I am a huge fan of Vaseline – all the way from the petroleum jelly (as evidenced by my 50 uses for Vaseline post, which remains my most popular post of all time) down to their wonderful body lotions.  This video is an introduction to the science behind their Sheer Infusion product.  The long and short of it is that this lotion will not sit on your skin, but will penetrate down to your deepest layers to really moisturize.

Are you still watching Project Runway like you used to?  I admit, they lost me last season, with the move to Lifetime and to Los Angeles.  I started watching at the beginning of the season, but am sad to say, I got no further than the first couple of episodes, and the last couple.  Not sure why, but I do think the fussing and fighting took something away from how special the show was for me. 

I am watching this season though, and it feels more right.  Not sure if it is because of being back in the good ol NYC, because I am moved into my new home with 1,000 TV’s in it (convenience), or just because I missed the fabulousness that is Project Runway, but it feels good.  I am not sure who I love or hate just yet, but am glad Ping hit the road, it was time.  Who do you love?  Hate?  I think I love Anthony, he is so smiley and expressive.  I keep waiting for Mila to turn into a megabitch (I think because she reminds me of Katinka from Zoolander), but so far, not so much.

Science junkies like me might not want to miss this totally interesting article from last week in the New York Times regarding ancient Egyptian makeup that has been preserved at The Louvre and recently analyzed by researchers.  As it turns out, the makeup was found to be based on lead and other materials we know today to be toxic.  The benefit for them was, along with the deep, rich pigments, that the makeup killed common bacteria of the day.

In ancient Egypt, during periods when the Nile flooded, Egyptians had infections caused by particles that entered the eye and caused diseases and inflammations. The scientists argue that the lead-based makeup acted as a toxin, killing bacteria before it spread.

I love big, gorgeous coffee table books about beauty and fashion, and the new one from Scott Barnes, About Face, does not disappoint.   Barnes is best known as Jennifer Lopez’s makeup artist, and he has compiled a beautiful book of makeovers, celebrity makeup and tips and tricks for “everywoman.”  I forgive him for including the ultra icky (or is that goopy) Gwyneth Paltrow.

The hardcover book is available now for $14.61 from Amazon, and the paperback will be out on March 1st.  I always recommend the hardback, and this is a great price!

I was flipping through my Vogue last night and behold! 

Can we all rest easy now knowing that Madonna does dishes like the rest of us?  Wearing her little red string?  It’s definitely an eye catching picture though – the whole set is pretty awesome really – all of Madonna being a “real” woman.  Ha!  She looks great though, I must admit – I love her hair.  What do you guys think?  I like these better than her Louis Vuitton images from last year…

What does it take to look like me? Not much. I don’t wear sunscreen. I don’t have a skincare programme[sic].  I have no dermatologist and no cosmetic surgeon. Nothing’s been shot into this face.

I don’t think I’m going to tweak anything. I’m kind of done with it all. I want to see what I look like when I’m old - I’m curious where that’s going to take me.

Pamela is 42, and while I don’t see many signs of going under the knife IN HER FACE, I’d be real damn surprised if she hasn’t had a few injections here and there.  I mean, we all know she’s not THAT into being au naturale.

I am not a huge drug store beauty shopper (yeah, I’m a bit of a beauty snob… betcha didn’t know that – ha!), but when I do it, it’s almost always at CVS.  Especially since Target disappointed me so badly a few months back.  CVS has an amazing selection of beauty products, all the way from your typical choices up to some higher end, more exclusive lines.
