A Guide by J.Budziszewski You can also get a hold of A Summa of the Summa by Peter Kreeft that I mentioned unless you want to read the whole Summa Theologica by Thomas Aquinas himself. Shelly Lubbens Pink Cross foundation is an excellent group that I would highly recommend giving money too. They provide an excellent outreach ministry. Shelly's storie is heart breaking but inspiring at the same time. Mark Gungor runs a ministry called Laugh Your Way to a Happy Marriage which is excellent and something I give now as a wedding present. I wish I had know about it before I got married. It could have saved a lot of pain. Mark Gungor also does a daily Radio Show that is very entertaining but not for the faint of heart.Ask your questions or share your feedbackComment on the shownotes Call (903) 231-2221 to leave a voicemail Email christianmeetsworld@gmail.com (audio files welcome)Please connect with meSubscribe, rate, and review Christian Meets World™ in iTunes Follow me on Twitter</itunes:summary> <itunes:author>Christian Meets World</itunes:author> <itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit> <itunes:duration>13:46</itunes:duration>

<feedburner:origEnclosureLink>http://media.blubrry.com/noodlemx/media.blubrry.com/christianmeetsworld/media.noodle.mx/cmw028.mp3</feedburner:origEnclosureLink>

CMW027: Some thoughts on Occupy Wall Street

Podcast

idiot

leftist

occupy wall street

ows

politics

I thought i’d talk about the Occupy Wall Street movement this week. On this weeks show I look at miracles and in the second segment I talk about why I love money and markets (but not in a greed way). Show Notes David Hume outlines his argument on miracles in his work An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding. The whole thing is worth a read, but Section X is the relevant section.Wikipedia has a good summary of Hume's argument against miracles if you want a shorter read, although i'd recommend at least Section X of the primary source.Dr William Lane Craig had a great indepth article on the nature of miracles and the historical collapse of belief in themMurray Rothbard's book What has the government done to our money? provided a lot of the inspiration for the talk on how awesome money is and i'd recommend you pick it up and give it a read. It is only about 100 pages long, so is an easy read. Also you can find Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations over at The Library of Economic's and Liberty and that is worth a read, although if it is to much for you Wikipedia has a reasonable article on it as well.
